    1. The Most Beautiful Spear Elbow⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣!⁣

Santos Davy is one of the most revered technicians of all time, even more so than his brother and legend, Nokweed Davy.⁣⁣⁣⁣
    ⁣⁣⁣⁣
He’s one of my personal favorite trainers! ⁣⁣⁣⁣
    ⁣⁣⁣⁣
Love watching him display his art, there’s so much grace in the way he moves, and yet so powerful.⁣⁣⁣⁣ He’s full of amazing techniques that I’ve never seen taught anywhere else. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
    ⁣⁣⁣⁣
The way he externally rotated on this spear elbow is an amazing way to really thrust in a wicked elbow for a good night. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
    ⁣⁣⁣⁣
    2. The Beautiful Jumping Spear Elbow!⁣

This is the jumping spear elbow, with the momentum gained by driving off the rear foot and raising the leg.⁣

The leg raise double serves as a block and a lever to give the elbow a downward drive. ⁣Vicious! ⁣

Do note the initial beginnings: peek through the high guard.⁣ The high guard will give your elbows an early entry.⁣ Welcome to golden era technique! ⁣
    3. The Vicious Overhand Elbow⁣

There are so many variations of Muay Thai elbows.⁣ This is the overhand elbow. This comes up over the top of someone usual mid-guard (there are low, mid, and high guards).⁣

The elbow itself is prepared off a high guard to save the delivery time.⁣ It’s levered by reaching out with the lead hand, which simultaneously blinds.⁣

The rear shoulder and elbow rise to nearly above the head, only to come down at a 45-55 degree angle to slice through the mid guard.⁣

The power is generated from the hip and core rotation.⁣ This is a knock out blow. ⁣

Collaboration with Gage Jeffries of @nak_muay_native and the ever awesome Diamond Muay Thai - make sure to check out Santos and Diamond on Koh Phan Gan when you get the chance.

At 2:08 the hand is not just open for speed. The open hand keeps the “blade out” on your elbow.
If you put your elbow up like that, hand in front of chest - palm out, and make a fist, then your forearm muscle contracts and covers the blade that is your forearm bone/elbow. With your hand open you can feel the “blade” (forearm bone) pretty much all the way to the wrist.

I can see all of these techniques being not only effective but devastating. Specifically on the overhand elbow tho, I think it’s too risky an attack for me personally since I’m not good enough of a technician to be able to set it up. I think elbow variations are some of the most underrated strikes in martial arts, coming from a Shaolin practitioner who loves elbows! Love how the breakdown is like a boxing breakdown analyzing punches, since elbows are just as much of an art as punches!

    • @LawrenceKenshin
