Thanks for another great video! I love how in-depth you go and appreciate your focus on useable content not just flashy video production. And although you don’t over-use reviews as an excuse to show off your chops (as some TH-cam guitarists often do) I really like hearing you play. Wish I was half as good!
I am a big fan of WestCreek…picked up 3 WC guitars in 2023:
Revenge - almost perfect out of the box except for a tone knob mislabeled as “volume” - required zero setup
333 - which needed its frets leveled and has a few minor cosmetic flaws that I chose to live with, but was otherwise set up well
Helios - which had a ridiculously tall nut and microphonic pickups (all replaced) but is downright beautiful
All 3 are solid, gorgeous guitars that are a blast to play (the latter two after only after resolving issues) but QC is definitely not consistent. Personally I don’t mind because the issues have been fixable and I really enjoy tinkering with my guitars, and WC has been very responsive to issues I pointed out, sending me replacement parts, upgraded pickups, etc. So I am definitely still a fan. But not everyone wants to waste time & money taking on a maintenance “challenge” before they can start playing with their new toy. As someone who has managed quality assurance for two different manufacturing companies in the past, I can say without a doubt that if I considered that level of quality acceptable, I wouldn’t have stayed employed for very long.
I acknowledge that factory conditions, expertise, and general quality expectations are different in China where WC makes their guitars, which is part of the trade-off we make in order to get cool toys like this in the US for such reasonable prices. And many of us, like me, are more than happy to live with that trade-off. But I also know from experience that solid QC practices generally cost a lot less than dealing with returns, customer service, and ultimately lost sales once customer expectations begin to rise with product popularity. I’ve also visited manufacturing facilities in China and have seen with my own eyes that they are as capable as any other country of producing good products. The customers just have to demand it.
So if WC is looking for customer feedback, that’s the biggest upgrade I would suggest. “Voice of the customer” campaigns are great, and keep doing that…but in my opinion as an engineer and former QC manager, don’t focus on a handful of customers providing unique feedback about their individual experiences, invest in basic quality assurance processes to ensure consistency of product going out the door so you know you’re putting good product in the customer’s hands in the first place.

Thanks so much man for your kind words and for your expertise... westcreek go this video link along with my suggestions to upgrade tuners, to have more consistent fret work from model to model, and to develop a cookie cutter QC approach so they can avoid returns in the first place. The main complaints are always, frets, tuners, and it and finish. Everything else, people change or upgrade to their specific tastes anyway...
Thanks for taking the time to write out all of that detailed info and point of view!😉

I own one of the red ones, and the main thing I took issue with was the action on the neck. I did a truss bar adjustment, and it is fine now.
A secondary issue was the volume control knob.
It would go from zero to ten in a half turn.
    I have replaced them.
Mine came with PAF chrome plated pickups and not the standard type humbuckers pictured on the site. I replaced one with a quad rail pickup at the bridge that has a whopping 18 ohms and the neck pickup I left alone because it sounds fine for now.
Eventually I will be upgrading the neck pickup to a Mayhem.
The overall guitar looks great and for me, it is a nice fit for my style of playing.
As for the price point, it was totally worth buying.

Hi J Man.. Please ask Westcreek if they actually use different woods for the veneer tops on different color revenge models.. I note that the specs as per Amazon and various other outlets state that the top material for the red model is mahogany and that of the (flame top) green model is rosewood. But, when it comes to the purple Revenge model, they simply state that is it made of 'wood" without mentioning a specific type as they do with the others. In fact, please ask if they actually use real wood veneer vs a photo finish.

    • @j-man9457
      @j-man9457  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Hey Denis... I have had 5 of these revenge models so far and in the duplicate colored models I've had the tops are clearly different.
If it was a photo the grain would always look the same....
The translation on Amazon in the description section is terrible lol...
Here is what I’ve gathered so far.
On these, the bodies are Mahogany, the necks are maple. The Fretboards are Rosewood and the tops are a thin maple veneer.
Now as for the type or grade of maple, mahogany and rosewood, that I could not tell you as that information isn’t available. But common sense would dictate that at these price, they are not using AAA grade wood 🤔😉
      Hope that helps😃

    Yo, J.
You did a great job in responding to WestCreek. This video, combined with the Comments section, will go a long way to keeping WestCreek in good standing. You know how I feel about them. I’ve never seen a company invest more in customer relations. And as you’ve proven more than once, WestCreek’s QC average is not falling behind its competition. Having said that, I do have a couple of statements to make for everyone’s benefit.
As far as my Lizard Green Revenge goes, my first fret nearest the bridge was loose. The high-E string kept getting caught under it because the frets are also cut too far from the edge of the fretboard. The frets were all cut inconsistently, but it mattered more there.
I’m glad you addressed their tuners in a universal way. They could make one huge improvement by using better tuners. That might be their most prevalent shortcoming on all of their models. And that doesn’t fall into the realm of modding to personalize. That’s just a manufacturing issue.
Another thing I would check is the fretboard inlays. WestCreek had a good way with their fretboard inlays. If they’re going to sacrifice that style, there might also be a loose inlay here or there. I only mention that because I did not care for those mammoth rectangles.
I had already told them about the value of a good finish, and that some came out too dark. The flame top is barely noticeable on my Revenge and my Helios.
    You did great.
To change the subject, I bought and installed “Ancient Silver” snakes on black knurled pot knobs on my Revenge. Dude…. LOL. so perfect. Each knob has three snakes guarding a small “emerald” in the center. lmao! Sure the emeralds are fake. So are the snakes. But dude… they look so good on the emerald Revenge. It’s hilarious. Sometimes I open the case and just look at them.

Also for gibson style fans, give Westcreek another year, and they will either be untouchable in their price range and quality, or they will fizzle away and never be hears of again. No company can remain stagnant AND be successful. You either move forward by choice, or fall backwards by design😉

The stock Helios pickups sounded rather dark and muddy by comparison… I don’t know why, since as I recall, they’re all using the same Gibson-style scale length, the same bridge and tailpiece hardware, and if anything, these pickups are hotter than the Helios.

Yeah but the Helios had chrome covered pups. These both had the exposed bobbins with no covers... like you, I prefer these to the Helios!

I bought a Westcreek Double Trouble which I really like and kept - it plays quite well after a moderate setup. There were two others that had issues that couldn't be easily fixed - that I returned. Wrote up a very detailed Amazon review that highly recommended checking them out if one were so inclined, and messaged them right afterwards. Coincidentally, they were then unavailable so either they all sold out or were pulled. Haven't heard back from Westcreek! :(

@@j-man9457 It's that Westcreek double-neck that I mentioned on some of your other posts. Granted, I'd expect it to be more of a complex build. I messaged them directly thru Amazon, and they'd responded previously with 4 new pickups after I mentioned the stock ones were microphonic. 😟

Well, they asked. To bad about the frets. I think one or two high frets is not a big deal but if you have to do it complete fret level, then forget it!
There's so much competition these days that they really have to get their act together I think.
I guess I would also agree that that color is really ugly.

It's hit or miss... 2 of my westcreeks had perfectly level frets, and 2 did not. It took very few passes to get these level. Easy job if one has the tools and the time.
