Enjoyed watching a master of his craft performing this work! Thanks for the video. If I still lived in Jersey I’d take the drive over to your shop to have this done!
Hi Gary, great information as always, like the work you do, always professional, but Gary tell Mom happy mother's day, and tell thank her for the banner.
I have a hard shifting only from first to second when cold. By doing this replacement of the shift kit can this help me solve my problem? Thank you for sharing you knowledge and experience!!!
My Gen 2 6R80 with only 1600 miles on it after a rebuild, flared 300rpm from a 5-6 gear shift while just cruising. When engaging into D from Park, the tranny goes into 2nd gear, and then 5th gear. This sequence takes as long as 7-8 seconds as well. No codes or wrench light. Reverse engages perfectly fine. I swapped a new valve body/leadframe, and no change.. I'm thinking something is going on with the forward (A) drum assembly???
Hi Gary, I was just wondering if you have ever seen it where the valve that is nearest the trans fluid level check in the lower half of the valve body will have a broken retaining clip for the end plug. I have seen this multiple times on 6R60's/6R80's, and I was wondering if you have seen this and if so, do you know the cause. The valve is nearest the VB bolt that you torque down at the 35:30 mark to be more specific.
Thanks for the info! I have harsh 1-2 and 2-1 shifts on 6r80. Can you advise where could be the issue? Truck has only 50k miles, and fluid change\ PCM calibration did not help at all....
What are the benefits of the separator plate with tracks vs the one you replaced it with? Reliability, strength? Did Ford change to the bonded separator plate in later years? Thank your for the informing video. I’m about to install my shift kit this week!
one of my valve retainer clips is broken, just one leg, can i run it like that? If you dont advise? Do i have to split the valve body to replace the pin? Or can i squeeze it in without splitting it
@GaryFerraro if I split the valve body, can I reuse the separator plate? Also it looks like if u flip the right half the check balls will stay in the one half and not spill out, and I should be able to easily pop a new pin in and put it back together is what I'm thinking.
I can also just change the clip and separator plate and screw it back together no problem right? I don't need to replace any check balls or anything if I split probably just the separator plate?
Thank for helping .i have 6r80 unite ford van with 155k no code at all but has harsh frist to second gear and in higher speed feeling like some holding back or kind of littrl bump or slice ctoss leak some where in valve body ,what would a shift kit will help.thanks
I saw you answering some questions here, my 6r80 was rebuilt in my ford transit and now it squeaks after warmed up when shifting out of 3rd. What could this be?
That is a clutch squawk, Get the Motor craft Friction Modifier additive and have them put it in the transmission, should take the noise out, the squawk could be because of the friction material
@GaryFerraro looks like it did work, I also found that they overfilled by about 16 oz too so I drained that and put the xl3 in and made sure it was at the right level
@@GaryFerraro it’s because I want to install transgo shift kit myself and it will be the first time messing with VB. Don’t want no do something wrong. Unfortunately I did not understand why is it necessary to push the check balls down in order to take them out. If this procedure is not essential , then I thing it’s better not touch them. Am I wright? Thank you!
Gary, would you recommend this shift kit for all F150 6R80's even the ecoboost F150? What about the Sonnax Zip Kit? How are two kits different in what they do?
I would recommend the shift kit, easy to install and prevents converter issues which is a big problem with this trans, The zip kit comes with all the end plugs which i haven't really seen a problem with, shift kit straightened out a few issues for me
@@GaryFerraro thanks fir the response. I opened up my pan on 2013 to get the plate and valve body numbers and was surprised to see the fluid was completely Black at 80,000 miles!!!?! Is this typical? Or has this vehicle seen heavy towing/duty? Thanks!
Hey mate i have got ford ranger 3.2 auto trans 6R80 , everytime i downshift from gear 5to 4 gives me a jerk other gears shift and downshift nicely what do you reckon the issue might be? Valve body or the solenoids? Car has done 304k kms
I did the pan drop and filter replacement, refilled with fluid and drove for 1k miles then drained and filled again and drove for 1k miles, then repeated the drain and fill. My 2014 6R80 now has 160k miles on it and still works very well. Gary’s advice to use a high quality ATF like Mobil or Amsoil is spot on. I personally used Amsoil and it’s been great, even when towing near full GVWR with an 8k lb camper.

Hey gary what oil should i use for my zf5hp19fl besides oem? Also does aftermarket filters cause issues like the zf5hp24?
Any premium synthetic fluid like Mobil one or Ams oil
Use OE filter, aftermarket can cause problems
