The polo still looks better than every other car in that segment except the Altroz. What is wrong in the car being 10 years old if it still looks so classy, understated, safe, solidly built, better insulated, has a firecracker engine and provides incredible driving pleasure. Young people who are single or families with little kids can still pick the polo any day. Those who need air purifiers and LCD TVs can stay away. 🤭
Oldest car in the segment. But for the youngest and enthusiast drivers. Solid build, excellent road manner, superior highway stability . Even after 10 years of its launch, still there is no car in the segment which can match it in driving performance and feel.
Being an I 20 owner I would say even taking up i20 petrol in comparison with polo petrol too polo could solidly win the comparison , truly yaaaar polo is class and comparing with compact hatch back is insane.
i10 comes no where closer to the polo Specially GT! Driving enthusiats know it better. Coming from a guy who owns a polo 1.6 gt tdi. Back then when i bought it came with class leading features like anti pinch one touch down all four windows, great built quality and an awesome music system. It’s been 7 years years and i haven’t sold it yet and i will not ever.. There’s a reason.
For driving pleasure polo any day for better handling. And it's saftey rating is way better than hyundai. And 6 gears is always better than 5 gears. Polo any day.
Between i10/i20 and the Polo, I'd choose the Polo any day for it's superior on-road manners and much better safety rating. The age of the platform is a non-issue in this case....
Real respect for Hyundai! The Grand i10 Turbo hits 0-100 in around 9.82 seconds! Superb. (Discontinued Baleno RS /9.7) Yes, the kickdown acceleration wouldn't be as quick as an automatic Polo on the other side! I hope people know Automatic Transmission cars don't lose power while shifting gears. (Multiple clutch plates, greater torque spread.) A manual loses power the second the clutch is pressed. Age? 10 years old, a great car but it's really old! Halogen headlamps on a car like this? Sad. Come on VW! More money = more power? (The Baleno RS was a sweet vehicle with a great VG Turbo. But very expensive!) The Polo is smooth and a great car to drive, great for stop start traffic. Taller gears. 16 inch rims. Nice but old interior! Great performance, mid range, braking and its still a great car to drive! Miss that DSG. The Grand i10 Nios is a peppy vehicle and much easier to drive! 100-160 acceleration, VW all the way? Better grip on the VW. Three cylinder thrum on the Nios is much more than the Polo. Very easy to drive! Better VFM. Great cars but the i20 Diesel/Altroz Petrol and Baleno Petrol will trump them! 8.3/10 Nios. (No rear wiper!!! Really nice interior? Feature loaded but no cruise control!) 2 Star NCAP. VFM: 8.2/10 8.1/10 Polo. (Old and strange interior, but its still a steal. No rear camera, excellent build!) 4 Star NCAP. VFM: 7.7/10
I think VW will only do a real upgrade of Polo exterior and interior in India in 2050. Apart, irrespective of a being a solidly built car with fun to drive engine, Polo 1.0 TSI won't even come near i10 Nios Turbo in selling, a fading brand and fading car unfortunately is the story for VW in India, hightime they bring more latest products in under 10 lakhs category
I have recently bought Nios Turbo. Have driven in all terrains except hills. Not sure about Polo but I have heard VW service is not to the mark compared to Hyundai. Features wise, Nios has the same but more than Polo. Same engine with more tech, why not go for Nios Turbo. In terms of driving, I am more than happy as it has enough space and enough power that even passengers and the driver, all enjoy ride. Safety wise, I accept there's a compromise but that's fine as long you drive with consciousness.
1. 3 cylinder engine makes noise in comparison to 4 Cylinder.... just bocz of cost cutting... company's are manufacturing...so that they can make more margins....in petrol engine... 2. You will feel the lag in 3 cylinder engine once AC is on.... 3. Indian buys will buy Hyundai bcoz after sale & Service....Hyundai availability and spare parts are easily accessible or available at any dealership in comparison to VW. 4. German Brand should stick to 4 Cylinder engine with Turbo Charge...will give different identity to its product...& At the same time increase the service outlets and spare parts availablity across region... Guys...plz do not take it personal...it my personal view being owner of VW Vento...

Timeless design, 6 speed manual, 100 bhp hatchback. Sounds like a modern day classic. (Think of hot hatches from the 90s in US). A perfect second car for the indian customer.
I know Figo isn’t turbocharged but it could have been more interesting to see how it compares to polo since that’s much more fun to drive than Hyundai cars.
Make sure you make safety a priority in review and stress on the ncap ratings for car. Which will intern make viewers/buyers more aware and will make the whole auto industry vehicle safer.

i10 NIOS might be polarizing in looks. However, POLO itself defines polarization with its performance & driveability. It's that wine which tastes nothing but better & better & better with time. All hatchbacks aside & POLO on the other.
Many commenters here don't own a Polo TSI or either an i10 nios Turbo. If performance is what we are talking, i20 Turbo + DCT is way slower than the 5 speed MT i10 nios turbo or the Polo TSI MT. The I20 is just roomier and has more features than the i10 nios if one opts for the top of the line Asta Option variant. In fact, the i10 is more spacious on the rear objectively and feels plush than the VW polo. Polo being a bigger car has less room inside the cabin than the smaller i10 nios, that's a shame. Polo's advantages over i10 is the better steering and suspension and safer chassis strength. Of course you get cruise control and auto dimming mirrors and auto wipers. But, i10 turbo offers very similar acceleration performance, more space for the leg and head, plushier seats, better in car infotainment system, cheaper to maintain, slightly more fuel efficient, rear camera and better stock headlamps. Of course, most dealerships won't have an i10 nios turbo for a test drive and I think it's more practical hatchback to buy for seating 4 who are more concerned about the space and performance at the same time. I've ridden a polo TSI and got very impressed. But, in terms of practicality it's hard to live as a single car - Not an i10 or a Polo owner. We've got an i20 Turbo + DCT in our house.

Am I the only one that finds Polo's switch gear irritating? They still have the wiper controls on the right and the indicators on the left! Also the showrooms, a big factor in car purchase. At least in my city I have 03 Hyundai outlets as compared to 01 VW. Not only that when you visit the VW showroom in my city they have only 2 guys out of which one belongs to the administrative section. I mean how can you expect people to come and buy cars from you when the first impression is poorer than most 2 wheeler dealers! Well obviously 4 star rating command respect and no doubt Polo is a performer but then again safety is not the only thing, Indian car buyers are looking for!
