exactly, I have done my shoes, helmet and bike all with just one wipe from the baby. You just have to do the clean things first and gradually move on to the dirtier parts. (I run wax on my chain so no chain cleaning)
Greatly interested in this upgrade as I was considering doing the same to my Roubaix Pro Dura Ace bike. Sadly it's over 15 years old (still rides like a 911 Twin Turbo save the sloppy gear changes) so there's no access to run cables or attach the front mech. I threw in the towel and ordered a new 2021 Roubaix Pro SRAM Force eTap AXS. The lack of wires and 12 speed won me over although time will tell if it's worth the cost. Just looked at the new Quarq PM I'll need as well. Ouch. Love all these step by step tutorials Shane, I've learned so much valuable info. My best to you, Von, and Max.
Nice vid, once again. One thing.. just in case you haven't: the dealer manuals say you should set up the front derailleur support bolt and backup plate (even if you're using a clamp band. It's worth checking.. but at the same time.. if it works, it works ;-))
Such an awesome upgrade. I want to do this to my bike too, a Giant Fastroad Advanced 1 with Shimano 105. I need pretty much exactly the same parts as you, but I'm worried about removing my Bottom Bracket since it's Press Fit, and obviously I'd have to source the mountain bike equivalent Di2 shifters since I have flat handlebars.

Good job, Di2 looks the business but with the upgrade kit £800+ here in the UK it will have to wait. 2nd hand market is an option but I’m not sure I want to put a 2nd hand groupset on a nearly new bike.
That third hand thing looks a lot like those super expensive things that are supposed to make attaching, tightening, and cutting of zipties super easy. Maybe that's a hidden ability of the tool? Also, why get another derailleur hanger when you can just get a DA9100 rear derailleur. 😁
My second bike doesn't have brakes or a rear wheel ... hasn't seen the "road" since 1995! Lives on my trainer in the living room. Though, it has been updated a bunch. A few years ago, new Ultegra cranks and Dura Ace BB... then new 105 STI including both derailleurs...
I don't know why but I really really love my 2013 Giant TCR. I got the red one, but only Ultegra 6800 10sp. I hope one day someone will sell me a cheap Di2 system !

That's a common response, but really, how often do you install a new groupset on your bike? Because that's the only time you have to deal with the cables. (while charging the AXS batteries is something you keep on doing 😉)
Shane can I ask your opinion as today shimano goes to 12spd di2 even on a 105 level, if I upgrade my old 2013 TCR adv SL with 9070 di2 is still worthed nowadays? Just asking for second opinion. I'm not an super cyclist who rode 40 kph up on thr peloton or always purchase the latest products on the market as I still ride my old 2011 TCX with 5700 brifter mixed with Zee rd and it's still bomb proof. Need some input... this is my first bike with Di2. If I have In manual or semi-sync mode and in gear 34 (front) the rear will only go down to a 15 (gear 9). It will not go to gear 10 or 11?

How old was your TCR frame when you upgraded? I'm considering upgrading my 5 year old CAAD10 from Ultegra 6800 mech to 8050 Di2. The frame is Di2 compatible and I don't like the look of the external mechanical gear cables.
The way Shimano settles automated (synchronized) shifting, it makes a bad chain line when going on the large plate, instead of going down gear at the back. Did you note that ?
@@gplama Yes, customizable but within certain limits in the software. Can't figure out how Shimano engineer happened to choose such bad chain line. I got back to semi-synchronized shifting to turn around the problem.
Hi if you go onto bettershifting.com on there it tells you how to program the hidden buttons on the top of the hoods and that enables you to use them to change gear and you could loose the other climbers switches I’ve never been a fan of those
Hi bit of the subject I recently purchased a tarmac sl6 expert disc udi2, My problem is, the DI2 system seems to have a fault with it, I change the gear mode to mode-1 this was ok for a few weeks, then went into semi synchro mode-2, where the rear derailleur moves up to second gear all time, no matter what gear its in on the front drive, I’ve checked it with the L.E.D. Lights that confirm its in mode-1 full manual, semi synchro works and full synchro works fine, I’ve confirmed all this with the LEDs with the gear shifters and the junction box button. am I missing something doing something wrong? thanks for all your help Martyn
@@gplama firmwareall up to date, all that's going on is i put the Di2 into full manual mode-1 but the rear derailleur , when i put it into first gear when moving it go's into second gear on its own, no matter what gear i'm in on the front

Why didn't you go with a Internal Junction Box? Although I think I know why... You need to either drill holes in the handle bar or buy a new one with holes. 🤪👍

I've already done some soldering for a non di2 bike, got the etube wires encased in my old jagwire links for the RD wire running through what used to be where the FD cable runs through. Still working out a battery solution given I can't access the seatpost. Thinking of a few options for internal battery. The other bike whilst also non di2, does have access to the seat post. Soldering the wires isn't an issue for me, so can be inventive.
Did not know that it was a country specific thing. When I was a kid my dad built me a bike out of a catalog and got them back to front, my friends told me to “do a skid” and showed me which brake to pull, I then promptly superman’ed over the bars. Thanks Dad!
If I switched to AXS for Lama Lab Testing the cassettes and XDR drivers I'd need would cost more than this Di2 upgrade. I'm all for the SRAM AXS tech..... not so keen on the price tag(s).
I already have a TCR with Di2 on it. That's a disc setup with thru-axle and a different bottom bracket. Given the number of cranks/power meters/trainers I get through the Lama Lab I've chosen to keep this rim brake (QR) bike as a 2nd option for testing.

I ditched the junction box strap around the stem for double sided tape. I can now live with a junction box under the stem, for now.

Hi Shane. How long are the Di2 cables from each of the shifters to the 3-port junction box? I use 40 cm wide bars (hoods centre to centre).
I can't recall. I measured the distances with string first before ordering the specific lengths.

It's customisable with the E-Tube config. And a bad chainline depends on what gear you're in on the back to start with.

I'm not quite sure what you're describing. I'd check all the firmware versions and make sure things are up to date.

Hi, any idea whether ultegra di2 upgrade tool can convert an ultegra rim brake version to di2 with disc brake?
Rim to Disc is requires almost everything new.

Yep. It's brilliant. Strong enough to hold the bike for my 20kg weight testing of power meters too!

What was the true elapsed time for the install?
You'll be able to pause the video and check my watch to really tell. It was a few hours (in between bath time , snacks, and naps for little llama).
How much would Di2 cost$$$$ before labor??
This group set was purchased pre-owned and I did this work myself. All up a lot cheaper than retail and having a bike shop install it.

Did not know that it was a country specific thing. When I was a kid my dad built me a bike out of a catalog and got them back to front, my friends told me to “do a skid” and showed me which brake to pull, I then promptly superman’ed over the bars. Thanks Dad!

sram axs is much better not having to deal with any cables.
If I switched to AXS for Lama Lab Testing the cassettes and XDR drivers I'd need would cost more than this Di2 upgrade. I'm all for the SRAM AXS tech..... not so keen on the price tag(s).

Yep. With the calliper levers there's another port on each lever should take sprint switches.

I already have a TCR with Di2 on it. That's a disc setup with thru-axle and a different bottom bracket. Given the number of cranks/power meters/trainers I get through the Lama Lab I've chosen to keep this rim brake (QR) bike as a 2nd option for testing.
