This was very helpful, thanks! If you partnered with headway and chose to use their billing tool for an ehr to start and then migrated to a simple practice later, would you need to depanel with headway and get credentialed on your own before moving your client data there? Or can you still be credentialed with headway and then transition everything over to simple practice once that’s going?
I am glad it was helpful. You certainly migrate all client data to SP without needing to depanel. You would continue to bill through Headway though if you were paneled with them
Sometimes they will handle it, but ultimately I think they leave it in the hands of the therapist. Yes, they do have an EHR, albeit its not that great.
Hi Matt. Thank you for this video and your helpful articulations. Since you have worked with both ALMA and Headway, would you be able to provide any information about which you prefer overall? Or what the advantages and drawbacks are of each? Thank you!
Hi Kristy, To be honest they have different strengths and weaknesses. I find ALMA is a better overall platform however lacks the ability to manage a group practice. I only use Headway for group practice management. If I was just a solo provider, I would probably stick with ALMA only
Thats right. If someone late cancels or no shows, you are responsible for collecting that. It's quite simple to charge the late fee as you would with any other platform, but you have the control about whether or not you charge a fee. It will not be done for you automatically. Hope this info helps.
As a Group Practice Owner do you use one of these platforms? Headway doesn't accept some Insurances. Is it good to be both independent and use the platforms to increase the type of Insurance you can accept?
Just tried to sign up with Alma but they have made a change in June 2023 which does not allow Group practices to join. What would you suggest as an alternative for the credentialing part and ins claims submitting.
@ including EHR? When I was an intern I used it in a practice and it seemed to be excellent for everything but I was not responsible for everything either. Any thoughts?
You mentioned getting credentialed by yourself after working with Alma. So, can you work on getting credentialed by yourself "outside" of Alma while working with Alma?
Can you be OON and utilize Alma and Headway for private pay? Word on the street in my area is you don’t have to take insurance to utilize their platform to gain private pay clients. My thoughts were that they may be referring to an offering like Mentaya for superbill options. Can you speak to this?
Hi there. The way I understand the platforms like ALMA and Headway are that they are a set of tools you can use for your practice. Some people use the insurance tool while others do not. I do think some clinicians use ALMA simply for the directory and keep clients as self pay.
Alma's monthly membership is pretty significant compared to Headway. I am already happily utilizing Simple Practice and am only looking for support w/ credentialing, billing and referrals. Curious if you think in this case Alma is still worth the price? Thanks for your helpful info.
Hey Kelly. It will really depend on one factor and that is how many referrals you get per month from ALMA and compare the revenue generate to the cost per month. Even if you get one referral per month and they are seen 3-4 times, you have profited off the cost of ALMA significantly. I hope this makes sense
Headway: client has to put card; Alma: suggests client puts card but if client doesn’t then you are responsible to make sure they pay copays/deductibles other Alma will eventually take it out from your pay.
@@matthewryanLCSW So Simple practice serves as a EHR only? do you register folks there and document? do you provide the documentation to headway/alma for billing purposes?
@@EsmeraldaWellnessHavenLLC So I pretty much do everything there. I document and schedule there. The only thing I do on ALMA and Headway is submit claims.
Its not so much about ALMA and Headway, but more so about your licensing boards telehealth rules and the laws around where a clinician needs to be and where a client needs to be.
Just signed on with headway. This was very great information. I will definitely be getting a fully built out EHR after this.
Awesome. So glad you found it helpful
I’m getting back into private practice after over a year being off from working in mental health and this is very informative, thank you!
Amazing. I am glad you found it helpful
I asked about headway on a previous video; this answered it, thank you!
Fantastic!
Incredibly helpful! Thanks for this!
I am so glad it was!
Always supporting! Keep up the good work!
Thank you

Who takes c are of claim rejection & resubmission . I think now headway has EHR

How does it work when a client late cancels or no-shows? I'm reading on their website that therapists would be responsible for collecting that

This is why people should have their own EHR

I use Headway for my group. Check out this video. th-cam.com/video/b3b5DGptXYE/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUaaGVhZHdheSBmb3IgZ3JvdXAgcHJhY3RpY2U%3D

Hi Rebecca,
You can either go with Headway or you can be credentialed on your own and learn how to submit claims through your EHR.
What about simple practice for solo practitioner?
Works great!
@ including EHR? When I was an intern I used it in a practice and it seemed to be excellent for everything but I was not responsible for everything either. Any thoughts?
@rhythmofheaven1489 It will work really well for a solo practice, providing everything you need.
You mentioned getting credentialed by yourself after working with Alma. So, can you work on getting credentialed by yourself "outside" of Alma while working with Alma?
Yep you can.
Any tips or do you have any videos on getting credentialed independently while working for Headway?
Are you able to share what EHR you are using?
I currently use SimplePractice
Does grow have a treatment plan platform?
I have never used grow, so I am not too sure.

Does Alma allow group practices?
No it does not
@@matthewryanLCSW ok good to know cause there are indeed some clinicians in NYC where I live that are doing this still with Alma so I’m so confused!
Headway: client has to put card; Alma: suggests client puts card but if client doesn’t then you are responsible to make sure they pay copays/deductibles other Alma will eventually take it out from your pay.
Super helpful additions. Thank you.
Can you Keep your clients of leave Alma or Headway?
Yes you can. They are your clients. ALMA and Headway are just tools to help you build your practice
How did you get credentialed on your own?
I used a credentialing company
@@matthewryanLCSW do you mind sharing which one? :)
@@mariaangelarodriguez5105 I used a company called Greenpoint Med. I believe they go by SimiMed now: greenpointmed.com/

So Alma or Headway don't have their own EHR?
I don't do TX plans in my private practice. I would if I had a group practice.
Thanks for sharing what you do.
Can you work remotely anywhere in the world with Alma and headway? Ie live in Canada.
