That's exactly the video i needed! Thank you for your effort making this throughout comparison! I'm selling my karma grip and hero 5 and getting the hero 8 for sure!
Based on my observation., High mode seems to win most of the scenerios. Boost would be best for more Lateral movement scenarios like sports that involves running/sprinting or movements of side to side.
Yes; horizontal panning seems to be one of the few situations where you need to us boost. It also looked really good when running uphill quickly at 1:24
Wow thats the perfect camera for our Adventure Riding videos, the change between our gopro 5 and the new one with this super Hypersmooth will be crazy! Great video 🤘🏼
Loving the comparison. Greatly appreciated! Running in flip-flops is a no no though. The upside, when you fall with Hypersmooth enabled, it won't look like you're really falling :D
I haven't even tried the GoPro hero 7, and here comes this awesome creation! We all neeed this!!! Thanks man for showing us the comparison of the hypersmooth!
Wow this is good! Off is funny, on is often great, high is good everywhere except verticals! And then boost is another level!! @5:45 was only place I started to notice boost giving a little. And then a few places after that, but still so smooth!
Thanks! It seems the boost view has just too much cropping for me to be able to use POV surfing even with Superview on. In the resolution and frame rate i use the only options are On and Boost.
Thanks for that very comprehensive test ! 👍 My observations, regular HyperSmooth very good and high seems to increase the stability on roll axis. Vertical panning not so good, see 3:40, it jerks as it catches up,need to be aware when extreme panning.
It seems like it. Try covering the screen and look to each part one at a time. The vertical panning is actually smooth. Looks like it's jerking because the 4 videos are one near the other. Gonna test more with my hero 8 to confirm this :)
Interesting that there is a distinct lag effect that is more noticeable as you increase stabilization. You see it when panning left - right, up - down and also when rotating. The rotational lag appears to be the longest lasting. Thanks for this great video sir!
I noticed something, for small short movements, like vibrations, high does a better job than boost, but for huge movements, like running, boost does a better job. So it is just knowing which one works better for each situation.
Thank you for this test....it really helps showcase the different levels of stabilization. Other than some slight nausea, I am super stoked on this video....
Very usefull video. Would be nice to hear your observations. Is there a drawback using boost in e.g. field of view worse or resolution? Maybe some stills could help.
So much in depth comparison video , great job Mic , may i ask u if u recorded thos video on gopro color and auto on hero 8 ??? The colours area really good on this
Thank you a lot! great comparison and clearly your channel is one of the best. Hope you will soon also compare the GoPro Max versus the GoPro 8. Since many maybe want to spend a little bit more money and get a better camera with the new Max. Eg you don't need to buy an extra selfie screen with the Gopro 8 since this is already included in the Max. However how useful is the Max to use this also as an action cam compared to the Gopro 8?
Awesome video! Straight to the point and super informative. I’m hoping for an underwater review. I wonder which settings are optimal for scuba diving, resolutions, fps, HS lvl. Especially in some low light situations
Is this hypersmooth function something that you have to turn on or it comes ON from the factory ? Also is PROTUNE available in 4K at 60fps ? Thank you.
Does "High" depletes the battery more than just "On"? I wonder what if "high" is needed for diving/freediving/snorkeling. In those situations preserving battery life is a priority.
the only scenario that "boost" wins, imo, was the walking and running with the gopro on the chest. Because on most cases boost is identical to high (with less crop in high), and in other cases I think boost takes off some movement that you actually wanna show in the footage.
yoo hero 8 hyperamooth boost is crazy smooth, was thinking to upgrade my hero 6 to hero 8,one question does having does using boost drain ur battery? or what?
Anyone notice it is doing better of then on? Its jumping I've never seen that before. I have had the 7 for a wile now an just got the 8, 2 days ago so I haven't tested it yet.
We haoles call them "flip flops" for a specific reason; the sound they make while you're running in the various clips here. I learned that I should call them "slippers" or "slippas", so I do now. Whatever you call them, I call your videos awesome! Thanks for this!
Mr. Greene No problem! We didn’t know the locals call them slippers until we went earlier this year. I thought it was funny, but I hate to look like the rube new guy, so we started calling them slippers while there. 😂
Me: "Let me just record this earthquake."
GoPro: "What earthquake?"
Damian Jørgensen wouldn’t it be funny if you recorded rare views of an earthquake but the drama completely lost because you had it on “boost”?
@@stevepowsinger733 lol
Best demo of this on the internet by a mile! Thank you!
😄🙌🏼
Amazing comparison. Thank you.
You’re welcome!
Seems like the "high" setting is the clear winner
TumTumHero in GoPro hero 7 can I have the same “high” ?
@@felipovs1 if you smoke weeds then yes.
TumTumHero agree!
I was thinking the same thing , High look a away better
agree. High setting is enough and not so cropped too
How do you turn the boost on? Can’t find it 😅
This is absolutely insane. Can not wait to get my hands on one.
;)
I just got mine, its crazy! I can go running in the woods and get good video - no gimbal!
Honestly, the high mode looked better than the boost in many shots. Especially at 8:18
Yeah I agree!
Hyperboost 2.0 boost is perfect, it can show the perfect moments and so smooth. Perfect actioncam for every sport. I wish i had one.

I’m sure tremendous amount of work went into putting this together, very informative, Thank You!
Kamaole Beach in Kihei?? Very well done comparison video!
2:43 This was exactly the comparison I was looking for, thank you. I'm putting the Hero 8 on my race drone.
By far the best test video there is for Hypersmooth 2.0 - Thanks my dude
Anytime man! 🤙🏼
Loving the comparison. Greatly appreciated!
Running in flip-flops is a no no though. The upside, when you fall with Hypersmooth enabled, it won't look like you're really falling :D
They really out did themselves with the Hero 8. So many cool new features. Great job on this comparison. Looking forward to getting one.

Thanks, MicBergsma, for the effort into testing the GoPro's HyperSmooth!
No gimbals needed anymore just a grip and go!
Agree
@Kaspars Kalnins always a negative nancy. This is fucking amazing.
Thanks! It seems the boost view has just too much cropping for me to be able to use POV surfing even with Superview on. In the resolution and frame rate i use the only options are On and Boost.
Love your videos and reviews! If we ever come to Hawaii hope to meet you!
Awesome comparison! So cool to see the differences!
i would give you infinite thumbs up if i could! Your review here is better than aaaaaaaall of the others I've seen. I wish I saw this video first.

Your right ! What an interesting optical illusion.
I found that High is the best compromise between stabilization and crop.
Yes!
@@MicBergsma is the ON stab (not boost) in gopro8 is the same as in gopro7?
Evgeniy Shaman yes
I think just “on” is pretty good compared to “off”.

Thank you for showing all the 3 stabilization mood side by side ....... Mic Bergsma...
This video editing was awesome 🤩👍🤙

Make a video for Go Pro 7 settings for scuba diving
omg very impressive the HYpersmooth. Hoping to have a Gopro someday. A dream. Keep doing what you do.
Wow!!! You really put that thing through its paces😊
Thanks for the video. I love your tutorials.
The best comparison video out there.. 👍👍👍 my man is for the wining
We need test in low light situation
I'm sure that's at the top of Mitch's To-Do list.

Yes coming soon!
MicBergsma and we need test gopro vs sony x3000 in low light situation
8:29 the most ultimate selfie stick ever! LOL
8:20 that was some weird stuff on that Boost mode going on, Gee...
High is the best!
Excellent demonstration. Big success for GoPro designers.
Thank you for the comparison video. One question. What are the downsides of using high or boost compared to simply "off" or "on?"
I liked the high situation. Where the image appears naturally when moving move further 🤙
That is sick! Thanks for excellent experiment. Not any flufanutter!
Do a comparison with hero6/7 EIS off/on with a gimbal vs hero8 high/boost
Hey Mic! great comparison 👌 Is it better than the karma Grip with h6? I'm really happy with karma but probably i would upgrade to h8 better h9 😅
Waiting for my delivery. So excited. Goproooo 8
I already watched this one a few months ago. Very good comparison 💚
Awesome video! Straight to the point and super informative.

Very Nice post! out of curiosity, did you notice any difference in battery consumption? Success
Hai mcgyver please compare with hero 7 black for hypersmooths.many thanks.

Hypersmooth 2.0 Boost:
I'll pretend I didnt see that
In many settings, the Boost appeared more jittery than high. Should not be the case, but it is.
Is this hypersmooth function something that you have to turn on or it comes ON from the factory ? Also is PROTUNE available in 4K at 60fps ? Thank you.
Great comparison. Very thorough. Thank you. How does the 7 compare?
wow..nice comparison...let say you make video dji osmo action vs hero 8 in stablization..
3:40 why the video look choppy ?
Does "High" depletes the battery more than just "On"? I wonder what if "high" is needed for diving/freediving/snorkeling. In those situations preserving battery life is a priority.
Would be the footage where it says ON similar as the go pro 7 ?
the only scenario that "boost" wins, imo, was the walking and running with the gopro on the chest. Because on most cases boost is identical to high (with less crop in high), and in other cases I think boost takes off some movement that you actually wanna show in the footage.
SUPER MUCHAS GRACIAS , PERFECTO EXELENTE VIDEO
Hello Mic! Do you know what the impact of using hero7 or knock off batteries are? GoPro is very vague about this. Thanks!
Kudos for the effort bro! I can't imagine doing that running around with 4 cams on public 😂😂😂. But you seemed to enjoy it!
Mitch you are the best!!! This video is amazing!
Thank you for these useful tests !! "Boost" is perfect but with a higher crop than "High". So I will use both depend on the environment to capture.

Hypersmooth 2.0 boost:
yoo hero 8 hyperamooth boost is crazy smooth, was thinking to upgrade my hero 6 to hero 8,one question does having does using boost drain ur battery? or what?
This will also be a joy to UPGRADE our Camera as Im currently waiting in Line For This thing!!!!
You're awesome man.
You have incredible videos
does 60fps with boost on is more stabilize than a 24fps boost on? Or does a lower fos affects the stabilization of a gopro? Thank you.
The big question is in which resolution/framerate/100mbit/FOV-combination is "high" and "boost" available? I guess in almost none.

I had the same question
Here is go pros official settings:

Great video - people on the beach must be freaking out :)
Great testing!
What are the limitations when having boost, high and on eg fps resloution, camera angles?
Great job Mic! Boost mode looks awesome! But Isn’t that a lil bit blurry? Could you upload some raw files on WeTransfer or something?
superb comparison bro
That is a good thing from gopro to make hypersmooth in steps, wish they have elimanted the heat issues too .
great comparation video!!
Very helpful, thanks. Keep doing videos. 👌🏻
At 5:54 you can see the real cost of the hypersmooth, all three modes to the left have slightly more detail than the rightmost picture.
And again at 6:45, far more detail in the grass in the leftmost picture without any stabilisation than the rightmost picture with hypersmooth
But very useful review as always, thanks Mitch!
I think I'd still buy the 8 because of the bigger sensor size. Much improved image quality overall.
Wow thanks for the great samples, I 'm getting one!
