Hi Dr Ghilan Very nicely explained mam 😊 I'm a student of psychology currently pursuing my bachelor's degree. Mam i have one question regarding the future of neuropsychological tests. Till date they are used by clinical psychologists/ neuropsychologists to diagnose learning disabilities, ADHD or any neurodevelopmental disorder etc. Will they continue to be used after advancement in neuroimaging techniques like fMRI. I mean as a student I'm really looking forward to becoming a clinical psychologist.. Will these tests be used in future..will medical tests replace our psychometric tests or is there any kind of threat to psychometrics? Will we psychologists still be eligible to provide diagnosis?
This is a great question, and my belief is absolutely! fMRI is great for showing us what areas of the brain are working/connected when a client performs a task (based on what lights up during said task), but our tests give a lot of information about function (how the individual is actually completing the task, approaching the task, etc.). My hope is that over time we integrate imaging and testing techniques to refine diagnostic procedures in the future. I hope this helps!
Hi.... I have a neuropsych eval later this week. I have been diagnosed with ADHD. I'm terrified of this test because I believe it was missed in childhood due to the fact that I am 1. primarily inattentive (I'm quite introverted) and 2. I am decently intelligent. I.e. I thought I was relatively unintelligent, or maybe a little above average, but always struggled to get things done. Then, took physics and for whatever reason I was running circles around the straight A kids (still got a B second semester in that... if that's not a sign........). Anyways... Terrified because to some degree I'm very good at things like gaming. I'm worried about being denied the treatment I actually need for it, because I'm fairly certain at this point I have it. I got a physics degree... but it took me 8 years. It's not because of a lack of ability to do the work either - when I had my odd spurt of working hard, I actually seemed to do comparatively reasonably well compared to my peers. But most of the time it was extreme procrastination. If a class was hard and novel, that's when I'd tend to do best. I wish there was a fricking brain scan or genetic testing, because I'm certain if we had something that was physically objective, I'd be diagnosable. The other thing is my working memory isn't necessarily that terrible. It's probably actually pretty great, though it just tends to get interrupted. But, if something is stimulating or interesting, working memory works fine.... and unconscious memory, and I get the classic "ADHD hyperfocus" which is more like I can't pull myself away from anything. I'm 29, and I actually worry about getting fired over my ADHD symptoms at my job right now, so this is also of significant consequence.
Thank you for your comment. I agree that a bran scan or a blood test would be a great advancement in the field for diagnosing ADHD, but you are right that those options are not available to us at this time. I hope that the evaluation process provides clarity and ends up reducing your fears overall, as I find the neuropsychological evaluation process is empowering for many! Best of luck in your journey!
@@jacobk9641 Fucking terribly. They weren't intensive at all, said I didn't have ADHD after having me do some stupid test of like clicking a screen. It was like being in the 80s. I reported the lady to the attorney general's office for consumer protection issues. I also refused to pay the bill, they sent it to collections, told collections to produce evidence, and all they sent was an invoice, which is not a two-way contract, and haven't heard anything since, and that was now a while ago. I would ask what they actually plan to do, and look at other reviews for the place.

You're welcome.
I am so glad speeding this video up was helpful!
@@LearnAboutTheBrain It was, but is in no way a negative reflection on your presentation. You did a great job.
