I was skeptical but I tried exactly how it’s mentioned and it WORKS! You have to spread the meat thin and make sure the flame is on medium low heat. Also! Heat up your oil and make sure it’s hot enough to fry!
Thank you for the recipe súper budget friendly!
I agree with Kimberly. The meat mix needs to be cooked before putting into the tortilla
I've been making these for years with slight variations..... use corn tortilla instead and deep fry them. Cover them woth a green tomatillo salsa when ready to eat and OMG! Delicious!!
I'll have to try this . I fry my tortilla's on one side and after add fried chicken pieces and add taco seasoning. And add lettuce, tomatoes, cheese fold and fry both sides .
If you'll notice, it's a thin layer of meat inside the tortilla, so there's no need for concern about the meat not being adequately cooked. (The thickness of the meat appears to be between 1/4" and 3/8" before it's been cooked.)
The fire is on a low setting while it's cooking, and the steam created inside the folded tortilla also assists in cooking the meat.
If you want to, you could always put a lid over the pan for a more concentrated cooking effect.
Since it's a thin layer of ground beef, there won't be an enormous amount of grease from it, especially if you select a leaner fat-to-meat ratio of ground beef.
What grease there does happen to be, inside, will be soaked up by the inside of the tortilla (making it extra tasty). If you opt for the multiple-folds version, the grease inside will be less noticeable.
ב''ה, particularly on the thicker version I was expecting steaming that'd give you a nice meatloaf-wonton-chimichanga-pierogi.
Thank you. I was wondering about that the whole video.
i swear, you yanks would rather die then use normal measurement system.. 3/8s of an inch lmao
I was rummaging through the fridge and came across a package of tortillas we purchased for taco night and wondering what to make with them. This is perfect and so ingenious! Thank you for posting :)
Well, I just made this, BUT replaced the hamburger meat with Chopped Beef (the kind you have with a chopped beef sandwich),
added the chopped onion, and mozzarella, but skipped the paprika, and it was SUPERB...
When serving, I added a small serving of barbecue sauce to the plate for dipping, and it was great.
Thanks. You got LOTS of great video's on your channel, keep up the great work.
Do you mean Corned beef from the tin chopped small tks
I made these today. Burned quickly. Definitely have to make them on lower heat. Once I got them right we realized they weren't all that great.
Helly , these are awesome!!! Surprisingly, the meat cooks through and that was a concern. But, no worries. I’ve even added a small can of diced green chiles, completely drained. superb!!
If I prepared this, folks at home are going to think I went fir a cooking class as it looks so professional, with minimal effort. Glad I came across something that is unique. I am going to tell my children to learn from here
What a great idea! I would cook the meat first too. But would have to add chopped peppers, cumin, and finish with a dollop of sour cream, perhaps some salsa! And more cheese!
It just might be what's for dinner tonight!
Hello 👋how are you doing?
This is NOT Mexican food but her North American variation of original Chinese bread. Please stop making another cuisine or suggest people to do so. It’s meaningless to suggest to make another cuisine while she is not making Mexican food. This isn’t to suggest making tortilla Americans are used to eating. She should have used Chinese crepes to shut people up.
It's clearly cooked from the inside
@@KittenBowl1 too bad you didn't shut up!!!
Great idea
I cannot rate this recipe highly enough! 10 out of 10! I decided to cook this on a whim today because it looked so easy and quick. I did make a couple of substitutions: Mission Cauliflower flour tortillas, 93% non-fat ground beef, 5 sliced cloves of garlic and Kraft Parmesan cheese instead of mozzarella. I didn't need any sauce for the finished product at all. Thank you so much for the new recipe!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Made this tonight. Let me assure you that the meat is cooked through and through 5 min on each side on medium low heat!!
Very tasty. I would add cheese to both sides!!
Exactly!
Thank you for reviewing the recipe 😊
There is no way it is..Meat does not cook that quick
@@Joseph-zd7kg doesn’t matter, it’s beef, it can be eaten raw.
@@Joseph-zd7kg There's always one that thinks she knows better 🙄
I can't imagine that the ground beef is fully cooked in just the short amount of time and with such low heat. Definitely agreeing with those who advise to cook it first.
Cook in the oven

@@estelaalbarracin9365 what a great idea - does this brown while you use the bake method instead of skillet? Approx how long does it take and temp you use please advise
@@estelaalbarracin9365 sorry I am assuming you can bake this dish as she shows without pre-growing the meat?
HERE, IN URUGUAY WE MADE "EMPANADAS".
BUT WE CLOSE. NOT OPEN.
THEY ARE SIMILAR
I made this for dinner tonight. It was very good. I overdid the onions, I think. I think either the yellow onion or green onions next time, not both. I also added a bit of garlic and some oregano and a bit of chili powder. Not much because hubs doesn't like spicy. I spread the hamburger mix on half of the tortilla very thinly. The hamburger cooked through, no problem. Helly's not kidding about setting the temp at medium low after getting your pan hot, lol. I used my 12" cast iron and let it heat up while filling the tortillas. Medium was a bit too high. The first batch got more than a little toasty, lol. I like this recipe. I can see using ground pork and pineapple for quesadillas al pastor as well. Thanks so much for this recipe.
Girl you better not have go check your husband. He may be dead meat is not done.
Pork and pineapple... sounds yummy 😋
@@billiejeanbaccus159 The hamburger was done. Do you not see how thin a layer of hamburger she puts on the tortilla? It doesn't take long to cook through. I made a total of 10 quesadillas with 1lb hamburger. Every last one was cooked through. You don't know what you're talking about.
@@billiejeanbaccus159 That's ridiculous. Plenty of time to cook a thin layer of ground meat. Why do you people want to cook everything to death!?

Cook the meat before using it in the recipe. Or prepare your stomach lol
@Belle Healing Music No, it's not. Just because you have something similar doesn't mean it's "yours." Quesadilla Picadillo is also a mexican thing, and China has something similar to it as well.
I am alone. I am glad I am a good cook. I am creative, and give to others our Jesus. Thanks for youdr recipe, I will make it! Love Bob
The meat is gonna taste 1000x better if you brown it first then put it in the tortilla

😊😊😊 эх
All over the Mediterranean and turkey that is the way they do it and it get cooked, but she is missing few other spices and sweet red pepper plus you only folded once 😂
Totally agree 😊
Maybe they don't want to brown the meat first!! 🙄
First time on your channel and I made these for lunch yesterday and I paired it up with Guacamole and Salsa dips and changed some of the cheese to Monterey Jack and I am not normally a lover of Tortilla's but this recipe has changed that completely. YUMMY does not cover how good these are. THANK YOU.
You have a new sub
Just wondering if the meat meat was cooked enough? Like the recipe.
Maybe we can cook the meat before fill the tortilla isn’t? 😜
I thought the same thing.
My same thoughts.
I thought the same, the meat doesnt get cooked enough with the frying time being not exposed to the oil. In Pueryo Rico we cook the meat before and it is a lot more savoury and less risky if the meat is well cooked.
I was thinking that too lol... 5 minutes on medium low?... Mince would be still raw...
But.... I love the idea, might still have to give it a go, just turn the heat and time up... Lol
Mexican cooking has done this for zillions of years. Raw seasoned meat in raw corn tortillas. Then fry. Very tasty!
Very good my Canadian friend thank you for sharing
Thank you for the great idea what to do with minced meat
I love this idea, always have extra wraps on hand. I think I would cook the beef first so all the grease isn't in the sandwich. I couldcadd cheese to put yhe beef on to stay in place. Thank you for yhid great idea.
You are right 👍🇬🇧
She must be using ground sirloin, because I don’t see a speck of grease, do you?
I'm curious, why no cheese in quarterly folded tortillas?
@@kosovosrbij6135 I would use cheese, but my son in law who is from Korea doesn't like cheese on some things so not on his. I do like the sirloin idea for no grease.
Ml ..
I wondered if the meat would cook at all bcause it takes longer than to brown a tortilla. Well you did it🎉 my tortilla would have burnt up 😊
This looks so good, and not hard at all. I live alone and love recipes like this that one can make small amounts of, but are a satisfying meal.
Me too😅
I make these tortillas ,but I cook the meat first, then spread some filling onto the tortilla light pan fry to a golden brown
Very delicious 😋 Greetings from Scotland 😊 Have a great day everyone 🌻

Very late greetings from the UK!
Love this idea. I'm always searching for tortilla recipes. Thank you for sharing.
Quesadillas de picadillo, the only difference in mexico is that we usually deep fry them so the meat cooks all the way without burning the tortilla too much, but that’s the name of the dish :)
Wow........it's basically a quesadilla....
Tried this and my daughter said it was so good and so easy she can make it herself.. and that's saying a lot for my sweet but whiny teen 😶 It wasn't too greasy and was cooked perfectly! Thank you Helly! 🥰
shes going to get fat and hate you for it.
I have not tried this yet but is cooking at 5 mins each side enough to cook the mince?
@@barneygribbin3161 Yes
@@barneygribbin3161 I just made these for the first time. I did the quartered version which cooks a little longer. They were delicious! I’m excited to make again tomorrow with the other half pound of ground beef.
Raw ground beef, gets cooked inside the tortilla, without fat rendering out of that cooked ground beef. I'm calling shenanigans on this one.
Looks awesome! Easy and delicious😊😋!!! Could cheese also be put into the small ones and would this recipe work in air fryers? Thanks for this intriguing recipe🌹💜
Can these be made in the oven? At what temperature and for how many minutes? Thank you in advance for your answer, greetings from Canada
I made this this morning, only used canned chicken cooked first. It was great.Cooked in my George Forman grill...
I love this idea. I'm a caregiver and these would be great meals for my client and myself. Thank you for sharing ❤❤❤
Happy Cinco de Mayo.
Great recipe. I was concerned about not cooking meat first, but tried it anyway. Taste 👅 great. But I cooked a little longer due to meat not being cooked first.
When I did it I didn't use quite as much meat and it turned out well done.
First time here. You are appreciated. Shared.
Hi Chef. How can I ensure the meat inside the wrap is sufficiently cooked? Hope to get some tips. TQ
Make sure to spread the layer thin
Wish all the cooks wore gloves!👏👏👏😊
Looks great and dip them in some Tzatziki and you've practically got an gyro! Yum! I'm going to try this! Thanks!
This is old my mom would make this but with corn Tortillas in the 70s
The raw beef. I can't get past it. But I would try it cooking the beef ❤️
Yes cook it first 👐

Those look absolutely delicious Miss Helly! Wow! I definitely want to make them! ❤
Looks yummy, but does the meat cook through? That would be much better done in an air fryer than on the stove.
Dear Helly I love your videos and the easy way you are explaining everything to us. Thank you so much for your efforts. I do not write often because my english is not so good. Mother language is Greek 🥰 I never thought that tortilla can be also fried 😍 in minced meat we also add parsley and mint which is a super combination for better taste. I cant eat wheat due to gluten sensitivity but I can use the tortillas that r gluten free..I agree thst the.meat needs to be cooked first

My mom use to make this but with corn tortillas we use to call them emergency tacos❤️🌮gonna have try this one
Makes me hungry to eat
Families have been making these "Patty Tacos" for years and years.
These are TACOS!
Oh and that's not enough time to leave cooking ( people could get sick), you put raw meat, raw eggs. ( we dont use eggs). Can use shredded carrots, potatoes and eggs of course to stretch out the meals.
Having the tortilla folded in half ( after having *cooked well) open and fill with shredded lettuce/cabbage, cheese, peas ( optional) sour cream or guacamole on side or both. Normally use white corn tortillas vs the angel flour tortillas.
You did get great coloring on tortillas ' yet meat doesn't appear thoroughly cooked.
Using less meat or more oil when frying should solve the undercooked meat issue.
Yessss...Taco Bell makes these.....lol
I wonder if you could use an air fryer.
We used to make something very similar to that first one. We used to call them Mexican Pizzas.
We used 2 smaller tortillas instead of a big one folded in half.
Looks good...but why do I feel the tortillas would burn before the meat cooks all the way through? I think I'd rather cook the meat 1st then add it
Looks great if you don’t mind undercooked hamburger, and if you are picky about that then you can always pre cook it, personally I prefer it a little pink. Also you could mix some A-1 steak sauce in the mix to boost the flavor
Try not cooking on the high setting. This should be cooked on medium heat, slowly. I used my wok with a cover to make sure the meat was thoroughly cooked. It only took 5 minutes per 2 tortillas, total of 4 tortillas for the recipe above using the poster's measurements.
No. It has to be cooked thoroughly. Only steak can be pink.
They look good.
You pretty much made Chimichangas. My mom would make them for us as a quick meal. But she would cook the meat first and fold the whole tortilla in to a square and fry. Topped it off with sour cream, salsa/pico de Gallo, lettuce, and shredded cheese. Super yummy 🤤
I think cooking the meat prior is a better idea. They look delicious.
Yours sounds better. Bc i am like tortillas cook fast then hamburger. I think meant needs to be cooked first
@@meredithgallegos1898 Yes, definitely cook the meat first & drain the excess oil...will prevent tortillas from absorbing the oil on the inside & dripping.
U from Texas? Do you know the legend of how chimichangas were named? 🤔🤔
You mean quesadilla?

The meat was not raw! It was super delicious. 13 Min. of cooking was enough.
Everybody's so creative!!
I have a question, will this much cooking will bake the raw meat inside? I guess meat takes more heat and time to cook.
Ground meat(cow, pig, chicken, turkey) can require less cooking time than a slab of meat. Also notice how thin the meat is. The thinner the meat the less time it takes to cook it.🤷🏼♂️ I figured it out growing up and learning how to cook in the 1960's.
