5 DAYS IN TORQUAY | TORQUAY TRAVEL GUIDE

  • This summer we spent 5 days in Torquay, for a few different reasons:
It is a costal town and for us summer holidays are equivalent to beach plus vitamin sea.
It is easy to get to by train
It is conveniently located near other towns, local landmarks and attractions
Torquay is located in Devon, a region famous for its landscapes and dairy products and a place that I’ve always wanted to visit
It is called The English Riviera so it gives it a bit of a French aura if you ignore the weather, the food and the language
Torquay is easy to get to by train, so we had a smooth journey and only had to change once. We love the GWR trains because they are reliable and comfortable. During our stay we took a few trips to nearby towns, such as Dartmouth and spent the rest of the time enjoying everything that Torquay has to offer. We stayed at @Hampton by Hilton Torquay which was close to the train and the harbour. We tried some very cool water adventures, such as a high speed boat ride, kayak tours and open water swimming. We also went on a hike alongside the coast, enjoying breath taking views and plenty of sunshine.
We thoroughly enjoyed our adventure, but here are a few things to watch out for: some of the attractions were overpriced, and the water tours tend to be similar, sharing nearly the same content and showing the same sights, so choose wisely. In my opinion the best value for money was the kayaking tour. Another thing to watch out for is restaurant bookings, we didn’t have a lot of luck with customer experience and with finding places to eat, probably due to being severely understaffed and taken by storm by unexpected amounts of tourists this summer.
This year we were actually supposed to go on holiday with my family to Turkey, but it looks like Torquay [pronounced: tor-KEE] was the closest we were able to get to Turkey. Despite not able to go ahead with our Turkey plans, Torquay was a great option for our summer getaway and it is a convenient location for those of us who reside in England, providing entertainment and relaxation to tourists since Victorian times. Other things that we didn’t get the chance to see but which sound interesting are: The Agatha Christie museum, Torquay Museum and Kent’s Caverns. Check them out if you get the chance and let me know what you thought of Torquay’s most popular attractions. Safe travels!

Don't bother unless you are happy to pay premium hotel prices and cafe/restaurant prices, to be confronted in tourist hot spot areas with heroin addicts lying asleep during the day on benches set out for tourists and local folk. Very surprized to find out a Conservative Torbay Council willing to risk the Tourism Business in Torbay by not insisting on a hardline on such ASB!

In another video called "Trying muscles for the first time" I tried to comment but was unable. Get a dictionary and look up "muscles." Then look up "mussels." Whose muscles were eaten? Ha ha.
