I live in Paignton, neighbouring Torquay, and this is a pretty accurate view of the town. It has some great features but has been let down in recent decades by the loss of some big employers, the rise in cheap overseas holidays and the introduction of a very greedy, shortsighted Council. Many of the usual, typical town chains have gone and many shops are vacant and the hardcore drug problem that has grown as the down has shrunk is sadly very obvious. Like many British seaside towns the low wage and high comparative living costs have taken their toll. It's not all bad though, the beaches within the bay are still beautiful and the town still boasts a lot of lovely areas, there are many great places to eat and drink and we have the luxury of being on the coast but still only a short commute from the moors. There is a lot of natural beauty here to balance out and offset the negativity, Torbay on the whole isn't what it once was but there are still much worse places to be.

Ben Robinson I was very impressed by the presentation of both towns on the face. The well kept gardens, flora & fauna were a world away from the main drag in Blackpool. It felt a bit like I was on holiday on the continent.

The drugs problem is mostly only noticeable in one area and is no worse than the majority of town and cities on the UK Exeter for instance is worse. This is an ill conceived video which does not give a balanced visual of the area and all its assets.

Today’s generation Devon Dandy are a different bread. Torquay was never as bad as when I went down on my last visit. Still very much like the place but I would personally go up to Babbacombe on the evening where it’s normally more relaxed and quiet. Certainly not saying there is never any trouble up there either. In reply to your question no, but there are certainly places where you would know you would have minimal trouble in comparison to others.

My home town , the building for sale was the old court . At 4 minutes in u would of been near the leonard stocks centre and the castle pub , a nice mixture of druggies and alcoholics . 2 of the pubs around there had their licences taken away . If u wish to find the hotel that where the idea for fawlty towers came from it was in asheldon road , got knocked down a few years ago and replaced with flats called sachs lodge . Good video

Did Torquay by coach from Blackpool in 2017. You can see why it's called the English Riviera 🌴🌴 spent a day at Teighnmouth and another at Dartmouth so missed looking round Torquqy altogether, it's not a place to visit for only a few days, you do really need about 10 days at the least to enjoy it there. I live in Torquay, have done for over 50 years. It is a beautiful place to live. Unfortunately it’s ruined by junkies alcoholics beggars and homeless. The council couldn’t care less, it’s a fact. It’s all about eye watering salaries and pensions. Department heads on £160 .000 twelve managers on £105.000 , it’s corruption like this that has killed outer town. This video needs sending to the council, I’ll do it.

We always went down the bay to Preston Sands, though parking could be a problem especially as the old free for four hours got removed and now it’s £1.50 per hour and the loos are reduced to just four unisex at 30p a time. No radar keys can be used in the new ones. Still good swimming if your able bodied as the ramp still doesn’t reach the beach after many storms left it a foot above the sand and the steps down have become uneven and narrower.

From the perspective of someone who as lived in Torquay since 1951 and knows the town intimately, both the good and the bad, what dissapoints me about this video is that it is too limited to give a prospective tourist an idea of what to expect. There is much more to discover than the main promenade and a walk up the hill. Coastal and forest walks, the lovely old village at Cockington, other beaches, Babbacome, etc etc. A bit of fun for the guy doing it but hardly a travelogue.

Devon Dandy Thanks for the feedback. My main aim of the vlogs is to show both sides of a particular town, rather than focus on all the positive stuff. I’ve seen plenty of vloggers doing walk around vlogs on front of house, but I wanted to be different & show the other side. That said, I will do videos that show redevelopment, so it’s not all doom & gloom.

I have been to Torquay many times the last being around 5 years ago. Seemed ok still in the day overall but at night seemed full of idiots throwing beer glasses etc on the streets. I was with my partner and we had a lovely meal in a restaurant called The Hole in the Wall. However we walk out to idiots fighting, throwing beer glasses around etc and personally I didn’t want any hassle to be honest so we went up to Babbacombe for a few drinks instead. I wouldn’t mind going to Torquay again especially if I was going to watch my football team play them again albeit in different divisions at the moment, I wouldn’t be going round there of a night with my partner though. I've been going to torquay for donkey's years and seen pubs come and go. Mainly go. Still love the place. Since the plague, the hotel and b&b's prices have shot up but not quality. You can pay top price for a tired out dated room. Shops have shut down but that can be said for many towns.
Holidays abroad have been unpredictable so people have been double booking a uk holiday just in case. They are able to do this because most hotels give free cancellation. I usually go to the west country in June but have changed to July because it's cheaper.
I look forward to this holiday. Bring it on!

There are some lovely beaches (not including torre Abbey), the place is a shithole, big unemployment due to seasonal work mainly hotels, big drug problem and dwindling town centre due to online shopping which is a sign of the times.. Torquay is my hometown and to grow up during the 80/90s was ace as a child through to my teens when I left due to the above problems.. I suppose its paradise for the purple rinse Brigade who travel down from up north... But on the whole its a dump behind the scenes of the seafront

Lived 22 years in Torquay and finally escaped nearly 5 years ago. I moved there in 1994 and watched it rapidly decline. It is in a shocking state.
The high Street is dead, crawling with heroin addicts and spice heads, walking round like zombies. The town is not friendly anymore. It's a talk town. Full of gossip, backstabbing and filth. High teenage pregnancy rate, high alcohol abuse, drug abuse, child abuse, domestic abuse.
Much nicer on the edge of dartmoor where I now live!

Not sure what the point of this video is? I was expecting you to look around and talk about things, tell people the positives and then the negatives, areas to avoid and why. But it's just a strange video of clips mashed together.
As a local I was expecting you to be informing potential travellers the pros and cons of the area or have I completely missed the point of the video?

Each to their own. This was a chance video because I happened to be down there. Also, I am still fairly new to vlogging, and my idea is to be more entertainment than informative. If you look at some of my other videos you will probably get a better idea of what I do.
