Mezzo is alright. Dramatic Contralto is the rarest of them all and that's the type that would be comparable to low Tenor or even Baritone. They would be beyond androgynous. Despite nodules Tina's tessitura is already high, a Contralto can't do that without going into head voice much earlier because they basically have male vocal folds.
@@XxQueenChristinaxX Erm, not really. A dramatic contralto's voice resembles that of a lyric tenor. A regular contralto like Cher can belt out F5s and Coloratura contraltos like Annie Lennox can even hit some D6s in head voice So it really depends on the contralto.

Maybe if she was classically trained, it would have been easier to determine where she fits the most. I'm leaning towards mezzo-soprano.

I guess she just hits it - it's not a classic singing, so hitting higher and lower notes is much more easy. She had many short whistles and weird sounds like this - even to A7, but I didn't put it here because it's not her vocal range anymore.
I don't really understand why she's considered a contralto. Yes she's had lower register songs like We don't need another Hero and a few more but her voice is more mezzo.

Yes, she is for sure. Her low register is full, dark and pretty huge. In upper chest register she uses very much nasality or overdrive to cover it, to hit high notes very easly and to get more lability - she uses it very smart. Beside all of this her voice still could break through all guitars and instruments. Her head register has the volume, sometimes a little covered by using many vocal tricks, making it very light and sharp or more labile. If you listen to her natural voice near the classic like 14:32 and her middle register without so much nasality or any huge vocal effects you can hear the volume - that's the main reason so many people is misleading her for being a contralto. The other thing is that during collecting all Tina's records I found many notes where Tina sounds exactly the same like Nina Hagen or Aretha Franklin - two very different dramatic mezzo sopranos.

Lyric Contraltos have a darkness that's throughout their entire range and are often androgynous in the lower region of the voice. Dramatic Mezzos and Lyric Contraltos sound very similar so it's easy to confuse them. Tina's middle and upper registers are quite telling of her voice type. She had more ease than a Contralto could hope to have in the 5th octave.Tina's also not a Lyric voice. She has more qualities of a Dramatic Mezzo than a Contralto.

She isn't a dramatic mezzo. Anastacia is . Dramatic mezzos have a cavernous voice . Tina sounds like a lyric mezzo with some natural raspiness.

Dramatic Mezzos aren't loud 24/7, js. Tina doesn't fit any other voice type at all, and she's too light to be a true Contralto.
