Whats missing from the original run is the 'kill of the week' formula where he would hunt and kill someone new each episode. I really miss it but completely understand why the revival can't use it. Still loving the season so far!

Miami, yes. Podunk Ice Lake Small Town? There'd need to be a bunch of conspicuous creepy semi drivers.
There were plenty of times in the original run of dexter where we got over the top, goofy ass scenes that were just Dexter's imagination going wild.
There's the montage where he imagines deb finding out he's the bay harbor butcher. The scene of him saving his mother in the storage unit as the 'Dark Avenger'. The scene where the entire city is cheering for him, for killing all the criminals.
So I personally loved the scene with Deb and the woodchipper. Laughed my ass off. And it felt like the old Dexter.
Also keep in mind, this isn't Debra. This is Dexter's mind playing as Debra. So were not going to always get scenes that feel exactly like the old Deb. Its a culmination of Dexter himself, and his memory of Deb.
I agree. I think Deb is a bit intense as a mind figure but she was intense as a person. She was nothing like Harry and it would make zero sense for her to be. I also think the over the top weird scenes are very much in line with how Dexter's mind worked in the original series. I felt the whole scene in the truck/wood chipper thing felt more Deb like and true to the original series than any we'd gotten thus far.

The chipper scene was a throwback to the show Fargo and the original 96 movie.
Harrison had a sinister smile when he saw the drawings, almost like he’s gonna push this kid further to take action against the bullies. Harrison might be evil, and the real big bad. Clancy Brown might just be a swerve and be taken care of sooner rather than later.

I think Harrison is going to "save" him by stopping him from killing people. Similar to his dad where he saves people from serial killers but opposite methods to reach the same goal.

At first I wasn't sure if I liked the new direction for Deb, but as I thought about it more. It fits and it makes sense. Think back to the time Dexter imagined all the ways Deb would react when he was going to tell her he's a serial killer. That scene was also very playful and silly. As long as that stuff is in Dexter's head, it fits =D
100% agree with you. I appreciate that it's not a copy and paste of Harry. I loved Harry of course but definitely am enjoying how dark this connection with Deb is, even if in his own head.
That Fargo thing with deb made me almost hit the floor laughing 😂 i loved it
I actually love how Deb's been used. I just look at it as Dexter's subconscious showing how much he hates himself. I like that it's more unhinged and coming through Debs character.
I think it can make sense that it's more unhinged because he's been repressing his urge to kill so much over the past decade.

In one of the first wrap up podcasts one of the producers mentioned that the series tackled a lot of issues including a school shooting so I think one of Harrison’s big moments that will reveal more about his character will come from that episode

I think they're taking on too many issues when all we really want is to see Dexter take out another bad guy. Most exciting moments in 3 episodes: when Matt gets a rifle to the head for real -- and when the rolls of plastic come out!
@@dashriprock8596 I think we are going to end up getting that. The last two episodes were good but I feel like the “slow” pace is intentional. The episode previews even showed 2 more kills if I’m not wrong. I feel like once shit starts hitting the fan it’s gonna get wild.
I really enjoyed that Deb scene in front of the school. It's exactly what I would imagine a serial killer who has gone in a 10 year long hiatus would fantasize. However, the fact that this was imagined through Deb was strange. This is my favorite episode so far. I think the ending scene really scent chills down my spine: "Matt's ashes. I bet this is the closest Matt and Kirk have ever been." God damn. As far as the pacing, yes, I am slightly worried. Especially now, because I didn't realize there were only 10 episodes remaining. Hopefully, this episode is the beginning of much more.
“New Blood” is all in service of a future Harrison sequel series. Just you see.

As long as they end Dexter's story, I'm all in. They need to fix the ending, not continue to drag it along.
Found this episode probably the most compelling so far tbh. I do think the pace needs to ramp up soon though.
So the dad lied at the end of the episode to Dexter about talking to Matt. And I think it's because he's killing those girls and he's putting them in the caves. I noticed when the chief of police mentioned the caves, the dad looked up and questioned it, almost like he doesn't want them going that far to find Matt...
I guess I saw Ethan as a fellow traveler for Harrison. Clearly, Harrison has some dark tendencies of his own. But he's a lot more successful at normal-presenting than Dexter ever was.
Also, the Deb Passenger is what Dexter thinks Deb would be saying or doing. Harry was always kind of supportive of Dexter's urges. There was minimal judgment. But Dexter carries a lot of guilt over Deb's death. The Deb Passenger says and does what Dexter's guilt is saying and doing using Deb as its avatar. Makes sense she'd be more aggressive and hands-on than the Harry Passenger.
Something is deeply wrong with Harrison. The way he was looking at those violent drawings was disturbing. The line he said to Dexter’s girlfriends daughter also stood out, “those guys don’t know what real violence looks like”. It looks like Trinity killing Rita affected Harrison. It has been confirmed that John Lithgow who played Trinity will make a cameo appearance in one episode.
something tells me that this isn’t the final ending of dexter due to how slow it’s progressing. i expected them to release the entire season at once, and they didn’t. i think the 10th episode could be an announcement for another season. just a theory, i understand how shows do progress on TV (airing every week) but i have a hunch
They did a great job of making me feel the police pressure for Dexter.
Also, Harrison had a little bit of a smile when looking at Ethans pics. Bros a little dark

Actually, the killer reminds me a lot of the ice truck... the thing he does with the blood, for instance. I think he will have a little bit of every killer the show presented before...
It makes sense that Deb’s presence has more power and less personal boundaries than Harry when it comes to Dexter. Siblings just have a different dynamic. Also the billionaire dude is throwing ‘big bad’ flags. Like he’s involved somehow… a group of rich dudes hunting people maybe? Human taxidermy as their trophies? (Explains the preservation process perhaps…)
She doesn’t like actually force him into anything or actually physically touch him . It’s just his subconscious , like when dexter had Brian as his little “voice “ and we seen Brian straight up stab a guy But it was dexter all along .
i actually thought Deb was really good in this episode probably my favorite episode for her so far, I loved the woodchipper scene and the ones where she is basically bullying Dexter are interesting
I love deb being able to interact with him. Shes tough, strong, sadistic and angry. And when she starts to touch him it reminds me of how messed up his mind is. He's really fighting himself while everything else is going on.

Wow I never thought about the bullied kid becoming a potential villain for Harrison but I'm down for that honestly
Hopefully it's just the first 3 episodes setting up all the future conflicts.. I think the bullied kid will come up with a plan for revenge after watching how successful Harrison was with it. Harrison will probably have to intervene to prevent him from going over the edge, or stopping him after already doing something violent. My guess is showing his parallels and differences from Dexter's. To show a different perspective of how people handle violence or what situations make it acceptable or even applauded for.
I'm enjoying the comeback so far!

I noticed that he ( Clancy brown) played a record like the trinity killer and drained his victims like the ice truck killer. I wonder if there will be any other similar traits of the other killers Dexter faced off with.
Love the review!! I just think that the truck scene with Deb throwing the body parts in the grinder was trying to express how much Dexter has been stressing over getting rid of Matt’s body, and it would be so much easier if he could just throw it in a grinder in front of everyone and no one give a shit😂😂😂
After the first 2 episodes, I was frustrated. It wasn't bad, but I just wondered why THIS was the story they came back to tell. However, I got over that and really enjoyed episode 3. So, I'm excited again. I'm still a little worried about how this story could wrap up the series again, but we'll see.
I don’t think this is going to be the final season of Dexter. On Showtime it is listed as Dexter: New Blood: Season 1.
Hope to God it is. Enough with the liberal thinking. The show was ruined by being dragged on too long. They need to fix the ending and lay Dexter to rest. Maybe a Harrison spin off could happen.

My husband and I have a theory that Dexter is going to somehow frame Clancy Brown's character for the murder of his son. I think he lied about talking to his son to have the search called off because the search was going to branch out too close to his house and that would put his little shenanigans in jeopardy. Bodies could be found there if they are searching. As soon as she said she was going to bring in people to search everywhere, suddenly he had talked to him to get the search called off. Would make sense that somehow it falls into Dexter's lap to frame him for his sons murder saying his son found out and he had to kill him and fake seeing him online to protect his own secret.
You nailed my thoughts exactly with Harrison possibly unleashing a monster in that kid. And with that added storyline there’s no way this can only be one season. If it is then I agree, the pacing feels off
It had an interesting twist at the end but I’m beginning to feel that the remainder of the season’s plot will be focused and dependent on Matt’s murder in the first episode and there won’t be much more for Dexter to work with and not as many killings will occur because of the deterrence caused by the investigation surrounding it. So I agree with you that I think the plot needs to advance further soon. Not sure how I feel about Harrison taking over this dark passenger which seems to be the direction it’s going in. It should keep the focus on Dexter. Also, Harrison should only be around 12 years old as he was born in between seasons 3 and 4 in 2009. He is well into high school in this new series.
I don't think time is year chronological with our time. It says Harrison was 5 when he went with Hannah and its been 10 years since Dexter killed. So Harrison is 15 in "show time"
They're setting it up for Dexter to die at end and Harrison becoming new Dexter. That's the feeling I get at least
Yeah, I don't see Dexter making it out of this "season". I think Michael c Hall wants that too. He just wanted to fix the ending, not continue the series all together. He literally had to approve every script to even agree to be involved. I could see a Harrison spin off but not too interested in that.
5:56 Yeah Harry just stood to the side talking to Dexter. Hallucination Deb acts more like the Season 6 hallucination of Brian where you saw him eating food in the background and when Dexter stabbed the guy in Nebraska with a pitchfork he imagined seeing Brian doing it. Deb annoyed me in Episode 2 when she was laughing at Dexter trying to find Matt's body. I know it's Dexter laughing at himself but Jennifer Carpenter's performance was OTT.
What’s nice is in the sneak peek for the next episode it shows deb doing detective work
Deb pushing him up to the mirror, as well as the scene at the school where she grinds up the body, are not supposed to be taken literally. They are simply representations of what Dexter is experiencing in his own mind. That is easier to show in media, rather than always using verbal exposition.

What confirmed it was Clancy to me was the person breathing and the face structure that we could see through the beanie. Ofc the eyes but like that helped me .

I know what you mean about the "PTSD" from season 8. All through that season, from the very first episode, I could not enjoy one second any episode because I was consumed by anxiety and dread about whether they would give me the story I really wanted to see. Even worse, I kept my hopes up until even the very last episode. But, I think that at the very least, regardless of what happens, this season will be better than season 8. They would have to actually TRY to do worse than season 8! And Clyde Phillips said that he thinks its the best work he ever wrote. At this point I'm not too worried, but I think that most of what happened so far could have been condensed into just two episodes, with a slightly faster pace.
Actually in one interview Michael C hall was asked about another season after this, and he was smiling and said maybe. There's no official confirmation that this season is the end. I mean it doesn't make sense to come back after nearly a decade naming it "new blood" to just make a single season given also the fact how slow it has started to conclude the saga.
Don't forget, they said the whole series takes place over "2 weeks" so it feel slowly paced however we get to sit with the characters a little more
I feel it is a little slow paced and I am grasping for information that I feel we should know.
As for Harrison and Ethan this could be something where Harrison channels Ethan to solve his issues in another way. The reaction that Harrison had to seeing the pictures concerns me that there is so much more to his dark passenger and being found in that pool of blood I am sure that's where it's heading.
I do think it's Clancy and wonder if the reason Matt and him were so far apart was about this and will this be a big twist for dexter to find a serial killer who has a son. Will it make him reflect on Harrison and how he will turn out.

I feel like they might be setting up a school shooting with that one character Harrison befriends. And that could be Debras warning that everyone close to Dexter dies, coming to fruition. By Harrison dying in a school shooting, with an ending similar to American History X.
Edit: next episode there is an attempted school shooting.
Harrison may end up on his father's table or Hannah taught Harrison Harry and Dexter's code. Harrison is there let his father know that he doesn't have to be alone with the dark passenger.
I do believe Harrison first kill under the code will be the kid who he protected in this episode.
I'm agree with you Cody I'm also starting to get wonder about if they're using their time effectively with only 7 episodes left. Samurai Jack season 5 was equally a kickass revial in the beginning but then it ran out of time and had a rushed ending and I'm starting to get worried about the same happining to this show. Still loving it so far though.
Been on board since season 1 Ep. 1.. I have a feeling that while this may be a finality for Dexter this new season. However, this could be the start of Harrison. Hence the name "New Blood"..

I really enjoyed the crazy stuff Deb is doing in this series personally. I laughed so much at the meat grinder bit. Regarding the slow pacing: The first 4 seasons with dexter where pretty slow paced but towards season 8 we had waay too much happening in each episode and they felt very rushed. I'm not concerned about the pacing in new blood since the original show runners are back, I'll trust they have a plan :)

6:12 See, I like that it's pushing a bit past the old way with Harry. This is exciting and new, but still within reason. That scene with Deb grinding up the body was hilarious and caught me completely off guard. To me, his relatively with Deb was more connected than Harry, they were closer, so she can get literally closer.
Clancy Brown is perfect for a Dexter bad. Love his work.
Here’s a thought. I believe Harrison is just like Dexter. We know he was brought up in Argentina by another serial killer. I don’t believe Hannah died of pancreatic cancer by the way. Even though he was very young, he witnessed his mother’s murder and was found sitting in her blood. We know he is a genius and seems a little to forgiving and willing to just live and adjust to life with Dexter in his cabin. Matt’s dad gets a FaceTime message from his son. We know Harrison was able to photo shop the bully’s face on that cartoon. I think Harrison saw Dexter driving over the blood. I think when Dexter checked in on him to make sure he was sleeping, he wasn’t. He saw Dexter dig up the coat and probably followed him. Harrison knows exactly what Dexter is doing and who he really is. Harrison is the one that will be pulling the puppet strings and Dexter has no idea. He just wants to be Dad to this kid he doesn’t know anything about. It’s just a theory. 🤷🏻♀️
I am likely very wrong about this…however, I am starting to think Angela might be somewhat (or more) involved with the missing(dead) girls.
Can someone explain to me how the dogs were brought back to Dexters cabin after searching all day and didnt sniff out the body by the firepit? 🤷♂️
I've accepted the pace of this season and just going to enjoy the ride lol. The thing with Deb is I don't mind just because I know it isn't her it's in his head so it's a tweaked attitude.
I'm okay with the pace...we've been gone for over 10yrs need to learn more about Harrison #newblood.. as long as we get the ending we all want ..which I think they will! 🙏

I have no problem with the pace. I'm here for it all! My money is on Edward's pilot for being the missing girl killer. He likes to terrorize then kill his "game." He embalms them! Dexter heard the shot while he was spreading Matt's scent, so this guy lives close. But, haven't we established the area has heat detecting cameras? Will Dexter be caught on the camera, again! Harrison is brilliant and I think faked the face-chat with Kurt. Harrison could train Ethan to be the killer he wants to be. Harrison was taught well by Hannah and knows everything about Dexter.
See the twist i thought was gonna happen was dex was gonna dump Matt into the caves only for them to later discover its the dumping ground for the girls. Dexter would than go down as the sniper killer when they trace Matt's deaths. Like a reverse doakes. But burning Matt removed that

I loved this episode, I like the way the story is more drawn out and it's not just like freak of the week episodes.
One thing I didn't get though is why didn't Dex just burn the body all along? I kinda like the silly Fargo reference with Deb myself. I reckon they might do another season and are seeing how this one goes so are hinging their bets on this....I understand your criticisms though. Something is gonna happen with that bullied kid.

Don't ask me. I was blown away at not only how many people argued with me about that but how PASSIONATELY they argued that there's no way it's Clancy Brown. Lol

I have a crazy theory & if I'm not the 1st to think of it cool props to the other crazy person. Ok here it what if Dexter's girlfriend the chief of police is working with the masked shoot?? I know crazy right but what bugs me is how she ID the lone girl from out of town & suggested the hotel to go stay at, now if right they need to have a good explanation as to why cause that I can't put my finger on. I'm leaning towards a twisted version of the Harry\Dexter arrangement, but still not sure why and since I'm probably wrong it's just a crazy theory

The scene with the girl in her PJ's reminded me of season 4 when the Trinity Killer holds the little boy hostage. Maybe it's related somehow? Just a thought.

I may have the blinders on but man I'm loving this new season it feels like it has alot of tension that the original 8 seasons lost by season 3. I'm hoping this show does so good that they're like hey season 2 dexter new boood coming your way bc I could watch atleast 4 seasons of this as long as they keep it interesting and don't blow there load to fast again. Harrison is my favorite in this season I like how you can tell he's Dexter's son. I know there is something he's hiding. He knows some shit by the way he grabbed that douche by the throat. Loving your videos tho keep it up cody
It's because despite how goofy the police act they are not Mentally handicapped like Miami metro. Where you give them any way to close a case and they will take it even if its complete bs

6:10 I disagree about it going too far. It makes sense to me that the manifestation in his mind of Deb having to put in the work to suppress his dark passenger would increase the strength of those hallucinations or visions.
Also, that podcaster showing up, guaranteed the Bay Harbor Butcher is a HUGE true crime topic and bet she doesnt believe dokes was him. They should do that anyway, woukd be a cool nod to true crime community

How do you think they will reveal who the big bad is? Just a simple unmasking? I think it would be cool if we just see Clancy Brown without a mask, maybe with some people at his house, and he puts on the record he played when he shot that girl. Then the audience can figure it out without the characters knowing yet

I think his son will have arc and dex may sacrifice himself for his son in the end. Be intersting approach if that kid getting bullied becomes the big bad and be amazed if you call it but dont think it heading that direction. I'm shocked how much I'm enjoying the slow burn... I usually prefer the killer of the week but feels more realistic.. He is socialpath, so it's hard for him to connect with his son.
Totally agree with you re. Pacing of the show. I felt it in episode 2 where I wanted less talk and more action. Also agree re. Deb who is now a character from a gothic horror show. She's way over the top. Not impressed with the direction she and the directors are taking with this character. And really - why is she the conscience personified telling Dex not to kill? She killed LaGuerta. She told Dex to kill Hannah. She helped him cover up the Doomsday killing. She was glad when he killed the guy with the horns in the maze. Deb had changed. She was not playing by the rules in those final years.

I do think the bullied kid is going to do something, what? I don’t know . So far I’m liking the show and I think it will start to move fast , maybe by this coming episode.
Love this new season, definitely setting up for Harrison to be able to take out the bullies and probably pin it on Ethan. Rest of the plot is pretty predictable. Obiously the big bad took out Iris so thats answered. I'm sure the sherriffs daughter will get involved as a kidnapping. Setting in motion Dexter's involvement. But the tycoon she is fighting with seems to be the big bad villain not Clancy, same eyes, lol
