When the old starter spins up and sometimes growls, all it is is dry bushings in the motor itself. I kinda like the idea of TIG welding the cracked starter mount, as long as the rest of the engine checks-out. But that's me. Thank You for sharing your passion/obsession with us.
like the change from the usual boiler service content,, keep the videos coming,!!!! ya got ne wanting it to be spring already so i can go work on my toys!!!,,
Can't wait to see inside the block with the thrown rod. Probably should pull the heads and clean the carbon soot just like cleaning inside a oil boiler... That Onan 2 cylinder opposed engine is pretty cool. Time to get a gasket set too!
Steve, when did this become the small engine repair channel? Love the content. Keep pushing it out! Thanks, and happy holidays. Hopefully you get a cordless wrench soon. Think you might like the ryobi lithium tools.
The Performer engines are good motors. I’ve got the 20Hp on my Wheel Horse and the 24hp on my skid loader. Neither has ever needed major work. One thing to watch for on all the Onan twins is intake manifold leaks. The manifold is made in two pieces. A top and bottom that are riveted together. There is a sealant between the two halves. Over time, the sealant dries out and can develop cracks that can cause vacuum leaks. The fix is to drill out the rivets with a bit just large enough to remove the rivet. Clean the old sealant out and reseal using Moto Seal case sealant. Bolt back together using 4-40 Allen head screws and nuts with some blue lock tite. I’ve done it a couple times on a B series and a Performer. Not a big job, just takes some time….
Steve I have one of the same starter switches you have. That little lamp draws enough current that it will cause those small relays to energize. Drives me crazy sometimes. Anyway as always thanks for all you do for us. Merry Christmas .!
Onan P- engines. I worked on them all the time for years on welders and generators. They have not been made for at least 20 years now. They were used on tons of equipment. Onan built their own engines and they were good. Some Parts are still available for them. I don't see them very often anymore. All new Onan generators have import made engines. Onan closed their engine building plants years ago.......They were also built as Linamar in Canada........
The graphite impregnated bearing are not round but oval out from wear. When that happens, it’s a sure sign the rotor is not centering in the winding field. Putting grease or machine oil in there will make it worst and collect dirt. Best bet is just replace the whole starter with rebuild or new if that is possible these days.
nice machine hard to find quality like that anymore. If you give those front grilles a good tug they pop right out. People like that who buy those shitty zeroturds help us collectors save those antique machines from abuse some people just don't take care of things proven by how dirty that 318 was inside and none of the tins had been off. those onan engines had a flyball spacer that would go bad the earlier onans had a plastic spacer that would break where the newer onans had a metal spacer when that spacer broke it would cause the "Dreaded Onan Surge". Not sure what year that 318 is but that might be somthing you will want to check into. Other than that great video as usual Steve!
I'm having problems with my 1987 John Deere all lights come on and boom no start doesn't blow any fuse but I had to replace the ignition switch and rewire the wires connected to the ignition switch and I made sure the battery is charged and I had replaced the relay as well today and I tried to start it still nothing else and I have power every where I have been testing with the test light also is there more than a thirty watt inline fuse and the circular fuse it kinda giving me problems with more problems
My C.B. handle was Big Bird. I am over 6 feet tall and I used to wear Yellow Sweat Pants and a Jacket, so My Brother-N-Law started calling Me Big Bird.
I don't know if Truck Drivers mess with C.B. Radios now or not. The last time I messed with a C.B. radio, The Mexican People would come in so strong, they would cover up Your signal unless You ran a lot of power to talk. The Skip would come in from Mexico. You could here a bunch of Spanish speaking people and they would dround My Signal out unless I ran a lot of power.
If you had been paying attention, you would know that his truck is in the shop with major issues, so he’s doing these videos to keep fresh content on the channel. He’s told us that before…….
@@stevenlavimoniere Sorry, I had no idea. I thought you retired or something. I've been a viewer since the very beginning and really appreciate your talent. Hope you get the truck back soon/ Merry Christmas!
When you get into something you go ALL IN. Whether it’s chickens or Deeres. Great stuff.
You the man. The lawnmower man. Steve and Molly at it again
Love the John deere stuff, keep it up in between the plumbing vids

Great video Steve.
Love to see it progress
Welding the crack may be easier than replacing the rod on the old motor. Thanks for sharing Steve.

The bearings sounded rough on the old starter. You know what your doing.

Wow!!! I think you broke the record on your channel with the first video being more than an hour! 😃 Yeehaw next level next level.

We used to have a Sears Riding lawn mower and I think it was 11HP. It had a Plastic Starter Gear.

Steven just wanted to say Merry Christmas from the state of Texas. I would definitely lose track of what bolt goes where when putting it back together
How do you heat your garage Steve?
RADIANT FLOOR HEATING
Now you know why it cost $800 to change the starter. Merry Christmas Steve .
It’s a bargain, these days.

I'll lend ya my truck. Molly os welcomed in it !
Impact would have worked wonders
10-4 good buddy, she's a crusty one, with a rat in the cage, Good job Steve.
Steven it will all work out in time Rome was not built in a week

Steve bad bearings/bushings can hear it.
I think it needs a capacitor or maybe a contactor and a little how you doin.😂
It aint got no gas init (slingblade)
I would weld the block and re tap the thread.
Spray it down and make it look shiny
The Zero turn lawn mowers don't work very well on a hill.
Give Miss Molly a Hug for Me and watch out for those Crusty Toilets.
I was gonna say i bet that flywheel is a little chewed up probably. There might be a bat in the belfri 😆
Do still have Molly
shes the videographer/ editor,.
Steves her new trainee momma 😂
take the starter apart and grease the bearings.
Hello Steve!
get some epoxy and fix the mounting hole on the engine.
great video but to many dam commericals
bad starter relay and also a bad bendix on the startermotor
maybe someone hit the starter while it was running.
I say weld it . not that much pressure on starter bolts. at least see how good the motor is running
Steven, I can always count on you for some rodent shots 👍
Enough John Deere, already. What happened to your channel? Is this a tractor repair channel now? Liked the plumbing videos a whole lot more.
