If you read the description of the video Woody uploaded to his channel, you'll realize that the producers specifically asked him to perform this particular trick. That's why he kept saying how the trick was good for TV. I'm sure if he had the final say in the choice of the effect, he'd choose something a bit more "magician-fooling". But that's what happens when you decide to do a TV show like this. You don't always have the final say in the choice of the effect you're going to perform. For example, Dan Harlan was specifically asked to do "Card-Toon" even though it was a commercially available (and very well-known) effect.
You are absolutely right. Many tricks serve the purpose of completing the show, not to be judged in the competition. Many tricks are filmed several times (fatal mistakes appear, for example Alyson changes blue pants to red during one trick, etc.) In this particular trick there are a lot of cuts and therefore there is no record of "extras" looking at their cards, which are not those cards in the show. The bearded gentleman on the right has already "played" several times in the performances of other magicians. Since the production, it has been unfair to television viewers. Even after the card was torn, it was clear that the analysis was irrelevant - supernatural phenomena did not really exist and there was only one physics. Each magic must offer ways of its own realization. If this is not the case, it is fraud from the sheltered workshop "Angel", "Dynamo" ... That is, those who do not practice true magic and have a bad effect on young people who are leaning towards the occult.
@Bad Boys Boogie Magic must offer variations of design in order to speculate. If magic has a "solution" only on a supernatural level (in the occult), another deception had to be carried out, such as a television trick. That's what Sarankatos (Angel) does. This is not magic. I've been doing magic for many years and I've learned that I need to offer more ways (fake clues or switches) for people to speculate. Every magician is pleased when people guess the wrong variants. Only a bad magician is angry. So it's magic and magic. One of them is not magic, but television magic that we do not accept.
He is the text book definition of someone from the Spanish school of magic.... He is not there to fool and underestimate the audience rather he is very very social and interactive with them , just like Daortiz, Tamariz...

Hi Jason. Thanks for your fun and light-hearted content. I was trying to find the link to the Shin Lim performance you said you would link in the description. Can't seem to find it...🤔
12:12 - 12:29 I think you are right. At 4:01 I saw a 'high mass' ( = bank) of five of hearts cards. Love the Fables story. Totally agree with you. A wolf in sheep's clothing is still a wolf. Never let your guard down.
I think you are right about the "multiple banks." Still I couldn't see any potential slights. There was some camera editing I think, but I don't know if it affected how clean it looked.
Hi Jason I live in Perth Western Australia and we don't have magic stores, book stores that have how to magic books or anything to help at all. I love close up hand magic so what books would you suggest I get online that are good starters??
I started with and enjoyed Born to Perform card magic with Os Pearlman sold at PenguinMagic :) Also some of the older DVDs at Ellusionist that had Brad Christian in them were really good.
Dang, again frustrating edit cuts (at 4:51 and 4:53) - first, the thick(ish) joker is in his hand on top of the deck, then it's on the table... and later on, I was amazed how perfectly square he had torn the card... ;-) Keep your comments coming, Jason - I always enjoy watching them!
I noticed that when he tore the card into 4 pieces, it's edges are not perfect and a bit jaggy. But when the pieces transformed into their cards, the edges of the pieces became smoother and more symmetrical.
Holy [insert favorite noun] ! This guy does some serious heavy shite! I mean, even a direct camera close-up can't reveal what he does. Four people sitting next to him, hundreds watching live at the venue. And we see it on video and can't see it. He' would have been beheaded in some historical periods LOL. It's one of the best tricks I have ever seen.
He totally fooled me... I know there is something going on in his hands but man Im a non magician and this trick looks so clean to me that I would almost believe in magic :D
5:20 somehow something just materializes in his hand. I don't see a single frame where the extra pieces move, but the stack of pieces does seem to somehow change in this moment.
Just using any video editor! google video editor, there are many to choose from. Adobe Premiere is good. Also Final Cut Pro. Or you might be able to do it on a smartphone depending if the software allows it.
The card force part was obvious due to the camera catching it. Just look at 3:54 and you see at least two 5 of hearts, so that tells you all you need to know about the forced card part. But the rest was quite good. A few other notes I thought were interesting. You notice he pass Alison and goes to the 2nd person, that is because Alison was slow and he was already at the 2nd bank of cards. One thing that pisses me off is the camera man and taking the camera away from the cards to point to the audience clapping or whatever so it can be hard to see the switches. But one thing if you look closes you will notice is that the 5 of hearts edges are jagged like the joker he tears, so that had to be 2 sided with joker on one side and 5H on the other side. You can clearly see joker at 4:50, but then the camera man is pointing the camera everywhere but where it need to be pointed. I believe some point after 4:50 until the cameraman decides to put the camera back on the deck he switches that card. The other cards looked like they were cut with a scissors and straight. As other pointed out the cards were double sided. It is hard to tell with all the camera edits, but it looked to me at 6:10 when he used his right hand to grab the Joker / 5H cards he has the new KH/8S cards in his hand and then laps the old cards when he pulls his hand back. The new KH/8S stack has a 5H on top and Bicycle Back card on bottom that he shows. He then moves those 2 cards into his palm to reveal the KH and the flip side to reveal the 8S. I never saw the switch to the JS but I notice he only showed the top JS and in fact quickly covered the 2nd card, so I think he only had 1 JS , so he did not have to switch the deck but just add the 1 JS to the existing cards. I did not see where he added it. Then the large Jack was obvious on how it was done. Really great slight of hand. edit: Bugged me that I could not see him add the JS so I thought maybe he did not add it and watch again. Notice when he does the 8S he lays the cards out on the table but not when he shows the KH cards. He only manipulates them in his hand. I know think the JS was not added later but in that original KH /8S deck the whole time and just manipulated with KH so it is never seen. So like P&T said he used different methods every time.
13 of each card to force. 1 card with a joker front 3H back. camera misses do to cuts him taking card off deck Switch to 6:09 pieces with 4H front and KH backs 6:45 loads up Kh/8s pieces right arm can't be seen as he loads 8S/JS pieces
Here's how I think he did it: His original deck only had 5h kh 8s and js in it, repeated probably 13 times, then he had each prepared ahead of time cut in quarters. The slight of hand was super clean, though!
The deck consisted only of multiple copies of those 4 different cards, right? He just made sure the groups were well separated, so, no two people chose the very same card. In other words, there was no "selection" there, just the illusion of it. He had made his preparations to pull the trick with the 4 cards he previously chose and produced MULTIPLE torn copies of... I guess THAT was what Penn was referring to.
I think you were right about how he forced the choices. If you watch the deck of cards you would realize that it only comprise of those four cards so that was the banks that Penn maybe referred to.
When showed the first changed card, it didn't look torn, it looked like it was cut. And all the changed cards after that were also cut and not torn. When saw his other hand go under the table that may have been when he made the switch from torn to cut cards.
It almost looks like there are multiple 5 of Hearts at one point in the video when the camera shows the underside of the deck briefly. Also, it doesn't look like he proves the deck in the beginning, so this might be the case.
you know i was just thinking about that tonight.... i imagine i will experiment and make some other types of videos... which won't get nearly as many views.... but will still be fun... and then sprinkle in a reaction every so often to older seasons of fool us which i haven't reacted to... (all previous seasons). and thanks! :)
