You are 100% correct about Harrison spin-off and the episode name gives it away. The sins of the father. Which are paid for by the son. I would expect MCH is his dark passenger moving forward as you suggested. There was no reason to give him the broken kill code.

Harrison had more than 2 and the reason was because harrison had a sense of morality and didn't enjoy being violent like his father and when he saw how twisted and broken his father was he knew he didn't want to be like him. Logan did always look after harrison like a guardian even if not by blood
Poor Logan. But Harrison also brough up Rita as well; and figured out that Rita was killed because of Dexter.
I was really hoping that Logan was just knocked unconscious. Then I realized that I was watching the end of Dexter Morgan.
Yeah they shared a hamburger together. Good point because the kid was a little asshole stabbing people and like magic was a different person the last episode.
I think they did a GREAT job of making us appreciate the original ending.

Also, I love how Dexter apologizes to his kid for all the shit he put him through and then proceeds to basically force Harrison to kill him. Like, "son, I know that what I did to you traumatized you in ways that I likely can't even fully comprehend but here's a rifle, let's add a little more trauma to your story". W.T.F.

Harrison is gonna be fucked up for life. His dark passenger will always be there and every time that little punk gets the urge to kill and wouldn’t know what to do he’d think of Dexter.
That's the type of writing we've been getting with this show for a few seasons now. This was no better than season 8 IMO. I'd actually take season 8 over this just for the fact that the cast of characters and setting at least are much better.

The Batista point is exactly how I felt. Batista represented exactly what we didn't get originally, his friends and family learning who he truly was reacting to that, looking him in the eyes. It would have been one thing to not have Angel in the finale but to show him, set up obvious expectations he would finally learn who Dexter was AND THEN NOT PAY THAT OFF IN ANY WAY WHAT THE FUCK.
that is SUCH bad writing, i can’t even comprehend how the showrunners could just let a GOLDMINE of good television disappear like that. a confrontation with Batista and bridging that gap between his Miami past and his new life would have made this show wrap up so well
@@sierramobley8962 It almost seemed like Michael C Hall or David Zayas just wanted out for absolutely no good reason partway into this season. It was bizarre. Dexter killed people that Batista loved and he considered Dexter a friend. The showdown would have been epic but instead we got this disaster of Batista being on the way.

I think Michael and the writers of the original show felt the lumberjack ending was perfect and felt insulted by the immense hatred from the fans. They dangled a Batista confrontation infront of our faces and then killed Dexter just to piss us all off. No one can tell me otherwise.
I just find it hilarious that Angel is on his way to confront Dexter in iron lake and when he arrives, he’ll be immediately let down upon realizing that he’s dead and his son has fled the state lol 😂
This season was literally amazing up until the point Dexter killed Logan.
I’ve never seen an entire season go downhill in a matter of 20 minutes until now. Really sad to see.
Why? He was caught , bishop had connected all the dots and batista was coming , and as we know dexter will kill innocents as to not be caught. And I think the reason dexter isn’t given death penalty is to kinda appease both sides. People who likes the ending of the books and people who didn’t want dexter being caught. He ended up serving the death penalty but not by a group of his peers.
The moment Dexter grabbed Logan, I actually thought it was one of Dexter's visions that would turn out to be one of his dark daydreams. But then it just continued, on and on, until the end of the episode... :F I'd love to see a season 2 still, where they just start from the cell, and it all turning out to be a daydream - and the show just continues from there, without Dexter ever killing an innocent person.

Just finished watching the last episode of new season today and came here to listen to some bad critique so that I can feel better as the last scene, how dexter died, was the biggest disappointment in my life

While watching the last episode and dexter killed logan, I was like what is this? dexter knows they don't have any evidence against him, the only thing they have is that he faked his death which technically isn't a crime and even it if was it has nothing to do with the bay harbor butcher case + how angla cracked the case lundy couldn't crack with google and a few images, I mean some things in the season was so awful it was like they were just trying to humiliate dexter and move away from him.
I was even looking forward to season 2 while watching the last episode before the end because I was thinking what can they do in the last 15 minutes that will change the series, and I was wrong.
And the batista thing, what the hell was that? angela calls him and says I have dexter and all of a sudden a whole convoy of special ops is on their way to iron like, for what? It seems that saying "dexter is in iron lake" in batista language mans "dexter is the bay harbor butcher and I have evidence get the whole squad here"

@@CodyLeachYT I am watching your video right now and I've noticed a lot of shelf behind you, I can't clearly see if they are books or cases, but you seem like a guy who also loves reading, can you recommend some thriller, crime, wacked up books, it can be something like dexter(already have the books), and it can be something that is exciting and will leave me surprised when the whole plot is revealed
The main thing I wanted was more seasons of Dexter New Blood, and this finale took that away, I get that Dexter has to pay for his previous sins, I just wish he got to do it on his own terms and not his sons.
Being killed by some one he loved as in a father way was on his own terms
He kinda did, he realised he was more responsible than even Trinity, for how messed up Harrison's life was and how alone he was. With less Of Dex influence he would have actually ended up with his maternal grandparents and also Astor and Cody.
Dex had acceptance and probably realised as the son of a cop that him killing one more of Harrison's role models was too much
His son was such an unlikable character, not to mention his own dark side. So what's that all better now? Terrible ending to an amazing show.

Everything you said is point on. The way it ended was awful. You're telling me that Angela is okay with Harrison murdering Dexter but isn't okay with Dexter murdering other murders? She also found out that Dexter was the BHB in days but couldn't figure out Kurt was a murderer for years? She completely gave up the Kurt/Matt storyline to look into Dexter after just one conversation with Molly? Really?
Either way they should twist it and Angele frees Dexter after he discovers the victims of Kurt sanctuary

Is she really not going to put 2 and 2 together and not see that Harrison is fucked up too?
It was very rushed. They had no hard evidence for him to be the murder of any of them, and Dexter should know this. And then just wait it out would have made more sense.

I just disagree in one point: for me this finale is not better than what we got in season 8 for one simple reason: before this you could at least imagine what happened to Dexter and pictured a better plot for him....now his story is over and this is what we got....

When he grabbed Logan I genuinely thought it was a “what if” scenario like what we saw in episode 1 at Matt’s party! My face instantly changed once I realized he was actually attacking him because something inside me knew they were going to fuck it up in those last moments after that jail cell scene.
it was so out of character ... dexter has been in far worse positions with far more superior evidence and people against him and still has gotten away with it .... he knows nothing will stick and even if he wants to break out .....bro once you are in dexter's chokehold ..you pass out with no exceptions ...he has done this millions of time, when people were armed but now he snaps his neck out of nowhere ...wtf

And the award for worst season finale ever goes to you guess it right folks Dexter narrowly beating Game of Thrones because hey writers did it twice in a row after 2013. But this time it made zero sense. Guess more teenage drama shows are more popular these days due to Gen Z demand and mature adult content has gone out of the window (Scream, Hawkeye etc tv series).

Everyone broke character! This show was AMAZING till the last 20 min! First off Dexter breaking code with the NICEST person of Nice Personville was insane! His whole character down the drain! Also ANGELA was so by the book all the way then she lets Harrison slide! Well bytch if u wanted to let somethin slide let Dexter go for giving u Iris killer! 🤷🏽♀️ either she’s BY THE BOOK all the time or she’s not! Also Harrison was SO SICK 🤢 watching Dexter kill and he just killed his dad without breaking a sweat OVER THE COACH he spent 5 min with? Didn’t u just say ur dad saved THOUSANDS? The number of times I asked "why", "what" and "how" throughout this episode was absurd. Angela connecting Dexter to the Bay Harbor Butcher felt so rushed and circumstantial that it drained the central conflict of the tension it should have been generating. You're telling me that all of Miami Metro and the FBI couldn't out Dexter, but this small-town sheriff who unknowingly allowed Kurt Caldwell to murder people for *decades* right under her nose was able to after one conversation with a podcaster? That's just lazy writing.
On top of that, Dexter attacking and killing Logan has to be the single stupidest, sloppiest move he has ever made (which is saying something). He had successfully instilled reasonable doubt in those around him, only to completely throw it out the window with that one rash, moronic decision...and for no reason other than he just had to see his son immediately? Please.
That would be bad enough on its own, but Dexter deciding to coldly murder an innocent man (his friend no less) because, again, he just had to see Harrison as soon as possible, is way out of character. Dexter has certainly bent his code in the past, but this didn't feel earned at all.
While I wasn't necessarily against the idea of Harrison killing his father, the way we got there was idiotic, contrived and poorly written. It didn't help that Harrison hasn't exactly been the most likeable or interesting character throughout this season (or show), despite the writer's attempts to make him so. Him possessing his father's dark passenger was interesting, but they leaned far too much on the "angsty teenager" trope for the audience (or at least for me) to fully invest in his character. And like Cody said, his sudden display of morality at the end doesn't work when the show has made it clear how disturbed Harrison actually is. I don't blame the actor, but the writers for this.
This conclusion may have been marginally better than what Season 8 gave us in some respects, but that is the lowest of bars. It's a real shame because I was really liking Season 9 until this point. Oh well, back to the first four seasons.
Plus it's not like he doesn't know exactly how to put somebody to sleep by choking them - without snapping their neck

I’m so glad you not only spoke my exact thoughts, but also brought up new points to fuel my rage 😅 I just finished the finale and came straight here. I couldn’t even cry for Dexter, and I cried for every other major character death. It was INFURIATING. I had a feeling going in that Dexter wouldn’t come out of this and I was pretty much okay with that. But there was nothing emotional or gut wrenching about getting shot by his asshat son in the middle of the woods. The son I could not STAND until the second to last episode and even then I still had my reservations about his volatility. I just….I cannot. With any of it.
They had an opportunity for one of the best moments in TV shows of all time in having a Batista confrontation and they decided "na let's kill Dexter before that can happen". This was done out of spite for the fans, there is literally no other explanation. There is no way anyone working on this show genuinely believed that was the better route to take. It just isn't possible. They hate us.

Wow, Clyde Philips actually said he thinks this ending is the best thing he ever wrote?? I think he must have had a little too much ketamine in his system! All the plot holes, the huge letdown, letting a backstabbing little brat get away at the end and killing off the whole reason for the show .WTF??? The season 8 ending was so much better! Harrison didn't even hesitate to shoot Dexter after spending a whole season yearning for his love and connection!!!!! Poor, poor writing and a huge letdown!

Despize Perform yeah, despite i loved the new blood it’s undeniable there’s much convenience, but the finale was the last straw. It took Angela her whole career as a cop and she didnt even know a person that lived in her own town was killing girls. Then she cracks the bay harbor butcher case in 3 days. Idk man.
I also dont think they had enough evidence to make dexter freak out like that. Angela even said it probably wouldn’t stick. What do they have on dexter for the bay harbor butcher case some wheel marks on a neck and didnt dexter almost destroy all the bodies when Lundy came? although I guess the pics could have been taken when they first got the bodies.

There were similar deaths or near deaths by Dexter that resembled the BHB case. He also lied to Angela about his alias. The proof for holding him in jail was lame cuz there wasn't enough proof. No DNA to match Dexter to the scene of Matt's and the drug dealers death. Why Kurt got sent hoe but Dexter stuck in jail was dumb. There was Kurt's DNA at ghe scene
She didn't crack the Bay Harbor Butcher case. All she had were theories and circumstantial evidence that only the audience knew to be true. None of it would have held up and Dexter wasn't worried about it at all until she mentioned Batista. That's when he started to panic.

The most fucked up thing of this ending was dexter murdering an innocent cop .. He has always been better than that .. They could have done so much more this time like angela getting disgusted with killers like kurt caldwell that she lets dexter free and then they move to LA for a new season set up but no the makers not only shat the bed twice but this time they shat and then sat on it to spread it all over the place so that it becomes difficult for us fans to revisit the show in future 🤦🏻
This is exactly how I feel. In my case my initial reaction was "this is a great ending omg amazing writing!! My only disappointment is that Batista didn't get to confront Dexter" but then I slept on it and the more I thought about it the more I noticed the nonsense. I'm upset especially bc I'm rewatching the series and I feel like this is just the wrong ending...
Look, so many things were infuriating, ESPECIALLY the Batista thing, but maybe more infuriating than that is the retconning of the drug Dexter used in Miami because Dexter could only get Ketamine as a civilian. It's infuriating because this is the connection Angela makes to the BHB. The ketamine. But it was never ketamine what he used!! It's only retconned so she can make that connection and take down Dexter. Sooo infuriating... It's annoying because Dexter is caught by this cop who can't catch a killer who's been living under her nose all this time (please, 25 years Kurt "showing kindness" to runaway girls who are later missing, someone must have seen him talking to the girls at some point...), Angela unable to discover Kurt in 25 years discovers Dexter because the BHB killings involved "ketamine" injections. To take down Dexter these writers had to retcon the m99. It's infuriating. Angela has no reason to believe the BHB and Dexter are the same person. She literally has nothing. She talks about similar deaths in iron lake but the only death she means is that druggie with the ketamine. That's Angela's evidence: a druggie overdosed with a ketamine injection mark on the neck (not consistent with BHB dismemberments), a random anonymous note saying Jim Lindsey killed Matt, and the words of a junkie 🤦🏻♀️ That's it. Literally nothing. She was quicker to believe a random note than believe Dexter and give him benefit of the doubt. Wasn't he the man she loved? She was too quick to throw him under the bus with only circumstantial evidence. And Dexter killing Logan... don't even get me started. I guess he was desperate bc he didn't want to face Batista, so he had to run away, but it's not like Dexter. I'm so sad the series ended when it could have easily gone into season 2. Maybe without all the rush and with more buildup that ending could have worked, as a seaaon 2 or 3 ending.

Would've been cool if, in that final scene w/ Harrison driving away, the 'ghost' of Trinity was sitting next to him, saying, "Good boy" and we at least had an unpredictable shock ending that Trinity was Harrison's dark passenger all along.

He’s weak and impulsive and yeah yeah he’s a teenager, but man he is a really obnoxious little crybaby. I mean what do you feel when he’s alone with his girlfriend? I was soooo very angry with the new blood ending! I felt it was so disrespectful to all of us Dexter Fans.
The Harrison arc plays into something that really annoys me about today’s media. In movies like Baby Driver, Knives Out, and Ambulance, they treat the protagonist pretty neutrally given their situation, but at the very end making them out to be earth born angels. Harrison wanting to get cuffed is the most token gesture of kindness I have ever seen. It’s like in Baby Driver when he steals that persons car and throws them their purse and it’s seen as a nice act, but that’s like shooting someone in the foot and people praising you because you gave them a band aid. I love all of these movies, and even new blood to a certain extent, but they all fall into this trap where their god send of a protagonist is complicit in actual felonies but act nicer than the criminals around them.

It's funny how throughout the season and series Harrison goes from being a sympathetic victim to being an insufferable little shit with Daddy issues. It's ridiculous. It's a shame too because the actor playing older Harrison (Jack Alcott) actually did a pretty great job. It was the writing for his character that let him down. Not the actor himself.
I hated, hated, hated Harrison as that 'unrelentingly insufferable' little bitch. I would've rather Hannah found Dexter and explained that she couldn't put up with Harrison's punk-*** attitude so she poisoned him and left to find Dexter. Dexter imagines some little sh** standing in his house, dresssing him down and tells Hannah that she did the right thing.
Everything you touched on his 100% right and it took me a year to build up the courage to watch the final season because I knew that they were going to pull some crap like this. I remember reading reviews about how the team was dissatisfied that Dexter got away with it because he was actually a bad guy and they regretted not putting him in jail or killing him. But honestly getting away with it is kind of perfect because the most notorious serial killers go dormant for decades and aren't found which is what makes them interesting
It's cool to imagine Dexter in prison. He can still easily keep being the Bay Harbor Butcher, since murders do happen in there and it would give him access to criminals..

the last maybe 10ish minutes was torture, I literally moved the cursor to see how much time was left and realized there wasn't going to be enough time for Batista to arrive, also I didn't realize Dexter killed coach, I assumed he must have choked him out simply because of how out of character it was.
I can only hope some fans can put together a fan ending using deep fakes and random footage because I didn't like this one.

I think my biggest issue with the new ending is that the ending itself doesn't change anything from when we saw him as lumberjack Dexter all the way to where he died. If Harrison had never found Dexter than other than being slightly more fucked up, the overall circumstances of the story wouldn't have changed. At the end of Season 8 it was presumed by every character within the shows universe that he was dead and now the only thing that's changed is that it's confirmed he is now dead. If Harrison had never found Dexter he would have still been just as much of an orphan as he is when the series ended and Dexter is just as presumably dead as he was at the end of Season 8. What fucking terrible writing to end up with a finale that had no impactful change.

Personally there are things I would change but I liked most of what the ending offered. I wish we would have seen a Dexter and Batista reunion but at least by the end Doakes name was cleared and the world will know that Dexter was the BHB. Dexter spiraling and breaking the code to be with Harrison is a good idea in concept but the execution wasn't the best. I think Dexter getting a trial would be absolutely amazing but I don't think a death penalty ending would be satisfying. I know no one asked but I think the ending should have had Dex get arrested for being BHB then having him get off on a technicality like a lot of Dexters victims. Everyone knows Dex is guilty but no one can prove it and then maybe you can have Harrison kill him. There was a way to give everyone what they want but unfortunately this isn't it.

Dexter’s legacy was basically killed off the within the last 10 minutes of the season finale.
To say I’m angry is an understatement.
What I am upset about most is not getting closure on how everyone reacts/ feels to finding out Dexter is the BHB. Like everything you said about them not showing Bautista was trash because they built it up well. Also I would have liked for them to have had a scene with some closure for Doakes, Doakes really deserve something finally being proven innocent as the BHB. Something like Doakes sisters/ mother's finding out that they were never related to a serial killer would have made a nice scene. Also would have liked a scene bringing back Quinn showing his reaction to everything, Masuka too! So much could have been done with this finale but they didnt do much.
The fact that Dexter is so anxious to get out of his cell and escape when he full on knows Angela would report back at Kurt's bunker = so unrealistically uncharacteristic of him. Series needed another season to wrap things up because the pacing was so off.

I think Dexter managed to convince the viewers that he was justly killing people. A lot of the time he just killed people he wanted to kill once he got a way to justify it.

Dexter dying is inevitable, but not by the hands of Harrison, after they connected not long ago. That we didn't get the reunion with Batista is also a shame. Still wondering, where Angela came from and how she got to Harrison and Dexter so fast. Olsen a non factor. And Angela was still just fishing about the bay harbour butcher case. Harrison tried to kill an innocent Ethan and set him up, so he was not that much driven by justice. For me it didn't add up.
Angela suddenly show up does not make sense. They want Harrison to kill Dexter to become the NEW Dexter. That's the only reason.

All these terrible finales lately (GOT, Dexter twice, etc) are making me appreciate Breaking Bad's beautiful finale more. I think I appreciate it even more now than I did in 2013.

That's because they didn't rush the Breaking Bad ending and always had a rough idea of where it was going. When it looked like Breaking Bad might have been cancelled after season 4, they didn't try to rush the ending. Instead the left it in a way that could be a decent ending while letting them continue if possible. They also started wrapping up plot points before the final episode instead of cramming everything into it.

In a short and lame quarrel Dexter got lectured about justice by his insuffereble, hypocrite emo-punk teen son and then he was shot in the chest once in the middle of a snowy, empty f*cking forest. Complete let-down ... knowing the character's end, maybe I never ever will be able to enjoy the original show.

For starters I felt it was a large leap of his girlfriend to Think he was the bay Harbour butcher.dexter didn't use ketamine in the old days. Secondarily there was no real evidence he killed anyone regardless of Batista . If Dexter had not tried to escape and kill the police officer the whole ending would have been different. The whole story arc was rushed I'm very disappointed with this season and really sad that they will not be making any more Dexter.

As upset as I was to not get a Dexter-Batista face to face at the end or a more dignified ending to Dexter’s character, it really is just the blatant lack of truth that came from this season and it’s storylines. So many things were out of character and just made no sense at all. Loved the part where you talked about everyone dexters evaded only to get caught by this small town volunteer level police chief. Unbelievable
Another plot hole is that where Harrison killed Dexter was at the hunting grounds in which it was clearly stated earlier that there was CCTV, which is how they figured out Matt Caldwell was attacked. What happened to the CCTV?

I love season 8 ending compared to this garbage ending. They setup so many other interesting angles. As soon as he killed coach I new it was going in the wrong direction. It made no sense!

My problem is that Dexter was willing to let himself be arrested for Doax, because he couldnt justify killing him. Doax did a lot of messed up things even. Then Dexter just kills an innocent for no reason. He would have easily gotten off with the evidence. That was the whole point of the show, murderers got off. It would have been more poetic if he got off and then was killed by Harrison in a kill room for the innocent director he killed for breaking the code.
They should have asked Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould to write the season. They know how to finish a show.

When dex was sitting behind the bars i had 1 thing in mind... that he would be hauled back to miami and tried for being the bay harbor butcher, finally and after lethal injection time arrived, he would see all the loved ones that died because of his actions in different seasons. That would have been my cake to cap off the mighty dexter morgan.

The way that they built up Harrison’s darkness, almost as if he was going to take over Dexter’s legacy. It was really hard to accept his change at the end and his decision to kill his father.

It was odd. He went from being ready to shoot him out of anger, to calming down and having a heart felt conversation with Dexter, to just casually raising the rifle and shooting him. He didn't even have to shoot him. Now he has to leave town and be homeless again like he was before instead of being happy finally with his new friends/family. It felt forced by the writers and sloppy.
And all the heart felt conversation was useless, why not hand himself instead of this crappy ending where he ends up being killed?? This was so disappointing. The story was pretty cool, the mystery and everything, but the closure was absurd.
This would have worked better over 3 or 4 seasons of Dexter training him and Harrison slowly realizing his father has an evil side and will ignore his own code. Having Dexter kill the officer at the end in order to allow Harrison to see his father's dark side... it was too rushed. At this point in the story he still believed his dad was a hero and he had finally connected with his father. The fact he suddenly figured out his father was evil in 30 seconds... it was dumb.
My first reaction to this ending was “FUCK HARRISON”. You are right, as a viewer, we sympathized with Dexter and understood his struggle, but when his own son goes the selfish, “holier than thou” route we can not warm up to him at all. One of the worst endings I’ve ever seen to one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
Harrison didn’t give us much. We can’t sympathize with his character. We all spent years with Dexter who is such a layered character that we have come to know. Harrison lacks personality and charisma. I get what the ending was trying to do, but nobody connected to Harrison.

I did notice that the whole season painted Dexter in a darker and darker light. By the end, it almost felt like he was the bad guy. I also noticed his "inner monologue" went way quiet after he was arrested. Like we were now estranged from his character. It was not a great feeling. Also highly saddened and disappointed with the ending and loose ends.
To be fair he was always “the bad guy” that’s not new but what is new is him killing the cop for absolutely no reason at all. It was just awful awful writing
Just finally watched this after finishing new blood last night. I re-watched the entire series in the last two months before watching it, growing to love the show and characters even more. Now I am here. I was warned it was terrible and it really was. Now I will ignore new blood and just accept it ended at the end of season 8. It wasn't a great ending but better then then the bs we got.
Watching this video is cathartic after that disastrous tragedy of a finale. It feels so good to hear someone vent about how contrived this season was and how unlike himself Dexter was throughout it. Beyond the horrid execution of Harrison killing his father, the fact Dexter fell victim to so many out of character moments in the series’ most critical points was what ruined this reboot from the start. And the ridiculous evidence that fell into Angela’s lap as the episodes continued was a slap in the face to 8 seasons of story.

Throughout the season I kept thinking that Harrison is the son of one of the guys whom Dexter killed and he is here to take revenge. That would have been cool I think... this one sucked big big big time.. hope that they make another season and show that it's a dream or something...or maybe that Dexter's heart is on the right side and he didn't get killed...or whatever.. So the Dexter in the original seiries who is written as a genius could not see that he could of gotten away with it, given the facts that (btw I got this from a post):
Angela broke up with Dexter on finding that he lied to her from the start, hid his real identity from her, and she never really got past that. It was only when she found Iris’ body she called him. So in effect she doesn’t trust him and that’s clouding her judgements. Add to that she spends so much time with Mary, a conspiracy murder theorist. Her mistrust on Dexter and her obsession with BHB case, it clear she is paranoid. Her behavior has been unprofessional and weird and Logan would agree that.
Angela’s primary witness in this case is the drug dealer who Dexter had beaten up, his statement is hardly credible. And there’s no evidence that Dexter had actually stab him with a needle. The needle mark on the overdosed drug supplier, simply makes the drug dealer less credible, and incriminate him more. An argument can be made that they got their hands on Ketamine and maybe were experimenting on it? If we were to believe that Dexter had stab the drug dealer with a needle, there’s no evidence that Dexter had knowledge of the supplier and his address. The only accepted argument against Dexter was that he had possession of Ketamine. Yes it’s a prescribed drug but a drug that isn’t exclusive or rare as it’s available in a small secluded town like Iron Lake. On the heat signature video, as Dexter pointed out that he is of average build, carry a common rifle, and a chin scratch is a joke. Even if we were to believe it was Dexter, it just proves he was near the vicinity of the crime scene, doesn’t proof that Dexter committed killed Matt. Again there is no body, no murder weapon. Add to that the camera wasn’t set up to be a security camera, it actually to capture wildlife, so there are multiple blind spots in that area, so its plausible that someone else could have been there. Then there’s those screws. Screw you!, show creators. Angela gets a mail with a note and those screws saying Jim killed Matt. and she finds a screw in the ashes. She doesn’t try to find who sent the mail? Dexter had one screw, the sender of the mail HAD THE REST!!!! Is it too much to think that he was set up? Someone planted the screw and then burned the house down just so it could be found.
There’s no way the DA would look at it and picked it up.
Then there’s Angel Bautista coming in to pin BHB case on Dexter? Why? LaGuerta suspected Dexter, and she was paranoid. No one in the precinct, including Angel suspected Dexter. There was no case against Dexter. Dexter had nothing to fear hearing Angel is coming to Iron Lake. He was leaving Miami to settle in Argentina before he drove his boat into a storm. Season 8, Angel and Quinn let Dexter walk, even though there’s a video evidence of Dexter killing Vogel. If Angel actually went to Iron Lake, he would have given Dexter a bear hug and a big wet kiss. Now a small town cop, who is unable to crack her own missing person case, calls a senior officer in Miami PD, in the middle of the night, to tell him she solved and found the killer of Miami’s biggest and most infamous serial killing case, Angel would have cursed her in Spanish till her ears bleed.

I was rewatching that theory and I don't see any thing that disproves it in the finale. It wasnt outright confirmed, the whole theory premises on this all happening in his head, and what we're seeing is dexter's view. We see Harrison tell him to turn himself in, then decide to kill him at the same time. Maybe harrison was there, and him deciding that dexter might deserve the death penalty was what metaphorically killed him, and so thats what we see

Overall a more satisfying ending to Dexters story arch and closing of the series, would have been for Dexter to come face to face with Batista and admit to being the Bay Harbor Butcher, and we see him in some prison now fully accepting of himself and his dark passenger. I also think as far as any end credit voice over or whatever it would be cool if an pre-recorded podcast episode of Molly's would be to inject controversy by insighting that the Bay Harbor Butcher is more of a vigilante/anti-hero, and maybe Dexter is seen reading a bunch of his fan mail.
A prosecutor wouldn't even have taken the case against Dexter for either charge due to ZERO evidence yet he freaked out and killed an innocent out the blue.. The very minute that happened, I was done with this episode

Even though his confession wasn't documented he was still gonna go down in court for murder or accomplise to murder for knowing exactly where Kurt stared all his bodies

So the absolute most uncharacteristic thing he did was tell Angela where to find Kurt's victims ( it's literally the only evidence that would have doomed him to life in prison or the death penalty ).

Dexter Morgan just happens to show up under a different alias where someone is using Ketamine injections to murder/attempt to murder people in the same M.O. as the Bay Harbor Butcher.

My sister and I are huge Dexter fans. Throughout the whole season we were both saying “ I hope this doesn’t end with Harrison killing Dexter” 😳😳😳 and it did! 😩😩😩 I was SO disappointed! Def so many other ways it could have gone that would have been amazing. So sad 😢💔
I get that it’s a bad idea, and he should “suffer” for what he did, but honestly Dexter putting together He is not a psychopath, he’s just broken, and living a happy life with Harrison, and Hannah, not killing, and having more kids happily ever after, would’ve been good for me, OR him going on trial against Everyone who’s ever known him, and going to prison, and having a Hannibal like prison thing, would’ve been great in my opinion as well.

The familiar characters don't help much in 8 when they're skirting all the character deaths that didn't need to happen, like Deb.
New Blood was only bad in its execution of the finale, which made literally the same mistakes as the first series finale: It left Harrison in a crappy situation, worse off than if neither of these seasons had happened.
Dexter's death happening in general was fine... not by Harrison though, who's supposed to be shedding his dark passenger and... kills his dad to do so?
Can someone please explain to me how in the hell Angela knew to go out to where Dexter and Harrison faced off??? She's dealing with the biggest find of her life and somehow she intuits that the guys are out where the white deer was killed? The writer's pulled THAT out of their ass for sure. Completely contrived ending. Dexter would have ridden it out in the jail cell. He would have never panicked. And just to vent one last time - I never ever could stand Harrison. Always got that pissy look on his face. In a nutshell that is my biggest gripe about this season. The ensemble cast of New Blood couldn't come close to the chemistry of the Miami cast and it seriously left this season lacking.

We could assume Angela’s daughter heard Harrison and Dexter talking, when he used the coaches phone. But still feels rushed to be honest the way it all turned out.
I don't see why it's crazy to think that angela wouldn't deduce that that's where dexter and harrison would be she knew that dexter was connected to the deer and matt and asked him about it in the interrogation

The moment Dexter grabbed Logan, I actually thought it was one of Dexter's dark visions; a dark daydream. But then it just continued, on and on, until the end of the episode... :F I'd love to see a season 2 still, where they just start from the cell, and it all turning out to be a daydream - and the show just continues from there, without Dexter ever killing an innocent person.
That sounds like the most plausible way to retcon this ending.
I also thought it was one of his daydreams, like when he slit Mazuka's throat lol. But no, sadly it was real.

I usually hate the “it was a dream” cliche but please do it! Would work perfectly here in this situation, especially as these dreams have happened before.

Cody I appreciate your review of this horrible episode. Seven months later I still feel a profound loss. I would have loved seeing Angel and Dexter meet. If Dexter had gone to trial that would have been much more satisfying, even if he got the death penalty. It made no sense for Harrison to shoot him.
Can we draw attention to the fact that Dexter NEVER directly killed LaGuerta, Deb, Lundy, Doakes OR even Rita!? He only FELT responsible for their deaths, They actually died because he didn’t kill their killers fast enough....We already knew Dexter is f*cked up but we see bits of our own hypocrisies within his character & are rooting for healing, breakthrough or at least a worthy passing. This ending just feels lackluster & hopeless when correlated into our own experience, hence the us crying like babies. Dexter was a fucking legend, he deserved a more epic death! Period! Lol
He IS directly responsible for their death and the ending of New Blood is exactly what was needed to make everyone realise that everyone around Dexter died because of his selfishness. Throughout the whole series, Dexter have been trying to hide evidence from the police whether it was to protect himself from being caught or because he wanted to kill the other guy in person. The priority of Dexter was always not to get caught, I'm not saying he didn't love Deb, Rita and all the characters around him who died but he clearly always acted as anything to protect him was more important that the life of his close friends and family. Trinity is a proof that sometimes the Code was more of an excuse for Dex, he could have actually made sure Trinity would get arrested and save his family but since he always tend to get too personal with the serial killers he chases, their arrest would have put Dexter in danger of himself being arrested too. If he went too far and endangered his friends and family life, it was because it was too late for him to step back, the risk of being caught was too high so he had to make sure to kill them to make sure they would keep their mouth shut about who Dexter really is. I'm sorry, english is not my natve language but my whole point is: Dexter was selfish and responsible of the death of most of the people surrounding him, he may not have wanted it to be that way, he's probably not proud of it and has a lot of remorses about it but not getting caught was more important than everyone/everything else in the end. I understand that we were all very attached to the character of Dexter, he's the main reason I kept following this show even when it was awful in the last seasons. This ending at least reminded us that Dexter was not as amazing as a hero we'd like to think and only Harrison could open our eyes about it. But I understand if most people don't want to accept this idea.

That literally happens in hundreds of different ways daily all over the world. Also, I never said Dexter wasn’t responsible for their deaths I said he didn’t kill them directly as in Dexter never laid a hand or knife on them. He was indirectly responsible. And for Lundy not even indirectly. Lundy would have died either way because he was on Arthur Mitchell’s tail & Arthurs daughter killed Lundy to protect her father.... that would have happened regardless. LaGuerta was a lying, head stepping, selfish Captain who would sleep with her oppositions man to destroy their life and steal her job back for her benefit. Doakes was a killer too... killed 2 people in season 1 & refused therapy even after LaGuerta insisted he get it. He got paid by the city to take judgement into his own hands, Dex did it for free. Rita was just not the smartest of people...she had terrible choice in men & her life would have been HELL with Paul and the kids fighting drama, she was bound to live a difficult life due to her lack of good judgement & soft demeanor. I’m sad she died but so happy she got to experience her truest love & live free before she died. Deb I Love so much but even she was swayed to kill LaGuerta when it was her heart (Dexter) on the line... proving even the most respectable character can become selfish or unjust when their own interests are at stake. Every Character is flawed. Dexter is just smarter and superior as a human literally for intelligence level, ability, agility, instincts, strength, poker face, bowling, forensics, freaking labor lumberjacking, building a visad like he did was a work of art not easily attained by others I’m sorry but Dr.Vogel had it right. He was a masterpiece anomaly of nature that the world produced & needed for balance despite the casualties.

I have to say, this whole outrage at Dex killing an innocent person to get out of a tight spot is unfounded. Technically he didn't kill LaGuerta - but he completely intended to. It is not out of character, it is his established MO. Rule #1 above all else for him has always been "don't get caught."

where it went off the rails for me is when dexter killed logan instead of just knocking him out (WHICH HE COULD'VE DONE!!), it was where it all went downhill, should he have not killed logan, harrison wouldn't have killed him, and they would've ran off :') maybe dexter could've done a monologue about how harrison doesn't have to follow him in this runaway-from-cops life and then harrison would choose to follow him or not, then that'd be the end depending on his decision
Yeah he could’ve just kept hitting Logan’s head on the bars until he became unconscious or when he got him in a headlock, put him to sleep. If he could collect Logan’s keys from his slumped over dead body, I’m sure Dex could’ve done the same with his unconscious body.
The worst is that Dexter is dead and you can't bring back the dead in any meaningful way. This means Dexter is over. It will never be the same and this was the first time a revival of an old show actually caught the magic of the original.

No dexter could not have knocked out logan. Banging his head repeatedly on the tails would've caused blunt force trauma and possible hemmoraghing and as soon as he turned logan's body around there was no time for him to knock him out in thr chokehold. Even if logan passed out he would've woken up in time and dexter would not have been able to collect harrison.
I had hoped, once Angela saw what Kurt had done, she was going to understand what Dexter does. There is a need for a Dexter. Many wont agree with me, but I didnt want Dexter to die or get caught.

I feel like there is a prett big misunderstanding of Harrison in this video and in the fanbase in general. It's not that the show portrays Harrison as a dutiful white knight who would never kill people - it's how Harrison sees himself. And I am very surprised that so few people seem to pick up on Harrison CONSTANTLY and religously coming back to Dexter helping people and making the world a better place whenever Dexter talks about feeding his Dark Passenger. He always, always, always steers the conversation away from Dexter's need to kill toward him just doing the right thing and making the world a better place. Because that is the only way Harrison could cope, that is the way he protects himself from the thought that he could be a violent, dangerious serial killer, too. Because it makes his father, who seems to be exactly like him, a hero instead of a villain.
The show doesn't portray him as that hero he tries to see himself as. In fact, the show goes to great lengths to show that Dexter is taken aback by this insistence more than once, only to then start to embrace it and believe it himself. Basically, Harrison is written to see Dexter exactly the same way that the later Showrunner of Dexter saw Dexter himself - as an anti-hero.
So the realisation that he isn't that, but that he is most definetly just a serial killer and a villian & has killed innocents many, many times now, leads to Harrison shooting him. Because A), Dexter tells him to do it and tries to make it as guilt free as possible and B) it fits exactly into what he understands the code to be - he is shooting a killer, while he himself is a protector from now on. That's not what the show itself is saying. It's what the character tells himself. Just as Dexter found ever new ways to excuse his actions.
I would have rathered we were left with the Season 8 ending, actually. 😀 Killing Dexter 😢 Nooooooo! 😱 And what an anticlimatic death to end it all on imo. Dexter is just a character you dont kill. 😔
the best ending would that Angela goes sees what Kurt has done and then frees Dexter and let him goes out of Iron Lake and the story goes on that would be best ending in my opinion.And for some moment they way it went i had these hopes up but they got shattered after Dexter killed Loghan i realized they were going to kill him off and i don;'t understand why they can write much more with him and the ratings are too high and Michael C Hall was willing to keep moving.I just don't get how the fuck writers thing to make Harrison the head and who the fuck is gonna watch anyways

I think a lot of us agree, it had problems but was pretty good until those last 15 minutes. You nailed it by pointing out that it really goes off the rails when he decides to kill Logan, it really doesn't make sense. They can't play it off like Dexter was sloppy and panicked, because he is clearly sharp moments before when telling her where the collection of Kurt's bodies are.
Them not paying off with Batista is a sin. I was hoping for another season with a giant manhunt for Dexter, and maybe his kid too, I guess (better if Dexter ditched him.)
Only way they could continue it in any good way, have a new season where it opens with Dexter snapping the cops neck, and fully letting his dark passenger take over. Then it could show Dexter spiraling into a cold blooded killer, while the only one that truly knows his methods fully is his son, who later hunts for him after hearing news of murders' in a similar vein.
