4:58 The battery stuff happens because apps in China are notorious for using every trick they can to stay persistent in order to show ads/run background processes/etc. As a result, Xiaomi and other OEMs do aggressive system-level management in response.

@@TheMrMobileweirdly in regions where it's available, you actually get all notifications of your apps. My old Redmi phones does have all my notifications available with none that's missing unless disabled. It's probably just a US thing or China models or something since they are not available in your region, region lock, or simply just aren't supported in other countries.

Smart choice! I did a small ADB shell hack of my Flip 5 to have the screen rotated and be more square-ish portrait mode than square-ish landscape, and It's super annoying. Bought it months before the motorola razr 2024 came out and kind of regret goinf the samsung way. Besides, they removed so many widgets of the cover screen! Why does Samsung hate the cover screen so much!!!

I think the flippable market is becoming especially interesting because prices are actually going down in a lot of cases. I am a little worried that the larger folds are not going to penetrate market share enough at least in the North American market until we see lower prices.
Maybe one plus has the right idea but only releasing the phone every two years. If you buy the OnePlus open today you can get it for like 13 1400 bucks. Brand new. It's a de facto way to keep the price down

Imagine how much better Samsung's phones would be if Xiaomi and other Chinese brands could legitimately compete in the west. The fact that this has a bigger battery + nearly 3x faster charging than my Fold 5 and the "new" Fold 6 should be embarrassing for Samsung, but they don't have to lift a finger since relatively few people outside of China will pick these up. If not for the software issues I'd grab one for myself too

It's sad that these phones flop globally. But even then, Samsung phones are so poor compared to the competition now that I'm willing to get a Chinese phone.
Even though my S22 Ultra wasn't that great, it was still better thsn the competition overall no one could touch it and then the Xiaomi 12S Ultra was China only so I stoppes. After 2 years of seeing Chinese phone dominance I just can't NOT buy these phones.
I used to feel FOMO each year back in the day with Samsung phones, this is the first time I've held onto a phone for more than two years cus the offerings from Samsung suck and I'm just thinking of getting an Oppo or Vivo flagship if the next one gets global

I recently converted my three lines to Xiaomi phones with Global ROMs running in the US and i did not run into any of the notification or language issues. The Global ROMs seem to very polished and also lack the built in ads i remember from when i imported a Mi Mix 2S on the China ROM.

I loved it, oh my, if only I had the money to live in a country that isn’t ULTRA protective of its national industry (despite basically not having much of a national industry, just billionaires in Agro and a handful of businessmen like the old guy from Havan and the owner of Magazine Luiza-a store similar to Best Buy in Brazil-who do EVERYTHING to prevent imports and become even richer). Importing here costs a fortune in Brazil. This has been happening since 1985, after the end of the military dictatorship. There are so many products from the U.S. that everyone here wants, but it becomes impractical due to this damn protectionism. And it's protectionism for nothing, as nothing significant is developed here on a global level. It’s just to make the 1% richer and for the government to collect more.

I think its clear of the foldable phone market...flip phones I think have a future. Folds do not.
As I watch a bunch of reviewers talk about using 90 percent of a fold closed then the do open. Why would you spend 800 dollars more for 10 or so percent usage? Terrible value.
A flip does everything you need closed for quick usage and if you need to open it, it become a full use phone immediately. Easy to carry and will probably reach full IP rating faster each iteration than the larger book version.
I may get one eventually but I am still a full candy bar user at this time. Though I am intrigued. Great video as usual Mobile-man.

First flippable that's actually compelling, IMO. The software on the cover appears to be excellent, while quite a few of the complaints from the chinese software are addressed by the Global/EU ROM.
The main cam is also solid by the looks of it (RIP telephoto), those shots look roughly like what came out of last year's Xiaomi 13. Battery is like a regular smartphone as well.
I think I'm okay with having last year's (or 2 years ago's) mainstream-ish high end phone experience this year if it also flips into a square and has that cool-ass front display.
On the other hand, this being 2X the price in the EU ( Announced at 1300€ ) is kinda telling - they're expecting to lose money on warranty claims so needed the jack up the price.

You just blew my mind. And for the comments before me, you would be able to take normal photos without opening the phone and would still use it as a selfie viewfinder with the phone unfolded. And about scratching the cameras when you put the phone down... That's just how you put down any phone and the cameras are fine

That cover screen is 100% the best out of all the foldables. I'm not usually an enjoyer of Xiaomi's UI But this is the perfect middle ground between the restrictiveness of the Galaxy Z Flip and the anarchy of the Motorolla RAZR

Damn I'm sure the camera might not be the best in low light, but those daylight photos look really "cinematic", it's better than just a filter

I've said it before and I'll say it again. No matter how good xiaomi, oneplus, and even google phones are, whether it's slab or foldable, Samsung and Apple have nothing to worry about unless the competitors can actually match their truly global availability. Not their 'global' idea that's just a handful of countries. People in my country dont know any other phone companies other than samsung and apple, this long standing brand name carries into the future and sales

As a Xiaomi 13T Pro user, this phone is basically my phone but a clamshell with the latest Snapdragon processor. Even though HyperOS is a better skin than MIUI, it's still not a great one. Still, I'm surprised that you actually liked the phone's software.

The next generation of flip is always exciting.
Is apple the only guys out there without a flip or foldable? I guess they're just sitting back and watching how this all unfolds... no pun there 😊

I really wanna know your long term review on these phones. Wasn’t flip 5 supposed age much better than previous flips but I know someone who got it last year as soon as it launched but within 8 month has a line of black dead pixels spreading across the fold in the middle

I would try a flip, if it didn't have a screen on the outside.
I'm not interested in a phone that is both big and small, I just wanted a phone I can close. Although I would be interested in a half-height square phone instead of my usual candybar.

@TheMrMobile Adding to the previous reply, all Xiaomi notification system is in Mipush construct, which need dev verification and support, which google do not go through.
That may explains your notification problems.

I got my galaxy z flip 6 last friday, and I absolutely love it, and to be honest, I only chose the z flip over the razr is I prefer the look of the z flip and the software support, I don't mind the limited allowed apps due to good lock, I'm glad I chose the z flip, and I dont regret it at all
Edit: I also like the software skin of the z flip more than the razr, as I've had both a motorola bar phone and the pixel 6a, and I much prefer samsung's skin

I love my flip phone, I have no use for a large foldable and although the normal chocolate bar slab is ok again I don't really need it so the flip phone fits my use case perfectly. I had a more powerful pixel phone when I got the flip phone (applied for it on a whim and was surprised I got it) and I loved it so much the pixel was sold on. My only wish with my phone at least would be a better camera but it serves me enough for occasional pics and home food profile pics

I must admit I'm one of those people who very rarely uses the ultrawide camera and instead loves to take pics of friends, so I was very frustrated with telephotos being kept only on the more expensive and generally bigger models (shotout samsung for not making us choose) so im in the minority celebrating the switch of lense priority in some models

    • @nimoy007
      @nimoy007 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Actually, for telephoto cameras under 5x zoom, you're actually often better using the main shooter (which is higher quality) and just zooming in. This is why having telephoto cameras instead of ultrawides sucks. I encourage you to try it for yourself and see what I mean. I do like the telephoto camera on my S23 Ultra, but because it is 10x optical, it easily runs circles around digital zoom on the main shooter.

It all comes down to use case. I only upgraded from my Pixel 3 to a Pixel 6 Pro because they finally integrated a telephoto lens. I'd miss so many great moments of my kids if it weren't for the telephoto. But, if you're single and live in a city and like to take artsy shots of nearby buildings, I could see how one would prefer an ultra -wide.

Xiaomi in Eastern Europe is a genuine threat to dethrone Samsung. By the way, Huawei/Honor phones work just fine here with all the google services.
