This Electric RC Crawler Truck has gotten Nate so excited he just needs to calm down!! But what a great truck to be excited about! The Redcat Racing Gen 8 Scout ii comes in at a really reasonable RTR Crawler price point and seems to be performing very well. The cool thing about the mirrors is you don't have to worry about "knocking them off". They just fold in. Best mirrors I've had on any RC. I've lost mirrors on my other rigs in a roll over. Hint: When you put the body on be sure to tuck the side rails in the rock sliders on both sides. If you have a 3D printer (I know you used to, I once saw it in the background) there are lots of detail goodies you can download for free on thingiverse, made by redcat; windshield wipers, door handles, gas cap, tailgate handle, roof racks, alternate grills, alternate battery mounts, etc. And some 3rd party stuff too, I printed a nice front skid plate for mine the helps protect the steering arms. And some of the things designed for SCX-10's fit on it as well, like trailer hitches. And you can find all sorts of cool 1/10th scale accessories on thingiverse like ice coolers, gas cans, tool boxes, tools, etc.

I know Redcat Racing makes one race drone. But don't know anything about them buying a youtube channel since I don't follow or subscribe to any race drone channels.

UPDATE REGARDING REDCAT: Turns out it's an entirely different business with VERY SIMILAR Names, and we are honestly GLAD to hear that we were wrong about the purchasing of said company. This was very early news that we caught through the grape vine and apologize for not getting our ducks in a row before talking about it so casually on here. Picked that one up last year and was so impressed that I waited several months to get the TRX 4, both are great but the Redcat Gen 8 is the more affordable and the better option.
@Joshua Mokry I have the Red one. By the time I got it I bought it used and at a great deal with 3s lipo for $250.

Gotta say guys great video!! The Gen 8 looks to be a amazing crawler absolutely love the International Scout 2 body on it. Brings back fond memories of doing trail runs with a close bud in his real Scout back in the 80s.. Think I'm going to have to get one of these :) Happy belated father's day Nate

@3:40 the TRX4 had 5 different modes on esc, #4 is trailing mode were u have brakes n then reverse, #5 is crawl mode were u have drag brake n instant reverse like the GEN8 FYI also the # im referring to is settings on esc, how many times it blinks is what mode ur in
I think mode #1 is standard, #2 is no reverse, #3 training mode, #4 trailing , #5 crawling

Great seeing your latest crawlers on the channel. I love my crawlers, they're really good to run with the family. They are my most used RC as we love just taking them out on our family walks (we're lucky in having great trails on our doorstep) and my young kids can have a go without too much risk!
1993~ish I bought a Tamiya Jeep Wrangler. A second radio, some PVC pipe, two hinges, a servo, some double sided tape, and a key chain later I had a plow. I would love one of these or similar to put a plow on for some winter fun.

My favorite thing about the Gen8 is the feel. It's my first and only crawler so I can only compare it to how other crawlers look when they drive. The Gen8 has a weight to it, the way it bounces over bumps and sways through turns adds a lot to the scale effect. It's very un-toylike!

Love my Gen 8! Added many accessories already and plan on many more!! Owned a full size years ago and when this came out I had to have it.
If you hate losing body clips....hot glue or shoo goo a rare earth magnet under your hood on the inside of your truck and get into the habit of placing them there as you pull them off and they will stay right there....even if your body gets bumped or something! Hope this helps you. I've been doing it for several months now and have yet to lose one! Great looking truck. Way better looking than the (Traxxas) (ssshhhhh I don't own one) trx4!

I know this isn't crawler related but I pulled the trigger and got a goolrc gc001 just got it in the mail today overall I love it. Its a lot bigger than I thought. How do I get a rc sailors sticker so I can represent in Missouri?

You can put the TRX in crawl mode and it will respond the same way as your Gen 8.
Cool truck. I want to see how well it does on the root . It's a wide body vehicle. It might have a hard time . I would love to try my traxxas trx-4 blazer on the root . It is able to just lock the front axle or go full 4x4 or 2 wheel drive. I love the fact that the scout doesn't have body clips!! It makes it more realistic! Issue i have with my Gen 8 is the long rear overhang compared to a TRX4 . . foams in Gen 8 are super stiff also and dont allow tires to conform the greatest
Hey RC sailor friends hope you're doing well. I think the first mod you need to do to the truck is to replace the velcro with Earth magnets.
Good idea. Will not be as affected by mud between them. Velcro will fail if too much dirt is there.

Still love my Gen8 it’s such a great all around crawler. It’s all stock except the Hexfly 25 servo which makes a big difference! Also it’s way more fun on 3s. Going to get a Gen7 Pro very soon!

The trx4's esc has a crawler mode. instant reverse and drag brake. It comes in trail mode takes about 10 seconds to program.
The Light Kit is Awesome, you can get it threw redcats is finally available, I wasted 3 mounts. But the Light really cool.

Hey, guys. Fairly new viewer enjoying your tests and recommendations--the crawlers look very enjoyable. Had to put my 2¢in, though. Abby, i distinctly remember 2 videos where, while testing a new vehicle, you (yes you) ran through a small puddle of water and drowned the test-vehicle. TWICE on different videos! Kaput! Most people probably couldn't have hit those tiny puddles, but you, abby, are the annie oakely of water spots. I'm not picking on you, but... So, fess-up, keep smiling, and always bring that hairdryer with you. Always practice safe trucking! (subscribed)

Hey! I know this is an older video but I have been watching you channel since the lock down and want to get into the RC world. I’m 33 and a lot has changed since I was 13 and racing. Based on your channel I think the redcat gen 8 would be the truck I’d like to start with. What do you recommend? What would be the battery I should upgrade to? What charger do you recommend that charges multiple types of batteries? How long has the electric motor lasted?

Great video as always guys not into crawlers but thinking of buy just the body it look so good love the rc sailor's stickers but it would look much better in black so maybe future multi color stickers?
i own both, bashers and crawlers. my son like to bash so thats why i own 5 of thems. but man they break often ;) but i really like crawling. just a relaxe day in a forest, walking enjoying the day while going through mud and all of that. i own a wraith, bronco vaterra, ecx doomsday, the 1/24 ecx barrage and in order i'm waiting for the 1/24 deadbolt. the next one might be the ecx temper or the redcat everest

Another thing I like about Redcat is the 3d printer files they publish to add detail on your own.. I see they put out a retro roof rack for the Gen 8 among other things.

I never thought I would buy another crawler. I have some $50 thing I bought before I ever watched any reviews or anything. One of those 'that looks OK' moments. But I am going to buy one of these. My local hobby shop carries it. I had a Piranha, so this will be my second Redcat. I have no opinion on the channel / site you mentioned. Never heard of it. Finally, I'm gonna need one of those big stickers for the hood of this thing. :)

It’s actually not the same Red Cat that recently released their letter of intent to purchase Rotor Riot. Rotor Riot’s Red Cat is an analytics company of sorts that uses quadcopter Blackbox information and presents it to insurance companies and regulators. They are not affiliated with Red Cat Racing whatsoever. Also, I would definitely consider Rotor Riot family friendly... they are a “clean” channel (no profanity) and have been for the history of their channel. Which pilot went to jail? I don’t remember anything like that at all... the only thing close is the controversy and fines that they received over the Canadian bridge dive video. Anyways... love your guys’ videos, and keep up the great vids!

Your review of the Furibee F36 back in the day is what led me to modding/building my first lil’ whoop-type quad. Since then, I’ve built TONS of quads and am fully hooked on anything and everything RC. Thank you!
Red Cat Propware makes black box flight recorders for drones. Redcat Racing makes RC cars. Not the same company.
Rotor Riot DOES have profanity. They just bleep it out. Specially when steele was on it, he cussed all the time.
APS FPV Year old info yes... but it’s back in the “headlines” as of recent due to the very recent letter of intent from Red Cat Propware to purchase Rotor Riot. This deal/relationship has been in the works for quite a while now including the formation of the FPV Freedom Coalition, so it’s definitely not a huge surprise. They do/have been bleeping out the profanity (mostly I’m sure, due to TH-cam demonetization concerns) but their more recent content seems to be more wholesome overall anyways and focused on bringing in and educating newcomers to the hobby. I really do believe that they are an incredibly important influence to the hobby, and are mostly responsible for it’s meteoric rise in the first place.
Trx4 has a programming mode. When turning it on and holding the power button down count five blinks and let off that’s what you want to run. Nice rig but the trx4 is more robust and the after market is a lot better. Change the ring and pinion on the trx4 overdrive under drive.
Try to play a little with the standard esc in the trx4. When you hold the on button on the esc, the led will blink one time. Fist time, 1 blink etc... try the crawler mode and not the trail setting which is standard. Nice video of this gen8 by the way but I am more trx4 and scx10 fan. Greets from the Netherlands! 😉🇳🇱👍
