Great playing❤
Meh…a lot of muddy dog shit sounds there. Those knobs are for the switches.
@@keenedgedesigns yeah maybe spending time with different IRs on line may wake this up but as is it sucks hahaha! No the knobs don't fit on the switches. Only on the small adjustment knobs ...
@@j-man9457 I thought they were for the switches because there’s a company I get knobs from that sells something that looks like that with a set screw that fits over the button.
@@keenedgedesigns yeah I know what you mean! The opening on the underside of these won't fit the switches for sure... It would make more sense if they were for the switches ...
As always, your playing makes all things sound awesome!! The Musi’ had more umph! So was the switch a positive for YOU? Thx for exploring!
@@guitarzan0515 hey Thanks! I think If you want to upgrade the stock pups in the Musi, it's not gonna make much difference unless your gonna go, Joe Bardens or, Bare Knuckle, or Fralins etc... the stock pups are on par with any 100$ set of pickups out there in my opinion...😀
I thought the musi neck sounded hollow on the clean tone. Also thought the bridge sounded like a humbucker instead of a single coil. But otherwise on the rest I didn't hear much of a difference. But I did think that the that on the clean tone the next sounded better for the Tex-Mex.
@@allenyoung6337 cool man thanks! Yeah opinions vary for sure... Personally I think if you're gonna bother swapping the original pups in the Musi, it's gonna take more than a 100$ set to make a noticeably clear difference!😀
What happened to the M-Musis? My Virgo Classic is so good I gave it a set of Bardens! Recently I went looking to see if they had any new models and I couldn’t find them anywhere!
@@timfarney4770 hey I put Bardens in my Black Virgo classic too! I hear they are out of stock in North America. I heard production was stopped as they are moving to a bigger facility. Apparently they will have new models including Gibson style guitars when they resume production... Time will tell🤞
Sounds like his wife made him return it
@@JS-po9yt hahaha I’ve gotten that suggestion alot lol!
This guitar brought out your inner rocker, J-MAN. It's the pointiness. You'd have to be careful with it onstage though, not to stab somebody. I was never into the super pointy guitars. This Westcreek sounds good though, looks like fun to play once you got it setup nicely. I could go for a more conservative finish with some color choices.
@@markpell8979 hahaha thanks! Yeah not my style for sure lol, but surprisingly easy and comfortable to play!
The modded Eart has more eart(h) i.e. more low end and still with good freq range. In short, it's ballsy! I like the modded sound more than the standard Eart for sure. Good job.
@@robjones7725 thanks man. Yeah the stock EART components are very cheap. This was one of the first one to reach Canada. Maybe the newer models are better, but the stock electronics in these 2 were pretty basic for sure...
Close but NO cigar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@theguitarprofessionals8584 personally I think if you're going to bother upgrading the stock Musi pickups your going to need something better than TEX MEX pickups 😜
yeah man those english pick ups where they make a stones set
I've been checking Amazon...M-Musi guitars are not currently availaible.....
@@OpenRoadBandMo yeah I've heard... No stock in North America... Apparently Music is currently getting set up in a newer, bigger production plant when they resume production, they are supposed to have new models in their offerings including G - Style models ... Time will tell 🤞
@@j-man9457 Thanks for the info!
Damn right. Good video.
@@Oodle-ox2vf thank you, much appreciated!
I don't buy expensive guitars any more. Been playing for over 60 years. I mod a lot, and can achieve a high standard from a "budget guitar" for much less than the stupid prices people pay for imaginary tone wood etc. If you set a Squier up just the same as a custom shop Fender, replacing the bad bits, logically it will play just as well, there is NO magic. The difference is in the set up. Pickups are personal preference, not "good and bad" I still pay good money for acoustics, coz it has to sound good on it's own, but a solid electric is not worth the money.
@@Oodle-ox2vf I hear ya man!
to my ears, the text mex has better articulation in the high mid range where it counts. thanks for posting this. I love your videos. I love Musi guitars.
@@guitorb thanks man! Nice pickups for sure, just not sure this little difference over the stock pickups is worth 115$ 🤔
By the time you get done with all the expense of the mods...you might as well find a Fender Tele on sale. Most of us don't have the shop skills to alter guitars the way you do. And cerrtainly not your playing kills. Many of us live in palces where there aren't that many places to go out and play. Omaha sucks!
@@GaryArmstrongmacgh hey Gary, even with the pickups this guitar was only 400$ CAD. Most people think Fender is better, but really, here in Canada, on a 1000$ Fender, I'd be changing stock pickups too... Plus with the fender, the neck isn't Roasted, the frets are not SS, the cavities are not shielded and the body does not have all the contours. For 400$, you can't beat these Music teles for the features, that's why I have 5 of them haha! I understand that some guitar work is tricky but changing pickups in a tele is super easy. Only 4 wires to solder. Cheers man, and thanks for commenting! 👍
Hmm ... very interesting 🤔 Id like to chk one out (Squire tele, me) New ones sound better 💯
@@allenmahan9393 cool thanks!
I saw that guitar the same way you saw it with one exception. The pickups needed to be adjusted so the bass side volume and the treble side volume was the same level. Then the Bridge pickup was not balanced with the neck pickup and that caused a massive volume difference between the bridge and neck. Five minutes of adjustment of the pickups and it would be perfect. Also, I'm never impressed with locking tuners. They aren't better, they are just faster to restring and then the strings break because there aren't enough wraps around the post.
@@pageveazey9874 Hey yup did all of that after the demo... Guitar was out of the box as received for the demo at the start! Yeah I like looking tuners because of the simple fact you can back up the wheel on the back side and lubricate the gears for smooth operation. You can't service or lubricate sealed tuners! I still wrap my strings around the post with locking tuners 😀
@@j-man9457 I'm a bit like you. 60 years as a guitarist and about 20 years as a guitar tech. The average Joe just pushes the strings through the hole and locks the string too tight and tunes. They just don't understand that they still need at least a couple of wraps. It was a good video.
@@pageveazey9874 thanks man! Yup wrap is good! 😊
Very nice project, J-MAN. I'd like one just like it.
@@markpell8979 super fun build! Just sold it actually. It's new home will be in Houston Texas!!!
@@j-man9457 Interesting it's coming all the way from Canada to Texas. I'm in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
@@markpell8979 wow! Yeah that is pretty interesting! 😀
Good for live gig. Bui a bit messy on backing tracks because it does not have a master volume
I don't know about you calling that Gibson les Paul a tele, i don't care if the body looks like a strat, that's not my problem i just don't think it's right that your calling an obvious les paul a tele, your not tricking me one bit there chief.
@@jimmyjennings4089 ??? Watch the video, before commenting. You are wrong on all counts sir. First of all, this is not a Gibson LesPaul. It is a Hard tail Strat Style from Sawtooth and it's called the ST-M24. It comes with 2 Humbucker pickups. Being that it's a hardtail and not a trem like most Strat styles guitars, I thought it would be a cool Mod project to convert it into a Hybrid Tele. It looks and feels like a Strat but has tele pickups and electronics in it, hence the title Sawtooth Hybrid Tele! Not trying to trick anyone here Jimmy! There was no mention of a Gibson LesPaul in this video, and No Gibson LesPaul was hurt during the making of this video... and you would know that if you actually watched it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great playing, lets get that out of the way first off. It seamed like a very close comparison, I felt the Tex Mex set had a broader eq at times but I don't think there was enough of a difference to swap them for at-least a set Tex Mex. Even more so if they are causing noise. Good job Musi. Good job Jay! I was expecting a easy comparison from the title but Musi stood the rounds on this one IMO.
@@VersaFireGuitars hey Buddy! Yup I agree... The difference was minor. One would need to spend more than the 115 CAD if they are looking for a significant improvement over the Musi PUs! 😉

@J-MAN. Great review. Thanks for the info. Just placed my order. How long before you received your pedal? And indeed Mark is an awesome guy to deal with. He responded very quickly!!
@@SixStringsOut took a little over a week for me to get it! Hope you like it. Rock on!
you could make a hardcase from this packaging :)
To me, the US version comes across louder at most settings. I guess that could be other factors - speaker, mics, etc. I have the US and mostly play jazz but I want to go stereo and I can't decide if I want another US or the UK. I probably can't go wrong with either - diversity is a good thing! The US is a tad cleaner and fatter for that jazz tone with the rolled off high end, but I could probably get that with adjustments on the UK. Thanks for the comparison!
I have both and run them in Stereo and they are awesome. I don't play Jazz though...
That guitar is a great mod platform. It's an aesthetically pleasing guitar to look at and initially affordable to buy. I like the sound. They have kind of that old Epiphone Casino or Gretsch Country Gent to it. I'd put a Guykey and a roller bridge on it! And better tuners. Gradually!
@@GaryArmstrongmacgh yup you can mod these to the hilt and still be under 500$ haha However with a good set up, these are great in stock form!
I've watched all of your videos now concerning the making of this guitar and I'm just about to start on mine. Thanks so much for the information. I absolutely love the body shape and I am hoping I can get mine to look just like yours by freezing your video and taking screenshots of it.
@@goog646 haha right on man! Yeah I was going for that Tele/Wolfgang vibe! Turned out great and tuning stability is fantastic! Good luck and have fun! 👍
@@j-man9457 thanks. Unfortunately, I've had a set back already 😭. I just took the pickguard off and was reminded that I did a huge swimming pool rout under there a couple of years ago, so I can't reshape the lower horn like yours unless I fill in the missing timber somehow, or get another telecaster body. And I don't really want to fill in the missing timber because I wanted to do a burnt orange stain rather than solid colour 😭
@@goog646 just add a custom made by you pickguard to hide the rout😃
@@j-man9457 unfortunately the rout comes to within about 9 mm of the outside edges of the guitar so if I'm going to remove 40 or so millimetres like you did from the lower horn that ain't going to work!
@@goog646 ahhh I Get What you're saying now. You could keep the body as is and just add a forearm contour and belly cut for weight reduction, then contour staining and add a nice pickguard and you're off to the races 🤔
I wonder if these pickups are used… It seems really strange to have the pickup wires be of different lengths like that. Apparently, the Tex-Mex bridge pickup truly does not have the traditional copper-plated steel baseplate-I just looked at stock pictures of it online. Very odd!
@@zuperdee yup apparently they are trying to reproduce the old Broadcaster Pickup🤔
As many have articulated the Tex-Mex just had better tonal clarity...and for some including me that's the defining factor. Of course, different strokes for different folks, you may like the price factor and sound of the Music Lily pups. My goal as a cover band guitarist is to try and give as close to the original recording as I can with the best clarity...so again, Tex-Mex for me.
TexMex?? If you gonna go...go BIG! Lollar, Fralin, NoCasters....not another budget-ish make.
@@lazvt8469 customer's guitar. Just installing what I was given. I got Joe Bardens in mine! Killer!
I love the pickups in my Musi Classic . I had to install a string tree between the B and E string , and ground the control cavity . Other than that I love this guitar just the way it is !
@@kennytamburro317 yup I Agree. I have 3 of them and on one, I installed a 380 dollar set of Joe Barden PUs the Musi PUs are already an easy 100 dollar set of pickups In my opinion😃
Interestingly the Musi guitars are all sold out!! Bet you didn't realize you were such a heavy influencer!! 😉😂 Great picking!! Tone was TIGHT on all counts!! Very nice!!! 🙏
@@Sammywhat thanks man! I heard they are moving to an upgraded plant. Once production resumes they are supposed to have G-Style offerings in their model line up! Time will tell!🤞
@@j-man9457 Good to know. Still haven't seen any left-handed as of yet. I've also been looking into Firefly's iteration. Guitars Garden dot com has some lovely guitars for the price. Similar specs. You should wire it like the original Broadcaster! Check it out. Who needs a tone knob on the neck, right? Massive tone! Positions: 1) Bridge pickup with blend option engaged to allow the neck pickup to be added with no tone control. 2) Neck pickup alone with the blend option disabled and no tone control. 3) Neck pickup alone with .047 μF tone cap engaged (fixed) and blend option disabled.
@@cataclysmicconverter hmmm interesting. Thanks!
Tex Mex against other Fender pickups sound a little thin and light but here they sound sweet, warmer
@@mrtonysantos hmmm cool man! Thanks for commenting. Yeah these sound great however not a huge difference from the Musi pickups!
There is a difference in sound but sometimes I like the Musi's better and sometimes I like the Fender's better. After listening though I don't think I would spend the money. It just doesn't sound like enough of an upgrade to justify the cost and effort.
@@tomearly111 100%. The stock musi PUs are a fantastic set. I upgraded the pickups in my black Musi to Joe Barden Modern T Gatton PUs. Definitely a difference now but those PUs were $385. 😯
@@j-man9457 What is your story? You play guitar like you have been playing professionally for a long time.
@@tomearly111 nah not a professional by any means! Just self thought. I don't know theory or how scales work... I've just learned some licks over the years and I just keep connecting them to one another to make Melodie lines for leads and stuff hahaha. I'm lost when it comes to the fret board, heck I can't even read tab lol! Yeah pretty basic here. I know enough to play in a 3 piece band at the local watering holes around where I live and that's about it. I appreciate the kind words, I've never been called a professional before 😊 Thanks and Rock on!
Tex Mex pups lack the standard Tele bridge pickup base plate. The original Broadcaster pickups didn't have base plate either and Tex Mex are kind of going for that uncompressed sound like the old Broadcasters. The base plate increases the inductance and alters the magnetic field creating that Tele tone we've come to know and love. If you slap a base plate on that Tex Mex bridge pickup, you'll get more output and a compressed tone that helps to balance the treble.
