Great video! Just an FYI for anyone interested, the scoring tool has worked for me to foil with my Explore Air 2, when set to score! I believe in the video Angie set hers to draw, so that's why she had those results, not enough pressure!
I had GREAT results using the scoring STYLUS in my Cricut Maker. It worked both on a single line writing style font and a drawing - both set to Line type = Score. You can set text to score. It worked on a single line writing font and also a free filled in style font I downloaded. Magic. It did not work very well using Line type = Draw. I used Cricut foil and set my material to Deluxe Paper and foiled onto medium cardstock. The filled in font took FOREVER to finish but looked so good. oh and I was using CDS on my ipad...which you can't do with the foil transfer tool.
Thank you SO MUCH for doing this. I have waited and not purchased the foil tool because I thought “maybe” the other tools would work... I haven’t had time to do the research, but you did all the work, and I appreciate it. Love your videos, happy crafting!!
Great test!! Very informative. I've been thinking about purchasing the debossing tool and like many others wondered if it works on the foil. Have you tested the reverse? Do you think the foil tool would work for debossing? Thanks!
Thanks Angie that was great. I do kinda like the deboss on Maker cause It gave a lil grunge look but the whole time was so stressed that the 1st three tools were gonna tear foil.. edge of my set !
I used the scoring tool on score option and it worked. I don’t understand why you used it on draw. It wouldn’t press hard enough because it thinks you are using a pen.
Additional pressure does nothing on the scoring stylus as the pressure does not affect that side of the machine. The only one it might work with is the deboss or scoring wheel but remember I said I used the kraft board setting on all of those. That is actually more pressure already then would be required for the cardstock I was using. I was so disappointed that none of them even looked like they were close to working so I quickly gave up!
For the scoring stylus you had the setting to draw. Was scoring letters not available as an option? Draw only touches the paper but scoring would apply pressure. It seems like you were able to score with the scoring wheel and most of it came out nice.
@@AngieHolden If you have an image, I think you could set it to score. Maybe something to try as it seems to work well for this person: th-cam.com/video/zrhXx8gcUVk/w-d-xo.html
Hi Angie, thanks for the comparison! Yep, definitely the right tool for the right job! LOL Did you try using the ThermoWeb Deco Foil with the Foil Tool yet? I know you were going to.
@@AngieHolden I’ve done a bunch, but I’d love to see your tutorial. It’s definitely not as easy as people think especially on round ones. I thought about using my clear vinyl, foiling on that and sticking that to the ornaments... but I’m going to try this gold leaf. I’m pouring paint in them. Some of them look beautiful, some look so splotchy!
I know you can only use draw fonts with this foil transfer kit, but is it any good at calligraphy style letters that are thicker at one point and thinner in another (like tails?) And if not is there anyway to foil and get that look?
Hey I have a question, is there a way I can change the pressure settings for my foil transfer tool to foil on matte black vinyl? I purchased it for that very reason and I didn’t do enough research before purchasing and if I can’t get it to work somehow I bought it for nothing 😕
To be honest i think if your foil was taped more taught the debossing tip would have worked better …. Ive seen people successfully foil using the scoring tool … so the results may just vary based on the foil and what its being placed on

Interesting! Thanks!
when you say "scoring tool" do you mean the scoring stylus or the scoring wheel?
@@ER-oo6vs sorry! still new to cricut and learning the terms hehe! but i mean the scoring stylus
I was thinking to use the debossing at a higher pressure
Thank u i was wondering if the pressure increased maybe then...

Great tips! I’ll be trying it on score setting
I just started watching your Cricut videos and I have to say, the ones I've seen, I love them because they are short, sweet, and to the point.
Glad you like them!
Guess it boils down to "the Right Tool for the Right Job!" Thanks, Angie! Another great video!
Yes it does!

I’m scared to watch bc I wondered if you could use another tool, but bought the foil tool last week.
Wow, that's interesting! I just got a foil transfer tool for my Explore Air 2 and I'm finding that my score tool actually works much better.
Do you use score instead of draw because that’s what I did and the scoring tool works.
@@SaraEmmaLouise Yep, exactly! I use the score setting plus the scoring tool and it works much better than the actual foil tool with the foil setting.
Yes! I think if she would have changed some settings it might have worked better .
Thank you Angie - I wondered those very questions as I have also heard others say why? You are the best!
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks Angie that was great. I do kinda like the deboss on Maker cause It gave a lil grunge look but the whole time was so stressed that the 1st three tools were gonna tear foil.. edge of my set !
HA! It is definitely "rustic" and I actually thought that one would work no problem!
On the maker I guess you could use the deboss tip if you wanted it to look weathered and worn away. But now I know I DO WANT the foiling tools.
Definitely! Thanks for watching!
I used the scoring tool on score option and it worked. I don’t understand why you used it on draw. It wouldn’t press hard enough because it thinks you are using a pen.
Thanks for the experiment! What if you took the experiment one step further and switched to more pressure with the other tools?

You can't score letters. Either draw or cut. The scoring wheel was also hit or miss.

Thank you to the moon and back because you answered every question I had. I’m a visual learner lol and this was perfect. Great job and thanks again.
You are so welcome!
Thanks for the test tutorial everyone was thinking about. Great job!!
No problem!
Love the trials you did it helps a lot and saved a lot. I ‘m really struggling to transfer foil on acrylic do you have suggestions ? Thanks
I don't think it will work on acrylic.
Thank you so much for sharing! This answered my questions
I'm so glad!
Thanks for the awesome comparison! Have you or anyone tried the foiling tool on vellum paper? What were the results?
I did here: th-cam.com/video/yhzWKt24XzA/w-d-xo.html

I have not yet! It is on my list!
@@AngieHolden Cool! Thanks!
Could you try 2 pass with debossing tip?
Thank you for doing this! I was wondering if the other tools would work. Awesome videeo!
You bet!
Thanks Angie. Great explanation!
You're so welcome!
I’ve seen people successfully use scoring stylus on score setting on explore air 2 for foiling but it looks like a very thin line.
Interesting!
Thank you for the great info.
Glad it was helpful!
Angie, can you transfer foil to leather or vinyl? Thank you
I have heard it doesn't work great on real leather but I haven't tried it myself.
Great experiment Angei
Thank you! Cheers!
Can the fine point housing be used for the foil tips, or do you have to use the blue foil housing?
You need the housing.
Whats the difrence, between the foil tool and the Foil Quil?
I do a comparison on those two here: th-cam.com/video/yhzWKt24XzA/w-d-xo.html
What if you did the deboss part twice? X
Doubtful but you could try.
Hey! Sorry, this is the only way I know how to ask you a question. Is there any way to add any of the foils to a glass (or plastic) ball ornament.
Not that I know of. You can use metallic vinyl.
@@AngieHolden I tried and didn’t have good results. I think vinyl is too thick for what I’m wanting so I’m using gold leafing..
OH that works too! I have a tutorial coming up on adding vinyl to an ornament but it may be too late for you!

My pleasure!
I have tried to look for an answer online but can you deboss then foil on top of that as decoration?
I think it would work but I haven't tried it.
Can I transfer foil on acrylic ?
Thank you.
You're welcome!
How did you cut the foil down?
The foil comes in small sheets or you can just cut with scissors.
Love the experiments!
Thanks!
I know you can only use draw fonts with this foil transfer kit, but is it any good at calligraphy style letters that are thicker at one point and thinner in another (like tails?) And if not is there anyway to foil and get that look?
It won't be great with those. You can use a calligraphy pen and write. Use a metallic one and it should be similar.
@@AngieHolden good to know thanks!

I am not positive it will stick to that at all. Try picking the thickest material setting as that should be the most pressure.
Ok thank you! Do you know which is the thickest material? I’m dead new to this 😂
I think there is a kraft board setting for foil. That would be pretty thick!
Ok thank you so much for replying!! 💜💜

Well I could not get them to work.
Cricut should make their foil with sticky tabs.
Will not work on Expression
Bummer! Did you try it? I don't have an Expression to try but I know many people were wondering about that.
Yes I tried it, it is too small won’t even hold in the housing that holds the blade housing.
😢😢
Bummer! Well, that answers that then.
The part that stops me is with the password,,, I even changed the password!, CRICUT EVEN HAS MY MONEY TWIISE THE SAME DAY FROM MY BANK account
I think you should definitely contact their customer service to get that straightened out.
Thank you
