    having a tank car industry there is an interesting idea. However, if you plan to be more realistic, locomotive maintenance and storage buildings are usually closer to the yard for ease of access.

    Tanker facility would be the best option. But if you want, you can add a section on the outside of the layout for the engine service facility.

  • @HLTrains5003
    @HLTrains5003 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    Definitely a locomotive facility. You can still roll freight cars in there for sand, parts, diesel, and even "broken" locomotives. It might even be a great place for a restoration place for a steam locomotive

  • @duszty

    Tank car industry in that spot is interesting, but definitely engine maintenance somewhere on the layout.

    I like the idea of a tank car industry, which would add some interesting operations and keep things fun. However, you could also find a spot on the layout or build a small extension to add the engine house. That way, you can have both!

    Definitely go with an industry. That will give the layout more operation fun. If you can, maybe you could add a bump out to the layout so you can have your engine facility. Also consider having having a team track. So many options for cars.

    I would think of the tanker idea, and then before it, you can put a swich that leads to the maintenance shed so u can fit them both, maybe if u dont have enough room, you can add some wood and foam to fit it on so that way both types can be happy 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉

    Dear Top Railroad, cool vid! For the stub end yard spurs it seems obvious to choose the engine facility. However, not knowing what else you’re planning to put in the adjacent corner of the layout, I prefer to recommend the oil industry/locomotive fueling station. This may open up this section better than the rather large engine house. Cheerio

    I love the idea of the tank car industry. I would however look to see how much of a track lead you’d have for that industry with the warehouse going in on the other end of the track. This may cause spacing issues. Either way it’s going to look great!
    Edit to add: you could do engine facility with a small RIP track. A good excuse to run and yard cars that don’t have an industry on your layout.

  • @toolguybak
    @toolguybak 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Layout is looking good!
    I vote for engineer facility. Suggest moving the engine barn up a bit, put one track through the barn and add a turntable at the end.
    Do NOT use the abrasive track cleaner. It will put scratches in the rail which traps moisture, causing oxidation. Use CRC 2-26. Spray on a cloth and simply wipe the rails. It is plastic safe.

  • @jasper_saberwolf
    @jasper_saberwolf 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great work! I think you should do the engine facility, it just stood out to me visually, and could be a good hub for your locos for scenes/photos etc. I set up a similar bridge/ river scene though with a double track truss bridge....and i'm planning on putting a similar one for a double track girder bridge like yours in somewhere else. I'm hoping to model it after a local walking trail spot that used to be part of the Montour Railroad here in Pittsburgh. They kept the double girder bridge and theres wood planks over where the track used to be. Its all weathered and might look cool with trees around!

    I have honestly tried to follow your videos and all your different track layouts and tearing up track in building a new track right now. It looks like I’m looking at an episode two for two weeks ago. Am I good at looking at this? I’ve seen two years one year nine months. I’ve seen a L-shaped a circle. Take care of your money, but you do what you want I’m kind of in the same way. I built a great end scale layout and now I’m starting fresh with an indoor in a spare bedroom with, folding tables and foam on top and going to be a good size HO scale of course with scenery and atlas track and NCE power cab. I have two so I will take one from my garage and scale layout and put one of those into my layout I do have two originally on the end scale so two people could run, but anyhow, yeah, just trying to keep up with what’s going on and I’m guessing you might not have a girlfriend only mean that in the sense that your time of building and money spent on the railroad with hey you’re loving it good for you I would probably do the same thing

    I see your track is on foam but why no cork or homesite. I have found I can get perfect curves when using cork after drawing on the center of track on the foam. I also slip the extending rail from one flex track to the next with rail joiners not soldered and that prevents kinking and keeps in Guage with no need to spike the he'll out of the track.
