I never would’ve dreamed that “Corrections” would be become the highlight of my week.
I know Seth deserves vacation like everyone else, but my mornings are just no good when he's on hiatus.
Don't worry, he gets a lot more vacations (and pay) than ordinary workers.

Okay, I am going to correct a Jackal here as a former worker in a Reptile House. The reptile houses of smaller zoos usually feature amphibians as well. Inevitably there will be a poison dart frog, a megamouth frog, a couple of salamanders and an axolotl.
That's what I was thinking! Like "There's definitely amphibians in the Reptile House" bc I've 100% seen a poison dart frog in there
Our zoo has a "small animal house" because it includes all the reptiles, amphibians, spiders, small cats, armadillos, bats, birds, and just whatever needs temperature control.
Though even the "small animal house" is misleading, because the Siamese Crocodiles have an indoor space there for winter and they are definitely not small.

So fun trivia, the whole "counting November, December, January, 3 months" problem (when it's actually 2 months) has a name: it's called a/the "Fencepost Problem". (If you have a 10 foot fence with a post every 2 feet, you need more than 5 posts...) A special kind of "off by one error"

Dude, I can tell you’re still attending impression camp, because that was seriously the best impression of a phone ringing I’ve ever heard. Most people lamely go, “brring, brring!” Yours was quite realistic and also pitch perfect! 👌
Kinda weird thing to do with your lips on the teevee though. Over and over and over.
On the other hand, Seth’s impersonation of "Graphics" seemed to be a bit different at first. Then it switched backed to the original dialect to finish the bit. Impression camp summer school is enrolling.
And then, when he was like "don't believe me? watch" then did it live and sat lamely looking at the camera while it rang and Samberg didn't pick up

First time Jackal-You forgot to mention the midnight ride of Sybil Ludington, a 16 yo girl who rode over 40 miles and warned 400 militia men of the impending British army. She covered twice the distance of the others and is often left out of history books because, sexism.
Sybil Ludington is my favorite character from the Revolutionary War. She's so underrated, most people don't even know she exists, which is such a shame. Guess Longfellow couldn't find a rhyme for Ludington either.

This is my favorite part of my little jackal week.
Thank you for including my comment on Paul Revere's Ride in your corrections. I hesitate to include another on the same topic, but I should point out that the reason for Revere's prominence in Longfellow's poem has little to do with better scansion. The other riders, like Dawes or Prescott, were ordinary patriots and men who did important work, but returned to obscurity. Revere, however, had already made a name for himself as a leading propagandist for the Revolution and was exceptionally well-connected in the artisan community. He was especially involved with the Freemasons, becoming Grand Master of Massachusetts after the War. He also became an early industrialist, continuing his prominent role in the early American Republic-- hence the plethora of items available even today that bear his mark.
I won't say that he would have still been so famous without the Midnight Ride, but it is quite possible that he might still have been remembered. The same could not have been said about the other riders.

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention the phrase that I'd been taught in school. When Seth said, "The regulars" instead of "the British" as if he were making a correction, I was sure he was baiting jackals to call him out on that. I haven't been able to find anyone yet in comments saying what we had been taught on the east coast. A lot of us GenXers were taught that Paul Revere called out, "The redcoats are coming!".
Reggie is great to work with. He will scent mark the sound booth, but other than that, a true delight.
So, Seth brought in 8 baggies of crystal meth for his crew? Now that's a nice boss for ya.
CORRECTION: You don't actually get just a single rabies shot. When you first go in after getting bitten, they give you 10-15 different shots around every single break in the skin, injecting some of the medicine each time they stick you. I got bitten by a wild dog and got stuck almost 70 times! Then you have to go back in a second, third, and fourth time for single shots on days 3, 7, and 14 after exposure.
Jesus - sounds like it would be easier to just die of rabies...
So glad there's no rabies in my country.

I did not know that, so I looked it up and not only are you right, I also found out I need to renew my rabies vaccination. After establishing an immunity with three shots over a month and then another after a year, the vaccination should be refreshed every 3-5 years. So thanks for the reminder :)
They don't do that to you unless they think you are not white.

Correction to Robin Williams: While what he said is certainly true, he neglected to mention is that baseball is also like baseball on Valium.

Further correction for Seth: You misquoted yourself. In the Specjackular you said coozy was a portmanteau of "coozy" and "cool." You did NOT say "coozy" and "beer" as stated in this video. If you would just slow down and double-check your notes before reading them on air we wouldn't have issues like this.

If someone gives me the ep dates/numbers, I can cut one together easily if they don't remove it for copyright or whatever.
Correction: When imitating the commenter typing "First!", you only did five bangs (the last blunk was clearly pressing enter) even though you specifically said there is also an exclamation point. Therefore it should have been six bangs and then a blunk.
The last "blunk" _could_ have been left-clicking the mouse which was already located over the REPLY button, but yeah, he'd still need a SHIFT+bang for the exclamation point.
“Bang” is a term for an exclamation point, so *actually* Seth’s pantomime ought to be notated as : five BLIPS (letters), one Bang (punctuation), and one PLUNK (“Enter).
Also, in the pantomime the 4th blunk he did was with his right hand, on the right side of the keyboard, that's not where the key for "s" lives. And i doubt anyone while typing presses "s" with their right hand
"Six Bangs and a Blunk" would be a great name for a band.
Seth - my Gramma died on Wednesday morning, and while it was a relief, the grief didn't hit me until last night. I knew that watching Corrections would give me a smile today, a day where I'm feeling rather numb. Thank you, as always, for your comedy.
Also, Sybil Ludington did a ride as a 16 year old girl and has a song in a play often done by 5th Graders called "13 Colonies" with a line "Sybil Ludington so glad you came here, too bad your name doesn't rhyme like Revere, you'll miss the folk's songs and textbooks we fear."

I had a job interview yesterday, it was in a group, not the individual kind, and they had us all play with Lego bricks but they, and everyone else, kept calling them "Legos" and I, of course, wasn't gonna correct them since I need the job, so I ended up calling them "Legos" too, so as not to look like the jerk who passive-aggressively corrects people, but it ticked me off every time 😂😂
what kind of job interview was this? what kind of evil mastermind tortures small groups this way? maybe they did that to see if anyone would use the correct plural, and you talked yourself out of a job by conforming and using “legos”? i need answers.
@@megamegamega it was a group interview. I haven't had many myself but it felt different, a sentiment the others echoed when we were asked for feedback at the end. For example, they had us build a condo complex with Lego bricks following certain requirements the project needed to fulfill, and then they would change the task on the fly to see how we adapted and if we were able to maintain our ideas despite the changing environment so to speak. It was really nice and engaging. Also, so different from what you'd expect from a job interview that it does keep your head in the right place instead of it getting obsessed with you being in a job interview and getting anxious. Didn't stop me tho 😂 my anxiety flared up near the end still, but it was a great experience

Icing on the cake, I got fired from the job I wasn't enjoying. At least I got severance. True icing, tho, I started Tuesday at a different company already so, I was lucky enough to be unemployed for all of 11 days. Training's been going smoothly and I'm finding the new place really comfortable. The money is less than my budget but I can stretch out the severance payment to make it work until the money improves in a few months after some tests to get a bonus, so, all good, really. How's your employment situation, since we're sharing and all? 😂😂
So, with regard to the "First!" issue, TH-cam uses an asynchronous storage process for its comment database. That means you don't actually see all the comments on a youtube video, generally speaking. TH-cam has multiple databases in different countries (to provide speedy delivery of service) that are cross-propagating their contents, so _eventually_ all comments are accessible everywhere, but this means that multiple people may get "first comment" independently in different regions and when the comments sync up across all the different servers some people wind up being the losers.
This is also why sometimes you may get listed as having more comment replies than you are able to see, and it's also true of video like totals which is why they fluctuate oddly sometimes.
To summarise- there is a delay.

As for there being a delay... there's _sort of_ a delay? But also there isn't a delay? The comment is registered by TH-cam's system immediately, but it's just not registered _everywhere_ immediately. So the confirmation of the correctness of any given first claim may or may not have a delay, depending on where you are and how many other people are also trying to get first.

Thank you for the explanations. Data servers are interesting. My brother accidentally deleted his entire gmail inbox, and was depressed because he lost messages from our Dad, who had just died. I asked a friend (who worked for Google) what to do. My brother ended up filling out some request form online. Hours later, he was sitting at a computer at the library, watching his entire mailbox re-populate. You can delete email on your side, but not on your providers' side!

When you go to the comments section and see there are 0 comments, I think there's a natural inclination to note that you were there first. Maybe it's never happened to you, but it has for me.
i always wondered if it started as a somewhat obnoxious thing by those with nothing to say.. but also encouraged by creators, to get the comment chain going on their vids, to hit that devil algorithm right in it’s ugly face

CORRECTION: While not exactly ‘wrong’, Seth, your phrasing during the bobcat joke was poorly executed and could be confusing (around the 10:28 mark). You said “I called up the audio guy and was like ‘How is Reggie?’, and he’s in the hospital.” This is called a syntactic ambiguity, because we can’t know for sure who was in the hospital - Reggie, or the sound guy. No judgement - I know we all just want to be better, and your jackals are here to help 🙂

I feel like the Specjackular not being a Corrections according to Corrections canon is going to cause some calculation errors down the road and unnecessary corrections... Actually there's no way anyone who hasn't been here since the beginning would be watching, so it probably fine. Also, i guess the point of Corrections is that all the corrections are unnecessary.
basically pushes the "season start" back by a week each year and I don't think leap years will make up for that. they're probably assuming Seth won't be doing this from the retirement home 40 years from now. they're wrong.

CORRECTION: typically speaking you do find amphibians in the reptile house because they have similar care needs. And pretty much every single zoo amphibians will be there be found in the reptile house or the bug house if they have a bug house or a combination of the two. And in one rare case I saw amphibians in the aquarium section. But most commonly they are found inside the reptile house.

When Neil Armstong was on the moon, I believe they used radio signals to communicate and not telephones, so he would probably not hear a ringing sound on the other end of the line.

Nasa did use radio, but mission control would of called the white house on a telephone. And they had loud speakers then.
Ehh ... they (Houston Control) were, in Seth's story, ringing the President - so, if they were going to relay (or "patch through") the President, then he would also hear the ringing tone before the President answered. That is, of course(!), only if Houston patched through the ringing tone! It's not rocket science 😉

Reggie's in the hospital? That's tragic, I saw him in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and he was great, a very memorable portrayal.

CORRECTION: A beer koozie is not a portmanteau; it is a genericized brand name for a foam sleeve product made to the keep coolness of a beverage in, rather than out... the opposite function of the tea cozy (which arguably, is the inspiration for the name) a sometimes-knitted or insulated cover placed over a teapot to keep the beverage warm. The Koozie or KOOZIE has been falling in and out of trademark since 1980.

Correction: Cutting off the head and sending it out to get tested is an out dated method of rabies detection. Now days "Tests are performed on samples of saliva, serum, spinal fluid, and skin biopsies of hair follicles at the nape of the neck." According to the CDC
can confirm it's usually spinal fluid in practice. friend of mine got bit by a street mutt while in India and had to get spinal fluid extracted in a rural hospital in India, then again once he got home. very adventurous, especially considering the results came back negative.

Correction: Zoos have other “houses”, e.g. London Zoo has an Elephant and Rhino House (but no elephants).
What happened ? Did the Rhinos kick the Elephants out of the "Elephant and Rhino House"? And why did they do that ?? Did the elephants say they were "a Rhino Herd In Name Only" ?
The Zoo that we call Congress has a House of Representatives. While many of the members are monkeys and reptiles, some are other animals, such as turtles and Marjories.

Also rabies has a massive mortality rate, close to 100%. Very few people, less than 10, have reportedly survived a symptomatic infection of rabies.

D) you could've gotten Bobcat Goldthwaite to just make some of his trademark noises, thereby you would've had legit bobcat noises instead of lazily inserted obvious mountain lion noises, as though we wouldn't notice.

I think it is inaccurate even if they are the first to hit enter. They are celebrating being first to make a comment, which I would argue they are not doing with their single word celebration of rank, even though it is counted as such by YT.
When I was young, I watched cartoons on Saturday morning. Now that I'm 37 going on 73 I was corrections on Saturday mornings.

So, "Koozie" is a registered trademark in the US, but it has lost it trademark several times since it was first registered in 1980, and is now a generic name for the product, similar to Q-Tips.
The name was created by a man named Bob Autrey from San Antonio Texas, but I was unable to find a definitive answer on the meaning of the name. The most likely explanation is that it is an adaptation of the word cozy, which is a knitted sleeve for keeping tea cups warm.
However, there are also two slang words that came up in my searching: the word "cooze" which is slang for female genitals, and the word "coozy" which is slang for a promiscuous woman, possibly related to the word floozie. So it's possible this product started out as something else.
I always thought it was cozy + cool.
I adore the research that went into your comment! That being said, I have never seen a cozy for a teacup and think they would be quite ineffective since heat rises and would be lost at the surface of the tea much more than the sides of the cup. All my cozies (autocorrect did not like this word) are for teapots, but I do have a lidded (had to fight for this word also) teacup. ☕

There's reptile, nocturnal, aviary, and insect/bug houses. Basically any animal that needs a specialized environment has a house like the penguin house.

The highlight of my week, seeing if my jackaling will make it into Corrections. Rarely does, but the anticipation is a joy, celebrating with a sense of pride my jackal brothers and sisters who make it and maybe even contribute to a running joke, gives me hope that maybe, one day, I will join their ranks.
This is a cherished institution, a groundbreaking innovation that makes the audience feel personally involved. One day, perhaps the same day Seth recognizes my clever correction, this segment will be awarded its highly deserved Emmy.

Hey y'all first time corrector, long time watcher. As a resident of Texas all my life and an Eagle Scout. Spent many nights out in the woods out here in the Dallas area. What we get here are bobcats. They are ferocious little animals, but only a little larger than a house cat. Now for a cougar or mountain lion (either name acceptable) I would direct you to the 1993 Walt Disney classic with Don Ameche / Sally Field / Michael J. Fox the wonderful tail
