@@pacifistduck9615 I am a fan of tech, the companies don't matter, the competition does. Anyone who is a fan of tech should want all of the companies to do well since that is what drives technology, variety and quality, and also hopefully keeps prices under control. We would all be better off if AMD, intel, and Nvidia were not the only major players, and if fanboys didn't exist.
I feel that! I’ve been squeezing all I can from my 9900k, delidded and all-core overclocked to 5.0 - 5.2ghz. Sad to see it’s not keeping up with new gen, but it should keep me going for a lil while
I would really love to see a new benchmark for those turn based strategy games you mentioned in the vid, where instead of measuring fps, you could measure turn times, which from personal experience is much more important. I think it would bring something fresh to the lineup of games
I would like the same as I'm looking to play Warhammer 3 a lot more when they finally get round to fleshing out immortal empires. I currently have a 9700K with 2070 super at 1080p and am looking to upgrade to 1440p. I'm hoping I can get some decent performance boost upgrading just cpu to 13700K for example.
Dude...I just noticed the vertical blue bar countdown timer for your performance charts. The attention to detail and viewer care of this channel is truly next-level.
I have been in the PC business for 30 years... there has never been a better time to choose a cpu. The options are plenty, good, and not many sacrifices needed. The fact that I can do my 3D work and render complex projects on the same computer that I use to game is nuts. You used to have to choose one or the other, while paying a LOT more.
Same here, also working with 3D and rendering. Got the 13900K, but while I do game a lot, that was by no means my reason for getting it (as a 13600K would be plenty powerful for that). My 3D program of choice is exclusively cpu-based render so the massive core count and threads of the 13900K basically makes it a budget version of a last gen threadripper-spec cpu for non-enterprise use. The fact that it also scores best in gaming just means I have a valid reason to also consider a gpu upgrade sometime in the future
I agree...I am finally building a powerhouse desktop PC that can not only handle gaming but everything I need as an IT professional who runs a ton of VMs. I am building a custom loop with Asus Crosshair Extreme motherboard, 7950x and a 4090. Two 4tb nvme drives (adding another two when gen 5 drives are readily available). I have 4 thunderbolt 4 ports and 60w fast charging capability on the front panel which helps with my Ultrabooks. 128gb of DDR5 memory is running beautifully at 6000mhz. Finally I have a PC that can do everything I dreamed of for years.
@@DarkWidget Aside video cards, that happen to be overpriced atm. Everything else is stupid cheap with a little perspective. I had over 15 cpus over the past 3 decades, I payed anywhere from 600 dollars to 2000 dollars for them (adjusted to inflation it would be a lot more in most cases). The most expensive ones could not even game properly. Now anyone can buy a 600 dollar cpu that is stellar for both work and gaming. That was unimaginable until Ryzen gave the cpu market new life. I can give more examples, but at least from my perspective... it has never been better.
@@GSP-76 Exactly! Is a dream come true to be a professional now. I remember paying close to 6 grand for a full PC 15 years ago that could only do one thing properly... render. Adjusting for inflation that should be over 10k. You are getting a beast that can do it all for much less.
Going from a 3600x to a 5700x was a solid upgrade. I have it paired with a 3080 at 1440p. I noticed better 1% and average frames go up and games were overall smoother. It was a simple drop in and bios update. This cpu will hold me over until AMD releases 3DVcache cpus on AM5
The efficiency aspect is really nice for us Small-Form-Factor folks! Literally every CPU and GPU in my household is undervolted or has its power target reduced. Its amazing by how much you can reduce power (and with that heat) just by being willing to maybe loose a few percent performance.
you know i love this guy insted of just dragging on the video or putting the impotent stuff at the end or scaterd around he how want people mostly want and after saying what he needs to he got straight to the point love this
The AMD 5000 series prices are crazy. It was about a year ago that a friend needed a drop in AM4 CPU fast. We went to Best Buy and the only CPU they had in the store was a 5800X. He paid $430 USD plus tax for it. His 3600X was still under warranty and he recovered some of the cost after they sent him the replacement. Surprisingly, the turn around was only about 3 weeks.
Agreed, X3D is a great value. An amazing CPU for gaming at 4k due to its impressive 1% lows. Also saves AM4 users from having to upgrade for a while longer. I'd like to wait until the next iteration of AM5 & X3D before adopting the platform.
The big problem about AMD right now is the new motherboard price,in the past you can get a x570 motherboard for 200 buck cad that features sli support, now you pay 300 for a b series motherboard
If you are "gaming" and not really using all the "raw data processing power" then Consider Longevity when Intel swaps out their socket in a year or two and AMD is still supporting the AM5 platform for .. well .. a REALLY long time (based on AM4 support which even at "end-of-life" is STILL being supported) .. I got tired of buying "all new" for Intel every other year .. unless you just need that "newest raw power" and "money is no object" .. and even then, go with AMD .. lol .. they are kicking Intel's fanny in the "professional-use" market ..
@@fatherguse9019 This video along with many other professional testing says otherwise. 13th gen is kicking AMD's fanny as you put it. Not to mention 12th gen held the king spot for quite awhile the past year or so. It's no competition anymore. AMD will always just be an edgy fanboy's lover CPU.
@@setha7398 Really, dude? We all have AMD to thank for having such high core cpus these days. If it were up to Intel, we'd all still be on 4 core chips and getting little 5% performance upgrades every year. Yeah, Intel 13th is top of the mountain at the moment because it's the newest, which is what happens during every new launch. And in 6 months, AMD will release 7000 series 3D chips and be on top. Then 6 months later, it'll swing back to Intel. That said, after seeing AM4, I don't know how anyone could like Intel these days. AMD owners have been able to upgrade to every new chip, while Intel requires a board upgrade every new chip. Maybe, if you're lucky, you get one cpu upgrade out of Intel. And this is coming from a former Intel user. I always loved them, but last year, I went AMD and never looked back. The high entry cost sucks at the moment, but with the recent price cuts and the fact that AM5 will probably be supported for the next 4-5 years makes AMD a no-brainer in the long run. Not to mention, AMD actually tries to innovate and upgrade their technology. Intel just pumps more watts into their chips and adds wimpy e-cores to try and keep their core counts high. And what are we on now for Intel, 10++++++ nm? Pathetic.
Really unfortunate about the 5800X3D's availability issues. It's an absolute monster of a gaming CPU that is a no brainer for those on the AM4 platform.
Just a few days ago i upgraded from a Ryzen 7 2700 (non X) to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D for 350€. Availability is actually still quite good in germany by the way.
I was also hoping for that category, but as shown in the individual reviews, different productivity applications tend mix up the charts based on how the application loads the cpu and it seems to be pretty close between the i9 and 7950x. So with the price decrease the 7950x is looking like it makes more sense to me.
@@-opus indeed, and realistically if your in-game fps exceeds a 144hz monitor, how much more do you need outside of semi-professional gaming anyways. I'd at least like to see some common productivity awards included, as things like streaming (and thus video editing too to an extend), and 3D modelling etc gets more common among common users and not just large enterprise companies. I mix my pc for 3D work and gaming, and while the 13900K scored the "best gamer" award, the only reason I got it over the 13600K was because of its productivity value in 3D rendering etc.
I am a bit of an AMD fanboy but if I was building today i really think the 13600k is very impressive and would probably be my choice. That being said I have not experienced the new E core P core architecture, and I do wonder if it may introduce some odd behaviour.
The 13600K is better overall for sure, but if all you do is game... the 7600X is 5% faster (even more if you use DDR4 with the 13600K). Having said that, I believe the 7700X at 350 is the best overall option at that price range. You get top gaming performance (only 2-5% slower than 13900K), great mt performance, and has good efficiency (cheaper psu and cooling needed). Aside from the fact that am5 will have several generations worth of upgrades. Either way, great CPUs, you will be happy no matter what.
@@facundoorzabal8021 You should consider switching the k's in the 7700 and 7600 since those mean the older 7th gen Intel and not the AM5 Zen4 AMD CPUs.
Totally agreed. If I do my build soon, that's probably what I'll choose. However, I'm very hopeful to see the new AMD X3D chips that should be coming in a few months. I'm going to try to wait for them. Because if they can give a 20% or more increase to gaming like the 5800x3D did, that will be very exciting.

My favourite cpu of the year is definitely the 5800x3d.... I'm not interested in the next gen ones yet. Maybe in a few years I might be interested in a new platform but my AM4 rig is fine.
I upgraded from 1700 to 5700X for the exact reasons mentioned in this video. Absolutely amazing. I have a 5800X sitting right next to it and honestly I don't notice the difference between the two. Best thing, the woeful cooler that came with the 1700 works fine on the 5700X - even when stressing it at 100% for the entire weekend.
The 5700x is a more efficient 5800x with basically the same performance. Its a great cpu and I'm glad I upgraded to it as well. I have my wraith spire from my 3600x cooling it and it surprisingly handles it well!

The reason it's not in this chart is because the 3d vcache only helps in a few games. In the vast majority of situations it's barely better than a 5800x. It has lower clocks and cannot be overclocked
@@itstheweirdguy fake news. the reason it wasnt in this chart, and GN said it himself, is because at the time of his review, they weren't many readily available. also, hardware unboxed did a 41 game benchmark between both chips and on average the 5800x3d was 15% faster. I upgraded from my 2600x to 5600 because it was on a mad sale in my country, looked at 5600x but it was (equivalent of) $60 more for just a little bit more speed. 5700(x) was out of the question for my budget unfortunately. I'm still happy Edit: talkin about ryzen 5*

5600 wins my personal best value cpu of 2022 in terms of price to performance at the price it was going for in late 2022 going for as low as $160cad. Also the 5500 dropped to a really attractive price as it could be had for $99cad. Intel had no answer as they tend to have much if any sales.
Whoever said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results has obviously never had to reboot a computer.
Bought parts for an i7-13700K with DDR5. Still need to finalize a Graphics card and Power Supply. Trying to decide if 850W will be enough if I get a 7900XTX.
That's more than enough for gaming. Unless you're trying to run 100% load benchmarks on both cpu and Gpu for hours straight you will never break 600w peak draw
had a 3700x paired with my 3080ti and later switched it out with a 5800x3d and saw a huge performance uplift. playing cyberpunk ultra settings 1440p at 60fps with RTX on is an enjoyable experience
Ryzen 5 5600 really should have been the budget CPU winner, but maybe this list was made before the huge sale happened. The i3 -12100F is kind of weak, it being i3 makes me think it's a bottleneck. While the Ryzen 5 5600 looks like it can perform next to any CPU all the way to the top unless you are doing extreme tasks. 5600 can basically reach similar performance to other CPU as long as the GPU is good.
Best budget CPU right now (Nov24) is the Ryzen 5 5600 for $118. Also, paying almost double for 5700x doesnt sound that good, considering the results on the graphs on this video.
9:40 I recently turned SMT off for my 3950X and the peak power went from about 160W to 100W. This is great, since while I do use a lot of the cores, I rarely actually stressed all of them and the difference in performance for those applications that do use all the cores is pretty much negligible.
I love Eco mode, I was running 5900x at 95W previously and have now manually adjusted to 89W with very slight multicore losses for loads better cooling. Not sure I am at the sweet spot in terms of performance but looking great now.
I appreciate how you all continue to base your recommendations around real world use cases of the hardware. It makes purchasing decisions a lot more scientific

Just started the process of upgrading from an i7 2600 (circa 2011) to the R5 7600X.. major upgrade. My only reason for not going for the much cheaper 5000 series Ryzen or even back to Intel is upgrade-ability. AM4 is at the end of the road for that whereas AM5 is just beginning. And Intel? Well they do a lot of things well, but future compatibility was never one of them.. And that's coming from a long time Intel customer. I'm hoping for a very long life out of this system just like my i7 2600 system.
I have an i7-2600 that I've had for nearly 11 years also. It certainly will be interesting to see how the 7600X will perform over time. I don't think it will hold up as long as the i7-2600 because it's not top of the line today, like how the 2600 was in in 2011. Sure I think there was a 2750? that released a little later with a small frequency boost, but the 2600 was near the top. As for upgradeability, my hope when upgrading is that I will be able to keep my computer around for another 10+ years. I do understand the perspective of going lower to mid range at first, then upgrading every few years, but in the long run I'd rather have the top end, or near top end to begin with.
@@mintymus All very true, and my thought process too. The prices being what they are i can't afford top of the line anymore, not when you add GPUS and all that, but my hope is that this AM5 compatibility will remain long enough so I can put a brand new CPU on a 5 year old MOBO in the future.

@@JosephKarthic The performance is excellent! It's a huge improvement over my 9700K. Actually being able to use the full capacity of a 3080 now makes a difference in gaming. I don't do a ton of dedicated CPU tasks like video rendering, another reason i wouldn't need the 13700K, but from the few instances I did it was day and night improvment.
I managed to snipe down a $299 5800X3D (new with 3 year warranty) and my God, is this CPU a beast. I don't see changing it for the next at least 2 gens of CPUs. The most impressive part about it is the absolutely monstrous numbers of 1% and 0.1% lows. It basically ALWAYS runs at average FPS. Only downside - it needs a really good cooler, but managed to find a $80 EVGA CLC 280 RGB. Absolutely astonishing deals this year on hardware. And considering stuff like rtx 3070 can already be found for under $350 used, I'm quite optimistic for the GPUs as well.
@@tilapiadave3234 Considering i bought it in Europe ($299 was about €278) where the price at that time it was going for way above €500 everywhere else and even now IF you can find any stock it's at best €350, again not dollars, i still think it's the best thing you can buy if you were already in AM4 platform. @@QuantumS1ngularity Over rated SUPER over hyped by a small group CULT Amd shills. r5 5600 ( non x ) makes a LOT more sense at less than half the price
The lack of any real HEDT CPU's this time around sucks since PCIE lanes are pretty sparse in the lineup we've got right now. It's a pretty unexpected issue for someone looking to upgrade from 2017's X299 processors that are nearing 6 years old. It's especially problematic that, even though we're at PCIE 5.0 support, realistically most expansion cards, GPU's, really anything you'd use won't be able to take advantage of the extra bandwidth because they're still at 3.0 or 4.0. With less lanes available (Using 1x lane per device now, probably), it's possible you could expect a noticeable performance decrease, especially with large amounts of IO.
I always find it interesting how living in a different country totally changes which CPUs are the best to buy. For example the 7600x is 100€ cheaper than the 13600k in Germany, which makes it instantly a much better buy. I know you already mentioned that you didn't calculate in the recent price drop, but I still have some constructive Criticism. I think because you never know what the prices are for the people watching the videos, you should do the following: Tell you recommendation like you did, but also mention on which prices you base your recommendation on. For example we recommend the 13600k over the 7600x, because those are the current price, which makes the 13600k the obvious choice. And then you should also mention what could change the recommendation. For example say, but if those two CPU were the same price then you should actually take this CPU. I think that would make the Video mich more valuable for people outside of north America, because for example European price often are very very different from USA prices. I hope you understand what I mean. I love your videos and always find them super helpful. I just watched the end of the video and I really like that you talked more about the prices. My point still stands, because it's better to do that for every CPU where Value matters, because you never know what the prices are in other regions.
Thanks for the video. Unlike many who only test gaming performance, and Cinebench, your insight is more concise and useful. It appears that a 5800x3D is the choice for those who already have AM4 setups, and the 13600k for new rigs. Both are great for their prices and performances. Happy Thanksgiving!

While paying alot more? 😅
Pretty much everything has literally doubled in price 😅

Pathetic.

Would be great to see productivity as a category
Would ideally always be an inclusion, most of the fps stats are so over the top these days that they almost seem redundant to me.
I was also hoping for that category, but as shown in the individual reviews, different productivity applications tend mix up the charts based on how the application loads the cpu and it seems to be pretty close between the i9 and 7950x. So with the price decrease the 7950x is looking like it makes more sense to me.

the latest system too )
Greetings Pelle
This video came at the perfect time for my recommended, I'm finally upgrading my old system to get into more current hardware and I can't wait. Great video as always. Coming from a 7700k which to its credit has served me well the new performance is much desired.
Starting a new build myself after 8 years. Had a 4690k. Ordered a 6750xt last week for $420. No idea what cpu to get lol.
I feel ya I’m Upgrading from an i3 7100
Same as I am doing, coming from a 7700k. Thinking about amd now, great Value and performance.
@@LeoN-pl4dc I ordered a 5700x for $190.
Upgrading from a 2500k. Great this came out since I'm out of touch
I upgraded from my 2600x to 5600 because it was on a mad sale in my country, looked at 5600x but it was (equivalent of) $60 more for just a little bit more speed. 5700(x) was out of the question for my budget unfortunately. I'm still happy
Edit: talkin about ryzen 5*
Is it worth it? I'm looking to upgrade and I have a 2600 old so basically a better 2600x
@@RichardMontgomeryYT Depends on your use case, but I upgraded from 2600 to 5600 like 2 weeks ago and the difference is significant. I also got it on sale (152 EUR incl. tax) and it included a promo key for Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves. Great value imo. Paired with RTX 3080 the fps gain is 15-50% (depending on title).
@@Shadefury did exactly the same, bought it few weeks ago (with the uncharted coupon) and installed it last week
pretty decent upgrade for that price that you really can feel even during normal stuff like browsing....my vivaldi is so fast now compared to 2600x and I haven't even tune the system, the 5600x has much better memory controller so I am sure I can still tune my ram
I upgraded my nephew, friend and myself with the 5600, all of us with 5 year old builds. Now we'll be able to buy mid-range GPUs over the next year or so and have brand new computers essentially.
Thank you so much for the video, very useful. 💖
No mention of the R5 5600, it was the best selling CPU a few weeks ago. On sale everywhere for $130 down from $200.
just bought a 5600g for 120, AMD are killing it with value.
@@fireemblemaddict128not to mention future upgrade to ryzen 9 via the am4 platform
Best budget CPU right now (Nov24) is the Ryzen 5 5600 for $118.
Also, paying almost double for 5700x doesnt sound that good, considering the results on the graphs on this video.
Happy thanksgiving GN, and thank you for all that you do!
9:40 I recently turned SMT off for my 3950X and the peak power went from about 160W to 100W. This is great, since while I do use a lot of the cores, I rarely actually stressed all of them and the difference in performance for those applications that do use all the cores is pretty much negligible.
Sadly, S3 does not work when you disable SMT in Ryzen.
Just use Eco mode
I love Eco mode, I was running 5900x at 95W previously and have now manually adjusted to 89W with very slight multicore losses for loads better cooling. Not sure I am at the sweet spot in terms of performance but looking great now.
I appreciate how you all continue to base your recommendations around real world use cases of the hardware. It makes purchasing decisions a lot more scientific
If argue real world use cases makes it less scientific.
The Ryzen 5 5600 is on sale on Amazon for 118. Great budget upgrade if you already own an AM4 board.
I love my 7700x. it's great for gaming in 4k in MSFS and xplane. got it for $350.
Having just bought a 13600k, thank you for validating my purchase choice! Happy Thanksgiving GN Team.
ryzen 5600 is going for about $130 now, might be worth considering over the 12100

What GPU did you have before? You should have went with the 5700X. The higher cache will make a big difference.
@@ForAnAngel Zen 4's Ryzen 7 7700X makes the 5700X irrelevant. No integrated graphics on the processor always has been dumb.
Cache doesn't tell the whole story, IPC is more important.
@@saricubra2867 For people upgrading from from Zen 1, the 5700X is not irrelevant. If he already had a GPU, which is likely since the 1300X didn't have integrated graphics either, then going to the 5700X would've made more sense than going to the 5700G. And since the 5700X and 5700G both have the same IPC, the cache difference would make the 5700X much faster than the 5700G.

@@ForAnAngel From a Ryzen 7 1700 to a 5900X, you get over the twice the fps on Cyberpunk 2077, since the Ryzen 7 5700X is only a 8 core processor, perfomance would be far worse than a 5900X and 12700K. It lacks iGPU too so it's useless if you only want a usable PC.

you’re the only creator i trust when building my pc, thank you for all your work and research man ❤️
Just started the process of upgrading from an i7 2600 (circa 2011) to the R5 7600X.. major upgrade.
@@josephg41 I would think it will definitely last 5 years. I've been hesitant to buy anything new because I think after the performance race of the last few years they will start to focus more on performance per watt, but who knows!

Really impressed that you gave an award for most efficient. I think I'm going to order the 7950X this week, in case they do end up raising the price again later. It'll probably last me at least 6 years, like my 7700K did in my current build. It'll be the first time I've bought an AMD cpu in almost 20 years!
The big question now is: Will I be going 4090 or 7900XTX for the GPU? Will AMD beat NVidia on efficiency? How close will the 7900XTX come to the 4090 on rasterization? Dec 13th can't come soon enough!
Ahh the 7700k. That CPU was amazing dude. I remember I built my PC with it and when I was going to give it away for my current setup, I found out I had let the CPU run at 100 Celsius for about 5 years. @@joezuu I think it's probably going to just barely beat the 7080 in rasterization and price, and fall behind the 7080 in the other areas like ray tracing, encoding/decoding and OpenCL. I'm suspecting that power efficiency will also lag, due to the 6nm node on the MCD and the chiplet interconnect. But, we'll see, maybe they'll surprise us! @@robeckel4965 According to moore's law youtube: it will comfortably beat the 4080 in rastor. Will come within 15-10% of 4090 rastor. Will lag behind in raytracing, but still have 10-15% better raytracing than 3090.

480 € - MSI RX6750XT Gaming X Trio

I like the Linus impression by Steve at the beginning.
Man, I wished the 13600k was available when I built my PC a few years back. Oh well, I guess my 5900x would hold up for another 6-8 years. Intel is getting really interesting in terms of mixed workloads, considering I have an A770, it might be worth it to get an Intel CPU in the future for encoding. Just wish that Meteor lake and future releases will focus more on efficiency so they reign in heat and power consumption as I live in a tropical country.

It's certainly all a far cry from the heady days of the ASUS P9X79-E WS and X79 in general, when even the 4c 4820K had 40 lanes of 3.0. :\
I went with a 13700k and Red Devil 6950xt. Runs fantastic
