Great video, exactly what I need to know, I like how you show each material just talking about it without wasting time on the machine. Very practical and super helpful, Thank You!!
First off, Thank you - I LOVE your instructional videos!! I just bought the deboss tool specifically for leather projects, based on Cricut description. After watching this video, & then the one for the engraving tip, I now feel I should have bought the engraving one! Will be trying my first leather project tomorrow with the deboss, so wish me luck!
I started to watch this video to learn more about engraving with leather. I haven't finished the video but was wondering which tip I should purchase for leather. Asking because maybe you have a newer video. I must say I am a beginner and really want to make tags for my crocheted blankets. Thank you in advance for your help.
I think the embossing tip will work well on veggie tanned leather ,alot stiffer and the leather you were using is more for clothing , skirts, dresses , vest , bras etc . i do alot of leather work and have many stamps and stamping tools ,. The leather you were using appears to be more that you would also use in doing linnings , small pouches and even applicates. Your videos have been good and I am learning alot for my new cricut maker that my daughter ,son in law and grand kids bought me for my birthday. keep up the good work . thanks deb in VT. .
Hi Angi. The video was very informative. I like the way you teach us how to use the Cricut products. I was very interested in the debossing, so thank you. Can you show how to emboss using Cricut as well as the powder and heat gun. I don't want to buy anything else that does embossing only. Is this possible?
I was watching another video and they said to deboss a bit deeper or thicker material, duplicate design and put them directly on top of one another and it will run through twice and give you a more visible deboss
When you use leather in your circuit you need to iron a freezer paper on for backing it acts as a temporary stabilizer that way it stays stable for debasing cutting n it should not buckle up if done correctly
Hi angie, apologies for replying to an old video but only just found your channel. Did you ever deboss onto 2mm acrylic please and if so how well did it work. I am only 3 days into owning the maker3 and wanted to make cookie debossers and embossers if possible but they need to be on wither acrylic or hard plastic (2mm thick)
Angie Holden Thank you so much for always responding to my inquiries. I returned my explorer and bought a maker. But I have a question, do I have to leave my laptop plugged into the maker?
Hi, I am wondering if this tip would work on hand made paper? In college I did a lot of letterpress on my own handmade paper and I am wondering if this would work something similar to letterpress? I am considering purchasing the Cricut Maker for cards and artwork. Thanks!
You need to use veg tanned leather to get best results. It has to be dampened so it can take the impression. Chrome tanned leather doesn't take impressions very well. Also, cover the flesh side of the leather (the fuzzy or back side) with painter's tape or shelf paper.
Well explained tutorial thanks! I tried using the debossing tool on vinyl to make stickers and I found that it tore through it even when I used Paper Sticker settings. What am I missing? Can it not do vinyl? Any tips would be most welcome.
this question may seem really dumb - but if you'd started your video describing what debossing is - that would have been helpful. I had never heard the term before. after watching your video I determined that debossing is a lighter weight engraving?
Yes in a way. Sorry about that! A deboss is an indention into the material. Where as an engrave is generally the removal of some of the material like an etch.
I watched your videos on the scoring stylus/wheel & this deboss tool. In the scoring video you scored on basswood & in this video you showed the scoring & deboss on chipwood. Have you tried them both on basswood? It looked like the deboss tool did better on the chipwood but I plan to use basswood & was wondering if the deboss tool would do better on that as well. You have ready been a tremendous help & I am grateful & look forward to your thoughts on this as well.
Thanks for the video Angie. So as I understand, you can't deboss with the scoring wheel but you can score with the deboss? I mean, if you were gonna buy only one could you make two out of one with the deboss tip and housing? I'm just a craft beginner so maybe I'm asking something silly :P
Hi, when you describe using these tools on leather could the deboss tool reduce the cutting depth of the leather so as to ease the cutting quality when using the knife blade tool or maybe the deep cut tool. I notice on both your videos on tooling that you don't quote for type of or thickness of diferent leathers.
Hi I just bought the scoring wheel combo pack, does that housing work with the engraving tip, and deboss? or i have to buy another housing? i heard someone mentioned that it'll work, just wanted to make sure.. thank you :)
Have you deboss a card and then use color on it? Love to see that for Christmas card's thank you love your video you show how well to use the tips and on what material you can use them on.
That looks like chrome tanned leather, which really won't take an impression. Try using vegetable tanned leather (which would need to be dampened before debossing).
Thank you so much for doing this video! I really hoped to get this tool to emboss my cards, so I’m so glad you let us see the backside of the cardstock. I have experimented with the embossing tutorial on here from CleverSomeday, which uses the scoring stylus. I think that method could be done with the deboss tool to get a good embossing, but I was hoping to eliminate the extra steps. Since I already have the stylus, I guess I’ll prototype my project with that.
I just want to point something out to you and everyone of the followers. I realize this video is almost a year old but one thing they never tell you about leather is that you only have a certain type of leather that will take the tooling and embossing on that level. Its called VEG TAN. The leather you are using is the type that you wet and then tie it down over something to have that raised look and feel. Debossing and embossing doesnt work very well at all with that leather. The cricut real leather is nice and all but it doesnt work that well in certain areas like this. You need to order VEG TAN leather from Weaver or Tandy or any other leather supplier if you are going to do tooling or deboss/emboss otherwise you are going to be very disappointed. If you watch fellow leather crafters you will see they never use anything else because it just doesnt really work with anything else. I hope this helps you all out.
Yes this will do something similar. If you haven't seen it, I would recommend looking at the foil tool as well: th-cam.com/video/yhzWKt24XzA/w-d-xo.html
Thanks Angie. It’s great. Just a request, can you invest in a better camera to record? This one keeps going out of focus and it is frustrating when we are trying to see what you are talking about.
You are SO awesome Angie. Your pedagogic and communicational skills are simply great. Muchas gracias!
Great video, exactly what I need to know, I like how you show each material just talking about it without wasting time on the machine. Very practical and super helpful, Thank You!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for the wonderful, simple, detailed explanation on how to use this tool. I'm headed to your next video to learn about the engraving tool.
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks! Let me know if you have success with this tip and leather!
Appreciate the well explained video. Wish I could save your video but I don't see that option.
Thank you! This video was comprehensive and really helped me understand this new Cricut tool.
Thank you so much for your tutorials! This helps so much before wasting paper and time!❤❤
Happy to help!
Hello Thank you for all the heads up …have you tried plexiglass yet? Will it work?
I don't think it would.
Am so new to the machine but I thank you I show and explain so well
Glad it was helpful!
I love your Cricut videos! They're comprehensive, quick, and so helpful! Thank you!!!
Glad you like them!

That might work actually! It would also save you mat. I might have to try that!
What is freezer paper?
That you so much for sending me this link! It really helped!
Fantastic explanation! Is it possible to use the debossing technique to deboss scripts on palm leaf?
I don't think that would work but I haven't tried it.
Thank you for the detail and the examples you include. This is so useful when you're a visual learner.
You're very welcome!
Nicely done. Lot's of good information. I will be back for more.
Awesome, thank you!
This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you!!
Glad I could help!
Will it work on acrylic? I read it’s more of a roller ball. Think of LED projects with a smoother line
For acrylic, you want the engraving tip. Try this: th-cam.com/video/F4alhlH2t3Y/w-d-xo.html

The maker will not make these. Sorry!
Fabulous video......you are a great teacher! Just got my Deboss blade today, can’t wait to try it!
Have fun!
Thank you for doing this video. I would imagine Cork and Vinyl would would very much the same as leather.
I don't think cork would work at all! I think it would tear. That would be a good test!
Which do you think would work better on foam board, debossing or engraving tip?
Not sure what type of foam board you will be using? Most of the ones I see are too thick for the Cricut.
@@AngieHolden I can use something thin. I want to use it for quilling.
I am not sure either of these tips would work on foam?
After watching several of your videos and subscribing, I just realized that you are talking about the maker. I don’t have the maker.
I have videos on all of the machines.
Angie Holden Perfect! I will be looking at your videos all week, so I will find them. But I am now thinking I need to get a Maker. Lol

Thank you! Was wondering if this would work on chipboard.
Thank you for this great video. Can I use the debossing tip for debossing text? I want a letterpress look for my wedding invitations.
You can. I don't know if it will look exactly like letterpress however.
Me too! How did you get on Sarah?
Hi, do you know if the Cricut Maker will deboss or emboss on parchment paper?
Not sure. It might work?
Well explained tutorial thanks! I tried using the debossing tool on vinyl to make stickers and I found that it tore through it even when I used Paper Sticker settings. What am I missing? Can it not do vinyl? Any tips would be most welcome.

It is this one: th-cam.com/users/angiecountrychic

I have not. I have on my list to try to do some type of engraving on basswood but I haven't gotten around to it!
Thank you so much for this video!! Can you tell me which tool to usw for embossing? And how to use it?
This would be the closest thing you are going to get to an emboss.
Is there a difference between the debossed tip and the foil transfer tool?
Yep. Try this: th-cam.com/video/P266eUAxWY4/w-d-xo.html
Could you create a rubber stamp with this tool or any other cricut tool?
I haven't found a way yet. I actually have done some research on this as I though it would be a good video to make.
Great video for beginners! Thank you!!
Thanks!
Hi, How do you "fill" a deboss outline with Cricut? I only get outlines for imported solid shapes!
You can't do a fill with Cricut.
Can deboss be mirror image and then put image on back of material to emboss??
It doesn't really deboss that much so you can't see on the back.
Thank you so much for sharing. Pat in NC
Thanks for watching!
Great information, thank you so much. Love your channel.
Thanks!
does the deboss tool work on the wood and veniers that cricut sells?
No.
Thanks for the video Angie. So as I understand, you can't deboss with the scoring wheel but you can score with the deboss? I mean, if you were gonna buy only one could you make two out of one with the deboss tip and housing? I'm just a craft beginner so maybe I'm asking something silly :P
I think that would work! Just make any score lines deboss lines!
Can I use the Deboss tip on metal military dog tags?
No. You would need to do engraving. Try this: th-cam.com/video/xGed4ytHzko/w-d-xo.html
Great tips Angie. I appreciate your info.
The deboss tool isn't going to make a difference on leather that I can see.
Can I use the deboss tip to score fold lines in a card instead of the scoring tip? Or will it be too deep and tear the cardstock?
It shouldn't tear the cardstock at all. I would say it would probably be fine but not as deep or sharp as the score line.
@@AngieHolden ok thanks. I decided to just buy the scoring tip. If I’m going to do it…want to do it right! Thanks!
Great video, very helpful, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
So the deboss tip is almost equivalent to the scoring tool?
Maybe a bit deeper?
Thank you. I learned so much.
Glad it was helpful!
thank you for this!!
Can you deboss on parchment paper?
I have not tried it.
Hi! Do you think its possible to foil a previous debossed area/drawing? Like a golden letterpress effect?
Yes! I have a video on the foil quill here that would work for that: th-cam.com/video/LLNOgcmMO54/w-d-xo.html
Does the Maker come with the housing for interchangeable tips?
No it is sold separately.
Can u use the D boss tip to add a touch of deco or some other kind of foil without heat or a quill foil?
I have seen some pressure application foil but I don't know if this has enough pressure.
Help! My debossing tool isn't debossing?? It was working just fine then stopped...? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙂
Wow. No idea? Maybe check and see if the tip is broken? Is it still sticking out?
Can you use the deboss tip and mirror your image so that it is embossed instead?
It really doesn't go deep enough to get an embossed look on the back.
I just got a cricut maker
i love your videos!
Can you use the debossed tip for folding card stock paper?
I think so!
Great video!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
thanks for the video. enjoyed to see the clarification

Yes it does!

I didn't use color on any of the deboss pieces I did. I am sure they would look amazing though!
I can find this on my I pad or is this just on a computer
I think deboss can be done on iPad but I have never actually used it on mine.
@@AngieHolden hmmm ok just the set up is different
That looks like chrome tanned leather, which really won't take an impression. Try using vegetable tanned leather (which would need to be dampened before debossing).
Definitely Glen! My plan is to do an entire post on leather and if the deboss or engrave works better. I will include wet versus dry on that one.
Metal flashing if it hasn't been suggested already.
Great video!
Thanks!
Hi can you deboss acrylic for fondant

Does the Cricket allow you to add color to the debossed area?
You could draw over the same lines with a pen.
Can you use the Deboss tip on aluminum, like dog tags?
No. The engraving tip is best for that. I cover the process in detail here: th-cam.com/video/t3DEJmUEF6k/w-d-xo.html&lc=Ugwr-lRcvqF7tlX-UCp4AaABAg
is there a different tip besides "fine"? That would do deeper lines?
Try the engraving tip. You can see more about it here: th-cam.com/video/IYm2DwmhItY/w-d-xo.html
Ty 🤗
How fine of lines can this create?
It only makes one type of line and those are in this video.

Can you deboss a word in calligraphy onto card stock?
And if you flipped the word to be backwards, and then flipped paper after would that work easily on the program for embossing?
You can deboss a word but it doesn't really show through to the back. So I don't think flipping over the cardstock is a great idea.
