Duuuuuude just got mine off while following this video. Never in a million years did I think I was capable of doing it. And by myself! lol. You rock dude
Thank you so much for this! My hands are too big to change the headlight bulbs while the housings are still on the car, and this is the best method of attack. This made it so simple, thanks!!
Thanks for the video! It’s nice to know what to expect when taking off the bumper for the first time. Thank you for your time and effort to share this info.
Thank you for your guidance. I managed to remove my bumper and fit a ramair induction kit. Without this video, I wouldn’t have been able to do this. 👍😁
The car is also fitted with a scorpion cat and back exhaust system and together with the ramair induction kit, it definitely feels more powerful with a lovely engine noise. I imagine that the car will improve over time, as the ECU is constantly learning from the increased cool fresh air passing through the new filter. The only potential downside is removing the new sponge filter in order to clean it. Plastic under tray removal or front bumper off in order to remove and clean it? Also bought an ECU Davefab splash guard as its more exposed after removing the stock air filter box.
Excellent video. I plan to replace a headlight on my '08 Miata soon and this is just what I need to show me the way. I replaced the same headlight a few years ago by 'cheating' and reaching my arm in behind the wheel well cover. Never again. I hate working blindly and you need to be a contortionist to go that route. One question. What size flex head wrench do I need to get at those bolts behind the bumper you show in the video? I'm looking at buying a 5 piece set that goes from 10mm to 19mm. Hard for me to gauge from the vid if you used one smaller than 10mm. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Us weekend mechanics appreciate your work.
Thank you so much for the encouragement! Glad you found the video helpful for your project. For the bolts and nuts behind the fender liner, I used a 10mm flex head wrench. The only 2 sizes of wrenches or sockets you'll need are 8mm and 10mm. 8mm along the bottom of the bumper. And 10mm for everything else. :)
Does anyone know the name of the rubber seal across the top of the bumper. Bought an NC and bumper was nicely repainted ( fender bender ) they nicely painted the rubber seal/ weatherstrip too. The seal was still attached to the bumper as you lifted it away from the car. Thanks for the great video content
Thank you for watching! As for the part you're looking for, I THINK it might be this NE51-56-750. That's labelled as the Bonnet Front Weather Strip. But it's worth double checking with a local Mazda dealership. I found that on the bonnet parts diagram on the website I normally use for finding OEM parts👉 partsouq.com/en/catalog/genuine/vehicle?c=Mazda&ssd=%24%2AKwECNiceWnUOYAgHckIbX1pObml3BgkEBRcEFFRUdm4CT1BGKQEFR1gEdwUIAAAAAAD-7rNd%24&vid=1927005494&cid=2494&cname=3.+BODY+EXTERIOR+TRIM&q= For replacement OEM parts, I usually just drive to my local Mazda dealership and show them the part I'm looking for on my car. If there are any mistakes, it's on them and they'll reorder the correct part with no additional cost to me. The price can be slightly more expensive but for me, the small difference is worth it for getting the right part, and for the chance to build rapport with the local techs in case I need to ask them for help or advice with something.
Thank you so much for your response - I checked out the part but will go to the dealer to to confirm: before I get this bumper repainted and te-aligned. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! So helpful to see how this process works. I'm actually looking into replacing the front bumper and grill of my navy miata. Do you have any recommendations for where to order parts? Thank you!
Thank you for watching! Glad you found it helpful. 😊 I live in Japan. So I can tell you the best places to source parts here but Im not sure if you are too. Can I ask which country you're in?
Great video man, thanks! Any ideas what options there are for an NC2 grill swap? I hate the chrome and black is so faded. Might install air horns so pulling the nose anyway.
Thank you for watching! There aren't any NC2 specific aftermarket grill options that I know of. But if you only want to get rid of the chrome, maybe you could consider getting the oem soft top grill. And if you get an old faded looking one, pretty easy to restore it by using a heat gun and some black plastic dressing/wax to bring back the deep black luster. 😊 And if you wash your car regularly, you can use something like turtle wax ice spray to dress the grill and its surroundings after each wash to maintain the shine. 😊
Thanks man. About to tackle this project as I had a incident with a Deer 🫤🫤🫤🫤. Doing 2 brand new headlights and wrapping the front bumper ( commuter car )
Thanks for this! What front plate holder are you using? I also have a Japanese plate that I'm using as a vanity, but want to move it from my tow hook mount. Thanks!
Thank you for watching! I have a custom bracket made out of sheet aluminium. The design is similar to the Nielex one. Thank you for this useful video! I just need to know where did you get that number plate holder! I saw that kind of holder for the Miata NA and NB, but never for the NC. Will they fit anyway? I want to take off my bumper just to get rid of that stock number plate holder which is a huge piece of black plastic in Europe!
Nielex and No Pro each make some. They're sold here in Japan on Yahoo Shopping and Rakuten. I haven't seen the NA or NB ones to know how they fit. The NC one bolts to the M6 bolt hole that's covered by the plastic grill cap - there's one on each side of the grill and you can pry it off with a flat head screw driver. I'm not sure if they'll fit with your number plate though. If they don't, you can probably just drill some new holes or use a custom adapter plate to mount your plate to them.
The video is awesome. I'm sure it's going to help me a lot. Have to replace the stock radiator as it just cracked. I ordered a new all aluminum radiator. Do I need to remove the bumper to pull the radiator?
Thank you for watching, Anthony. For replacing the radiator, it's not necessary to remove the front bumper. You can just remove the plastic undertray to get access from underneath. But I've heard from some forum members that they prefer to remove the front bumper to give themselves more space to work and a better view of things.
I bought it on Amazon Japan. Theyre made of soft silicone rubber, and made to fit the number plates in Japan. 😊 If you're not in Japan, I think aliexpress might have something similar to fit your number plate. 😊 👍
Thanks so much for this video, I was just wondering where could I find your front license plate holder, the one that bolts onto your front grille. Thank you!
Thank you for watching Owen! The license plate holder is a custom one made out of sheet aluminium. It was modelled based on the NIELEX one here: store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/g-crossnet/500314.html?sc_e=slga_fpla
I actually just used cardboard to mock it up. Only exact measurements that mattered was where the number plate bolts go. And I kinda didn't get it perfect when I drilled them. So, I ended up slightly bending that brace to get the holes to line up. 🤦♂️ But you can't see it with everything bolted together.
@@TachOnRed so have i. I just got an 03 about a yr ago. I can remember being in high school and loving them. Only took till i was 36 to actually get one. Why hasn't someone made a nice stainless steel insert for these. I hate chromed plastic, but would like a 5 bar horizontal design. I saw the cheap mesh and it looks like shit.
Been wondering the same for a looong time. All I can find are grill trim pieces that fit on top of the factory plastic honeycomb grill. Sure they may look alright in pictures and from afar. But up close they'd definitely look retarded. 🤦♂️

My bad dude. I've gotten similar feedback on my older videos and have since stopped using background music. I might redo this video at some point. :)
You need a PhD to take the bumper out. By the time you put it back together its been 6 months and you already lost the clips and a couple bolts 😅
😆😆 in which case you can always rely on a drill and a pack of zipties to put it all back together.
I wouldn’t go far . Maybe a bachelors degree in engineering.
