I was there. I remember the Bay of Pigs, the overthrow and the murder of President Diem, the sending of over 17,000 combat troops to Vietnam. Kennedy was a complete screw up.
Kennedy gave his life in service to the people of his time; a great patriot and I thank him for his service. My family sends about $40k a year to the U.S. Treasury in income tax under threat of imprisonment if we don't send it, so I know what I'm doing for "my country". Now "my country" is heading toward forcing an unwanted medication jab on us. Things have changed. I think it's time to ask: What are you doing for me U.S. government?

You're right; Kennedy was 'hawkish', but then again he was a rookie with a very steep learning curve when compared to Eisenhower, who had a bead on international goings on since graduating from West Point in 1915, not to mention his strategic responsibilities during WWII and his knowledge of the situation as NATO Supreme Commander and later President of The United States. So, when giving the most famous Farewell Address since George Washington's, Eisenhower revealed what Kennedy was up against. Once Kennedy learned (he picked up lickety split), he began to question everything others did not want him questioning, which Eisenhower warned about.
