@@frios011 Technically, they're called an LGT. Their smaller tractors are lawn tractors, but the larger ones that attachments are available for are lawn and garden tractors. I've owned them since the 1970s, and they've all been of that family. Stay safe and well.
I have a 92 318 I was sure had starter issues since these are notorious for, so bought an aftermarket one and took to a buddy's who has a mowing service for his top guy to install. After completion, starter still didn't have 14 volts to started, which is needed. So it's sat for awhile until I decide to dig deeper into it. I casually mentioned to another friend who had experienced the same problem. He said his ended up being the time control module. (A costly John Deere available part) that comes with around a $200 price tag. Hecsaid He jumpers the purple wire around the module, and installed a starter button .... now it spins right over. I haven't fooled with it, but hoping that fixes it. I'm not into 'rigging' up fixes, but I'm not into dumping another 200 for a module. I've been that route with another 318 already. I use to be the world's hottest 318 fan but the longer I own 318s, the less impressed with them I am. New, the best thing Deere ever made ... but old with hours, they're a maintenance nightmare. P.S. expensive too!
I got an old wheel horse 416-8 with a P216 Onan engine. It sat in a field for about 20 years when I dug it out for junk. All of the rubber, wires, and plastic parts were rotten and the wiring harness was all corroded. Also it was full of squirrel nests and hornets. I hosed it down cut all of the wires of , rewired , changed engine and teeny oil new battery and tires. Hey the sucker started right up! I think it originally had a similar sensor interlock failure. Those Onan engines are awesome. The tranny and engine oil was like molasses.
Power for the 318, 420, and 430 starting circuit starts from the key switch to a 20A fuse to one side of the front PTO switch (not the activation side) to the rear PTO switch (if applicable) to the Brake Switch (only on later models) to a different contact on the key switch to the S wire on the solenoid. Sec 240-15-3 of the TSM. Hope this helps someone. All in line safety switches must be closed before power will be sent to the S wire of solenoid.
My same tractor stalled out while mowing and will not do anything. The lights on dash will not even turn on when turning the key, it does nothing at all. I checked the battery it’s good. Any suggestions?
More than likely something ignition switch related or the fuse from the key switch to the relays and computers for the rest of the engine. If you have good power going into the switch from the battery and nothing coming out of the key switch on any of the wires, then something failed internally, there also needs to be good grounds everywhere otherwise it would be just like you shut the key off and nothing would power on.
Mine does the same thing but it's really intermittent and sometimes it'll turn on and turn right back off or I won't get dash lights at all and then I turn the PTO on turn it back off and then it'll work
The older mowers were made alot better than all these new ones we could buy now i have almost all Kohler engines no new ones The rest i have are Briggs and each one still runs I guess the second newest engine I have is the Briggs twin 19.5 hp engine then the troy bilt push mower and my lawn boy still needs a little deck work done but it still runs to
@@luvthesnow it’s actually a transmission pump the hydraulics system the forward and reverse lever is not adjusted properly so when the tractor is in neutral it will still try to move forward and the chains stopping the tractor from rolling make the pump under load and whine
@@Mike-su8si the cause as to why it sounded like that is because the motion control lever is in the neutral position but the linkage is actually pushing forward attempting to move or make the tractor creep forward but since it was chained and couldn’t move it was making that noise wich could result in damage to the transmission pump
That is NOT a lawn tractor! It’s a garden tractor! Big difference.
I was going to say the same thing!

My 318 had the same issue now fixed... Thanks for the video!!

I just seen one guy hauling a zero turn mower on one of those it wasn't even strapped down and kept rolling forward and back when he would stop and go

that helped alot damn how did I not think of that I got a 316 same problem lol.

Why does this have such a big tires? Most 318 don't look so big do they?

Was there one, a seat kill switch? Also, a brake kill switch.
Nice fix.
Cool I am looking at getting one theses are big garden tractors and they are tanks

Halfway through this video I thought to myself just jiggle the drive selector. I have to do that to my 318
The shifter
I'm glad the old Kohlers don't make that whining sound
Whine is probably from dirt packed in and around the flywheel fins. A lot of dirt. I have cleaned a few and the whine goes away
My 318 doesn't have the whine

at lest we know she can start it in gear now
I’ve got a starter that sounds like that it’s on a Kohler magnum on a cub cadet that transmission is very loud too
So that bad sound was just the transmission on that it wasn't the motor or hydraulic pump

I love nada!
Interesting, the seat kill switch disabled.
No lights will even come on on my 316
Battery issue
That starter is messssssed up
