    I picked up a once-used pair for $55 today. I only ran a 5k in them and found the carbon plate and midsole foam not as springy and forgiving as the RC Elite 2 or Saucony Pro 2. I think they'll be great for city distance running because how good they corner.

    Thanks for this Michael. Great info to know, but with my wide foot it will likely never fit me.
    Nice to see you back running in beautiful Chicago, not that the Iowa countryside was not beautiful also. But you make me so nervous running along the edge of that wall and on the frozen ice of the lake! I took a fall last weekend on a slippery rock on an otherwise bare dirt trail and landed hard on my right thumb pad. It was black and blue for a week but thankfully no broken bones! Be careful out there!

  • @marylandflyer5670
    @marylandflyer5670 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve run extensively in X1, and one thing I don’t understand about the X2 design is how moving the plate closer to the ground helps them be more forgiving? I would think moving the plate more to the middle of the padding would make them feel better a la Vaporfly.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      one thing I believe it does it change the ratio of CM EVA to rubberized EVA. more of the softer stuff. less of the denser stuff.

  • @williamdyer9809
    @williamdyer9809 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the original Carbon X. I'm frustrated. My left shoe has become uneven. In the front area of the outer sole, the inner part has worn a lot more than the outer part because of my foot strike. So the outer sole area of the front area is a lot higher than the inner sole area of the outer sole. These shoes only have 83 miles on them.

  • @paulcain1285
    @paulcain1285 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting review, I bought the Rocket X to replace my New Balance TCs but although the Rocket X is a good shoe, and I feel you can lock-in a decent rhythm they just don’t feel as fast as say the Vapourfly. I think the TC was better. I’m interested in the Carbon X2 as more a long distance trainer, that keeps the legs feeling good.

    • @Neilveg
      @Neilveg 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Carbon X2 is feeling better than the TC for my running style but early days for the X2. The X2 is a lot more stable than the TC and I would predict getting more mileage out of the X2 as well. The positioning of the Carbon plate suits me more than in the TC.

    Looking for a carbon plated marathon shoe - not a fast marathon pace by any means, and am considering this. I ran in the Bondi for Chicago this year but it wrecked my feet with blisters at the longer miles and I lost a few toenails indicative of a size issue - I use a 9.5, for Hoka's, do people think that I should size down a 1/2 size?

  • @stefanogiusti5423

    Do you think it could be the right shoe in terms of comfort for extra distances, 100K and beyond, even for those who don't run at Jim Walmsley's pace. In other words, do you think they could be comfortable even at 9:40 to 10:30 mins / miles in a 24 hour race (about 200Km)?

      I had the original CarbonX and in Hoka in general I had to go with 8.5 whereas I wear a 9 in most running shoes (Brooks, Saucony and others) and only rarely 9.5 in some NB and Nike shoes that run short IMO. I also size down to 8.5 in adidas (Boston eg) as I find they run long as well. If I were to get the CX2, I’d definitely order my smaller size based on their being even longer than the original CX.

    You'd think with technology these days that there would be some way that manufactures could reduce the stack height of shoes. The stack height of Hoka One One are one the things that keep me from purchasing this shoe. It just raises the center of gravity way too high for taller runners... and if you're on a curving route there comes time where confidence comes into question. I look forward to the time where they just about 1/2 the height of the shoe with better tech in materials to accomplish what their shooting for with the shoe.

      Me too. Every change that was described in the one review I saw is a change that will make it a better shoe for me than past iterations. While the stats of the past Kinvaras have been right up my alley, on my foot they never felt snug enough in the midfoot, eg, compared to my shoes in that category. I’m excited to hear your review, Mike.

    Great first impression, Ko! It was heartbreaking watching Jim missing the WR by 11 seconds. How did the shoe feel while cornering at your MP? How was the grip on wet surface?

      As someone with both of these I agree, the endorphin speed is also a faster shoe! The one caveat is for anything > 15 miles I’d choose the x2. Just personal preference I think the hoka midsole more forgiving for longer distance

      Having had the original Carbon X, even though knowing v.2 is more responsive, I’d agree with kofuzi that up to HM, you should go with the Metaracer. I think the CarbonX will shine at longer distances but be less nimble at shorter, faster races.

    How much space did you end up having at the front of the toe box given you thought the shoe ran long?

    • @wonkydonkey7899
      @wonkydonkey7899 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Everyone’s feet are different, so the space at the toe area is vary. You need the space because your feet swell during the run. The last thing you want is having your toes cramped. That said, the version 2 does run a little longer. Some people go half a size down. I’d still advise that you stay true to size.

    • @thehossdog1
      @thehossdog1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wonkydonkey7899 hey thanks, yes I know you need space at the toe box but as these run long I wondered how much was there to feel like sizing down might be the option.

    • @wonkydonkey7899

      @@thehossdog1 the carbon x2 is widely available currently. It won’t hurt to pay your local sporting good stores a visit that carry Hoka one one, and try them on to get a perfect fit. You can always order two sizes online and return the one that fits too long to your liking. I hope this helps.
      P.s if I told you it left a thumb’s space in my toe box, it wouldn’t necessarily mean you’d have the same space as mine depending on the length of our toes, which are different from person to person.

  • @fullstop7457

    Just some feedback for reviewing. I have very wide feet and I am a US 13. This pretty much eliminates 90% of all trendy shoes. Hoka, Nike, Adidas, etc are all write offs for me. When you talk about fit, it would be great if you explicitly mention whether the shoe is suitable for people with wide feet because it sucks so hard to watch a bunch of reviews, get excited about a product, and then realise it’s not for you.

      this doesn't have anything to do with track practice, but in college, my roommate and I really enjoyed playing racquetball. and afterwards, we would end each session with a round of Ultimate Racquetball, a game we invented where we stand on each side of the court and try to hit each other with the ball. it was like dodgeball and racquetball combined.
