23:15 MAJOR props to Mr. Mobile for asking the hard questions to the face of Google. I guess he remembered the performance is level of 7 gen 3 level , far from 8 gen 3 . So he quickly shifted to the design aspect
@@nakhotshot Honor and Xiaomi for exemple both offer better camera setups than googl and larger batteries with faster charging, with an even thinner design for both by 1.2mm and 1mm respectively. The reason you're seeing sacrifices made here is because Google is unwilling to do better.

as a current iphone 13 pro user (historically htc one and pixel user), having magic eraser and similar features available to google one subscribers has been so sick, super happy google expanded that feature out
Pixel 9 Pro Fold is such a weird name. It's the only foldable on the Pixel 9 family, there's no need to call it Pro, just Pixel 9 Fold would've been fine.
Yeah I would probably be more sensible if there was two foldables. Maybe one with an extra camera or something. I guess maybe they just figured the distinguishing features that it has access to the Gemini nano stuff for whatever. That said I don't hate the idea of naming it after the 9th generation. It seems a little redundant now but if there's five or six versions of this fold it would be easier to lose track For instance I could not tell you if the z-fold 4 was out with the s22 ultra or the s21 ultra. If it was called the s22 fold or something I would be able to remember it a little easier. Not that it matters to me I'm not really interested in buying a foldable anyways.
I think it’s because Google wants to leave a room for a cheaper foldable in the future. Or they want to help justify the price by adding the pro in the nomenclature .
Fun fact: In a part of my interview with Claude that I cut for time, I absolutely said that the thing should more properly have been called the "Pixel 9 Fold." 😄 He didn't really react (because it wasn't a question, and also because he's probably very well media-trained) so I didn't include it.

Also even though you were privileged to get exclusive interviews, you didnt hold back. Thank you. Keep up the amazing work. We really appreciate it.
Michael, as always, thank you for your work and the interviews and most importantly direct questions we all would ask the designers. My thought on Pixel Fold: ditch the new camera module, use the one from P9, keep the same language and visor (don't rob us from something we -- pixel users -- are proud of), don't over complicate the device, drop the price, if they did that it would be a banger foldable in my charts.
I've been using the ZFold for a couple of years now, and I'm super pumped to check out the Pixel Fold. Glad Rick confirmed that my two Google Nest Homes, two Google Nest speakers and 5 Nest Hubs will all get the much improved Gemini assistant. That's some nice support for devices that could really use some love from the company.
I just returned from a long Scandinavian tour vacation and the Pixel 8 Pro cameras were incredible. I can't see myself compromising for the Pixel foldable until its cameras can reach parity with its brethren.
Thanks for the detailed and pointed questions to the Google folks. I would order a Pixel 9 Pro Fold today but the trade-in incentives are frustrating. Google is only offering $650 for my S24 Ultra. Best Buy will give me $1199 for my S24 Ultra... if I get a 9 Pro XL, whereas it plummets to $600 if I want a 9 Pro Fold. Maddening.
That’s nuts. One plus was giving insane trade Ins. But your Best Buy numbers are off. If I read that correctly, Best Buy is giving only 600 for the S24 ultra even a 1TB model. Google is giving the superior trade in
@@TheSonyExperienceCorrect. For a Fold, Google gives $650 for an S24U trade vs Best Buys $600. What is confusing though is that for a 9 Pro XL, Google stays the same but Best Buy increases their trade value to $1099. So you can get a Pixel 9 Pro XL for $100 with trade, but a Fold is $1100 with trade.
Thank you for asking solid direct questions, this didn't feel like pandering. I REALLY appreciated the questions around making Google Home a usable product again. Your interviewing skills have developed really well over the past few years.
I'm sorry but who would prefer a slimmer phone over an actually good camera, especially when you have to pay the price of 2 phones or a flagship AND a DLSR?
Unfortunately (fortunately?) the camera *is* "actually good" and is generally on par with the output of other flagship phone cameras. At this point, the physical limitations of phones have resulted in most of the differences between devices being on the post-processing side rather than a pure result of differing hardware. At the end of the day if you want great *photos* you should buy a standalone camera. Even a 10-year-old 16MP APS-C camera produces higher fidelity files than today's best flagship phone camera. There is no way to compensate for sensor size in a body as thin as a phone - software and "AI" only go so far.
The “we had to keep the body thin” is not a good excuse anyway, they could just make the camera bump a little thicker and still have enough room for a better camera. It’s all down to profit margins and not willing to make less on their foldables than they do on their regular phones, so they cut corners, simple as that.
Agreed , and the designer dude thinks making the fold narrow makes it better? I actually liked the wide form factor of the pixel fold 1 which was in stark contrast to Samsung's ridiculous TV remote control like form factor which was why I never bought one , and to the narrow pixel 2 fold , that's a no sale for this little black duck. For anyone with biggish hands and chunky fingers trying to type on a narrow front screen is just painful.
The first guy sure was better at avoiding the questions but the second one, dude...he said that they moved the camera in the corner to increase the battery but the battery is smaller than the last fold.
well yeah, the device is thinner. So it might still have been a decision to improve battery capacity (or in other words limit the reduction in capacity, but then they are trained to put a positive spin)
I thought I’d find the interview segment boring, but the delivery of the information and the content itself was really interesting. He uses the Samsung flip, they want AI to be helpful for everyone (not just exclusive to pixel owners), etc. Team Everyone. Love to see it.
The Pixel Watch door camera thing is one of those "from the future" kind of things...VERY cool. Now give me a battery that lasts longer than a few days at best and we'll talk. lol
The hinge designs is the main thing in my mind but idk who the hell is paying 2k for a phone with a plastic screen and the same processor as the normal phone
One of the best interviews I’ve seen. Didn’t hold back in the questions and really appreciate the challenging questions. This is what large influencers should be doing interviews rather than being buddies. Well done!!
Google NOT making a flip-phone..... I just don't understand this decision. To say that it's because so many other brands makes flip-phones - it's like a car manufacturer deciding not to make their first SUV, because so many other makers already do them. If you want phones that can be closed popular, and the price clearly is so expensive for folding phones - then give us cheaper flip-phones , for Pete's sake.
I see you using your fold for talking notes. I'd love a video rundown on your day-to-day fold workflow. We get a some insight in a few of your reviews, but I'd love a deep dive into Evernote on fold, editing, and daily life use cases beyond fun photography. For me, that would help me visualize the difference between a foldable being a cute novelty with some minor usefulness at a huge markup, vs. a meaningful computer in my pocket.
I have a Samsung fold and there is definitely an "ideal" user. If you don't fall into that it's more of a gimmick but if you're in that sweet spot, there's nothing better. It's fantastic for watching videos on. I use it a lot for note taking and sketching. It's great for reading (though i prefer a kindle). It's also perfect for multitasking since you can have several windows open at once on a large screen. I also really like that it's easy to prop up and walk away for taking photos & video. I can't go back now but if you don't do any of those things it might not be worth it since they are still very expensive.
14:14 Rick confirms what I've always thought of Pixel users and that Google also clearly thinks, they're beta testers who pay to be beta testers. By the way, Mr Foldable, great jo as always 👍🏽

I genuinely cannot think of a justification to purchase a pixel fold two over the OnePlus open other than the seven years of software updates. Especially when the pixel fold two costs $500-$700 more than the oneplus.
That’s not even bringing up the fact that the OnePlus comes with a charger, charges faster, has higher quality cameras, higher resolution inner display, 4gb more memory, more storage default, a much less noticeable crease on the inner display, and (from what we can tell so far) benchmarks faster than the G4 that google JUST released

Would have been a cool opportunity for Google to support USI stylus on some of these devices. But probably a pipe dream. But with the tablet supporting it I thought maybe at least the foldable might get it but then you'd have to think about finding a case for it and the added expense and the digitizer and the thickness.
Excellent interviews! Great way of applying pressure without being aggressive. The corporate replies always get me laughing but there was some good info in there!
Damn, Michael might be in the doghouse like Mrwhosetheboss! @@rico4you Michael did another good and honest review. But if the head of Samsung went nuclear on their design team after being named and shamed by everyone for copying Apple, then it's safe to say Google’s not gonna be happy for being called out either 🤭

Man I absolutely don't trust AI ... The fact my phone wants me to allow my message to be checked by AI for errors... Ie sent to a cloud and read... Nope. 😮
The trick is that there's or there'll not be any need to send messages to the cloud. The local AI will analyze all our information on device, and only send small files containing the juicy analysis, the outcome, our profile and important, monetizable data. The MS Recall-like feature is only an example.
appreciate your deeper insights and coverage of the event even though it took a couple extra days! I’m still hoping we see a mini pixel one of these days but excited to see some movement for team Pixel!
Focus should be on "large screen" apps rather than "landscape orientation tablet" apps. Focusing on viewport size regardless of orientation makes development simpler, UX better and paves the way for a more robust Android desktop mode a la DeX with optimized app UI. Google's shift on unfolded default orientation from landscape to portrait should trigger this. Unfolding any foldable should greet you with the large screen app UI (e.g. dual pane Gmail) without needing to roate to landscape orientation.

@@kingzach74 As a channel that relies on new gadgets literally every week to exist (and as a person who's so novelty-obsessed he could never keep a phone longer than a year), I'd feel quite hypocritical leaning in to the repairability/sustainability angle.
hard disagree with the utmost respect. If companies can tout 7-year software support, hardware support is most definitely included in it. It's a valid question and should be put to these companies, especially at the prices they're charging.
A 28-minute Mr mobile video? Praise the lord
I had to sit in the driveway and watch the whole thing 😂😂😂
Sadly, half of it was Google execs dodging questions and squeezing AI into every answer.
They really jumped around that AI distrust question by saying "its like a person trust me bro" SMH...AI is not the future folks, I'm sorry
Right certainly not what's being sold as AI right now which is these generative LLM which I've been pretty embarrassing as consumer-facing products. But the frustrating part is they've led to Microsoft admitting that it's going to be a 30% in there at CO2 emissions. It's an absolute disaster. Beneficial for shareholders but not stakeholders
Sarah Connor approves this message
If I want someone to guess at the answer to a question I could just ask an actual person 😂. AI is clown world nonsense only good for taking creatives jobs.
@@michaelcorcoran8768 imagine trying to make beneficial features for your users as well instead of throwaway buzzword updates that no one will care about in 2 years smh
Unfortunately, I think AI is going to be the future, not by choice, but by force.
Most interesting part vs watching the Apple event interviews is the expansive discussion involving other brands and systems.
This is much better format than the first impressions everyone else is doing given actual reviews are not allowed yet. Keep them coming and keep the hard question
Congrats on the selection of the questions. Polite but unapologetically straight. You won a kot of credibility with this video.
23:15 MAJOR props to Mr. Mobile for asking the hard questions to the face of Google. You could tell the hardware chief didn't want to admit that they sacrificed camera quality for thinness, knowing most of us would've taken a thicker phone (with a probably bigger battery too) over having the "thinnest foldable" b.s.
Haha same in the end he agreed it's not the most advance cameras he was claiming they have compared to the pro phones. But charging 1800$.
Also in the beginning be said we wanted to make the foldable not only in terms of performance but architectural design. I guess he remembered the performance is level of 7 gen 3 level , far from 8 gen 3 . So he quickly shifted to the design aspect
Multiple folds have released with thinner bodies and have way better cameras and bigger batteries.
The obsession with thinness is so irking. It makes devices less durable, more prone to overheating, harder to repair, and perform horribly.
Smaller battery and worse camera
@@nakhotshot Honor and Xiaomi for exemple both offer better camera setups than googl and larger batteries with faster charging, with an even thinner design for both by 1.2mm and 1mm respectively.
The reason you're seeing sacrifices made here is because Google is unwilling to do better.
I want a BRICK of a phone. With the best cameras and a FRACKING SD Card Slot!
@@LordTimelord 3.5mm socket too! Oh, and some buttons too, especially a shutter one!
The 9 and 9 pro (xl) are thick lol
Michael should get a lot more credits for all of his work for youtube community.. while MKBHD only has fancy equipments.. Michael has every fundamentally.. the story telling.. the editting.. the equipment.. everything is so nicely done..
Lol that's not true in the slightest. They both cool content creators, just a bit different in their styles.
This was excellent. The interviews added so much depth to the reveal video. Other channels are covering just the specs but you killed it with the interviews!
as a current iphone 13 pro user (historically htc one and pixel user), having magic eraser and similar features available to google one subscribers has been so sick, super happy google expanded that feature out
Pixel 9 Pro Fold is such a weird name.
It seems a little redundant now but if there's five or six versions of this fold it would be easier to lose track
For instance I could not tell you if the z-fold 4 was out with the s22 ultra or the s21 ultra.
Interesting. I agree it should be a 9 Fold. I also think a lot would sacrifice thickness for the same cameras as the 9 Pro! @@TheMrMobile
Pixel Fold 2 would’ve been better
I have been following you since the PocketNow days brother!
Thank you for always staying true to yourself.
I love how you pushed back on some of those no-answer, media trained, responses from the Google team lol.
Also, I know other TH-camrs have more subs but in my mind you're one of the OG's in the game. And deserve way more than what you have. But keep grindin'!
I have to say I'm actually pleasantly surprised by both your interviews. I assumed they'd have more softball questions given the nature of the event and logistics around it. But you really pushed back and asked some harder hitting questions so kudos!
I'm really hoping this new Pixel Watch can use Facer...would be a very sad end of an era if all smartwatches got locked down from third party face providers.
EDIT: so apparently wear OS 5 has completely removed facer support. Great. Fantastic year for technology.
Yeah, Facer has a detailed statement on this. I'm so frustrated. community.facer.io/t/important-samsung-galaxy-watch7-ultra-compatibility-update/93887

It's at the point where having facer is a hard requirement for me.
Dude, in a space literally flooded with pixel coverage, and ive watched a ton. Thank you! This was one of, if not the best videos ive seen on their new products.
I love that it's got that native Android vibe and a screen big enough for me to binge-watch while the kiddos are glued to Paw Patrol on my 75" TV. Michael, every time I come back to your channel, I start to question my life decisions to watch other tech channels. Well delivered buddy. Well done!
Glad Rick confirmed that my two Google Nest Homes, two Google Nest speakers and 5 Nest Hubs will all get the much improved Gemini assistant. That's some nice support for devices that could really use some love from the company.
It's rare to see the interviewer be more articulate than the interviewee in a live setting like this. Amazing work as usual Michael
I just returned from a long Scandinavian tour vacation and the Pixel 8 Pro cameras were incredible. I can't see myself compromising for the Pixel foldable until its cameras can reach parity with its brethren.
Thanks for the detailed and pointed questions to the Google folks. I've been loyally daily driving my Galaxy Fold 4 for 2 years since trusting your review on it, so your review of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will determine whether I upgrade to the Galaxy Fold 6 or switch ecosystems to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Looking forward to the full review!
Just get a samsung at that point.
To be honest I feel those devices are truly beautiful. And I do not doubt that they're now really entering the high-end mobile market.
Thank you for asking solid direct questions, this didn't feel like pandering. I REALLY appreciated the questions around making Google Home a usable product again. Your interviewing skills have developed really well over the past few years.
It is so refreshing to see this type of content in this space. I don't even want to say "tough" questions, but rather no b.s. questions. Love it.
@@mikldude9376 the secret is to use one hand on the narrower cover. That's the best part: the one-handability.
Appreciate you asking the questions people want answering.
Now give me a battery that lasts longer than a few days at best and we'll talk. lol
FYI this has been a capability of the Apple Watch for years now. So not so “from the future” anymore.
@@gfyGoogle Apple doesn't matter as I'm not giving them a dime no matter what.
My co worker actually wanted the pixel fold last year. He had/still has a note 10. As soon as he heard the cost, he kept his note to this day.
back when samsung made the first foldable and everyone said they will come down in price... it was so obvious that that was just wishful thinking.
If you want phones that can be closed popular, and the price clearly is so expensive for folding phones - then give us cheaper flip-phones , for Pete's sake.
second guy is a true manager, no single direct reply to a question😃
Absolutely cracking questions, Michael! Hats off 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hey Sam, when are you covering your pixel 9 impression. Waiting for your videos.
14:14 Rick confirms what I've always thought of Pixel users and that Google also clearly thinks, they're beta testers who pay to be beta testers.
By the way, Mr Foldable, great jo as always 👍🏽
Yup
I have to say, your interviewing skills have gotten tremendously better since last year. Asked every question I personally had, as well as some I didn't even realize I had. Absolutely brilliant!
Not having Real pro cameras on the Fold is a no no 👎🏻
You did good asking the hard questions, Michael. As a long time android user and fold user, I always trust your opinion on these things.
Been waiting for your video on this 🙌
I find you absolutely know your way through foldables ✨
Love the no bullshit pushing in interviews and still keeping it professional, well done Michael 👏
Probably get really hot and poor battery life I used to be a pixel user 😢 now one plus and have no issues 😊
If you live in the US, you aren’t buying a one plus.

Video was worth the wait. You asked actual questions unlike MKBHD with his sucking up to Apple in these style of videos.
Agreed 💯
That guy got in the game early that's all... There are lot better reviewers nowadays who does it better and goes indepth and makes entertaining videos ...having a 50k camera doesn't mean crap .
I love how direct Michael is with his questions.
Which features require Gemini advanced and Fitbit subscriptions? (After the 1 year round out on the pros or if you buy not-pro)?
Well done on asking real questions. And calling issues out.
I skipped a lot of the interviews after their first answers. At a corporate event, I wouldn't expect a corporate person to say anything else but corporate speak.
A bunch of the interview just seems to be talking about AI. Pretty much a waste of time
What a great interview, by both. Thanks a lot!
Did you see the look on Google's design director Claude Zellweger's face when Michael mentioned the new Pixel 9 series now looks like Apple's iPhone, and when he said Samsung just got called out for also ripping off, sorry, borrowing from Apple 🤭
Michael has way more class n style than Mrwhosetheboss. Who I feel thinks his "show" us above reviews. Google showed him who is the Real Boss!
@@rico4you Michael did another good and honest review. But if the head of Samsung went nuclear on their design team after being named and shamed by everyone for copying Apple, then it's safe to say Google’s not gonna be happy for being called out either 🤭

The Google top dogs probably laughed so damn hard when samsung released the fold 6, Google literally did everything consumers where asking for from Samsung, Better cameras, better form factor for outer screen, 8 inch inner screen when unfolded, if samsung doesn't up there game with the fold 7, they will be left behind

I was very disappointed to hear that the oneplus open 2 release date was postponed to early 2025
Oneplus anyday. Much better battery life and performance. And a great display as well.
I have to say Mr Mobile. I watch a lot of tech reviewers and you are without a doubt the best.
The presentation is flawless, you're on point with your products every time, and with making a point, there is always plenty of meat on the bone.
It's always exciting seeing a new video of yours pop up.
Outstanding.
Yawn
What a great interview with Osterloh. All good questions and definitely wasn't a softball interview!
WOW! I love how Rick answers the questions without beating around the bush. It was an awesome interview with great questions.
appreciate your deeper insights and coverage of the event even though it took a couple extra days!
Some great interviews! Your questions were tough but asked in a very fair way. You couldn't force them to answer how we all wish and definitely some deflection on your questions but really wonderful to hear you pick their brains!!! Thank you, always been a fan of your videos :D
They need an ULTRA pixel .. no tensor and ba ..max performance specs people will move to Google..they are just not good enough..
