The fact that you and I and everyone else has never gotten sick of hearing his ( or their ) songs tells you everything. How many modern songs have you heard on commercial or tv and said to yourself, “ man, I am SOO sick of hearing this song!?” Thats show you right there. Like a good book that endures , I think his music is always fresh and timeless, not a passing fad like disco. If we dont blow up or destroy ourselves and our planet- this music will last forever. Hope that have music in the after life. He’s one of the Shakespeare of Earth. Glad we both lived in his era.
So thankful I was in the same generation as Paul Simon. He is the BEST songwriter, composer, guitarist ever to grace a stage. He didn't need one or two causes like some of the 1960's artists did, his reach was absolutely to infinity and back. The absolute BEST. ❤
Nice comment. I'm from the same generation also. As I was learning how to play the guitar and sing and write my own songs, I followed Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, and The Beatles.
A couple of years ago, Nikon discontinued the F6. It was the last film camera they ever made. So now both Kodachrome and Nikon film cameras are gone. It makes this song take on a whole new level of nostalgia.
I worked with Nikon f3 (analogic obviously) for over 20 years ... a battle station! A War Tank! Just with the 50mm lens, never failed!! One of my greatest regreats was never made a dark room. Do you remember buying the films by the meter and the cartouche on the side?? And now i have to pay a fortune for the old negatives... Best camera i ever had!
My Dad used to play Kodachrome on the stereo when I was a kid and 40 years later it just popped into my head! I've just learned it on guitar and I play it around the house...hoping the same will happen to my kids when they grow up. I love this song so much! Another gem, thank you Paul.

At 70, I have loved and shared your wisdom for a long time. Your lyrics have become part of two generations of expression. Working on three. Hugs and peace.
The fact that Simon is in his 70's and still has such a magnificent voice is just nuts. Stranger to Stranger was a tighter album than many releases from upcoming/current bands even if I didn't love every track. His musicianship is just on a special level.
My dad was a gigger & when he used go out to gig my mum would put on the "Concert in Central Park" & I would think Paul was my Dad & Garfunkel was his band mate 😁 Love ya Paul ❤
Look at the crowd shot at 2:50 = hard to find a black or dark face. Amazing! I've always thought of Paul Simon's lyrics as having universal appeal. I guess the style of music is a step away from multi-cultural.
Love this song! All of those slides taken in the 1950s and later on Kodachrome and stored properly look as good as the day they were taken. Sadly, they did take my Kodachrome away.
Indeed, I use to shoot 120 Kodachrome almost exclusively. It was taken away BUT Lake Rochester is the better for not having the inherent pollution from Kodachrome.
Paul Simon writes such beautiful songs! This song is a masterpiece from start to finish. His knowledge of chord progressions is second to none. He makes songcrafting look so effortless
I put McCartney/Lennon and Stevie Wonder there too. Still, obviously, elite company, but I don’t feel right leaving those ones off the list. Billy Joel is a possible option as well.
After their wildly successful Central Park free concert, they did a short tour. I was luck enough to be visiting Pittsburgh when they played Three Rivers Stadium. They opened with Kodachrome. A bang of a beginning to one FANTASTIC, memorable concert. I've seen over 300 concerts, going back to 1977, and Simon and Garfunkle is top ten, EASY. Was also fortunate to see Paul on the Graceland Tour. WOW!!!! The guy was amazing.....and still is.

What is really scary is that I have listened to Paul (and Art when they were together) for 53 years now. He is one of the all time great songwriters.
He’s definitely up there with Tom Petty as well. I think those 2 have to be on the Mt Rushmore.
