  • This TAS is maded by kaan, this movie includes the rings in especial stages, so this would be considered a 100% completionist run.

    SY3 is a masterpiece. What a run. Can't wait to finish my 3K atlas encoder so I can work on S1.

      Why thank you. SY3 was a lot of fun to tas.
      Making an atlas for S1 shouldn't be too hard. At least in comparison. You might as well make one for S2 too. That ring attack will get made at some point in the future.

    I'm congenitally blind and a forever Sonic 2D lover.
    Did that seriously just happen at

    I didn't think you could be rejected from a special zone but I can see why.
    The Genesis couldn't take that late transfer to the special because the second act had to start.
    Hence you just lost your first chance for a Chaos emerald. Kinda ouch?

      I mean, that's not much of a lose. There is 10 chances to get emerald, and he will collect all the rings either way

    This can be really useful when doing the ring chain challenge on Sega Ages Sonic 1.

      Never heard of Sega Ages before. What do you do in the Ring Chain challenge?

      @@kaan5585 I have Sonic 1 on the Switch, where it has some challenges and additional features like the drop dash. What I do is do the special stage first, collect 5 of the 6 emeralds and keep doing the 4th one by collecting as much rings as possible, and the same goes for all levels. I'm currently 3rd, but messed up on Scrap Brain Act 1 with about 46xx total rings, or was it 43xx. Can't remember. Basically, don't get it.

    Evil 3D, Kaan, have you guys ever considered doing a "Glitchfest" for Sonic 1, 2, 3, S&K / 3&K? As in activating debug mode and messing up the game as much as possible on the way to completing it?

      I'm mainly asking because you can achieve some pretty crazy stuff with debug mode, especially in Sonic 3.

      @@ShiningProdigyTAS "Debug mode" is a built in feature in the game. It's not like a gameshark or action replay is being used to actually cheat the game.
      UMK3 has TAS's that feature the in game cheats / debug options, and no one compains about that.

    The slope glitch existed all the way back in Sonic 1? LOL

      It's a consequence of how the object system works; if you're standing on an object, it sets a flag to disable your gravity. If you manage to destroy the object with that bit set, the object won't clean the bit up, and you will end up with standing on nothing. This is also why standing on another object resets this behaviour.

      Oh yeah it did. It was found in Scrap Brain 3 quite a while ago by I believe TeeNTee. I myself found it in 3 more levels. Spring Yard 3 and the other 2 acts of Scrap Brain. Some objects in the game only stay loaded if their center pixel is on screen.

    Why are you going for the rings in the bonus stages for this game but opted not to in sonic 2 and 3?

      It's for a few reasons really. The special stages in Sonic 1 don't present the same problems they do in Sonic 3 and especially 2. Unlike in it's sequels there's no Super Sonic transformation (and by extention the ring drain). The special stages don't disrupt the flow of the main levels as you get to them at the end of every Act 1 and 2 (except Scrap Brain). Plus I think the special stages in Sonic 1 are actually pretty interesting. Also this gives me an excuse to collect all the emeralds :p
      In Sonic 2 the special stages would've caused a number of problems. When you go in and out of them your ring count and I believe the rings in the level itself resets. On top of that avoiding Super Sonic's transformation in Sonic 2 is close to impossible since the game forces Sonic to transform when he jumps. Also the special stages in this game are basically autoscrollers.
      In S3K I guess we could've gone for them in the Sonic and Tails run. Objectively they probably wouldn't have caused any issues but they would've disrupted the flow of the main levels. On top of that the run is already pretty long. Also the special stages themselves get pretty boring after you've seen them a few times.

      ​@@kaan5585 Ok I get your reasoning for Sonic 2 now, the jumping point especially presents a disadvantage for integrating them. Another point you could add for S3K is that doing it NG+ gave you guys 50 extra in-level rings instead of bonus stages, and maxing out the in-level rings collected was really the main goal of the run. I really like seeing the bonus stages being played here because none of the runs on TASVideos have so far.

      @@Winslinator Oh yeah maxing out the ring counts were also a reason we didn't do the special stages in Sonic 3.
      As for a ring attack TAS for the Sonic 2 special stages. I saw one for the first one but I forgot where. Other than that there aren't any I know of. I may make a seperate movie for it myself.
