Good afternoon! I just recently completed the 5 hour Nuerophyscological Assessment and I wasn’t doing well at all and ended up tears on multiple tests, specifically the memory of stories and words repeated back and the block test. I don’t cry at all in my daily life unless warranted. Do you have any insight for me? I do have my follow up for results soon and just wanted to be prepared for it! I was told to go by a neurologist for having multiple concussions and Trauma as a teen. I appreciate your feedback!
    Best,
    Karen. :)

Hi Karen- thanks for your message, and I am sorry you struggled with some aspects of testing. It is important to test both the things that are easy, as well as those that are hard/challenging to get an accurate representation of a client's functioning. I hope you were able to share these feelings with your provider and perhaps discuss them in more detail. Best of luck to you on your journey!

What your schedule like? How many hrs and days a week do neuropsychologists typically work? Average pay? Are most jobs outpatient?

Thank you for your message. The answers to your questions vary widely, depending on the setting in which you work. Traditionally, individuals working in academic medical centers may not make as much money as those in an established private practice, but larger institutions support their employees with comprehensive benefits packages and/or stipends for professional development. There are also opportunities for neuropsychologists in both inpatient and outpatient settings, doing consultations, or working for start up companies. So, while I can tell you I am happy with the schedule, income, and flexibility my private practice provides, this can vary based on setting. I hope this helps, and wish you all the best on your journey!

Ma'am, I have had 2 surgeries to remove ependymoma from brain stem and cervical spinal cord. I have been on 21 pills a day... all sedatives. High levels of Gabbapenton, narcotics, benzoids, muscle relaxers, antidepressants. I spend most of my day laying in bed in order to take the pressure off of my head as my neck has collapsed forward. I'm in constant pain. This has been going on for years now. How do these kinds of drugs affect the behavior of someone because I've noticed a lot of interpersonal conflicts I'm having with people and feeling very isolated and depressed and anxious.

Thank you for your message, and I am sorry to hear you are struggling. As I am not your treating doctor, I would encourage you to consult with your prescribing physician about the concerns you describe. Medication effects are possible, but it is important to seek medical advice from your treating provider, as there are many factors to consider. Best of luck to you on your journey!

What sort of assessment battery do you use? WIAS/WJ COG? Just curious if you pull from multiple tests or just one as well. Thanks!

I have a tailored battery for each client, so it is hard for me to say which specific tests I use. Generally, there are multiple tests involved. Thanks for the question, and best of luck on your journey!
