As someone who does production work the Radeon VII was well worth the money. What’s disappointing is that they let it end so soon as we’ve been thinking of getting more for future projects as we scale. They’re so hard to find new.

I am currently using the rx 5700 xt and I am very pleased with it. While running GTAV at 1080p max graphics, it runs smoothly and peaks at 70~80 degrees Celsius.
Enjoyable video, and I am DEEPLY relieved that I didn't buy a disappointment last night (when replacing my 2012 rig with a 2013 gpu...). Just a nitpick - manually set your focus for doing those long traversing shots across a range of products (eg. 4:25) so that the camera autofocus doesn't snap to each product suddenly (jarringly) during the smooth movement. I dunno if I used the right words tbh, I'm not a videographer and I'm barely able to hold a dSLR and know what the settings mean, but it was just something that popped out at me while watching.
I bought mine new 18+ months ago and am still in love with it. Someone please tell me how a 2080 Super could perform the same in games using 9.5GB+ of VRAM. I laugh at 2080 Super in 1080Ti!
Yeah, kind of. For a good price and with a decent amount of warranty: Yes, But judging by average prices on ebay (sold listings), it's more expensive than a 5700XT and comes with the few risks of buying used besides having less (or no) warranty. The 1080ti is better than the 5700XT, but not so much that I would just give out a general advice to buy the 1080ti over the 5700XT. I've bought my old 980ti Hybrid, all of my RAM in the last 10 years and a 4790K, R7 1700, (plus mobos) and countless of hardware for family/friends used in recent years, but right now it's a weird time for used GPUs to be honest. Especially the 5700 series offers such great price/performance, that it's not easy to find good used deals for the older generations in that price and/or performance range. For the
This is so depressing. Here it is 2020 and I'm looking at a $700 2080 Super or a $500 2070 Super and essentially it's 1080 Ti performance from 2016 with RTX. I suppose any is a good upgrade from my GTX 980, but doesn't make me feel like I am not simply upgrading to a 2016 performance level card that just happens to have RTX.
Too many people complain about driver problems just based off of videos where specific reviewers had problems, I never had a problem since the day it came out (bought it that day too). The only problem I had was a random freezing of my system in Modern Warfare and computer crashes with specifically Continuum 2.0 shaders in Minecraft, all of which were resolved in the latest drivers. No I haven't had overheating, it's not loud, and it's the blower-style reference card with the sick dent. Sorry for the rant, I just don't like people hating this card for few problems that few people had.
Best overall gpu: 5700xt (Nitro+) ✅ Best overall case: Phanteks P400A ✅ Best overall CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 ✅ Thank you GN for your reviews and help into building my rig 👍
I wish you gave AMD a little more smack for putting artificial limitations on the non-XT card. Factually speaking yes that does make the 5700 a cute project card, but AMD deserves a little slap there.
Same here, no issues other than my pc randomly crashed under certain loads which was fixed and no longer occurs (seemed to be more of a motherboard update fix actually)
Tat's what I stopped on, but there's literally only two places you can buy them in my country so I hope I can snatch one in a couple of months when I am ready to go with the build. I can tell my rig is struggling when even playing Fallen Jedi. Need more ram and a better processor, but the motherboard gotta be right first!
Still love my Radeon VII. Nothing in its price touched/touches it in scientific compute workloads. 16GB of HBM2, for number crunching it is the best "consumer" card you could have bought in 2019. I understand this is "Gamers" Nexus but not all computers are "gaming" computers. There is a reason the new Mac Pro has basically the Radeon VII in it. It is a BEAST of a card for the price.
Thanks for the summary Steve! Too many products this year; I am normally a well informed consumer and do alot of product research but this year has been hell keeping up and trying to recommend good products to people, this video really helps narrow things down and makes things simple enough that I'm confident in my recommendations and how these people are better served by a certain product and explaining why certain cards are pointless. Thanks thanks thanks!!!!
I got the Red Dragon XT model and while the 1st card i got was defective, the 2nd one Amazon sent me has been kicking ass and taking names! I know most you would've went with the Red Devil but, I'm very happy to not have excessive RGB in my rig. Thanks Steve great roundup video!
Biggest Dissapointment is that 2080ti still cost more than 1300euro which is more than the most people pay for the rest of their pc. I build a new PC next year and i have the money to get a 2080ti but there is no reason to pay that price so i will not.
I'm very happy to see some budget GPUs being optimized for 1080p settings at even High graphics. Especially with energy efficiency. I appreciate smaller builds now, with much smaller energy footprints. It saves power for other things, and I don't have to worry about random circuit breaker issues in winter (heaters cost a lot of energy). In this way I can get better quality monitors/TVs and play games clear with higher Hertz and still have clear image quality. I've been using a 1660 Ti (which isn't budget per se, but very energy efficient for the power) recently and it's nice being able to take my PC to a friend's house or otherwise with no fuss. I can even transfer it between rooms with little effort. I'm very excited for the mini-console style PC builds that might be possible in the future, so long as they still let me mod my build, we cool.
I agree man. I bought two RX590's for $180 each on Black Friday. Your deal was better haha. But for what I play, I see no reason to go out and spend a crazy amount of money on a GPU.
If you buy used hardware, you could get even better deals. Especially when people upgrade from older enthusiast builds during Black Friday or Boxing Day... I picked up a used GTX 1070Ti for $200 USD. Performs like a ~$400 RTX 2060 AND has more Vram.
I don't have one yet but it's the most compelling card to buy in 2019. The 2070 regular might have been expensive at its launch but the 2070s is the same price as it was launched at and has significantly better performance.
@@albino_gringo1912 *£40, and it is worth it for ray tracing in Metro Exodus alone, as I said. Buyer's remorse is generally wasted emotion. I am happy with my purchase.

They may not have retooled the offending GPU to achieve the better performance you were able to squeeze out of it... but they deserve some credit for their relatively quick attempt to fix the issues you pointed out, as well as flying some of their team over to actually listen to your criticisms in detail.
I went with a used Sapphire Nitro RX 580 8GB for 119.00. As much as I wanted to get a 5700, monitor restrictions (144hz doesn't have display port or HDMI 2) and a price point that just can't be argued with pushed me to get this card.
I was choosing between 5700xt and 2070s, while I really wanted to pick up the 5700xt, cause on paper it's amazing value, so many people around that got one run into issues with the drivers. I eventually payed extra and grabbed the 2070s from EVGA. Once AMD sort their driver issues out and maybe make some 2080TI alternative I'll look into their products again.

While I agree that the 2080S was a disappointing refresh of the 2080 compared to the 2070S in particular, it was a pleasant arrival for me as I did my 3900X build this summer. I paid 2080 prices for a (moderately) faster card (2080 prices only started to consistently drop around here a few months later) and OCed it further (that new VRAM is underclocked in stock configuration and has tons of headroom to go further). It's in a nice sweetspot of performance for ultrawide 1440p monitors like my new one. Enough grunt to keep up with the monitor but without the 2080Ti's price.

II) I saved a wishlist of 13 different parts to hopefully buy on this black friday on amazon.
III) Amazon discounted none of them.
IV) ryzen 5 3600 even went UP in price.
V) The better 5700XT are already out of stock.
Great fun.
Yeah black friday was a shitshow.
@@loganbogan9 that's pretty incredible, they must have had huge margins if they can do that. Sadly in Europe tech is so much more expensive.
And I still have not upgraded because of how sad I was about that. I've started looking back into it now because I want to play RE2 at a decent level, but in fact each day something else is going out of stock (GPU, CPU, m2 SSDs, even cases and the apparently only b450 motherboard with integrated wifi i.e. MSI gaming carbon) so I'll probably have to wait after christmas. And to top it all, amd's 2020 edition drivers are currently a disaster, to the point I'm wondering whether I should even buy the 5700 xt in the first place, even though it's price-to-performance on paper is miles ahead.

It’s nice to see a mostly even sprinkle of AMD and NVIDIA in there. Good competition.
As someone who does production work the Radeon VII was well worth the money. What’s disappointing is that they let it end so soon as we’ve been thinking of getting more for future projects as we scale. They’re so hard to find new.

Truth. AMD needs a buttkick
