Thank you so much for rescuing and rehoming cats Rhadd. It is such important, compassionate work. We have an overpopulation in Indonesia as well and animals are not treated well here. Thankfully there is a dog sterilization program on Lombok and a cat cafe/rescue center. But there remain too many sick and hungry animals and it breaks my heart. We were fortunate like Andrew, our cat found us, she just arrived at the door and adopted us. Thanks for the interview gentlemen. I always love watching videos about cats and cat rescue. 😻😻
Out of our 8 cats, one is MRT cat (recued her from MRT station near our house), one is mamak's kitten (rescued the kitten from a mamak restaurant), one is 7-E kitten, 2 were just loitering around low cost flats amd were rescued by a friend. Only 2 of my cats are not rescued stray cats. All our cats are spayed.
You sound like our crew. 3 are hawker kitties, 1 was found in the middle of the street in the kampung, 1 was in the drain in front of the vet, 2 came from other adopters and 1 was waiting for me at the front entrance of my condo.

Kuala Lumpur is so modern . KL Sentral is the hub for transportation and so easy to get anywhere. But, it and the surrounding Selangor state have a high rate of dengue fever. Hi Andrew, Great interview, however, I personally think the gentleman's wife should also have been interviewed at the same time to make it more interesting. Just by her photo, she looks like an interesting subject.
Actually the population in Malaysia is quite balance to take care of stray cats and dogs problem. 60% of Muslim population and let's say 10-20% of non Muslims cat lovers, they should take care of cat strays problem adequately. In the last 10 years, more cat owners are open to spay and neuter their cats to combat the stray cat population, so it's a good progress but slow. Then we have 40% of non Muslims that can keep dogs. The problem is they don't want to, or even want to adhere by the rules to license and be a responsible pet owner by neutering their dogs, causing a lot of stray dogs issues in their neighborhood. To make the matter worse, they will call the authority to take care of their stray dogs, then cry that the Muslims kill dogs. If only our large population of non Muslims actually be a responsible dog owner, we wouldn't have the stray dog problem in the first place.
Andrew, do you have videos comparing Penang life to KL, and comparing them to places like Danang, Anh Trang, Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai especially regarding the climate?
All my cats are ‘Adopt Don’t Shop”. I think most people are willing to feed cats but not everyone has the income to neuter or care for sick cats (expensive medicals). My main gripe is how little incentive is given towards neutering cats. The discounted or free neutering given by local vet clinics are far in between. If they are more accessible, or monthly given, I believe a lot of people don’t mind bringing all the stray cats to be neutered to better care and put the population under control. It has to be a group efforts of all parties. And if anyone is looking for cats, go to your local pet shops or pet centres, they know the local cat rescue places.
Nice interview and every thing said so true ! Still discovering kl ...do many ghettos ... Cats there is a special law fir them to roam and protect them . Malays love cats as dogs are kinda haram .... But huge puppy farms etc sadly in Malaysia ..the lady at SPCA was saying .
If he's born in Malaysia to a Mlaysian parents (either one) then he should get his Malaysian birth certificate immediately and at 12 years old he should get his Malaysia National Identity Card without problem. Unless of course your brother in law is illegal foreigner!

Hi Taylor ... really luv yr channel ... thinking of making the move myself ... coming out for a couple of weeks in October wonder if I could make contact with to chat about moving over ... Mitch
Good morning to both of you…I was shocked to hear bout those people wanted to drown cats in Penang..as a local i know and never heard Malaysian do such thing unless they are psychos!…Im pretty sure those are foreign workers since you mentioned ‘security guards’…i had a friend who lived in one neigbourhood where by ever since this place flooded with foreign workers from Viatnm and Myanmar..the cats and dogs population droped drastically…these people eat cats and dogs!..I am sorry but as a cat lover i would never go to a country that eat cats as their special delicacy??! sickening as if there is nothing else to eat!Nevertheless there is a misunderstanding on issues with Muslim hating dogs..we dont hate dogs, we can rear them as guard dogs /farm dogs just not as pets that u bring into your home…because they are considered dirty hence if one touch them while they are wet or it’s saliva on you then we ought to have it wash in certain way accordingly.
Btw you can report to the authorities whenever u see animal been abuse..there are cases that went viral and action had been taken against the perpetrator.
Good morning Taylor.. Interesting video.. Most Malaysians prefer cats to dogs because dogs especially the stray/street dogs bring some fetal diseases such as rabies like the case just happened in Sarawak recently, and dogs are quite dangerous when attacking people who walk in the streets or even to the delivery men or postmen, old people and children.. they will bite and cause more serious injuries... whereas street cats they don't do harm like dogs do, normally they will come asking for food or they'll just run or hide away when seeing strangers..😁Btw, Malaysians don't eat rats like our neighbours do that's why you can see many of rats living around here 😂
Interesting gentleman, he’s a musician, but didn’t elaborate on that? I think street dogs can be a big problem, anywhere in Asia, that doesn’t seem to be dealt with in a way that we do in the west?
Rat population is controlled to a certain extent by the Local Councils and Health Dept. by regulations. If during a regular check rats are found in eating places the Health authorities will issue a shut down order until the problem is rectified. In my younger days in the 60's, in my town, 110 miles (176 km) northwest of Kuala Lumpur, the Local Council issued rat traps to locals and paid 3 cents (worth 25 sen presently) for each dead rat brought in. Soon unscrupulous locals started breeding rats and cashed in on the bonanza. The plan was abandoned when found out.
Cats are actually having far better life here in Malaysia than dogs. It's nuisance when cats break into someone house to do their business.😅 But stray dogs are mostly got killed after being caught by the council.
@andrewtaylor4558 I know. My Canadian friend paid a visit there for a short holiday. Some north american tourists are pure hypocrites when they saw rats in chinatown kl. As if there are no rats in usa or Canada.
Yes but in bAngkok you see them everyday , in every drain and sewer …it’s infested with them , just go along at 8 pm to any food area serving street food ….
This may sound really ignorant, but because of government hospital are cheap, so spay and neuter are not something most people would do... Vet bill is not subsidised by government... I've seen people raise cats but not to the extent of how in the west do... 🤔 Like it is a pet, it is an animal but not a child/family... Again just my observation... There are people who do take care of their pets (including dog) really well but mostly on average they don't spoilt their cat like a child... A human child. 😅 And i don't agree with what you said about cat in Malaysia act cute so they can get food, usually stray cat is feed by many people, so they're "used to" mingling with human.. unlike in the west, sorry to say... (Strays animal shouldn't roam around without a home type of mindset) - and you caught them and sometimes put them to death. Cats rolling over, human touching their nose, touching their belly, cats rubbing all over human leg.. that's normal thing to see. The stray mostly are not afraid of human... It surprised me when i watch a lot of animal (cat especially) videos in the west saying, usually cat won't do that, they won't do this with human unless bla bla bla... 😮 I couldn't fathom that. 🤔 There is korean and japanese TH-camr (I've found) said that the situation of the stray cats in their country are similar in the west, the stray cats are wary of people... Again, you don't have to agree with what i said, it's just a matter of observation and opinions, also perspective. And i also agree with the general message that you said cat in Malaysia compared to how it is treated in the west are not treated as it should based on your own perspective. Different way of seeing things . 😊😅
He’s very Malaysian already ❤

And if anyone is looking for cats, go to your local pet shops or pet centres, they know the local cat rescue places.
You’re right, the availability of low-cost neutering is a huge factor in cat overpopulation.
My brother in law wait for 23 years for his blue ic. Rhadd just have to die first before alive again to get it at jpn counter.
If he's born in Malaysia to a Mlaysian parents (either one) then he should get his Malaysian birth certificate immediately and at 12 years old he should get his Malaysia National Identity Card without problem. Unless of course your brother in law is illegal foreigner!
😂
@@persada5913 He already got it last friday in feb 2024. Now at time being, he's getting his new Malaysian passport to boast & gloat in front of me. I'm happy for him of course, but this is ridiculously hard to get, and not everyone is lucky. He is from Pakistan, so I guess it is harder. Hopefully Rhadd not going to wait a millenium to get one.
Hahahaha perhaps in my next life.
The tsunami was really devastating. My friend was working in an underground bar and was trapped for 2 days before being rescued. He also lost part of his leg due to infection. Rhadd was really lucky
Yes, he was
They have headhunters in Borneo. He's lucky he got away. Just kidding.😁
He went to the cat city of Kuching.
Michelle has a bit of headhunter in her so I didn't get away!
Have you heard of Cat Beach in Penang? I've been donating to them now for about 5 years.
Yep. My first 2 cats came from Cat Beach! 🤗
@@andrewtaylor4558 I knew there was a good reason why I adore you (but mostly Earl Grey!!)
Another good video CupCake!
Thank you, honey bun. 😂
I hope you can arrange meet and greet with Earl Grey. 😊
Everyone should get to meet Earl Grey! He's an amazing cat!
Andrew is the original Cat.
Just saying..☺
Hi Taylor ... really luv yr channel ... thinking of making the move myself ... coming out for a couple of weeks in October wonder if I could make contact with to chat about moving over ...
Mitch
That’s great you wanna move but I’m afraid I’ve gotten too busy to chat. 😂😂😂
🤔
Btw you can report to the authorities whenever u see animal been abuse..there are cases that went viral and action had been taken against the perpetrator.
Living in australia ..weather problem go back to kl...healthy sweat
he speaks word by word. is that louisiana accent?
Yep
I don't have the typical Louisiana accent but little hints of my original accent slip through.
Smart man
Thank you for your kind words
Have you tried Thai or Vietnam before deciding where you lived
I visited both
OMG! Horrible and cruel to drown kittens 😢
Yep 😩
God bless animal rescuers
Good morning Taylor..
Interesting video..
Most Malaysians prefer cats to dogs because dogs especially the stray/street dogs bring some fetal diseases such as rabies like the case just happened in Sarawak recently, and dogs are quite dangerous when attacking people who walk in the streets or even to the delivery men or postmen, old people and children.. they will bite and cause more serious injuries... whereas street cats they don't do harm like dogs do, normally they will come asking for food or they'll just run or hide away when seeing strangers..😁Btw, Malaysians don't eat rats like our neighbours do that's why you can see many of rats living around here 😂
Hope can rescue stray dogs. Thanks
I love dogs too. Sadly space limits our ability to rescue dogs.
My cats just watch rats stroll by with disinterest because of their size. My dog does the dirty work.
😧
Friends to watch football n basketball
Interesting gentleman, he’s a musician, but didn’t elaborate on that? I think street dogs can be a big problem, anywhere in Asia, that doesn’t seem to be dealt with in a way that we do in the west?
🤔
Rat population is controlled to a certain extent by the Local Councils and Health Dept. by regulations. If during a regular check rats are found in eating places the Health authorities will issue a shut down order until the problem is rectified.
In my younger days in the 60's, in my town, 110 miles (176 km) northwest of Kuala Lumpur, the Local Council issued rat traps to locals and paid 3 cents (worth 25 sen presently) for each dead rat brought in. Soon unscrupulous locals started breeding rats and cashed in on the bonanza. The plan was abandoned when found out.
😂😂😂
Cats are actually having far better life here in Malaysia than dogs. It's nuisance when cats break into someone house to do their business.😅 But stray dogs are mostly got killed after being caught by the council.
🤔
Cats are treated better here than dogs. However, I like dogs better.
Dogs are great too!
Noble
Andrew looked befuddled the whole interview, but I think it's just the light
😂
Rats are everywhere in cities. Even Washington dc.
Yes, I saw plenty in DC! 🐀
@chrisq.6857 sometimes local councils here put traps during clean up operation. Huge rats even cats are afraid to catch them.
Yeah...rats! Can't do much when Pied Piper has retired..
And i don't agree with what you said about cat in Malaysia act cute so they can get food, usually stray cat is feed by many people, so they're "used to" mingling with human.. unlike in the west, sorry to say...
There is korean and japanese TH-camr (I've found) said that the situation of the stray cats in their country are similar in the west, the stray cats are wary of people...
Again, you don't have to agree with what i said, it's just a matter of observation and opinions, also perspective. And i also agree with the general message that you said cat in Malaysia compared to how it is treated in the west are not treated as it should based on your own perspective. Different way of seeing things . 😊😅
The stray cats here do catch rats, seen that with my own eyes when one of these cats walked right in front of me with a rat in its mouth.
