    I’ve given up on stanning because in the past (when I was young and impressionable) there have been people that you could consider me a ‘stan’ of and they turned out to be terrible people. Me being so young it really affected me, so I much rather conserve my emotional energy and be a fan/casual listener than form a parasocial relationship. It’s so disheartening to see that stans and even black stans target and harass people and throw around evil anti black slurs like that just because someone has a difference of opinion. Hopefully these stans get the help/therapy that they need because this is not the behavior of an emotionally healthy person. I hope that you are ok especially with the harassment that you have been receiving

      Thank you for your comment! I'm sorry to hear how it affected you emotionally. I can totally understand. I've also come to realize that it's so much easier being a casual fan than it is to be so dedicated and get involved in different fandoms because you get exposed to so much more toxicity and it makes the fan experience less enjoyable. It's better to just enjoy the music (and whatever other content they put out) and move on rather than to try to get involved in cliques that might end up being a hub for bullying and abuse. Thank you again for your response ❤️

      I don't think the idiotic loser w/ "BLM" in their tag is black _at all._ I think it was either another troll account by the same white/non-black racist who made the troll QueenTiwa account or it was created by a white/non-black racist working in tandem with them. If racist trash is bold enough to use black face to degrade & disrespect black ppl, they'll definitely make fake accounts of black ppl to harass black ppl - ESPECIALLY black women.

    I am not necessarily a kpop fan anymore and it's been like that for almost 4 years however due to quarantine I began to listen to some songs I used to listen to when I was a fan. Since I was curious to know about what's happened in the fandom so far I decided to check it out, and I was very disappointed. Not only were people getting doxxed, but also blacklisted, their accounts reported, stalked in public, and a whole other things solely bc of what they said that is opposite the fans' opinions. The situation of Suga with Jim Jones is a lot bigger than many people think bc it really showed many fans' true colors and it showed how they would protect their artists no matter if they were in the wrong or not. And it was even bigger situation bc everyone all around the world, even Koreans themselves were upset with him and BigHit. And bc of that situation many black armys were doxxed, harassed, verbally abused during a very hard time for black people all over the world. Anti-Blackness is an issue that has existed in the kpop fandom for as long as I can remember and it has never been resolved because these fans would rather defend their artists blindly than to understand why black stans get upset at what certain idols do that are flat out offensive and disrespectful. Sorry if this is long and I actually wanted to make this a thread once on Twitter but I don't want to get sued by BigHit bc of what I'll say will affect their artists.

    Once again, a perfect video! I didn't know about the concept of Parasocial Relationships, and I will definitely look more into it!
    As soon as I shared your previous video on Twitter, people started sending me the screenshots you showed in it... It didn't take that long for me to realize they were fake. This practice of using the same techniques/elements to condense bullying on one person is very very scary. Hopefully raising awareness about it will prevent to happen again and create a safer fandom culture for everyone.

    There are times when the management is ignorant on many aspects of culture, which I'd say is a failed attempt to represent a group of people.
    I'm Muslim, and there are cases when idols performed concerts with a mosque (our place of worship) as a backdrop. A member of a group had a jacket with the sahadha (sacred text), so and so.
    Mistakes were made and of course were forgiven.
    But oh no, that doesn't stop stan twitter from being rude and ignorant towards Muslim fans. The islamophobia is so normalised.. It's treated as a joke when it's something dear and personal to us.
    So yeah..
    Just had to get this off of my chest. :)

      As someone older who grew up with black people in black culture for 25 years it isnt the management who are ignorant. The management are continuing traditions that have been the norm amongst black culture for decades, like all races practing the same culture. The fans mentality is diff to those older than them. Up until 5 years ago nobody even registered if a non-black person canerowed their hair or rhymed the "n" word in the club or used street slang. Now people are being all weird about it because newspapers decided to publish recently created academic terms such as "cultural appropriation". This term didnt exist. Before we were seen to be doing what our peers did. Our black peers would ask us to canerow their hair, would compliment our hair. Etc we were/are one of them. But younger gen are really trying to redefine social norms aswell as our history. A history they werent there for. They accept the lies social media tells them. Its heartbreaking. The division this concept of cultural appropriation is causing is very stressful to this old schooler. Never felt so alone as I do in the Kpop scene. It's quite painful being surrounded by a group of people so diff to the norm, so racist whilst god love them thinking they're being the opp of racist. Discriminating asians and whites for simply being a part of the exact same culture as them. I wish so much we could go back to 2015 before all this madness.

      Also being ignorant about Islamic tradition is not the same as Islamophobia. Islamophobia means something. Let's not water that word down. Unless they express hatred or discrimination towards Muslims then it isnt Islamophobia. That's like when fa s claimed Jay was islamophobic simply for using "Allah" as a metaphor completely ignoring Allah is an Arabic word and a Christian word. Jay is Christian I believe so he can use this word. He could use it regardless. He is literally just using Arabic. I dont see anyone make this fuss over Rakim.

    I am trying to figure out why non-black, American K-Pop fans actually think the K-Pop music scene will take over the American music scene? I am an 80s baby, so I was present during some of the music fads in the U.S., like "The Latin Explosion" during the late 90s. As of right now, K-Pop is considered to be a "music fad" in the U.S.
    Then there is the prevailing cases of being culturally insensitive or downright racist. How in the hell are K-Pop acts supposed to thrive in the U.S. music market, where the consumers are very diverse? How are K-Pop acts supposed to mingle with celebs- especially African-American celebs- and they mocked their culture?
    Then, there are the record labels big-wigs. Given the history, whenever something bad happened and it involved another race/culture, they wouldn't release a public apology. They don't "allow" their artists to publicly apologize. To me, it screams 'arrogance' and the perception that they believe the offended parties are beneath them and unworthy of their sympathies.
    Then add on their views about social statuses and colorism...
    With enough backlash, the businesses will scurry back to Korea and take their products with them.

      I’m so glad you mentioned this 😭 whenever an idol does something culturally insensitive, especially to anybody who happens to be American, Kpop stans come up with all sorts of excuses about they aren’t wrong and shouldn’t care. they also say that shouldn’t have to “care about American issues” solely because of the fact that they are Asian, but these same fans cry foul at American interviewers and media for not receiving their favorite artists well

      @@somethingisnotrighthere3831 because a lot of those K-Pop stans are bigots anyway. They just so happened to like K-Pop music.
      And the ones, who are of the same races/cultures of the offended parties, probably have their own internalized issues. They don't have problems with these K-Pop idols doing problematic stuff, but let an entertainer (from the same race or the same culture) do the same exact things...

      You grew up in the 80s? So you know these artists arent mocking black people by copying them. A lot of Kpop fans claim copying black people is wrong despite that's been part of the culture since the early 70s regarding hip hop and earlier if we're talking UK black culture that dates back to the early 50s. Black people generally dont care when we copy them. This is something concocted in 2015 by media trying to get clicks at the expense of creating racial division. They dont care about the little man. As long as they get clicks. And now 5 years down the line we have an old school hip hop head, Jay Park, having multiple videos slating him for doing what hes been doing for decades with no issue.

    I stopped stanning groups in 2017 and it's the best thing I've done. I just don't care anymore.. it was just a phase many girls had gone through before with 1D, NSYNC and many other groups. And I glad I'm over that. I used to only listen to kpop a few years ago like I was getting paid for it, and the 'idols' not even respecting black people. Here's my thoughts as an outsider looking in whose done some extensive research on this subject matter. I find the parasocial relationship aspect in kpop to be very disturbing. Im aware that not all kpop fans are underage teenagers but that doesn't change the fact that the age demographic that the record labels are trying to push these bands to are that underage teenage demographic. Why are they pushing a parasocial relationship with underage teenagers? And more importantly how is that not some form of pedophilia? How is it that their Korean fanbase will try and cancel say for example Lisa over her crazy horse performance saying it's inappropriate for her underage fanbase but yet they completely miss the aspect of pushing a parasocial fantasy relationship between any of these members who are 99.999999% of the time going to be of age with a 13,14, or 15 year old girl? Now that's a whole new breed of double standard. Because it's going 1 of 2 ways either nobody is Korea is making the connection here or they are cherry picking what the actual definition of inappropriate means and only applying it when it fits their narrative. So which is it? Cause it has to be one or the other it's only going one of the two ways here.

    I stopped listening to Khh/kr&b for the last couple years. I couldnt take it anymore. Just found the fans to be really racist and it was making me ill. Never experienced this level of racism from black people before and I grew up with them for 25 years. The discrimination from Kpop fans towards asians and whites just made me wander why they were even listening to Khh to begin with if they took such issue with others copying black people. Racism is wrong no matter who its aimed to. Its sickening and noone should be treated that way, ever.

    • @thatorashford3690
      @thatorashford3690 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But you're fine listening to Kpop or other genres of music where the fans are racist towards black people? And since when is calling people out or holding them accountable a form of racism? It's also weird how that makes you uncormfortable I swear y'all want to steal from black people, look down on us and gatekeep those spaces you created with our culture but we're the racist one's for calling that stuff out?

    • @DarkAngel2512
      @DarkAngel2512 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thatorashford3690 well the artists arent responsible for the fans actions. Makes no sense blaming the artists. Why would I stop listening to a genre of music based on some of its fans being racist? That would mean I wouldn't listen to any black music based on the racist black people I've encountered. But I loved the music too much to let a few idiots put me off. With Kpop its diff as the fans are online everywhere being annoying and in your face. I needed a break for a bit but I'm not going to throw away a genre I loved due to idiotic fans. Also out of curiosity what were the fans doing that was racist?
      Where did I say calling people out was racism? Calling them out for what exactly? The only way it would be racist is if you were being racially discriminatory or racially derogatory somehow.
      "You want to steal from black people"
      Sorry. I dont believe we've met before. What exactly is it you think I want to steal?
      "Look down on us".
      No, I look up to black people. Who exactly do you think I look down on and based on what?
      "Gatekeep those spaces you create with our culture".
      Well I worked in r&b nights for nearly 20 years and I can say we never "gatekeeped". Black people were naturally welcome. Be a bit odd if they werent.

      Thanks for the links. I'll check them now and get back to you...tomorrow as its midnight here.
      But like I said I'm not going to stop listening to a genre based on the fans when the artists did nothing wrong. The only reason I stopped following Khh/r&b was to get a break from the racism on comment sections and just the general energy of the fans.
      Even promoters like Seoul Therapy are racist about the artists making me not want to go to their events, particularly one of the things they were being racist about was hair and I always canerow my hair so I'm not going to their nights under the condition I dont do canerow. But makes you wonder why they even listen to the genre or happily make money from it if they have an issue with asians sharing cultural practices with black people.

      @@thatorashford3690 I'll respond quickly to your first article regarding the Kpop group. I dont know how that app mentioned works but I assume it's the website creators who have the power to delete users posts and not the artists' management. I would assume the management can only edit the artists' comments. But if they were told of the racist comments they could have flagged them to the app moderators.
      I dont see how one management mishandling something makes the 'whole Kpop industry racist' the way the person in the article claimed. Generalizations are ironic from people who claim to be against racial generalisations.
      But yeah, like I said there are racist Kpop fans. People can choose to stop listening to a particular group who they feel mismanaged something but that shouldnt apply to all of Kpop.
      Also the article mentioned the artists rhyming the 'n' word. There's nothing wrong with that. People do that in r&b clubs and noone bats an eyelid. I should know as I worked in those clubs for 20 yrs. It cannot be called a slur and then called a rap lyric when it suits. Context is key. If the person didnt use it to slur someone then it wasnt a slur.
      Regarding the racist comments linked to that story maybe people were racist about the artists and provoked a racist response. I dont know as I didnt follow the debacle. But people just really need to not be racist to begin with. Ever since social media and me being in contact with black Americans it's been this increased mention of race and how everything is supposedly racist. We werent like that in UK until Americans forced their identity politics onto us. Even terms you used above about "stealing". You throw that phrase out without realising how racist it is then likely wonder why you might eventually get people clap back at you. You get back what you put out. I dont agree with people being racist back but you really need to stop putting it out to begin with.

    • @thatorashford3690
      @thatorashford3690 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanted to touch on your other points but I got distracted. All I who say is that it's hard as a black person to be in spaces where you constantly see the people you admire mocking your and your culture but still see those same people benefiting from it. For example Jessi (an idol) grew up in America yet she stole two music video concepts from a black woman and got away with it. She also made a joke to another idol who said her skin was dark and told her she'd get lighter if she scrubbed hard enough further perpetuating the stereotype that darker skinned people are dirty.
      On the hair part, most black people dont get offended when non black people wear these styles the problem begins when these styles are worn for the purpose of appearing hard-core or dangerous and /or cool. We wear these styles because our hair needs to be proteced from time to time especially in winter and because non black people asociate these styles with coolnes they are considered unprofessional when we wear them at school or at the workplace and we get discriminated for them. I don't have a problem with a person wearing them because they want to look beautiful but don't wear them to try to look nd behave like a caricature of a black person.
      I do acknowledge that are black who are racist and who do harrass non black people for CA. I won't make any excuses for them and they must be dealt with but the problem is that people group all of us together and ignore those of us who are trying to meet people where they are at. Anyways I hope this doesn't come off as an attack, English isn't my first language so I'm working with what I have✌.

This is a claim I see made time and again but never with any evidence to back it. However it would be nice that black fans didnt discredit latinoes creative input in hip hop.

      Again with lumping people in. You're the one who needs therapy. And I'm not giving black people advice. If you want to fall in line with how most black people think and if you take issue with them exchanging the culture with us it is YOU with the problem, you who is racist about other groups and you who needs therapy.
      Dont expect us to change how we've lived for 30 years in my case and 70 years in others' cases. In UK black people came here in the late 40s and began sharing their culture with us. Even during World War II the black G.Is came here and taught our girls to Lyndy Hop.
      Stay bitter, angry and hateful. You're only hurting yourself. Nobody is going to change how they've lived nearly their whole life because some kids decided to start bringing back segregation.
      And I'm not Korean. I'm English. And their suicide rates arent related to the topic you're talking about. It's because of their work ethic. Perhaps if you spent more time working like them and less getting upset about petty shit you would have a more useful life. Like I said stay racist. The rest of us will stay appreciating each others differences and changing cultures and getting along happily while you sit in the corner letting anger and resentment eat away at you for no reason. Nobody cares about your self inflicted issues.
