Sonic the Hedgehog, also referred to simply as Sonic 1, is a platform game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis console. The game was first released in North America in June 1991, and in PAL regions and Japan the following month. The game features an anthropomorphic hedgehog named Sonic in a quest to defeat Doctor Robotnik, a scientist who has imprisoned animals in robots and stolen the magical Chaos Emeralds. Sonic the Hedgehog's gameplay involves collecting rings as a form of health and a simple control scheme, with jumping and attacking controlled by a single button.
The game's development began in 1990 when Sega ordered its in-house development team to create a game featuring a mascot for the company. After considering a number of suggestions, the developers decided on a blue hedgehog with spikes along his head and spine and named themselves "Sonic Team" to match their character. Sonic the Hedgehog, designed for fast gameplay, was influenced by the games of Super Mario series creator, Shigeru Miyamoto. Sonic the Hedgehog uses a novel technique that allows Sonic's sprite to roll along curved scenery, which originated in a tech demo created by the game's programmer, Yuji Naka.
Sonic the Hedgehog was well received by critics, later being considered one of the greatest video games of all time, with praise given to its visuals, audio, and gameplay. It was also commercially successful, establishing the Genesis as a key player in the 16-bit era and allowing it to compete with Nintendo and their Super Nintendo Entertainment System console. The game has been ported a number of times, and inspired several clones, a successful franchise, and adaptations into other media. - เกม

This run really made me realise how extensive of a level Starlight zone is considering how quickly I and most players just speed through it compared to the other levels past Green Hill. And you really mastered that entire zone

Hey folks. As I am fond of pointing out whenever we get a 4:3 game stretched to 16:9, there's a TH-cam plugin for Chrome that lets one adjust TH-cam's aspect ratio: _TH-cam Aspect Ratio Control._ Adds an extra control function next to the CC and Settings. Picking "75% H" will put this video at its correct aspect ratio. Enjoy.

Very impressive. The way you moved around Starlight Zone was simply art, and the precision with which you tackled Scrap Brain was impressive. I didn't think it was possible, and admittedly a few glitches where needed, but hats off to you my friend.

It's interesting that Sonic 2 gives you perfect score when collecting all rings, though it's impossible for all zones. Should been thing in this one instead. Also, next challenge: Highest possible score in Sonic 1

This is how to play 2D Sonic, I used to do this when I was a kid, but I definitely missed a few.

I remember allways trying to collect all of the chaos emeralds but never being able to … thank you for this. But I thought collecting all the chaos emeralds led to some alternative ending a rumored golden sonic… 😂 I guess there was no difference

@@enderslayer0845 Chemical Plant is possible. Casino night, Aquatic ruin and Metropolis is impossible because there are hidden rings inside the layouts.
Ok, why is it that when you get a 1-UP in the Special Stages, after the fanfare ends, The Music is glitched and one of the channels is missing?

Yay I've been on a big sonic binge lately trying to get a broader palate/ appreciate series I never thought high of (outside very limited personal experience prior) and have been dying to see something like this I think this is the first I've seen of it's ilk/concept! I wish 3d or ngpc had some takers willing to grind but this is so much better than nothing! Perfect timing too for dinner watching especially nice surprise because I have been extremely depressed especially lately.
Anywho thanks I just paused like minute in because wanted to say thank you for your efforts before forgot or fell asleep

Very impressive, but you took the long way round to collect the last 10 rings on Act 2 of the green hill zone, could have shaved 10 seconds off. :) But then I only try and get all the rings on that one

The reason why I didn't collect those was because the wall to the right would have dropped down, preventing me from going right. There might be a way to bypass it, I'm not sure
