Virtual telemarketing is the best way to get more referrals. We started virtual telemarketing six months before and from six we are getting more than 10 referral each month and it will only cost us $500 a month.

Psychology today as been great for referrals. Zoc Doc and Alma have been meh. But I’ve only been in practice about a month and a half.

I'm thinking of breaking away to do private practice. Concerned about the time it'll take me to ramp up to at least 20 patients weekly. Also trying to figure out who's the best platform to start with overall considering the above. What would you suggest? BTW, I'm licensed in Texas & Illinois. Thx.

Thanks so much for this! I have appreciated all the content that you have posted! I love this idea and finally found some time in my schedule to get started on it. I use SimplePractice, so I can’t speak to other platforms, but here’s what I did: You can export the Yearly Payment Report from SimplePractice to Excel, then create a PivotTable with Client in the rows. Add Appointment Date (Count) in the Values section to get the total number of appointments per client. You can also include Amount Paid (Sum) to calculate the total amount paid for both insurance and copays for each appointment. From there, you can manually calculate the average by dividing the total amount paid by the number of appointments to get the average payment per session per client. At the bottom of the PivotTable, you’ll find the total number of sessions, which can be divided by the number of clients in the spreadsheet to determine the average number of sessions per client, as well as the average amount paid per session. Thanks to ChatGPT, I was also able to fix a formula to extract client initials automatically, rather than doing it manually. The formula I used extracts the first letter of both the first and last name to generate initials, which helps increase privacy before saving the file. Or, I did it all wrong and wasted a few hours-who knows!

Did I miss something? You mentioned nothing about what kind of cable you need or if it would work with HDMI or DP or VGA? I have a PC and I was expecting the video to at least mention whether it was compatible or if there’s a certain cable I need or if it’s done wirelessly?

Thank you for the analysis. I had used both Alma and Headway. I ended up resigning from both. Overall, Headway was more user friendly with faster payout, but ultimately, Alma's CEO seems conscientious and on the side of the members (therapists). Headway kept credentialing me with new panels without giving me much time to opt out, and left it entirely to me to de-panel myself. When I asked Headway why it kept doing this, the support person didn't even try to pretend. The answer was: we want insurance companies to see that we can get them a lot of providers, and that's why we don't let you opt out. On paper, it looks like Headway can panel a lot of providers, who will never accept clients with that insurance. So Headway is just another phantom network. Way to solve accessibility, Headway!

I signed up with Alma under the mistaken belief that Alma could negotiate better rates with insurance. In November 2024, Alma announced that Optum (AKA United Health) is REDUCING rates for the most common CPT codes by about 10%. I had made business decisions based on expected earnings, and Alma cannot guarantee those earnings. I informed my Optum clients that I will not continue to bill in network, and I resigned from Alma, asking Alma to refund my membership ($900-$1300 a year)

Ohh thank you for this! I do have a question regarding being licensed in multiple states. I am also a NYS LCSW, and I just established my PLLC last year. I remember seeing in the paperwork that a NYS PLLC can not have any relationship with an out of state practice. Is your PLLC filed in NYS or NJ? I was just curious how this all plays out! My other question was, if I were to bring an LMSW on only as an independent contractor (1099), would I be able to do that with Headway? I was thinking you were discussing bringing a licensed professional on board and that that means LCSW (so they could technically get paneled on their own), but if they needed to be brought on as a 1099, because they have to go through us as their supervisor, what happens then? This is a great breakdown. I never even considered breaking down these numbers. I definitely want to give this a try. My only question is about the time frame. PT is $30/month...so when comparing it to the client value, is the client value $89/mo or just overall? If it's overall, how can it be compared to a monthly cost when the yearly cost for PT would be much more than $30? Somehow I'm not getting that. But I'm also not a mathematician for a reason lol.

I also create templates, ideas, and worksheets with info to explain topics and start to explain modalities, but I also look at the sources and check the information. Alma's monthly membership is pretty significant compared to Headway. I am already happily utilizing Simple Practice and am only looking for support w/ credentialing, billing and referrals. Curious if you think in this case Alma is still worth the price? Thanks for your helpful info.
