The 2011 Hyundai Sonata has a problem where the engine seizes without warning. The average repair cost is about $5,000 and the average mileage at the time of seizing is around 90,000 miles. A class action lawsuit in 2015 found the 2.4-liter engine to be defective.

The 2020/2021 accord is truly the most impressive vehicle released in these years. I drove one in 2020 and was just floored at the performance, refinement, fit & finish. You simply cannot beat them for practicality and affordability. Someone down below was talking about Nissan Maxima...they are fun to drive but not as refined nor are they even near the same value (my pricings with similar trim was +$10,000) and they simply do not have the reliability to be a car I would recommend. I am not brand loyal, I simply think Honda has a far superior product in this segment, especially when value and longevity are apart of the equation.
I traded my Audi A3 for a Sonata N line lease and boy am I in love with this car. It really puts a smile on your face when you step on it. That wet dual clutch transmission is smooth as butter. When you want it to take off it truly is a rocket but when you want to cruise or you’re stuck in traffic it handles things beautifully. The shifts are perfect. The handling is superb. I cannot state this enough, do not second doubt it, get this car if you are thinking about it. It rips.
One night these two oldsters drag launched on me from a red light with a brand new Corolla Sport. I just shook my head and laughed at their immaturity. And then properly smoked them with my Civic (turbo). We old guys have to have SOME fun! LOL!
I had a 2012 accord v6 and it was a sleeper. Got rid of it for a truck but these new 2.0t are very under estimated. There probably faster then the previous v6s
Id love to see how the sonata does with the summer tires in California where it’s not -1 degrees outside ;). I think with the grip it could take the Honda from a dig. Can’t wait to see more.
Tried out an Accord back in Nov of 2019 and I loved it. I liked the feel and handling, and how it looked classy and understated. My wife loves the Camry TRD, she thought it was more fun, and the interior styling was far more open and inviting. The Sonata N looks fine, but we haven't had a chance to try one out for ourselves. I am really disappointed in the Acura, but with that AWD and the weight, it probably dominates those other competitors when it comes to snowy winter driving. It's like comparing aSubaru STI to a Civic Type R, two tools meant for vastly different jobs.
If you ever wondered what the difference between 700 hp / 350 hp “feels” like ... Watch this video (and note how relaxed and easy they feel ... taking their hands off the steering wheel, lol). The Accord 2.0T has been dyno'ed to put out 250+ to the wheels, it is definitely under-rated by Honda. The TLX is the same engine w premium gas it gets a 20hp rating bump.
When Hondata put the stock 2.0T Accord on the dyno, it recorded a baseline of 266 hp and 292 lb-ft to the wheels. That's well above Honda's claim of 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque at the crank. The Accord is so fast because Honda seriously underreported the hp and torque figures. www.motortrend.com/news/get-civic-type-r-power-on-your-2018-honda-accord-2-0t/
Hyundai and Kia are known for putting some really aggressive torque limiting in their factory tunes, so they get neutered in first couple gears. I think that's more of the issue than the gearing. I had a 2.0 turbo optima years back and sometimes it felt absolutely gutless and at other times it ripped and did rolling burnouts. it was the torque limiting algorithm sometimes kicking in and sometimes not. makes a crazy difference

that 700 lbs gets you a double-wishbone suspension, better handling chassis, AWD, and a torque-vectoring rear axle. Not very useful for straight line acceleration but definitely more fun to drive overall and better in the winter. The upcoming Type S would destroy the Accord and Sonata N-line.

I'm Korean and gonna say it as a fact, Hyundai is obviously lacking in the mechanical design (engine, transmission, etc. ) but they have been making moves on marketing and devoting a lot of their efforts to making their cars decent or to a point where it is alright on paper and ergonomic for everyday use. Generally, the Japanese brands have so much more experience in mechanical designs that it's obvious Hyundai is unlikely to win in a race like this.
@Idlia Dosai because I'm pretty sure in Japan, they tax you (or the manufacturer, I'm not sure) by the size/power output of the engine, so reporting less power = lower taxes
I would love a 2021 infiniti q50 vs 2008-2013 infiniti g35-37 both in their highest sport trims because i think you would be impressed with the old car that i have!!!
That was amazing. When the Sonata lost the 1st race I knew the it was being held back for traction. That Rolling Race was WILD. ANd if I paid all that money for TLX and the Accord Smokes the TLX then ???
I think the Sonata’s problem is that it has TOO much power for the winter tires. I’d be curious to see you guys run the test again with everyone on all seasons or summers in better weather. The launch control on that car mitigates wheel spin by limiting power until it can hook up but the worse the conditions, the longer it cuts power which could be why it fell so far behind. That’s why it fared much better on the rolling race
at the strip with mine it easily puts down the reported 13.7's during summer time on stock summer tires. With cool weather it gets mid 6's. With a jb4 mine is hitting 13.1's. either way all those numbers beat the accord in the 1/4 stock for stock
It's a shame the Ford Fusion Sport isn't exactly available anymore. Even fully kitted out when it was still available, it was hard to get it to crack $45k and you got a car with 315HP, AWD, and a bunch of cool features. I still prefer the aesthetic of the pre-facelift 2nd gen, but it's hard to argue with some of the features they introduced on the 2019 model year, which was the last year for the Sport model of the Fusion.
the FWD TLs with the 3.5 were just as fast as the AWDs with the 3.7 (with 25hp/19lb-ft less) in the quarter mile, so I'm sure it's quite the difference. However, you don't buy SH-AWD for the quarter mile alone; those Acuras handle crazy well
Opposite of me, I just bought a 2021 Hyundai Elantra and it's probably the biggest mistake of my life. Only had it for 2 weeks and I am already trying to get rid of it
@@raiderfly I initially liked the design of the car seeing it in all these videos, but in person I didn't look at it all that well since I went to buy it on an afternoon. Basically the car only looks good from the rear end. The passengers sides look extremely cheap because Hyundai cheaped out and put a piece of hard touch plastic where the extra small window would go, and keep in mind I have the limited version which is the highest trim. The interior also isn't great, they put piano black around the cup holders but put some type of rubber plastic material around the gear selector, this should be reversed because that's how it is in most cars, that use both materials. The piano black plastic can scratch easily if you accidently hit your water bottle against the plastic trying to put it into the cup holder. The adaptive cruise control sucks because at the lowest distance setting the car still leaves enough room for almost 2 and half cars to fit in the gap between you and the car in front, this makes people behind you annoyed, and as a result I get cut off a lot, while feeling like an asshole for holding the lane back. The Collison warning is also extremely annoying like sometimes it comes on when I am switching lanes, and there is a car next to me. Now my biggest gripe is the extreme wind and road noise. I had a Honda Accord before and that had a lot of wind noise, but this blows it out of the water. If you are going over 40mph you can really start to hear the wind noise. At 60mph it becomes extremely loud, and at 80mph it's basically unbearable. This leads me to constantly checking to make sure if all 4 of my windows and sunroof are closed. I usually have to turn my music up super high just to be able to hear it over the noise. I had a 2017 Honda Accord before this car that someone hit and totaled, and my Honda Accord was only around $1200 more expensive. But the Honda Accord had less road/ wind noise, better materials in the cabin, and a shorter distance between you and the car in front for the adaptive cruise control. Plus it was also faster, this car takes awhile to pickup when you need to overtake someone. Not to mention that car is also 12 inches longer giving you more room overall. I also had terrible time at the dealership, unrelated to the car itself, but it has completely turned me away from any future Hyundai products, because they wouldn't honor things written on their website. I think for the money, the new Civic is definitely the better buy since it's basically a mini Accord. I stupidly assumed that the new Civic wouldn't be available until early September, I should have just waited a few extra weeks.
The Accord Sport is absolutely awesome. For context I considered it alongside MUSCLE CARS and AWD turbo 6s for my next ride. This Throttlehouse video saved me from trading my Accord Sport 2.0 for this Nline and for that I am truly grateful. If you listen to all of these million videos on TH-cam you would think this car is a Maclaren. They all talk about 5 seconds to 60 but if you notice there are no actual videos showing 5 seconds to 60. That makes us suspicious of funny business between them and the manufacturer. Throttlehouse does nice unbiased real world tests with intelligent information conveyed to the public.
> listen to all of these million videos on TH-cam Fortunately there are these things called magazines with printed text that you can actually *read* 🤯 Motor Trend & Automobile tested the N-Line at 5.3 seconds to 60 and Car & Driver tested it at 5 seconds flat. The lowest Accord 2.0t number I've seen is 5.4 seconds. There's no funny business going on; 0.3s 60 time differences are normal if you *read* (there's that word again) independent instrumented tests. Most TH-camrs don't do independent instrumented tests because viewers watch for experience, sound, and subjective impressions, not numbers that you can *read*. To me it sounds like the N-Line cut torque due to the ambient temperature, which could result in dangerous wheelspin + torque steer on slippery roads from a dead start (recall: its TSC can't be fully defeated). Now why didn't the Accord have the same problem? 1) Less torque to mitigate 2) More development and field time, which means Honda have had more time to spread R&D and improvement costs over the life of the car 3) Hyundai probably cut corners in cold weather testing to keep costs down. BTW I'm a former Accord owner so technically I should be stanning Honda but I'll go with MT, C&D, & Automobile's instrumented tests over an uninstrumented TH-cam drag race.

I was told that is normal and the best way to break it in is to challenge it and train it to be aggressive. Fast forward to now and the car is driving excellent. Compared to the TLX, the Hyundai Sonata N-line is 500 lbs lighter, ~20 more HP, ~30 more lb-ft of torque, launch control but even then still lost to the Acura from a dig. On paper, the Sonata should've won this one easily. Props to Honda/Acura.

It rips.
Nice man, underrated and rare on the road
Good upgrade. The a3 is kinda boring

Tried out an Accord back in Nov of 2019 and I loved it. I liked the feel and handling, and how it looked classy and understated. You guys should put these cars on a dyno. I have a feeling the Honda is way way WAY underreported.
The Accord 2.0T has been dyno'ed to put out 250+ to the wheels, it is definitely under-rated by Honda. The TLX is the same engine w premium gas it gets a 20hp rating bump.
We already know it’s way underrated same with the Type R
There are quite a few videos on the tube that show the 2.0t puts out roughly 300 lb-ft of torque and the hp is upwards of 280
it's been done before, Honda/Acura under-rates their HP, Hyundai/Genesis slightly over-rates their HP
Not sure if anyone ever mentions this, but I love the background music you guys use in these.

*In the words of Roger Smith from American Dad: "Welp. That's what you get for tangling with a Honda."*

@@-SP. why?

Great video once again! BTW, I have yet to see a video comparing a manual accord to the automatic. How would that turn out? It would be awesome if you guys would drag race. It would also cater to the "Save the manual crowd" which I am a part of. Continue the great work. Cheers from Quebec!
Just imagine a Accord Si-R or type r. If the regular accord is so good already.
It is the NSX....
I have a 2020 Accord Sport 2.0 and saw the 2022 Sonata N line a few days ago at my local dealership and fell in love immediately. This video helped a lot!
That accord is ridiculous 😂
Accord plus a tune would be fun at stop lights. lol. Definitely could upset a lot of people lol.

I heard the accord is under-rated and is actually giving closer to the 300.
Nope..just better engineering from Honda...
@@tom11zz884 No just underrated . You wouldn’t even know how to explain yourself “better engineering” 😂
@@tom11zz884 Some car companies cite crank hp vs some cite whp.. both are technically true.. it just depends on the manufacturer and how they market their product. In this case however, the TLX and Accord have essentially the same powertrain, the difference is about 500lbs in weight.. depending on the trim.
Yeah. They dyno at around 270 to the wheels. That’s easily 300hp crank. Honda claims 252 lol.. they underrated it for sure.
the guy that drive the sonata is like goin out for road trip
I'd take the K5 GT over Sonata N Line, exterior and options are better on the Kia
Definitely a better looking car.
The K5 GT also has AWD too!

@@jabariphillips8855 to be fair, the sonata got destroyed from a dig and could barely pull on a roll. A tune on the accord and you're set.
@@snapcountersteer It lost from wheel spin not lack of horsepower. At the strip, the Hyundai would win.
@@carlosoliveira-rc2xt yeah n line is a better track car than the normal family sedan accord big deal. its the red light it should be worried about.
@@reenachauriya4931 I said strip not track. The strip is very sticky where the launch control would not be a problem. Alternatively do the race with summer tires instead of winter ones with suboptimal traction conditions. The roll race shows you already which car has the most power. This was a useless video and sit in he front of the class so you can pay attention.
I just got an accord 2.0 touring, and I honestly feel it is severely overlooked and under rated. It is incredibly quick and a solid performer. Honda engineering, there’s just nothing like it.
How’s your 2.0 going? I just ordered mine and won’t get here until March. Can’t wait. It’s the touring 2.0 sonic gray
Still really like the new TLX overall! My current S60 T5 is hardly fast but it gets the job done.
That Sonata desperately needs a limited slip diff. The car would be transformed even further with some additional mechanical grip.
Right they didnt even set the launch control on highest settings
I'm not too sure about these 3 cars performance, but for sure had a fun time watching these guys joking around.
That accord is so quick it pushed his hairline back.....made his gameface a force to be reckoned with
That Sonata has a face only a whale shark mom could love 🥲
Lol Cesar is reflecting on his life rn. He is the Sonata and his mom is that Whale Shark

Throttlehouse does nice unbiased real world tests with intelligent information conveyed to the public.
> listen to all of these million videos on TH-cam
Fortunately there are these things called magazines with printed text that you can actually *read* 🤯 Motor Trend & Automobile tested the N-Line at 5.3 seconds to 60 and Car & Driver tested it at 5 seconds flat.
@@JudahRichardson1 I am embarrassed, since my last comment where I was speaking negative about the Nline, I actually went out and traded my 2.0 sport for a Sonata Nline. Absolutely thrilled with the car. At the time I wrote that, I did not know much about the car. Everything about the Nline feels higher quality then the Accord and while I would have preferred a Stinger or g70, the prices on those were a little out of my range, this car most definitely satisfies my driving appetite!
Picture of the old Accord Sport 2.0 and the new Sonata Nline. Again, love the Stinger and G70 and 80 but maybe the next car, for the foreseeable future this will do.
@@JudahRichardson1 I think another thing to consider here, at least from what I have noticed and a Hyundai mechanic confirmed, this car takes some time to break-in, with this 2.5T DCT. For about the first 1,200 miles or so the car felt sluggish. The pedal was stiff and tough to push. I was told that is normal and the best way to break it in is to challenge it and train it to be aggressive. Fast forward to now and the car is driving excellent. In these races, if they are racing cars not broken in, then it is not gonna perform at it's best. Whether or not people agree with that or not is another thing, but it is what I have experienced and was told by Hyundai.
@@XWXW-lk4jf I feel ya on that. My car (2012 Nissan Maxima Special Edition) catches a lot of hate on the internet but it's approximately the same. The CVT has to learn from you and you have to learn how to use it well. Once you do, though, you can expect to smoke most other drivers you encounter.

I have the accord 2.0T and coming from driving different types of Lexus for over 9 years . I have to say I am not disappointed in power.
Happy with my 2.0t Accord as far as speed and transmission. It’s definitely quicker than my previous mk7 GTI. Of note is the 10AT in the Accord is tuned so much better than the DSG in the VW. The VW was either lugging the engine so it felt slow in “normal”, or it was way too hyperactive in “sport”. Honda has this figured out.

Great review on the Sonata. Would be great if your did a follow up on this.
Just out of curiosity, did you disable traction and stability control and also did you adjust the rpm @ which you want to take off? On the Sonata? It has that feature to adjust rpm to which you want to launch,
