Here's my written guide if it helps: thecarpentersdaughter.co.uk/renovations/plumbing-tap-sink-waste/
Isn't it a GREAT feeling when all of your efforts actually WORK ?? This brought back memories of my own plumbing efforts in years gone by. Wish I'd have had the plastic fittings that are so readily available these days...but you still have to work everything out and then fit it all together. This video will be invaluable to the first timers...and even those who have already attempted other plumbing projects before.
I need to do this in my own house and it is refreshing to see someone relatable making content like this! Thank you 😊
Fantastic! To see the joy in your face at the end '' I did this '' :) Yes you did. An excellent job! Fair play. :) A great video -thank you
Thank you, our trap sprung a leak, boo! Your video helped me work out which parts go where!
Really enjoyed watching this series of videos. What I have really taken on board from you is that it is worth taking your time and breaking the project down into smaller manageable tasks which makes it far less daunting. My late father-in-law used to say "measure twice & cut once". Looking forward to the next project.
Thanks! Breaking it down has been much easier for me to digest too.. and a few deep breaths 😄
Spot on with the idea of fitting some wood packers for the pipe clips , a dab of no-nails will hold them in place , wait till the no-nails has set and then fit the clips , top video as usual
Thanks for the tips :) Will definitely use some wood now as it sounds the strongest option :)
Small pieces of 15mm copper pipe used as spacers is a neat and clean way to bring the pipes away from the wall. That's the best method I've found. Although maybe the hep will work the same way, as it will be hollow and rigid enough to take a screw.
Great work as always 🙃
Yes, I was hoping it would be the same with plastic plumbing :) Thanks for the tip :)
I really like what I see! Cool job 🎄🎄🎄👏👏
Thanks Gary :) Glad I challenged myself on this now :)
I’ve worked with both copper and plastic. I prefer copper but each to their own. You Did a great job.
You solved a problem for me as regards the sink bit. Thank you
Yeah hind sight being the great thing it is, services to and from sink needed a little more planning but hey i say this as spark and you have done more plumbing than i ever have. Also fitting out the sink furniture before fixing in absolute genius, if you dont mind i wil borrow that one day! As always great vid and great to see you gettin stuck in.
Thanks and feel free to use that idea haha. Planning is definitely not my favourite part of DIY, but I'm definitely getting a bit better than I used to be lol. It'll be great to look back on this if I ever need it :)
Looks good it came out well. As other people have said silicone around the wast where the two metal parts meet in the bowl. And longer screws with the pipe clips and off cuts of 15mm pipe. But nice job.
Thanks so much! :)
Update, I've now found a spare gasket from sink waste that came with another sink, so the drain is now sorted! Thanks for bringing this to my attention!
for the waste pipe clips i usually cut two small little bits of 15mm copper (or smaller) at about 1cm long or size required and use some longer screws. this steps the clip off the wall that little bit that is required.
Thank you so much! :)
Really great helpful videos. One tip you need to leave a gap of 60mm from your valves etc to your pipe clips to allow for expansion. That’s right out of the handbook from JG speedfit. If it’s to close the expansion could push against the pipe clip and the seal will fail. Hope that helps for the future 👍🏻
Nice job - I fitted my sink last year too. My only ‘tip’ would be to silicone under the sink basin, I.e where the sink meets worktop. That way, no water or cleaning product will seep under the basin and damage the worktop or cupboard. Keep up the good vids!
Thanks! That's exactly what I'll be doing next and clipping the sink in to place :)
Wow really like your channel! I’ve been doing bit of DYI and I’ve found your videos really helpfully! Thanks for uploading!
Thanks! :) And any time ;)
I like the easy fix, plastic fittings - very cool
Me too!!!! I suppose any pushfit I feel dubious about, but the seal inside seems to do the trick 😊
You make it look so smooth and clean but in reality....
good job with the routing and slowly fitting the connections.
wood scraps can make it easier to bring the supports to the pipes for support. and if you paint happy faces on the scrap blocks they do a better job supporting things.
flexible pipes and connections with rubber or silicone seals are so much easier than the old way with rigid pipes and glue.
great job.
already voted for you.
now for the ultimate question. is this all Hans approved? I am sure it is. HA!
LOL to the happy faces 😂 And thanks so much again 😀👍
Brilliantly done.. voted for you...
Thanks again so much :)
Good Job! Code won't allow me to use any flexible pipe for waste water in my region, but I like what you've done. And you got my vote again. Recently was assigned a new IP by my ISP. I can't think of a better way to use it.
Haha, thank you so much again! :) I wonder why you can't use flexible pipe? 🤔
The major problem with them is that they collect the dirt and grime that’s supposed to flow down the drain. The zigzag sides are great for slowing down the flow of water and letting the gunk sit and collect. Making matters worse, since they slow down the flow of water, gunk can easily collect further down the pipe, especially if they pipe already isn’t 100% clear.
Thank you so much for this. Life saver can you use a bottle trap instead of P trap. Which is best?
I've used bottle traps when I need save space. I've read since a p trap has better flow, but I'm not a plumber - it's just something I read.
Longer screws then cut some small pieces of 15mm pipe the same length as the gap from the clip to the wall these will act as spacers and you will be able to tighten the clip up nice and snug. I do this all the time it’s a lot neater and tidier than using a piece of wood.
Thank you! :)
You are more than welcome ☺️
thats what i do , im a plumber
I am also a plumber 😃
Great video vikkie as always
Thank you Warren :) Always worth challenging yourself! You just never know what you can achieve :D
@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK like they say the world is your lobster 😂😂
Lovely video Vikkie! Don't mind the five clowns who just had to downvote the video. They did that just because they are jealous of this hot DIY:er. 😘
Haha, thanks so much! Great use of the word clowns too 🤣🤣
So much to do - you did an awesome job 👏👏👏🌲🦊🌲🤩
Thanks, Claire 😍 And totally worth it!!
Of course before you connect (Your washing machine outlet) to the spigot you have to cut the sealed end off the spigot to the diameter of your hose.
I love how honest your videos are and really informative. I'm just wondering have you had any leaks with the jg speedfit fittings as I'm thinking of fitting a shower using them. 👍
Thanks :) I've never had a leak from my own Speedfit plumbing, but ive had to repair one my father in law installed under our toilet sink. I found it's far better to replace a £2 piece from scratch and throw the old one away. The leak was very slight, but I'm a worrier 😂

Great thanks for getting back to me.
You have my vote. 😁
Great to see well done.
Thank you 😁
If there is gurgling after your tap water goes down, consider replacing the McAlpine with a built in Vented McAlpine, it happened to me so was an easy fix.

Thanks so much x
Use bits of flexi pipe as spacers for the waste pipe clips.
to tighten the waste to the sink you could always use an old chisel or flatten the end of a offcut of 15mm copper pipe x
Thanks so much" Prefer the idea of a chisel compared to a smaller flat head screwdriver :)
Damnit Vickie, when you said "you know you want to" I spat my cuppa out...... You never say that to me 😈😈😈
🤣🤣🤣🤣 you can't make it up 😂😂
Great vid, great channel
Thank you so much! 😊
found it love them taps
Nice job hun
Thanks so much :)
Hats down!
Using blocks to shim out pipe supports is perfectly normal around here. Try to hit wall studs when you're securing the blocks. If you can't do that then make sure to use proper drywall/sheetrock/plaster anchors. (I have no idea what they're called in England.)
Thanks so much :) I think they're just called plasterboard fittings around here, but know what you mean ;)
Well done, Its kind of fun like a puzzle, assuming you don't have to go the store 53 times.
Yes, it was 😁 I look back and it was relatively simple, but some head scratching when you're learning the ropes 😊
Good work beautiful lady . One problem my eyes watching you more, rather than what you doing. you are gorgeous. Blessings.
The problem I had is that some sellers say 1.5" is 38mm and some say it's 40mm.
I spotted the same problem in Wickes last year when I needed to get a very specific waste pipe.
Ended up having to use a reducer
Did I miss you siliconing the sink to the worktop? Have you got an effective anti. - siphon loop for the dishwasher drain?
Amazing
Why not clip to the wall but use bits of 15mm pipe as spacers between the clip and the wall? That’s what I’d normally do. Neat job by the way.
Thank you:) And thanks for the tip :)
Cool!
Thanks so much :D
Another cracking good job seriously well jobbed, then :o)
And I'm a tad dubious about the voting thing! I get this message:
"Thank you!
Your vote has been registered!"
But the heart never seems to be filled in red; it just has a red outline. Is anybody else experiencing this??
Thanks, I thought the same too to be honest lol. You could try this link instead bit.ly/2S2XFE6
Probably a personal choice, but a telescopic unit would be an option to adjust height of P-trap to get the correct degree of fall for the waste pipe - www.wickes.co.uk/FloPlast-TW473-Telescopic-Appliance-Half-Trap---40mm/p/431942
Ahhh! That's a great idea! Thanks! :)
16 sad people giving her a thumbs down ..no need for it
what is the size used for pipes for kitchen sink waste? 30mm or 40mm?
40mm
Yea scrap wood behind, or just put the clip on to the pipes and use longer screws and dont tighten them hard against the wall.
Thanks!! I wondered about longer screws, but with it being plasterboard, I think the first method will be better 😊
Good work, but I'm afraid I'm old fashioned and use copper everywhere I can in my house - except waste of course...
Thanks so much! One day I'd love to give it a try with copper! I think plastic is particularly great for learners like me 😁
I think both have it's place in the world of plumbing. I prefer copper but when you do not have tools or the ability to work with copper pipe then as long as you use the plastic pipe properly and for the right use I do not necessarily think it's the worse thing ever invented and I can really see the pros.
@@actiongirl5 I'm sure you are right - just all those push in rubber seals make me a bit nervous :)
@phildxyz Obtaining quality made and tested plastic pipes, end caps, valves, etc will at least minimise faults or leaks. I'm with you on the old copper, nothing says reliability like shiny freshly soldered copper pipes..... ;D
Copper all the way for me and looks beautiful when buffed up
need plumbers mate or silicone
With the waste pipe I'd use some spare bits of 15mm copper to make spacers so the clips stand off the wall
Thank you so much! :)
Hold tight
Yer just get some Packers of wood the fix the clips to that there's no real wieght there anyway . 👍
Thanks so much for the tips again :)
Your beautiful 💞
You forgot to seal the drain, it might leak with plug in.
At what time? There's a seal underneath the drain with that plastic bit.
Plumbers mate or silicone around the waste has you set it in sink.
Just to give you an update - I've now found a spare gasket from sink waste that came with another new sink we had (although the actual sink got damaged in transit), so the drain is now sorted :) Thanks again for bringing this to my attention!
Most plumbers use silicone or putty because the foam gasket fails and you get callbacks.
We had our kitchen sink fitted by a fitter installed the kitchen and he did a similar thing, no silicone no nothing just the gasket the sink started to leak into the cabinet below and the same went for the overflow as the rubber seals just do not seem enough on their own and this was a Franke sink. I would highly recommend silicone for the seal. I did that with ours and 6 years on not a drip!
Can u fit my tap?
:D It might be a VERY long time til I get round to it lol... I've agreed to do SO much around my house 😂
You really need to put the hose crook around that washing machine hose, water could siphon back into the machine the way you have it.
Fair play for doing it yourself 👍
First?
Yes.... YOU WIN!!!!!!! 😂😂
My first 'first' comment ever. Not gonna lie....feels good haha
😂😂
like like
It will work, but no craftmanship is shown. Work straight and plumb en fasten the pipe, not the couplings. Look into regulations and then start a YT-movie. Also 1 cm/40 cm is much too much. Your drain will fall dry and clogging will appear. 1cm/100cm is much better. Also the whole rerouting with the water is strange and takes too much material.
Thanks for the feedback. I'd like to clarify that I haven't said I'm a craftsman. Nor is this a tutorial.
It is great to see a chick doing a trade and are you qualified?.
Thanks! No, just learning as I go along each week for my own house renovations. I won't touch electrics or gas though.
Amazing
Thank you
