Xiaomi M365 500W motor part 2: Pushing 2.1KW with Phaserunner V3

  • DISCLAIMER: All the speeds that you see in this video are not real, it is only a marketing trick for entertaining. I drive only at legal 20km/h.
    Finally, I have made the 500W motor work on my M365. Not only it works, it actually made my scooter very fast! I would say too fast... As all the parts are mounted "temporarily" I still have a lot of work to do to make the solutions permanent.
    At least now I enjoy really decent brakes and with an aftermarket controller, I am not afraid to use the regen brakes anymore :)

    I am using additional 10s2p in parallel and 4s6p in series (18650 cells) with Monorim motor at the front wheel. Using stock controller at 510w (27/55A CFW). Acceleration is identical to yours. Top speed is more than 48km/h when battery is above 55%. (Vmax 53km/h with full batteries).
    There are no wobbles, i assume this is because of FWD. Using a solid 10x2.5 tyre at the back with the cheapest suspension on both axles.
    Looking forward a double motor setup at 72v! Good luck and stay safe!

    to get a "dual motor" feeling you'd atleast want a peak of 150 phase amps but idk how much those motors would like that first of all, and secondly idk if the magnets themselves are strong enough to deal with that current
    those big power scooters which have only 28A (battery side current) controllers for example peak already well over 100A in each motor at low speeds, hence why they're often so jerky
    the phaserunner can go up to 90A phase or something like that so i'd recommend to try that

    • @VRMinde
      @VRMinde  ปีที่แล้ว

      Phaserunner is ok, but only to play around as the setup becomes economically not viable :)

      @@VRMinde yea i'd say those Flipsky/Makerbase Alu PCB VESC's are a good option for someone who wants a bit more oomph for not too much of a price, have a pair of them 75100 Alu PCB's in my dual motor scooter with 120 phase amps peak each and they do just fine
      i have a pair of 75200 Alu PCB's ready because they would suit these motors better, but just 50A is not quite much, afaik the Ninebot Max G30 peaks at like 60A out of the box in a similar motor to that, which is why i mentioned 90A being probably a happy medium if you monitor the temperature

    Is it really a m365 after changing the esc? With little mods the original ESC is 20S capable and can go 60km/h+. It's an excellent little thing for it''s size and price (goes as low as 20$ from china atm, how do they do it? 0o). Also I don't get people putting something like a VESC in a scooter this size.
    Sorry for the rant, scooter looks awesome. Wish we could encounter each other on some random road and have a drag race

      I don’t know mate, what else should I call it then? Phaserunner 365? 😅
      I am too dumb on electronics probably. I have burnt way too many stock controllers, even with 12s pack and new cooling pastes etc., mine runs at 78 degrees after 20-30sec sprint and the temperature keeps going up 🙄
      I have some that simply won’t work and I can’t find the defect - MOSFETs are fine, fuse is ok, something else is burnt and I can’t find what it is. All of that lead me to too much frustration with those stock ESCs…

    How does your motor not overheat at 2.5kW? I weigh a little over 70kg, and have an electrically stock m365 pro with stock tires. I use custom firmware that is limited to approx 850W, and use the ECO mode (the current in eco-mode is clearly less than in all other mods) that is limited to approx real 20kmph (usually it shows about 22-23 on the display). After riding the scooter for say 10km the motor is already hot to the touch at 30C ambient temperature.

    Hi! Thank you very much for your instructive videos, I like them. I am interested in buying the Xiaomi Essential, which is the basic one but then to upgrade with the 500W Monorim Motor + V48 14.4 Battery, and then I'll add some stuff to make it drivable under the rain. My question is, do you think it worth it with this model of Xiaomi Scooter or should I buy the M365, I guess that the most basic and cheaper one is good as long you upgrade it, as the others brands cannot be upgraded as long you don't have someone to design your battery to fit in the scooter. My questions are, do you think it worth it to buy the Essential and upgrade it with the stuff I mentionned, and also do you think these stuff are great or there's better things? I don't want to spend more than 500-600€ and for everything it already cost about 495€. Also, do I need to buy a new heat controller? I really don't know about that so if you have any recommendations I would be glad to know! Thank you very much for your time!

    • @VRMinde
      @VRMinde  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi mate, thanks for the kind words. I believe you will end up spending more this way than saving for ready-made upgraded solution. You will get the smaller battery by 1/3 in essential that will be useless for you, but money aready spent. And if you do not understand a lot in mechanics and electronics - expect that projects like that take much longer than you would expect and you do (expensive) mistakes on the way. If you want a fast scooter with 2wd and double suspension - buy a built solution and you will have so much less headache :)

It's anyhow 25km/h limited speed and I don't need more than 30km. I wish you the best and thank you again for your kind answer!

      To make it 50km/h it is not worth it practically or financially because you need at least 14s battery pack + new controller and possibly a new motor as the stock one will get very hot. It is cheaper to buy another scooter capable of 50km/h + with suspension etc.

    • @VRMinde
      @VRMinde  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, BMS should be in your hailong pack already.
      To use 48v pack you can still use the stock controller. What you need to do is to change some parameters in the controller firmware: turn of the regen braking (or the controller will burn in no time), set battery voltage limit to 58.8v, remove “charging mode”. That should do.

    • @VRMinde
      @VRMinde  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I have never tried the flipsky controllers yet so it is hard to comment.
      They have double ones though 🙄 two motors feel way more fun, but then I would also consider pro chasis as only then you could fit rear and front disc brakes.
      But then again the overall price gets so crazy that it is cheaper to get something like cyberbot mini (1k USD) with a large battery, better suspension, 2x500w motors and much better tires, wider steering, etc etc. :) It is a constant thought struggle in this hobby.

      @@VRMinde Yeah, i do believe the flipsky 6.6 mini is compatible for dual motors, but there's very conflicting info, some say that they are 13s compatible, and others say only upto 12s! So i am really not sure what option to use?🙄 Not that i need the dual motor option anyway, as 45-50kmh is plenty enough for me, and they are waaay too expensive! Also, i have seen an upgraded official m365 controller that will accept upto 19s!! batteries available for sale from here: vtaescooter.co.uk/shop/ols/products/upgraded-controller
      So i may just go for the 13s-15s option! Not to sure if i need to upgrade my internal battery to a higher mah or not?? Thoughts please. Just curious to know, are you sure that only the pro chassis are compatible with dual brakes? I thought both classic and pro chassis were compatible?🤔 Is a rear motor better than a front motor? What are your thought on both these please? So my quest for a stable controller that will last, unfortunately still continues!😫 lastly, i have a few official monorim new 2021 version stems/poles (the laser engraved ones) and official monorim 500w motors (with better 10" tyres on) for sale if your interested? Pm me if you are please.🛴😊✌

      @@fleebleflam stock controller even if upgraded - I do not trust them. They overheat and burn. I know v3 is better, still don’t trust them :)
      Higer mah or not depends just on your needs for riding range. Also if you go for high amperage battery it makes sense to have more cells in parallel as then you can spread the current accross more connections if that makes sense. Think like this: more cells in series = more max speed. More cells in parallel = more km :)
      I am not 100% sure if a motor with a disc brake fits in the stock m365 or not. I have not tried it yet. When I was buying the rear Konyk suspension the seller told me that I will only fit the disc there on a pro model and not on m365.
      I like RWD more because I believe it gives way better control, less vibrations on the handlebars, better weight distribution and easier drops from curbs, etc. But nothing beats the acceleration of two motors. Feels like a completely different scooter with two motors :)

    • @VRMinde
      @VRMinde  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      P=U*I (P - power output in watts, U - voltage in volts, I - current in amps).
      If your mentioned “72V” is a 20s pack, then fully charged it will be 84V.
      Depends on what controller are you using? Also how much power are you planning to send to the motor? On 2.1kw it is starting to get warm after 30sec sprint, but probably it could (????) survive short accels on 2.5kw?
      So, on a fully charged 20s pack 2kw will be 23.8A, 2.5kw - 29.8A. I would be really careful going for more as the motor will be heating up A LOT. And if it is a stock controller - I hope it won’t burn for you longer than all of mine did at lower watt output :)
