Excellent car with all the right options. I will say the 70 SS full guage cluster has to be one of the best looking ever built. Thanks for what you do Patrick
Patrick, just saw a new option I never heard of, how often do you run into rear shoulder seat belts on a 70 chevelle / I have owned 4- 70’s never seen that before !
Back in 1977 I bought a 1970 SS Chevelle 396 (402) for $800 with 70,000 original miles. It was red with white vinal top, white interior, and white skunk stripes. I took the 396/402 out of it, and got an early 70's large oval port 454 for it out of a 1-ton truck in the junk yard. I built that oval port 454 up to do 11.90's in the quarter mile.
I have a 70LS5 my dad bought in 1979 for 300 bucks it's been in the pole barn since 1987 now I'm doing a restoration lot's of pictures since the day I started
As a '68 through '72 SS Chevelle and Elcamino enthusiast, as well as the 1971-1972 GMC Sprint and SP, I would sincerely like to thank you Patrick for taking the time to share your plethora of knowledge and time with us. Looking forward to the next video 😎
I towed this car home for my brother from Naselle Washington in spring of 1981. I removed the build sheet from under the left rear interior trim panel. I SWEAR that build sheet said it was a 4:10 posi car. We had a little argument about this a few months ago. I can't prove it because that build sheet got inadvertently thrown away. You'd laugh if you knew how many kittens were born in this car! Also, I don't think it's been driven since about '77 or '78 because that's about when my brother first saw it for sale. Could that be the original mileage? I believe, when I picked it up, the seller said he bought it in Astoria.
@@raymondboczek When I picked it up for my brother, it had a blown up 327 and a M21. The current owner has called the owner previous to my brother. He thought it was a 396 car! When I picked up, the guy said, "somebody put 454 signs on it but, it was only a 396 so, I put the "right" signs on". I saw the tach and just knew it had to be an LS6 car. My boss at the time told me it was just a 375 hp 396 car so, it was junk. A friend and coworker, Lawrence Elke (RIP, Lawrence), Told me where to look for the build sheet. Found it behind the left rear interior trim panel. LS6, M22 it said! We've talked to few of the old hot rodders from the Naselle area and when the LS6 car is mentioned they all say, "There's never been an LS6 car in Naselle". Little did they know. Only a little ways from this car, my second cousin had a red w/ black stripes and interior LS5 car. Another friend bought it down in Portland and found a bunch of old registrations over the visor. Some were from my second cousin! That car got sold several times and a drug dealer in California was having it restored when he got busted. Car ended up in Washougal,WA. and got on the cover of Super Chevy magazine.
@@raymondboczek Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I contacted the owner and he couldn't find any witness marks from tape anywhere but, it was a complete document. No plate. My brother was at least the 3rd owner. Only the hood as far as I can remember.
A little update. The owner got a letter today from C-N-C historic Document Services stating this car was sold by Sunset motors in The Dalles, Oregon. Official build date Was 1/21/1970.
I had a friend of mine in 1977 78 seniors in high school had a 70 beautiful car it was orange with white stripes and white interior. It was a automatic car. Between his car and my 67 400 4 speed Firebird which I still own today we were awesome. When he graduated out of school he join the military I begged him not to sell the car to keep it put it in storage he did anyway a week later the guy that bought the car totaled it. Daniel was a good guy May of 2011 he was laid to rest also in the same day and the same Funeral Home my dad was laid to rest. Daniel died too young but every time I see a 70 or get in my 67 I think of him.
Man, why can't I find cars like that? Oh, I forgot, I live in NJ, and that one would've typically rotted into a metal flake pile 30-plus years ago. Super cool to see a car like that! I especially love the "survivor" cars that still run and drive.
Yes - an excellent car for restoration, VERY clean & solid. Save for the remains of older repairs & the repaints, it would've been a very good one to build as a survivor. Enjoyed the video!
Nice example! I often wonder how many more are out there waiting to be discovered? Most people don't want the attention or the headache of someone constantly asking if they want to sell. Personally, I would never sell my 72 SS due to it being a numbers-matching small block car with build sheets to prove it. I always enjoy watching your videos and documenting these SS cars! Awesome find Sir!
Just curious... In your experience, is that 3:31 axis ratio unusual for an original LS6? It seems like most 1970 LS6 Chevelles, that you have authenticated in your videos, have the 4:10 axle ratio from the factory. It is a nicely optioned SS 454. She is going to be a beauty when the restoration is complete! Thanks, Patrick!

I also have a second week January of 1970 build date on my Kansas built LS6. The door panels are original to the car and DO have the SS emblems. Whether from day 1 or not, I do not know. I also found 4 build sheets in my car. 2 are excellent, 1 is not so good, and the other is for the vehicle before mine on the assembly line. It was an El Camino
It's amazing how there used to be GM plants all over the country to handle their own particular districts, rather than just having several big ones now to cover the whole country. How many LS7 cars were built? There were supposedly several camaros with it, I'm sure many more Chevelles got it though

You know that car is a real '70s survivor, from that trailer hitch on it!😄 Love them white interiors in them old A bodies! Think I'd rather have a bare roof on that car though - white vinyl tops can make a car look really clean, but sometimes they're just too much. In today's world, it might be asking a lot of youtube, to still be here in fifteen years, but what do I know...

I realize they're different makes but the Fisher body tag the codes are usually the same from the four different manufacturers olds Buick Pontiac and Chevy.

I remember a friend of my had a burn"t orange Chevelle around that period. It was a nice car but not the SS. Another buddy drove a Chevelle SS red w/blk stripes 454 motor that scraped bubble gum at every bump on the road. I guess the suspension couldn't handle all the weight of the 454.
