Brian Blade is the heart, Jim Wilson is the guts, Daniel Lanois is the spirit. This can't go wrong.
You nailed it....and this song has been such a positive in many lives
I met him at a show years ago. Small venue, intimate setting, small audience. He was supposed to play a couple of tunes on his acoustic and answer a few questions, in and out type of radio obligation. Instead he asks if the full band can play and work some things out. Needless to say it was like sitting at the feet of greatness. It was a masterful performance. Then I had a beer with him after the show and he was a gentleman. Sincere, humble and asked me questions about my life etc. The man is a treasure and we are lucky to have him. He also rented an RV to tour in that he drove himself. He is just that guy. Amazing human being and a musical genius surrounding himself with musical geniuses.
Met him too in Northampton, Mass near The Ironhorse. In line for show and he came out of music store. I was only (well first) to recognize him, went up and started talking. We talked for 5 minutes before someone else came up, and then he took off. He asked if he could play a song for me, and dedicated Still Water. Also mentioned me during some improve/space guitar as I had mentioned enjoying those soundscapes. A highlight of my concert going life!
100%. Saw him 2 nights in a row in '03 for his SHINE tour. Ashville NC(Orange Peel) and Atlanta (Echo Lounge). He toured with Mother Superior(Henry Rollins Band) as his backup band. 100? people in Ashville. I sat front row- 10 feet away. He gave me the setlist and all 4 of them signed it.
Most real and down to earth person I've ever met, and funny as hell... spoke again in ATL. SAME. 2 of the best nights of music and camaraderie I've ever experienced!
@peterhammond2704: Lucky you!!! His music touches the soul. Love listening to all his music, it makes sense. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing!
Yes. Thank you. He and his band are stunning.
Fuck, I'm not religious, but Christ, this song almost makes me believe! What a masterpiece!
I first heard of Lanois as the secondary producer for U2 in the mid 80s. In this 9 minute clip alone, he eclipses everything U2 ever achieved.
Daniel Lanois is a National Treasure.
This song and performance makes me feel so good. Brian Blade on drums is the secret ingredient.
He's amazing, got to know him from "Black Dub".
Daniel Lanois knows where to look for great musicians :)
Brian Blade and Breeze
From the Dino Kruse days in New Orleans
His guitar playing is like controlled chaos. Magnificent.
I keep coming back to this - just amazing musicians playing and having a good time.
Did you ever hear a song that you’ve never heard before and you just devour it . This is all I’ve listened to for the past few days . All versions !!! But I think I like this one best
Yes, that's me. Today 😊
It’s funny to see any negative comments about this performance. It’s a pity that even sharing the finest of the art-form on TH-cam will always to some degree just become a casting of pearls before swine. This music is of the highest... If you don’t get it, grab a fish sandwich on the way out and don’t bother coming back.
It's been a while since your comment Jimmy but it's still do a compliment - 🎸
When you have been programmed by the machine there aren’t the neuro-pathways available to hear this for what it is.....then this threatens the listener enlisting a self preservation response of negative comment. Pray for the ones who take the time to leave a negative message that one day they be blessed with the opportunity to hear true love....
Just discovered Lanois, at 45. He is amazing. This is magical. The guitar, the voice # the lyrics, the amazing musicianship of the band. Would you mind recommending your favorite songs /performances?
That drumming is relentless…
This song has followed me a long time through happiness and sorrow. I think it will follow me to the grave. Thank you Daniel. 🙏
I've never seen Lanois perform this song (or any other) exactly the same twice. If you've never caught him live ... do it before we meet the Maker.
or maybe right at the same moment...
Love Daniel
I saw him twice. Once on the Emmylou Harris Wrecking Ball reunion tour in Los Angeles. Taped it with Charlie Miller from first row, center balcony.
Second time w/ Black Dub here in downtown San Diego.
This is what makes live music so transcendent. i have listened to Acadie many times. This takes me beyond my prior understanding of this song. All praise to Daniel Lanois, Brian Blade, Jim Wilson, this date, this recording. Thank you.
Jerry Garcia & his bass player were big Lanois (& obviously Emmylou Harris) fans.
The Jerry Garcia Band covered this song VERY WELL.
@@numbernine2207Indeed, the album Wrecking Ball is a masterpiece.
Genius is often over used. Not here. Transcendent. Takes one into another realm
can't get enough of this MASTERY
You may be a stranger in the eyes of the Maker, (you never come to Him), but you're not a stranger in the hands of the Maker (He made you!). If you draw near to Him, He'll draw near to you (who knows what he can do?) (James 4:8)
Bless you brother Paul.
Attract that straddles, genius and spirituality❤
bringing this band into the light again soo very good yo !!
Heavenly song from The Maker
Best version ever.
Just fabulous ❤
the best drummer around on one of the greatest songs of the modern era
Seen Brian blade a couple times. I'm not often truly entertained by a drummer. But this guy is exceptional.
It's only 31 years old =)
The dimensions Blade creates in this version with levels, accents, and feel is truly heart felt genius.
adequate. check out this Lanois video - th-cam.com/video/S7OoV96Ih3k/w-d-xo.html
lolololololololol!!!
Fantastic! Love the drumming of Brian Blade and the guitar playing of Daniel Lanois. A perfect combination.
I am scramble to find words that could properly express my appreciation for this profoundly inspired talent. The entire band seems on fire with transcendent abilities. I didn't really understand that "real music" is still alive and well until this.
What talent! What a drummer!
Wow, the mix on this is brilliant!
god i love this guitar work
I don't care about the phase issues on Daniel's guitar...he is my hero and perhaps the coolest guy on earth. This song is genius.
is it phase ? it look likes theres a bunch of microphones on its guitar and low string are at Left panning and high strings at Right ?? technically its possible ...
I was wondering what that was at first but towards the end, it just sounded cooler and even better. So damn good
If anything is "out of phase" it's intentional
Listening again, I hear no phase issues whatsoever! Sounds great!
Discovered him while at Fuji rock in 2015; he performed this song and was blown away. Definitely the best performance of the festival !
Daniel Lanois is the maker
Beautiful song!!!
Masterful......One of the best versions of this song, ever.
Incredible.
Brian Blade ! The perfect drummer
I've played since i was 16 I'm 67 now and sir you got my attention i really like that sound its perfect
Absolutely his best performance !!
Agree, and I've listened to a lot of Makers. The slightly off-sync doesn't bother me at all, it is an incredible recording.
Beautiful music from a beautiful human being. Thank you so much for the video.
Beautiful
I could not see for the fog in my eyes. . . . This is an enormous version of an enormous song.
5:23 - my eyes burst into tears ... holy shit, I'm a grownup ... :)
Whenever I get bummed. ....I watch this video. Amazing.
what a great vocal sound for a live concert⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Are you kidding me?!?! This trio reminds me of Cream. The fact that these cats can create this music, and that we can dig it...i think that's what separates us from the animals.
My dog likes it.
@BibiAudiofil totally agree...amazing!
He was with me (in my headphones) traveling across Canada by rail. Haunting musical landscapes. Melancholy mixed with hope. A good Canadian son our Daniel.
so you got both music and video by the maker. sweet.
Weltklasse Band. Danke
And... Brian Blade - drumming so seemingly simple, yet such flowing organic improvisation throughout. Masterful.
Brian and Brady Blade are incredible players but lord almighty his drums sound incredible here.
God bless Brian Blade!!!
Just incredible. Impeccable musicianship and brilliant delivery. Daniel’s atmospheric guitar notes and Brian’s incredible timing and performance on drums. I hope to hell they come to Virginia Beach/Norfolk Virginia sometime. I’ll be there.
What a great trio & iteration of this masterpiece... Jimmy Hendrix, Robert Fripp & Dan Lanois... make the guitar into a monumental instrument... its like everyone else is playing an untuned piano & these guys are playing the worlds biggest church organ... whole nother level for sure
Three consummate musicians who take you on a journey to paradise. It's angular and beautiful with a lot going on but still space for the listener to join it all up. A perfect example of a DL ethereal soundscape delivered with his good humour. No wonder they enjoyed it so much!
Well said. Stunning work of art.
Insane magic to my ears
This is just amazing! Guitar bass and drums all great. Playing with such texture and feeling. Live music at its best!!!
Knocks my socks off.
This is so damned honest and good. No one should ever play this song but him.
serious with Brian , Jim & Dan!!!
beautiful blend amongst friends.
love to each of you...
never old, only pure gold.
Stuns!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm simply entranced by Brians beautiful playing. Great song.
so very good ..
The drum sound and that drummers sound!!!!!
That vintage tube mic accurately captures Brian's kit, and is playing of it!
Masterpiece. They play and feel music with all bodies. Masters.
That's how you rip a song with style! Amazing version of an amazing song.
J’ai découvert Daniel Lanois a la sortie de son album Acadie par hasard… j’ai pris une claque musicale et j’ai adoré… et depuis je l’écoute régulièrement c’est intemporel et tellement parfait ✨👌
Those vocals are LIVE...? Damn those guys are incredible together
What a treasure, thanks for sharing this!
Wow,if you search youtube you will find many versions of this song, almost like Mr. lanois has been trying to play the perfect version.well you nailed it sir. These cats are the masters of time and space.beautiful beyond words.
James Gondoli true. I found this song through a Dave Matthews band concert.
Such a COOL version!! First heard Willy Nelson do this and loved it. Now I LOVE it even more!! Daniel Lanois is SUCH a TALENT!!
It's amazing how many have covered this song. So much love!
Love having the same song on my tv and computer together, when they're offbeat
loud enough to (almost) piss off my neighbors in the adjacent apartment. Why do you ask?
Huh? Did you say something? who cares
Spiritual performance! Great stuff!
love his music, Saludos from El Salvador
*Thank You Ctirad for sharing this great Lanois gem. I only wish it were the entire show!*
two people obviously don't like music, Danny tears it up. love love love
Solid %100 . Such a good vibe and hook all at the same time!
My God.... That man has pure magic in his fingers (and the rest aren't bad either... lol) Beautiful.
I've gotten to see Daniel twice with Brian Blade on drums at Town Hall NYC and The Bottom Line NYC he was kind enough to have me as a guest..
Awesome song, loved it from the first time i heard it on the soundtrack of Billy Bob Thornton's brilliant Movie "Sling Blade"...just beautiful!
That was an indy movie & they didn't have a budget so they just used the whole Acadie Album as a soundtrack... good choice... GOD LOVES CHARITY... mighty things are done by the earthly poor yet rich in spirit
This is peak music
what a guitar player, dear god
Sling Blade is one of the purest movies ever made about the human condition. This song was a perfect expression of those complex ideas.
Nice. It's like a funky soulful Crazy Horse
The song that started it all for me, 28 yrs ago or so. Brilliant stuff!!
Really so good!!!
pffff! yes please!
Fantastic!
bloody incredible so good
Amazing!!!!!!!
Master of Ethereal sounds!!!
世界が平和でありますように。
This song honors God.... beautiful.
Stunning, thanks !
Truly amazing version. Thank you.
AMAZING! What a blend!!!
Such a fantastic live shot of it.
man what a group! awesome hollowbody bass
…could not feel,…for the fear in my life
I always loved Danile Lanois. This band is fantastic, Brian Blade is an amazing drummer, Jim Wilson is another great musician, seen him playing with Mother Superior in LA and with Henry Rollins, great work with the vocals, you have to see Jim lay the guitar, that’s a treat. 🙏
Yes ,,, Yeeeessss, YEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS,
Impeccable timing boys!
Nuff said.
E
This ROCKS!!!
Гениальнейшее от талантов
