- Daniel Lanois is a legendary songwriter, producer, and engineer whose work spans from music giants like U2, Peter Gabriel, Willie Nelson, and Neil Young, to composition for video games like Read Dead Redemption II to scores for films like Sling Blade and others.
Since his early days as an engineer, he’s relied on the unique characteristics of the Sony C-37a to record in a variety of uncommon environments from churches to medieval castles. He shares how the Mojave MA-37 has provided the same iconic sound as the original Sony C-37a in a much more consistent, reliable package.
I could listen to Daniel talk all day. God bless him.
'The folks I was working with' AKA U2 haha. Daniel is so humble
Danny being Danny. There's no one else like him. The lessons learned at Grant, expanded, deepened and on the road to forever, are still shining. Great to see him!
If its good for Daniel Lanois, its good for the rest of us. ❤❤❤
It's a $4000 mic... it better be good for every damn set of ears on the planet
Price means nothing until you know how to use the tools…..
Absolutely Love Daniel Lanois. His way of thinking about music production has been a bigger influence on my own than any other. And now I’ve never wanted a mic more!!! 🤓🥳
I love to see M Daniel Lanois let his child-like heart come out with the mic in hand. Keep on rockin' !
One of my favourite musicians...
Great video! Daniel is a joy to talk to!!
I’ve been a fan of his since I first heard Time out of Mind. I had fallen in love with a Royer 122 around the same time as when I first heard that record years ago. I heard David Royer was making a remake or a tribute to a C-37a and I bought it. If you’re interested in this mic and not sure if you want to get one, get it. I’m honestly not just saying that. It’s opened up such a wonderful space of vocal recording that I’ve never been able to find before. Great microphone.
Perfection finds imperfection and makes it art
I love my matched pair of MA-300s. A MA-37 might have to be next. There's something special about tube mics.
Thank you. . . A friend of mine had a broken C 37a when I was in my twenties (back in the eighties) and I repaired it. The C 37a is a quirky microphone, but when it is the right microphone for the job, it is hard to beat.
Now that's some high praise indeed!
I love my MA300 and the 37's been on my short list for the past year.
Love to hear that!!
Thank you!!!
Thanks for the great video with Daniel! I still use and enjoy a microphone David hand built for me. A large diaphragm tube mic using a military spec subminiature tube. He built the power supply into a military ammo box sprayed black, and the power supply and mic have silver printed stickers that simply say “Mojave Audio”. I’ve been a fan of his design work for a long time. Used to really enjoy talking to him at NAMM.
Send us a picture!
Hey Dusty, absolutely I’ll send you some pictures!
Thank you Monsieur Lanois
Wonderful....inspiring....Thanks for this !!!!
Bravo, Mojave!! Great vid / Great mic / with one of the Greats !!
When he is talking about going to Europe to record in a castle, that would have been for U2 on. The Unforgettable Fire.
Damn, I wish I would find one of those at the bottom of a Capn' Crunch box 😭
Read Dead Redemption II, so iconic. Tragic story of Fenton fighting off gunslingers not through violence, but books and bestowed his knowledge unto those who sought to harm him. Playing as Lancelot after Fenton dies reading his journal on a cliff facing the sunrise was such a beautiful moment. Still sad there was no Typing of the Undead DLC for the prequel though. “When the time comes, you better run to the library, and don’t look back” 😢
Awesome microphones.
🐐
Always enjoyable cat. Makes me want to buy one.
Genius.
This is one of the microphones I really want to get. But, I have to wait until the budget is right.
You may want to check out the 201 fet. I had the C37a in mind when I designed it.
I had a c37 way back in 1982…..
Mojave are the only mics I use!
Danny’s work on Dylan’s album “ Oh Mercy” remains as one of the best recordings he did in the last 50+ years. His work recording U 2 is the stuff of legends.
Nice!! What music is playing in the background?
That's just Dan playing while we set up the video shoot.
@@dusty_wakeman nice. Thanks
Así quiero ser si llego a viejo!
Yo tambien 😎
Daniel is a genius but one of his secrets is those Radar converters.
My dad is from Hamilton! 🙌
Mr Lanois seems to lack enough money to heat his studio, given his woolly hat and outside coat. Don't his valve devices provide heating as well?
*Red Dead Redemption
So this is all about mic influencing..ffs
You really need to turn off that horrible piano music
No, just learn how to listen.
No, turn it off
@@tekis0 Why does audio of a man speaking need to be made less intelligible with background music?
Are you kidding or no?
Is this all you have to say? Jesus
Daniel Lanois is GOD !!!!
Well, no he isn't, but I think he produced some of His most interesting records
One of the Prophets of Sound… he works for GOD…..
🙏😇🎛🎚🎤🎸🎹😺
Well, he worked with a guy who _thinks_ he's a deity...
(I hope no one takes my comment too seriously - I was trying to riff off an old joke: "Wait, is [person's name] God?" "No, but I think they went to college together")
now that's some high price indeed!
"Read" Dead Redemption???
