    I've reviewed most of the Surface Devices and loved them all so far! But... What do I think of the Surface Book 2? I will say straight away away that it looks identical to the Surface Book 1 with Performance Base. Does it 'perform' any better though? Let's find out!!
    Being a professional Digital Artist and illustrator and having used the Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book 1 with Performance Base, I'm still glad to see another Surface device arrive. I also helped The Verge in London to review the Surface Studio and I went down to Microsoft HQ to chat with their engineers about the Studio and other Surface devices for the creative community. This is now the 10th Surface device to be released but is the Surface Book 2 as great for artist as other members of of the Surface line-up? Let me know what you think in the comments.
    Until next time, keep on creating!
    Lawrence.

    The long awaited SB2 review!! I'd say you will get invited for cookie and tea at Microsoft HQ in the future! One of a select few of SB2 reviews where the reviewer can actually draw! Well done mate!

      For the most part it is a device made for creatives. I do wish they'd go the whole hog and give us a device made 100% for creatives rather than trying to accommodate other users as well who are not that bothered. The Matte screen for example.

    • @thefloorhasgone
      @thefloorhasgone 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeh, Matte Screen option would fantastic and Thunderbolt 3 port. so that when the GPU becomes obsolete, we can plug in an external GPU! Also a 32gb or 64gb ram option would be nice! make the ram upgradable at least! pretty please!

    You were actually one of the main deciding factors when I bought the Surface Book with Performance Base. Got me the $3,200 top of the line model too. The i7 1TB hard drive and 16GB RAM model. Fortunately, I got it for $2,500 on eBay because someone wanted to sell it and buy a MacBook Air instead. (LOL) And I wanted the Surface Book with Performance Base over getting a new laptop and a ludicrously expensive Wacom Cintiq.
    And just like before, you're one of the main deciding factors in me wanting the Surface Book 2...even though I don't really need it because the upgrade would be minimal and I don't have the money for one.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      They sold it and bought a MacBook??? Hahaha hahaha!!! Fools. I bet they regretted that shortly after. I get my old Mac out every now and again for testing and the lack of touchscreen alone sends me up the wall.
      The Surface with Performance Base remains my favourite Surface device! They should of made the 15" Capel of holding 32GB ram then maybe it would have been that.

      Over the year, have you had any issues with wearing out the tips it there screen?

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, Surface is solid in that regard@@coffeeenthusiast8774. However, after a while of working, the rubber tip warms up and you can feel it sticking to the screen. It even leaves a visual smear which you notice once the screen is turned off. That's not a problem for most people but given that the Surface Pro 3 had that issue and now are on the SP7 and they haven't improved the nibs to solve this... drives me crazy!!

    I trust your reviews the most of any tech reviewer here since you always aim it at artists from the viewpoint of a professional artist and you're always unbiased. You (and my older tech failing) are the reason I took the plunge on the MobileStudio 16 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and as someone with buyer's remorse, I don't regret either purchase months later. I was just given a Surface 2 15" as a university graduation present as my old Macbook Pro just couldn't keep up anymore and I needed a replacement laptop. I couldn't be happier with it, handles what I need it to, I can draw on it and it is a whole heck of a lot easier to port around than my Mobile Studio 16 (which I also love to bits). Keep up the great work!!

    USB c can power your device as well, the difference between thunderbolt 3 and usb c is that thunderbolt can let you plug in external GPUs, and it has faster data transfers.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup, you can power the SB2 via USB-c but it's sooo slow in comparison that there's no point in using that - I wouldn't even consider it a feature at this point unfortunately. There's a ton of other stuff you can do with Thunderbolt 3 and I have a DAS drive, the Dell Canvas and other devices that will not work with USB-c but want Thunderbolt instead. External GPUs are good for video rendering but I wouldn't want one plugged into my Surface all the time. That Thunderbolt port would make a difference to serious creators and I doubt it would cost too much put in there. Plus, your device becomes a little more future-proof! Are You using a Surface Book?

    Hey Mann, I just want to say your artwork is on point especially the details. I just finished looking at your portfolio and I am blown away! I'm a artist myself but I find myself drawn to geometrical shapes instead of figures. I wish that I had the talent to draw the human body like yourself but I'll get there with more practice. I actually have a life size self portrait hanging at the college I work at here in SW Florida (the medium is in colored charcoal on brown paper standing 6' tall) I am currently using the Surface Book 2 15" & I would like to know what is the best inexpensive (NO monthly payments) (ONE TIME FEE) drawing software for the SB2?

    Great review! For my preferences I would get a 15 inch for the Surface Book and if I wanted a smaller screen just get a Surface Pro. However, that's because I really don't want the keyboard (and I wish the Samsung Chromebook would have a detachable keyboard too), I just prefer the tablets.

    I use surface pro but what irritates me most is their pen ergonomics....1- The pen I can't grip well, feels slippery compared to Wacom rubberised pen. 2- The button click feel is laughable compared to Wacom pen button.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I understand completely. The Surface Pen isn't my favourite. This one is better than the last but it is still not that usable over long periods of time. It's not really designed for artists & creatives. It feels like it's more for note taking. I'd much prefer a more Ergonomic stylus too!!!

    Surface book is a cool device but it's kinda pricey for the specs you get. I think your better off just getting an entry level portable device and a powerful desktop with a screen tablet. My laptop was 999 and it came with the i7 7700, 16 gigs ram, 256 gb ss , 1 tb hardrive and a 1060. That surface book is almost 3k with the same specs. The laptop doesn't have a touchscreen or pen but I can buy a really nice screen tablet and it will still be waaay cheaper.

    My issue is that i want to see how this works when drawing in photoshop. I mostly use adobe cc for my work and I've heard the SB2 (at least used to) has issues with either crashing, not recognizing the graphics card, etc. I dont want to pay 3000 dollars for something that isnt going to work properly.
    Can anyone debate this? I really want to get one of these but I've seen so many iffy reviews :(

    Great review. Loved to see someone actually “draw” for a length of time to see it all in action. ... Okay, I do graphic design, digital art, some photo editing, also digital caricatures. I am currently using the 2nd generation iPad Pro 10.5in..I love it ...(I use Affinity Designer/and photo..Autodesk Sketchbook, at times Concepts (plus a few other apps)..I know Affinity designer/photo and sketchbook and concepts are also available for computer...I personally would love to use the full versions... I also at times do video creation for clients (using things like Animaker and GoAnimate - currently using an old 2009 slow MacBook Pro) I am looking at changing up..I was going to just upgrade to the iPad Pro 12.9 but thinking I want the power of a full computer and have been looking into the Surface Pro and the surface book 2 (fading more towards the surface book 2) ..eventually I was looking at getting the surface studio for home use and either the pro or SB2 as my portable device... I don’t do enough video work to justify the kind of money to be spent on an SB2 for only that reason, I do more digital art, graphic design (logos etc) caricature work...things in that nature...If i go this route and do this upgrade I will be going 15in with the highest specs (i7, 16gb ram, and either the 512 or the 1tb ssd) What is your thoughts on an upgrade like this for what I do for a living? Is the SB2 the best route to take and would a machine like this last a couple years using it in this way (plus normal use, TH-cam, social media, web searches etc)..I want portability and power... Your thoughts?

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got a few more videos on my channel too for the Surface Book 2 and the Surface book 1 with Performance Base (still my favourite Surface). Runs Affinity and SketchBook great btw.
      That upgrade idea sounds good. As a pro myself I will always say to go for the highest model possible to make it last longer. I still have an old MacBook 2009 kicking about somewhere. I had the 2011 too. That was my last Mac. My son was given the iPad and my iPhone was shoved in the draw so I moved to the Note 8 and I got a phone with a stylus.
      You don't need a massive hard drive on the Surface as long as you keep your work on a portable drive as I do. I think that's better. Keep the drive clear so your programs can use that for processing.
      The Studio is old now. If you want to get that then wait for the next one. You could just get a decent sized tablet and connect it to your Surface Book later!
      Hope that helps!

    • @LGeeThomas
      @LGeeThomas 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lawrence Mann Thank you so much for your fast reply.. I will be subscribing to your channel and will check out more of your videos on the SB2. I will say, I am not a die hard apple fan, the iPad was given to me as a gift and I admit i love the thing...To be honest, I still feel the iPad is best for portability. Meaning, it is always on, always ready and can simply pull it out the bag on the fly, open and app and get drawing in 15 seconds....The SB2 wont be as quick and ready i believe...But i want to go to the full version of the current apps I use, so I am sacrificing some portability for the upgrade. Part of why I was originally aiming toward the surface pro... But I love the processing of the SB2, it opens the door for the option to start doing videos again for my clients if need be....Though my focus is more on digital caricatures, logo design and other digital art.... But I always want the biggest and best when it comes to computers and tablets, so I know the SB2 may be overkill for what I do for a living, but that works for me LOL...Thanks again

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used Apple for 20 years but went back to Windows because they just refuse to touch pen & touch on all devices which is a real detriment to creatives like us! The iPad looks like a good device but I'd like it to use full applications like Photoshop and have an SD card slot and USB-C.
      I like 'overkill'. Nothing wrong with knowing that you have enough power for job and then some. You might want to learn video editing next year - you never know and then you'd have the power for that. I never thought I would but then I got into TH-cam! Who knows where you'll be in a couple of years.

      It's not as if I sit drawing in the middle of a field so it never really bothers me personally. Plus I have a battery pack it can run off of. I don't think any mobile device has a super-duper battery-life but I'm never more than 10ft from an outlet even if I'm flying. I would like a bigger battery but I'd say that about all the devices I have. I think my MacBook was worse - Especially after the 1st year.

I intend to carry out commissions and works of a good quality, not excellent because I do not have that capacity (for Now, I think that everything is achieved with constancy) haha; but if a work that allows me a certain level of appreciable details. The screen is slightly flexible. It's not that noticeable when you're working on it. Remember that this is a close up with the camera and even your face doesn't get that close. I'd like to see MS fix this though - maybe use a tough phone glass rather than this flexible 'plastic' whatever it is.

    Great detailed review from an artist. I love my Surface Pro 4 for all it can do but the SB2 15” screen is enticing. I suppose when I go bigger, I will go for the Surface Studio. My friend, who designs and builds custom motorcycle engines, will love the upgraded features of the SB2. You can design or do art and run your business from one device. It's simply called Concept Art. What you need to do is study as much good artwork as you can find online. As many good videos on anatomy and composition. Practice for 3 hours a day - Every day and get tuition from an artist you trust and admire! That's the best way.

    Which pen model do you use with the Surface Book 2? Because I read so much about possible jitter, I am curious at what pen to buy (maybe a Wacom?) thanks in advance!

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wacom have the best pens of all. They're out in front by a massive lead. Both in tech and in the Ergonomic feel of the stylus. They own the patents so it's not hard to understand why. Personally I think the Surface Pen is the one thing that lets Surface down a little. It works well enough and any artist worth their salt can get good results BUT it feels horrible to hold and that really comes across after a few hours in the hand. If you're like me and you draw for 12-16 hrs a day then the Surface can cripple you!

    • @GreenePearl

      Lawrence Mann thanks for your quick reply! I believe there are wacom pens that can be used on a surface book 2, is that right? Btw, 16 hours! Whatever the pen, I’d be crippled anyways 🙈

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

      Yes, I reviewed that pen! It still won't work better than a Surface Pen on the Surface Book though. Just because Wacom made it, it won't give you all the abilities of a normal Wacom Pro Pen on the Surface unfortunately. A lot of it is to do with the tablet as well.

    Hey Lawrence,
    Need some help to decide. I'm about to buy one of these devices, Sb performance base or Sb2 13.5. Both i7, 16gb ram 512gb ssd. Did your idea change? Is the performance base still your favorite even after using sb2. Don't you think sb2's improvements (processor, screen, new pen features, gpu and some other things that i don't know) enough
    Also I want to mention their prices
    Sb pb 7.5 unit costs
    Sb2 10.5 unit costs (11ish with pen)

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LAWRENCEcanDRAW Yes, I watched it too. That beast is very powerful, way better all around, hardware, screen etc. but 15inch is not my type and it's more pricey. (20ish unit and don't know if the pen is included) So, I'm looking for second-hand devices for the moment.
      The difference is about the 1/3 price of sb pb, I narrowed the choices, just wondered why SB Pb was your favorite over sb2(or did it change)?

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, price is the only issue I thought you might raise. It would last a looong time though. The highest spec SB 1 with PB feels the same to work on as the mid range SB2. If you can find a deal then it works out cheaper - a lot cheaper!! You can even get reconditioned from Microsoft so it comes with a warranty so that's awesome. Worth looking at!!!

    Thank you for the video review. For my artist wife that her MacBook pro just died we are trying to decide what to purchase. This review helps. We went to the store today and looked at the surface 2, the dell xps and the lenovo yoga 760. The lenovo with 4k 15 inch screen 1tb ssd, 16 gb ram, i7 cpu, nvidea gpu, 3 years warranty and support is roughly 50% the price of the surface with similar specs. But my wife was impressed with the Surface 2. So any advice on where to go with this info? For the cost savings we could buy lenovo 2inone 760 and the 900 Huion kamvas 22 and still be less than the Surface 2. But i don’t know what is best for an artist.

      Dell also do a 5530 which is their new power house with a stylus. Worth taking a look at. It's a more powerful version of the XPS.
      XP-Pen also do a few tablets that are worth looking at.

The Huion 22 though seems the way to go, except she's still stuck on "Apple" even though she's aware how bad their Macbook hardware is. I think the Ipad Pro is worth getting but she worries how will she get art from the iPad Pro into Windows laptops.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      She can always export art from the iPad pro as a JPG and save it to DropBox as a worse case scenario. Some apps will let you save as PSDs though. Some people are saying that iPad Pro is getting Photoshop but I will say now that this will not be full Photoshop as many people are hoping it will be - just in case your wife is hoping for that.
      The iPad will be great but it really only has a couple of apps to pick from so make sure to research them first and make sure you're happy before you buy - Apple won't let you return it once you've taken it out of the box.

    Good review.
    I've got the 15" 256GB model and while it is a great machine for 3D modelling and using substance painter, I'm still annoyed by the stuff MS gets wrong when it comes to the Surface line up.
    Why oh why have Microsoft not provided an easy method of making custom floating menu's that you can use to access program functions and keyboard shortcuts?
    If you want to sculpt (or paint) properly you have to use it in "Studio mode" which makes the keyboard inaccessible, how to do you then access things like alt or shift when you sculpt / paint?
    I've used a variety of different programs but the only I've had any success with is TouchKey, it's amazing MS have not addressed this.

      Yeah I did a video on TouchKey: th-cam.com/video/X3q0aUTt6Yk/w-d-xo.html
      From chatting to developers it's amazingly hard to develop this kind of software because it almost has to hack into the OS system and it interacts with each app and float on top and does multiple things that the OS hates. So it would be easier if Windows just did it themselves! I've wondered it myself. Seems so simple.

    Hi Lawrence I'm a bit late to the party, but I've been finding your reviews extremely useful. I am a hobbyist with a bad spending habit, and I had been convinced that I 'needed' the surface pro 4. A really nice sales assistant at a store that won't be undersold, suggested the surface book and I am hooked. In an ideal world it would be the top end model, or even the top end 13". Sadly I risk being divorced if I bought that on my credit card. I was then thinking of the 13" i7 8gb 256gb. I would be using illustrator, but I don't think I could justify an extra £700 on 8gb more RAM, and I don't think I will utilise the extra hard drive space. My work is not as intensive as yours, very basic in comparison in fact, but I want a little future proofing if spending this kinda cash. The husband would rather I got the i5 8gb 128gb, obviously due to the price. I guess what I would like to know is, do I need the extra RAM if I am using a dedicated graphics card? What would be the better trade off? Thanks in advance.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can add extra storage with an SD card or an external drive. The only work you need to keep on the actual device is the work you are currently working on so you don't need a large drive at all. Ram for you isn't a major issue but you might like to get as much as you can if you are doing complex vector work! Id say that it's more important to have that i7 than the i5. This way it is more future proof, especially if you want to do other tasks as well. Hope that helps! Welcome to the community Helen :D

    I have a few questions. looking for good resources on how to set up my Surface Book (w/performance base) better i7/16ram. I noticed on your videos Photoshop is running so much smoother. I am new to photoshop as a drawing tool. I have the 9.99/month Adobe. . . I recently bought Rebelle3 after trying it, I really love it.!! but it really is struggling. and It shouldn't. I am going to pull my file s off . I noticed you said you do not save to the computer. As an artist I have a lot on this computer and externally backedup. These digital drawing files are huge! I think I need to reconfigure and make sure all my everything is available for Rebelle or photoshop. Thinking long term. I think I might work toward my surface being solely my drawing tool. and eventually having a separate laptop for other things. Also looking into larger and am looking at the differences between the Surface studio, vs. Wacom 32. Seems it might be better to invest in the Wacom as I could swap computers (again, is it best to solely dedicate that computer to the drawing tablet) without losing the tablet. vs the Studio is all in one and it dies, I am screwed royally. or would the Wacom tablet last about the same anyway. The other thing I am weighing is matte vs glossy. I love the glossy glass screen. don't enjoy tSoft nibs create drag on the glossy screen that makes it difficult for me to operate. My work time is cut short. Seems to me I could build a very powerful computer to hook a Wacom up to that would be a better drawing tool than the Surface Studio. I am thinking about the Wacom mobile, seems that would be a better outdoor plein air painting tool. The Surface book gloss is about impossible. but it does mean I am practicing blind contour drawing, a lot. lol. This is all so new. I never realized how much I would love digital tools.yay! I have always been a paper obsessive and getting dirty in charcoal, graphite, making my own inks, etc. Much more difficult now days as a quad.and progressive disease. Scouring resources to help make decisions. Thanks for any suggestions or resources, greatly appreciated.

      I've just added closed captions so you can watch this with subtitles if it helps! Wish I could add translations to all my videos - just takes sooo long :(
      Just on battery you can get 5-8 hrs on a fully charged surface Book. I'd say 5 to be safe if you're doing serious work. You need the brightness up full and I turn off all the applications I'm not using but I can still run down the battery. It charges fast though. In truth, you are never too far from a plug port unless you are painting in the middle of a field!

    Wow, are all those Surfaces on the desk yours? So many... Anyway, be careful when choosing the one without fan... you know, thermal throttling is said to be a big issue in Surface line.
    For me, it's definitely Wacom... Surface is not cheap and as usual, the tariffs bump up the price even further. But the killer factor is... I don't know for what reason, Microsoft just decided not to release any of the Surface line in my country (we do have official MS branch over here).
    While Wacom (and yeah, we have official Wacom branch over here too) is quite diligent on releasing new stuff here. I can buy all Wacom line over here, including Mobile Studio and Cintiq Pro.

    I heard about the poor palm rejection and jitter, is it really that bad?

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can see the Parallax video clip I shot. There's no jitter there and that's shot close up. I didn't experience any. Microsoft have been messing around with the pen drivers something awful this last month. It's caused major issues for a lot of us as you may of heard about? Point being that these 'tweaks' were in an effort to correct a lot of the line issues with the Surface ink jitters etc. As far as I can see, they've fixed them - even if it was at everyone else's expense.
      Palm rejection is fine. It's not as good as Wacom but we always knew that. It is the same as it has been since Surface Pro 3 I'd say. This is the same as it is on most phones and most tablets. iPad, Wacom & anything without a battery in the stylus has better better palm rejection on average.

I work on digital paintings in Corel Painter that can go up to 3GB. And I do video editing too. It means I always want something with a bit more punch!! I can see the flexibility of the screen bouncing up and down every time you palm hits the screen...this would be so annoying because I draw with a bit of pressure on my hand too...nope for me. Waiting for the SB3.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is a bit annoying and it's a thing that Surface has always had an issue with. That said, I would say you'd be better off trying to lighten your touch with the stylus. Even though you can't see it, you can be damaging the screen of your tablet if you're pressing on it too hard. A lot of artists are the same. They lean on their devices and it shortens the lifespan by years causing dead pixels, colour variation, dark spots and you can force you nib to scratch the screen more as well. If you alter your pressure settings and try to lighten your touch you'll extend the life of your tablet. If you ever do get a Surface Book then it's something you's have to do. Haha.

Also, companies do not often give you things to keep. That is a common misconception, just in case you hoping for 'Free tech'. lol. I know a lot of people think I get to keep all this stuff. TH-camrs who get to keep it all are often BIG TH-camrs with massive subscriber counts.

      The curse of and tablet, laptop or 2-in-1 is that you're never gonna upgrade it. If anyone is bothered about that then they're the person who is gonna do their own build. This kind of device is for the person who is never gonna build and wants the portability. That cash is also a status symbol remember and maybe a finger or two to Apple for a few people. The high-end Surface Book is more than powerful enough for 90% of digital artist's needs- yes if you're a builder you can make your own for less but if you are a freelance pro you have the factor in the cash/time factor too! It all depends what you want. Horses for courses. I supposes that's why it's a great thing we get to pick and choose which option we go for!! Democracy wins again ;D

    Please don’t buy any surface products, software has many issues, they update it regularly, whenever new updates comes the system fails in many other hardware things...for me in last update and the keyboard and mouse stopped working...customer service is worst. Doesn’t worth the money we pay to those people!!!

      Thanks for sharing your opinion. I guess you are copy & pasting this same comment on as many Surface (Book?) videos as possible?? I will say that this is just one opinion and I know many people who have a very positive feelings towards the Surface brand and their products. Every brand has their detractors due to bad experiences and I am not detracting from yours. However, I do suggest that a better way to inform potential Surface customers of your woes is to put them in video format and show the proof. Show the emails between you and customer support or the record the phone calls, show the Surface device not working, let people see your anguish, talk to people in the comments.
      I didn't want to be a hater so I decided to work within the tech industry as a consultant to give my feedback so the devices could become better for myself and my fellow creatives. Over the years that has worked. I have seen my opinions make a difference and my suggestions make an impact on the computers I use. I know I am listened to by the companies and it works far better than ranting online. It may of taken me many years but this impact can be achieved by you too. Or by anyone reading this.
      I hope you're happy with the device you decided to buy after the Surface Parimal. I'm interested to hear which brand you decided to purchase and trust after Microsoft Surface?

    It's so fucking expensive! instead should someone get a Wacom pro (PC-Display) ?????

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

      Depends what you're after... portability or longevity. Hooking a Cintiq up to your computer will be more cost effective and better for pro's but it's not portable. The Surface Book just offers these powers on the go. If you have the cash then I say get both!!

      Graeme Hogg I stopped using my cintiq companion for an iPad pro 12.9 with clip studio pro (25 per year now!). I love it. Wish it had a tiny bit more ram though. I like the apple pencil better than any other stylus I've tried, which is saying a lot because I love wacom.

      What apps are you using? Do you ever wish you had more power though so you could have a full OS with Photoshop and other full applications?

      I switched from the latest Surface pro with the new pen to an iPad pro, and as the drawing goes It’s in a different league because of the pen issues on the Surface which microsoft tried to cover up, and convince me it was normal, which it made it unusable for me. The iPad feels close to perfect for drawing. Since I switched I don’t even have a laptop like device, just the iPad and a desktop. I just wish the iPad had a full version of photoshop because I’m so used to the workflow in photoshop, but I do my professional work on a desktop and a big wacom screen tablet anyway.

      Amin Bajrektarevic agreed. I mainly use Procreate on the iPad Pro. Ideal for airdropping them over to my Mac as layered .psd files. I use 22hd cintiq which is nice but I love the freedom and the drawing experience on the iPad Pro.

      Yeah, Microsoft switched from using Wacom tech and bought Ntrig out. The Pen on the Surface isn't my favourite of all the stylus pens out their either. The trouble for me is that, being a pro' artist, I can't get over the hump of working on a device that can't use full applications. I need to run Photoshop & Painter etc and edit files that I'm already working on. The iPad isn't an alternative to the Surface Book - the MackBook Pro is. The trouble is that Apple won't give it Pen & Touch :( That's why I had to stop using MackBooks after 10yrs and switch to Windows. Procreate looks good though. Maybe Apple will either put Mac OS on the iPad or the Pencil on the MacBook. Or maybe Ntrig will improve!! Fingers crossed! Thanks for letting me know your reasons on that and it's interesting to see those two stories were very much the same!
