This one really hit home. i started following the channel as I felt somehow related as i used to play MTG and i studied actuarial science working on risk and finance; Odyssey just launched when I started playing, the very first booster was a 7th ED and i opened a birds of paradise my buddy opened a Odyssey booster and got a shadow mage infiltrator, we were in ecstasy, god those were the old times...
Same. So many cards I never would've remembered, except the art or the name jumps out to me and suddenly I remember owning this card as a kid. What a nostalgia trip.
Same. My first cards were from Prophecy, Nemesis and Masques. But I was around 8 years old then, a few years later during this block I really got a hang of the game and made my first real decks. Good times.
I've started playing when Odyssey came out. I remember the archetypes of decks i had: Mono black control, Psychatog, Mirari Wake control, White Vinee, Braids green-black, UG(simic) treshold and UG midrange, Black-red land destruction , Reanimator...A lot of good memories. Also this was a last but one set whith two mana counterspell
This wasn’t such a wierd time in magic, it was actually pretty popular, right around when magic online came out just before this. This was a really fun draft set, and I drafted it more than any other set. Blue green madness and mono black control were the big decks in block constructed. Btw, cabal coffers was in torment, the second set in odyssey block, it was black-centric stuff mostly, like the tainted lands, mutilate, chainers edict and tons of great black cards. The last set was green/white centric, judgment. It was interesting to highlight one or two colors mostly in those sets, made drafting strange but strategic.
My LGS has a box of odyssey and the held a draft for top 8 from magic league. What great nostalgia, I started playing heaviest in the odyssey block when I was in 6th grade. I bought a few packs as well at $12 each. Didnt pull any huge value but the nostalgia of opening pack fresh standstill was great. Awesome video
$160 in value, going off TCG mid for the rares, foils, and the commons/uncommons worth over a dollar. Unfortunately missed on Tainted Pact and some of the other good rares, but still got a Time Stretch and Entomb. Some nice foils too, with a nice 14 dollar Peek and an 11 dollar Aboshan as the best. Overall, not bad; I'd assume that's about average for a box of Odyssey.
But no one opens a box of this to sell on tcg low... Doesnt even make sense. People open a box of this for pack fresh cards and nostalgia. No box will ever make u money not even a Modern Horizons great box if you sell TNN low... Thanks for the checking but I fail to see ur logic
@masterloard hey no offense man, I was just saying that opening a beautiful sexy sealed box of 18 year old cards; that it doesnt fit into the realm of logical reasoning to price them at TEPNRC low. This would be an extreme example of A Timothy mindset. Love brother dont take everyone as attacking you maybe just a little gentle slap like "helloo".
2001 what a year man this was when i first started playing MTG i started with 7th edition. It is so refreshing to see old box openings again thank you rudy i really appreciate this time jump backwards seeing these old cards again warms my heart its when WOC wasn't so fucked in the head like they are now. I also miss the novels they use to print id like to collect them again.
Oh gosh, I love these old frame sets with the old frame borders so much, this was such a treat, thanks Rudy! Whew, that foil Rob Alexander mountain, doesn't get much better than that.
First learned this Moojic teh Guuthring around ice age, stopped playing cuz I was a young Timmy that liked the pictures and never won, came back to this set and never stopped since. The nostalgia... Thanks Rudy
I started playing with Odyssey. October 2001, I think. First cards I ever opened were from a tourny pack. I got a foil Cabal Patriarch. I remember thinking he must be super good since he was on the cover of the box, lol.
god, yeah. this set came out and I played in my first ever competitive tournament (WV States, remember when Wizards did states???) Played U/B Psychatog lol but yeah Call of the Herd/Spiritmonger GB Rock DOMINATED that tournament.
@@diamanteloco haha I was 14 and brought a test of endurance/solitary confinement life gain deck to states in Seattle and got properly wrecked. It was a blast.
Back when my original LGS closed this was the set that was out. The only place to buy boosters for me then was the local Pawn Shop. I didnt like going there because the owner would make comments about him being an "enabler" and fueling my addiction to MTG. Me and my buddy bought a ton of packs of Odyssey there though just to play in our apartment at the time. Oh yeah, foil lands did seem to pop up alot in this set.. I have at least 20+ in a box here at the house and I doubt I bought more than 2 1/2 booster boxes of Odyssey.
Back in the day, I traded a lot for a foil Call of the Herd hoping that it would go up in value. Sadly, lack of demand and the inflation of magic sets made that card drop in value significantly..
Odyssey was the first booster pack I got of magic as a kid no idea how to play it but appreciate the set now that i actually play magic many many years later. (I was a yugioh player as a kid)
Odyssey was such a cool set. It was right before I started playing in Eighth Edition, but the stores still had packs of it so I bought a couple. I thought the art & bordering was so much cooler
Gaaaahhhh my next door neighbor and I played with two starter decks from Odyssey for like 3 years before I actually bought any other cards. The next set I bought from was Mirrodin. Gotta say, there's something about that oil-painting style that made me as a kid feel like, "Wow, this is a grown-up game."
Just came from another Odyssey video, and the pack layouts are completely different. In the other video, Uncommon x3/ Rare/ Common, and the foils were with whatever rarity it replaced. Does that mean this box is from a different printer, maybe a second printing?
Man thats some mature throwback. I like the card frames, I like the card style and of course the art itself. So gorgeous! And some sets later, Mirrodin appeared and my heart got nearly broken. I dont like artifacts that much and the art was crap.
This is like a major nostalgia for me :D Most of my forst cards when I started playing were from this set. Oh the feeling... Then I went to the highschool and sold everything -_- IKR such a dumb thing to do... I want em back
this video made my day, Odyssey is one of my favorite and most nostalgic sets. would love to see more from this era.
Right on the pack Ruby, odds of premium cards = 1:100...so way above average, 2 and a half boxes of foils.
2,22 boxes of foils. Still, awesome. Gratz for the patreon.
Rakdos, The Showstopper is a standard legal card with flip coin mechanics along with Mirror March. I am sure there are others.
All of the Mirrodin ones for sure, Mana Crypt way earlier too. D6 dice and any other dice are what is not legal in black border
@@CoverofWinter and then there ist battlebond of Course With okaun and Zndrsplt
Two-Headed Giant from Dominaria as well.

Premium card odds approx. 1:100 cards.
The last line of text on the booster wrapper.
RUDY! Great video! The premium card odds you were looking for was 1 out of 100 the timestamp you can see it clearly on is at 19:22
Odyssey, Judgment, Onslaught. Basically when I started playing.
Same. So many cards I never would've remembered, except the art or the name jumps out to me and suddenly I remember owning this card as a kid. What a nostalgia trip.

Odyssey flash back to my youth
Love the old school foils. Especially the lands. Great video Rudy!
Wish they kept the old foiling. Actually looks good without butchering the artwork by shrouding it.
The first foil Druid Lyrist has the cool foiling line at the bottom, Peek too. Wow and Lava Blister at the top.
As an older lady thank you for taking me back. What I wouldn’t give to crack packs from a box of Invasion or Planeshift.
This is the set I started the game with! Such nostalgia! Man I miss those days!
And soulcatcher was one of my favorites!
That shelter card reminds me of Jennifer Beals from Flashdance!
So freaking awesome to see this box opened, second to actually opening it myself! Thank you so much for being you and doing what you do!!
Odyssey holds a special place in my heart as the first set I ever bought a booster from as a kid. Thanks Rudy!

Nice!! Love your content! The Set the I remember getting released, my favorite character story too. Thanks for the memories!
I love this set, I started in the block before this and stopped playing around legions or so, but have taken a pretty big interest now

I got $98.13 TCG low (what you realistically could sell them for) for just the rares and the foils

@@EthanBonardel yeah, and who buys boxes to try and make money? I was just explaining my reasoning for pricing them at low on tcgplayer.
masterloard The people who invest in sealed product, the people who break them down for single fodder, the distributors, etc

Bruhhhhhhhhh Odyssey block is my favorite. I love you Ruby ❤️
I loved Odyssey back in the day. That whole era - like Invasion to 8th edition was my MTG prime
Oh gosh, I love these old frame sets with the old frame borders so much, this was such a treat, thanks Rudy! Whew, that foil Rob Alexander mountain, doesn't get much better than that.
"The $3000 i charged the patreon for the box" *googles box price* $350-$700 me: "damn rudy you're a savage" XD
You pulled so many junk rares that I have in an old binder in the closet.

Cephalid Emperor normal 0,79 and foil 22,09 ... nice one!
You gotta figure there's a commander player out there wanting to play Cephalid tribal.
There wera a lot of foils in this edition, I remember. Invasion was one with multiple foils in a box, too.
I can still remember the odyssey prerelease event. It was so awesome
odyssey was the set that made me fall in love with this game when I was a little kid
Just ordered foil Odyssey basics for one of my decks cuz of this video. They look so awesome!
Dude this brought tears to my eyes. This was when I was learning English.
Man this set brings back so many memories. This was one of the first sets I got into with Magic.
Kev Walker art, man.... that Mindslicer is lovely

This was my very first set. Brings back some great memories.
Great Fifth Element reference. "I only speak two languages English and bad English."
i had so many cards from odyssey and tempest, i dont even know where they are now, wish i could find em.
I started playing during this era! I remember going in on a box of Judgement with my friends.
Truly amazing how little you know about card prices.

Odyssey was when I got back into Magic
Bought my first pack in invasion but really started playing during onslaught legions and odyssey. But it was twelve foils lol not 13
4:25 looks like the bus from My neighbor Totoro but it’s a weird fish thing
Btw, that foil forest is one of the best lands in the set, almost $2 regular, about $9 foil

The 5th element reference is definitely spot on with the era. Well played
So much nostalgia. This is the set where I started playing magic.
This is one of my favorite sealed boxes i have sitting in my office.
The foils r amazing !! Especially love black foils!
17:20 rudy tainted pact is the most expensive card in the set at 70 dollars
edit; its 289 dollars in foil

So nostalgic. The first set I bought with my own money. Oh and with the 7th edition ad on the side.
Love that set and series, such good art and mix of cards, they were all pretty level in terms of usability
Oh boy!!! Now this brings back memories!!!
Ohhh man, Odyssey is right when i played paper magic, this is lovely.
on the back it says 1:100 premium cards
Just came from another Odyssey video, and the pack layouts are completely different. In the other video, Uncommon x3/ Rare/ Common, and the foils were with whatever rarity it replaced. Does that mean this box is from a different printer, maybe a second printing?
Standard during that block was amazing. I played ug mongrel and squirrel opposition
i would love an valuecount like the professor did :D
I like how he always gets the box to look for the year. When the year is printed on every single card.
At a certain age those tiny numbers become impossible to read.
According to TCG Mid. a foiled Time Stretch from Odyssey is under $70 at the moment.
Foil basics are amazing from this set.
Petrified field, nice little card. What’s the value on that these days?
For future reference, Timmy... the pull rate for foils is on the back of the box.
Where is the new video?
Hey Rudy how is your plan going to own your own like shopping mall type thing so you dont ever have to pay rent
Damn anyone notice the print flaw on soulcatcher? Shame.
What a cool set!! Thanks for sharing.
I love Odyssey. It was the set that got me into magic as a kid

In europe a foil time stretch is worth 15 euros, in usa is 60 dollars...lol
2001, I was a a junior in high school lol. I missed this block.
If you're a swell guy, you'll upload an Invasion opening. Thanks dude.
Ruby's Odyssey
IS THAT A CONEHEAD?! fuckin got me lmao
Damn! Not first to a Rudy video, because I was watching another Rudy video.
Call of the herd was the most valuable when that block was around
