    Thank you for the advice and explanation. The mirror came off on my Volvo S40 and I am grateful for your detailed instructions. It just goes to show that with research and patience most of the day to day car issues can be resolved. All the best to you.

    Cant Thank you enough. Recently purchased a 2011 Volvo C70. Just today the passenger side mirror started flapping in the wind while driving. Got to work and it pretty much fell off in my hand. Thank you for posting this detailed video.

    Thank you for sharing this easy (and quick) fix with us! You remind me of my Dad who is a retired auto tech-when I need help with this kind of stuff, he always explains what happened, why it likely happened, and how to fix the problem so that it (hopefully) doesn’t happen again. Though others may not have appreciated your thoroughness, I certainly did!

      Once one side goes the other is next. I wish I was able to sell to everyone a plastic glass stick to run around the outside of the mirror with the mirror heat on. Never use anything of metal. So take a pen cap around the edge. You might get lucky and get the mirror off before it fly's off. Lol.

    My local Volvo dealership was going to charge me $155 for the part (side passenger mirror), and $70 to install it - plus tax. I found the part online for under $25, and now am going to install it myself. Thanks for saving me $250!

    Thanks for the eye opener I had all the supplies I needed. The aquarium silicone & Acetone I use will work perfect.
    My car 03 Volkswagen passat

    • @raytheglass
      @raytheglass  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hope you diluted the Acetone, because if you used 100%. I have heard a customer say it melted both the mylar black pad and destroyed the heating element behind it. 10% acetone is enough to clean the rubber contaminate. Also, thanks for letting us know that the use of Aquarium Silicone will work perfectly being it does bond both glass and plastic, the only difference from what I use would kill the poor fish. You should do your own TH-cam on why use Aquarium Silicone when fixing or building fish tanks. Thanks for your comment, and that silicone alternative.

    My BMW mirror fell off and behind it is this gray stuff that seems like u can peel it off. I ordered a new glass and it also came with these circle, possibly adhesive sticker things. Do I use those and it’ll be fine or should I use the glue? I’m new to this cause this is the first time something like this has happened to me

    • @raytheglass

      Interesting that you see my video that answers all questions. Then you order it from another source with circles tabs that I explained in the video will fall off and will not stick to that pad that you see all different material. I've simply answer is those circles will not that adhere to your frame

    auto parts store exactly what do I ask for?

    • @raytheglass
      @raytheglass  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to buy a non latex based silicone that you can buy at Lowes, and its called GE Silicone. However we do sell it on our website. www.auto-glass.com/carmirror.htm. If you bought silicone from a auto parts store they will sell you the wrong product.

    My Mirror Didn't Fall Out, It Turned Black. Can I Still Place The Mirror On It?

    • @raytheglass
      @raytheglass  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but in your case you have a self dimming mirror. They also call it an auto dimming mirror. When light falls at night and the cars are behind you it gets dimmer. But when they do get old they will turn black or bronze depending on the car. If you'd like to order this you go to www. Auto-glass.com/carmirror.htm On the left choose the make then the model, which then you will see the mirror you need. Also you can see another video. Hope this help or call us at 845-496-2500.
