I think your the 1st to press on this shoe Emily. Thanks for keeping us current. I have a collection of great daily trainers so I only have 180 miles on my Mach 4 's. My 3 Musketeers are my Mach 4 's, Novoblast 2, and my Max Road 5 's. All for one and one for all!!!

what’s funny is I just got my morning run in my newly purchased Mach 4’s, because I am super frugal. I appreciate this 1st impression video though.. truth be told, I may buy another pair of 4’s, the 5’s look super sharp though.
I just bought a second pair of the Mach 4 (I loved my 4’s last year) since they are discounted but now I’m thinking I need to try the 5 as well. 😂

FIRST impression.
Narrow mid-foot, all I needed to hear and the only thing I was worried about with this shoe (had the same issue with Clifton 8s and Bondi 7s). Re-buying Mach 4s now on that discount, thanks for the review!
Hoka announced recently that Mach 5 is available in wide. One colour for now.
Nice review. Glad it's softer than the March 4, which I have and I don't find all the soft. For me, the Mach 4 feels somewhat firm and, I agree, flat.
The Mach Supersonic color is GOOOOOORGEOUS!!!!!
The mach 4 and 5 are both Great and couldn't recommend them enough. I really only have one issue and thats the durability. I really really wish they put rubber on the outsole. If you can get a mach on sale I would because they really are kinda the same the 4 and 5. I will say that women's color way is fire!! compared to the men's the women's colors are way better as per usual.

finally just recently retired my mach4s after 850k, i dearly loved them. to the point that i was ready to get another pair, as they are on sale now everywhere anyways. never bought a shoe twice tbh. but seems like i'd rather go for the 5s now anyways. stoked.
The only issue I had with the Mach 4 is that the “bounce” feel beyond a 6mile run was significantly lost after 350miles. It became a short-efforts shoe after that. I know many runners change shoes at 300 miles of use, but my Saucony Endorphin Speed v1s and V2s, as well as my Asics Novablast 2s retained their qualities at triple the mileage. If Profly+ could extend its life, I’d give it another try.
I usually go 400 miles on shoes but things usually drop off after 300-350 miles. One thing is that the The 2021 and 2022 shoes have more cushioning than older shoes and it may very well be that these are overall better for your legs, even out to 400 miles. It's been a bit of a technology revolution the past couple of years.
Lol dude, 350 miles losing a bounce in EVA foam? That’s totally fine and expected. Edit: I do agree with you about endo speed. I have 450 on those and while they’ve lost some pop, I can still run pretty fast in them
I want an Arahi 6 but the Hoka Store employee test my foot first and based on the result I can use all the Hoka models Except for Arahi 😓 because it's usually for flat footed runners. I'm down to 3, Clifton 8, Rincon 3 and Mach 5. I've found that the Mach 5 is much more secure in my foot and my initial impression is it usually good for Long slow distance, Uptempo and fast pace running. Haven't tried to use it in a more than 10km run session but looks promising. the only downside that I see is that the outsole easily wears out hopefully they solve this in a next iteration.
You crack me up. No pale leg shaming here! I was probably the only person on earth who didn’t like the Mach 4 (carbon x2 was better at the time for me).
Thanks run like heller! Cushion can cause off balance feeling. Hoka looks like they are focused on cushion. Weight can cause unsmooth feeling. So looking for rubber and foam analysis. Grip! Molding! Mizuno insoles!!!! Rubber and foam weight? Thanks. Righteousness.

I finally got the Mach 5 yesterday. Extremely comfortable. I am surprised they fit you. I have 2E feet and got the normal width and it's fine. Usually Hoka wide are the same width midsole & insole but just more loose upper so this was perfect. You have narrow feet and you can run in them. Amazing. The shoe does resemble the Speed 2 from Saucony.

I have the 4, I like it but I understand what you said, rocker technology seems not to work well here...and recently I decided to put Mach 4 in the recovery runs. I personally prefer the Rincon line for the long runs...I have just purchased the Rincon 3 and they are lighter, faster and.they have a better running sensation...well this is my opinion...best!
Hi Emily! I love that color of the Mach 5 over the Supersonic's radiant yellow by far.
Very promising! I love any improvement in midsole ride, and my feet like a nice secure midfoot lockdown so the fit would work for me. I just retired my Mach 4 and am set with a couple of other new shoes, but like hearing about improvements. I also like rubberized outsole because wearing through a patch on a separate outsole early can make you retire a shoe that is otherwise like new. Martha

I loved my Mach 4s, and bought the Mach 5 as soon as they were released here in Australia. Loved the Mach 5 even more, was softer and so much fun to run in. I then stumbled upon a sale of the clifton 8 and my opinion of the Mach series has changed, they now feel "flat" compared to the clifton. The clifton midsole for me feels average when walking around compared to the Mach but when I start running, wow they are the perfect daily trainer for me. Not sure if it's a more pronounced metarocker or the fact that I'm a heavier runner and I compress the foam more?
I totally know what you mean. While I enjoy the Mach, it has felt flat to me at times. I think the Clifton just has a more pronounced rocker. Also different foams- Mach is Profly+ and Clifton is their standard EVA.

I don’t know, but in the last 12 months I never saw a real positive Hoka Shoe review…you did all right, don’t get me wrong, but I was expecting a real innovation for the version 5….., same for Brooks…..both brands disappeared in my shoe rotation…..🤷🏻♂️
That’s fair! People have all different taste when it comes to shoes and I understand your point when it comes to innovation.

Would you rather pay $105 for the Mach 4 or $140 for the Mach 5? I was going to buy the Mach 4 and just saw that the Mach 5 comes out in 3 days. The Mach 4's are marked down so now I'm torn.
Honestly not toooo much is different. I like the ride of the Mach 5 a little better but they’re both fun shoes!

Great review and comparison in terms of mid foot how narrow if comparing to bondi 7 or nb 990 v5 yes I know each shoe is fifteenth curious. Also hi ruby getting some sun.
I think it’s a little wider than Bondi 7 and maybe equal to 990 but unsure

Great review, the 5 looks similar to the 4, I think it's a shame Hoka didn't put a nylon plate in the 4 and 5 it would be a super shoe, they are a superior daily trainer as it is.

How does Mach 5 compare with New Balance 1080v11? Is it the same type of softness/bounce ?
I would say the 1080 has more of a rocker sensation helping to roll you into your next stride. Might be a little softer too. But the Mach 5 has a bit of bounce in the foam that I think the 1080 doesn’t have
The Mach 4 are like $104 rn. Taking that into consideration, which one is better, the 4 or the 5?
