  • Cleaning up around beehives and checking on honey.
    These hives were loaded with honey. The nectar flow is strong, and so are the hives. Looking forward to an incredible honey harvest this year.

    My dad and I have about 50 hives and we've noticed that the bees are a little "behind schedule" due to the late cold snap. At least that's what we think. On the plus side, we are in swarm collection heaven! Our bees have been pretty aggressive too. I wonder if, like you said, it's the weather or something. Anyway, keep up the great videos. I'm a big fan.

    One thing you could invest in if your bees get any more irritated over the load noise of the weedwacker is a scythe. It can get close and cuts just as well if not better.

    My bees have been very defensive/irritable as well. Yesterday I took a sting when one got caught under the strap on the back of my ball cap and today one flew right into my face and stung me on the eyelid. Both times I was in my garden, over 30 yards from the hive at least, and not running any sort of equipment.

    I loved the video. Many years ago, my cousin had lots of bees. He was up in his late 70's and his finger joints were badly deformed from arthritis. He had a lot of pain from it. I remember him holding bees to his knuckles so they would sting him. He said the bee venom eased the pain of the arthritis. Have you ever heard of this?

    If you put some honey on the frames of the hive you are putting out for the swarm of bees in the tree, you may be able to get the swarm.

    Regarding troubled hive - That first frame you pulled up with scattered drone "domes" is classic laying worker or drone laying queen. Don't blame you for trying the open brood but don't have much hope for you. Its been a while since you did this so presumably you know the outcome. Take care.

  • @kennethhopson7087
    @kennethhopson7087 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you are fooling around where the bees are, try to stay to the side or behind the hives. I have been able to get the top off and get frames out and put them back in the heat of the day. I just stood behind the hives. I don't have any bees now. I wish I could be able to keep bees.

    Tha worker bees will create a queen cell or two so they will have a queen and maybe have a queen that will break away and start another swarm.

      Wes, how about if you used fuel on your weed Wacker that had straw flavor smoke, or cotton rag flavor ? Don't quite know what to do about the vibration... Maybe get a trimmer that would put out a bee lullaby rhythm....

  • @flowerstone
    @flowerstone 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there a reason you haven’t planted wild flowers around the hives? Too close? Instead of letting grass grow so close could you throw cardboard down around them and cover with chips? Seems it would be better not to disturb them with a weed eater? Just curious. Clover may be a way to go. Just thinking about keeping the grass down. 🙂

    • @falllineridge
      @falllineridge  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No real point in planting flowers around the hives. Bees travel in a 2+ mile radius around the hives to find nectar, covering thousands of acres. If I planted flowers around the hives it would just be a drop in the bucket.
