Kudos to you. I've watched many lvp videos and read the instructions on the package and NONE of them mention the part about measuring wall to wall first and dividing by the width of the plank. I would have ended up 1/4" short at the end of my room.
Best guide ever!!! I have been watching many other videos where details are missed or over explained but your video is practical, well organized and perfectly paced. Thank you!!! Can't wait to keep watching past and future videos in your channel!
Great video! I recently installed LVP in my basement and faced some challenges with leveling the concrete. I used a patching compound to fill low spots, which worked well. The underlayment choice is crucial; I used a moisture barrier too. My LVP has a 12 mil wear layer, and I noticed a difference in durability compared to the 20 mil you mentioned. It’s good to see how tough your flooring is during weight tests. I dropped a 50 lb plate on mine, and it held up fine! Thanks for the tips on cutting around angled walls; I struggled with that too!
Great video! Worth noting that Lifeproof LVP will not warranty your flooring if you install any underlayment except for the single option they identify on their website, so anyone buying this should check to make sure they get the right one, or just skip it.(sorry if you mentioned that and i missed it). It comes with underlayment pre-applied on the underside of the panels. A 6mil moisture barrier should be fine, but i have seen people concerned about moisture being trapped if you do that. I'm doing my basement soon so I've been trying to get as much info as i can.
In older homes a lot of basement floors are angled slightly intentionally, so that water flows towards the drain. So in those cases, you might want to not level it out.
I've been scouring youtube for videos and for whatever reason, I could not understand them. When I saw your Adidas sandals, I looked down at my feet and saw I was wearing the same ones with the same paint and dirt marring them, I realized why this video finally clicked with me lol.
I'm about to lay Lifeproof LVP over a basement concrete floor. Can or should I do a 6mm plastic under the foam underlayment then the flooring. I had someone at a big box store say I don't need the underlayment because it's already on the plank. I'd like the extra padding and warmth if I could use it. What do you think?
Technically you don't "need" it, but I would still recommend it. Besides getting extra cushion and warmth as you mentioned, you will get additional moisture protection. I would reach out to Lifeproof and see if they have any underlayment recommendations for use with their product.
I boxed them in using some 1x8 lumber. I will actually be posting a video showing the full process, but it will probably be a couple of months at least.
Its 5 millimeters thick. When I installed it in my kitchen, I actually did it just to the front of the dishwasher, which is another option. I have that footage in my other LVP video.
The LVP is actually water tight, so water shouldn't get below the surface unless there is a severe flood. In that case, it would be bad no matter what flooring you have.
@@buildsbymaz Water gets through the click connections on LVP. I know. It's has happened to us twice from the washing machine. I have no plastic barrier and no mold. It's a tear out if using plastic.
I just had to rip out my 3 year old LVP, because it started raising every where because of moisture from the concrete. I'm so bummed. I guess when I reinstall I'll put this moisture barrier. It should help.
@@vram Sorry to hear that. The moisture barrier is absolutely necessary when installing over concrete and it should definitely help with your new floor.
@@buildsbymaz So that means the floor will be shifted if a strong enough force is slide back and forth on the surface? I'm trying to install my own LVP, and I'm confused here. Thanks though
@@troi_dat_oi_nguyen189 No, every piece is connected together on the sides, so the whole floor becomes one piece. It is too heavy and there is too much friction for the whole floor to shift around, if that is what you are concerned about.

It's an important step! Glad you were able to avoid that happening to you.
Awesome, it looks great and professional. I love the wooden posts as well. Thank you for sharing
Thanks so much.
The best installation video I've watched. Great advice on placement of seams.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed.

You're very welcome and thank you for the support!
Phenomenal video. You absolutely clarified several things for me that were left out of a lot of the videos that I have watched. Great job!
Thank you! Glad I could help.
Great video. You definitely schooled me up on a few things for doing my own basement next month
Thanks for watching - best of luck with finishing your basement.
Best video ive ever watch, great explanations and straight to the point, you got a new subscriber!
Thanks for your support!

Thanks for mentioning that. That's unfortunate about Lifeproof as that really limits your options.
The best guide ever, very helpful and informative and riche of details….great work 5 stars👍
Thank you!
What a phenomenal transformation!!
EXCELLENT Video. I WILL be doing THIS.
Good luck with your project!
Always such good instructions! You make this seem like a doable project! The basement looks awesome! 🎉
Great video. Nice work.
Thank you.
Awesome video! What are those decorative wood covers you used on the floor jacks!? They make everything look seamless!
Thanks! I actually built those. I'll have a video on them sometime in the future
Great tip on breaking up the stair step pattern!
Amazing! Less than $3/sqft is a steal! Time to transform my basement 😎
Beautiful flooring, great instructions , and a handsome room!
Very helpful video!
Great video. Did you remove the spacers against the wall after everything was completed?
Yes! That is very important to do, otherwise the floor won't be able to expand.
In older homes a lot of basement floors are angled slightly intentionally, so that water flows towards the drain. So in those cases, you might want to not level it out.
Very true! The leveling compound is really just meant for small uneven dips in the subfloor

Hahaha, the Adidas sandals for the win! Im pretty sure they make an appearance in every one of my videos.
I wish I had a son as strong and handy as you. God bless 🦅🇺🇸
Great job on the video man instructions were on point
Thank you!

This is exactly what I need to do. Great tips!
My Bowflex is easier to move than that 45 lb weight.
Best of luck!
Great video
Thank you!
Did you have any issues with seams cracking or opening due to deflection of the foam underlayment ..?
Does foam underpayment plus LVP(with already attached underpayment) end up being too much potentially compromising the joints?
Nope! As long as the underlayment isn't super squishy you shouldn't have any issues.
Did you redo the baseboards as well?
There weren't any baseboards to begin with, so I did add them after the flooring was finished.
Well done, bro
Thank you sir!
Looks good.
Thank you!
Excellent video. I noticed your support pillars at the end of the video, how did you covered them up?
I boxed them in using some 1x8 lumber. I will actually be posting a video showing the full process, but it will probably be a couple of months at least.
@@buildsbymaz Thank you.
Is this underlayment approved for LVP ? Accordindg to the specs it is approved Laminate flooring & engineered wood flooring.
It's worked great for me!
@@buildsbymaz is it moving under your feets ? Thank you for your video and answers
@@Sallaire Not at all. I'm really happy with it.

Nice work also..
Planning to go with LVP but wondering if I need to raise my base cabinets to accommodate for dishwasher. How thick is it installed? Thx.
Its 5 millimeters thick. When I installed it in my kitchen, I actually did it just to the front of the dishwasher, which is another option. I have that footage in my other LVP video.
So what do you do when water floods the basement and gets trapped between the plastic barrier and bottom of planks? Not good scenario.
The LVP is actually water tight, so water shouldn't get below the surface unless there is a severe flood. In that case, it would be bad no matter what flooring you have.

Perfect place to lift heavy!
No needs to glue the LVP down?

I think polished concrete and rubber gym mats would have been nice.
But way too cold on the feet for a Colorado basement!
Im convinced no one knows what perpendicular is
