Settling into this awesome 4x4 again! (What we love) - EP 106

- Aren't you tired of travelling full time? Living in your car since two years? Don't you miss comfort?
As we move back into our Land Rover Defender the Albatross after 10 weeks of shipment from South America to Australia, we are thrilled. Thrilled to move back in. Despite that, the number one question we get is: aren't you tired of this way of life? So before going back in we wonder: should we be tired? Maybe it won't be as we remember it? We travel on the Western Coastline of Australia, we live its beaches, its deserts, its dunes and bush like it is our garden and move around the coast enjoying the best of the endless tracks of the region. This territory covers a third of the country area for only 11% of the population, most of which, is in Perth the capital anyways. The place is empty, a paradise for camp spots hunters like us.
Join us as we move back full-time into our defender.
Next week, our love for this journey is put to the test (yes already...).
Until then, take care!
Nick & Mathilde

Thank you very much!
Hey Nick and Mathilde I am one of the CM2-A from Montreal just to say that I love your videos: the landscape views that you take are just beautiful.
Hello!!!! Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. It makes us so happy to read that! You guys have an awesome teacher! Hopefully you get to travel wherever you want to in the future 💪
Brilliant episode you two and it was so great to meet you both!! You did a wonderful job of capturing my beautiful little corner of the world. Thank you again for showing me through Albo too. 🙂
Our pleasure! Thanks Daniel! Looking forward seeing the video ❤️❤️❤️

Been following your adventures for a while now and wow! Your video production and editing is getting so good!! Can’t wait to see what else Australia has to bring! 🚐🦘🏜️
Thanks so much!! We try to improve but know we can still do better. but it is so encouraging reading you! we shall work even more !!
Definitely a feeling of the team back together now that Albo is on the road again. The Oz coast is amazing - all that white sand, and sometimes it looks like snow in the drone shots.
It s true it is so so bright
I am so happy to see you back on the road with Albo! This was another great episode!!!
Glad you enjoyed it Roger
This is my locality, I know I’m biased but it is just a beautiful place to live and 4WD. ❤️😎
It is exceptional! Lucky you to have such an amazing back garden ❤️
Beautiful! Places! ❤❤
It really is!
The gask masked boy grafiti looks like a Banksy!
❤️☀️🌀☀️❤️
true!
Great to see you reunited with Albo and back on and off the road again. Let the fun continue !! X
That's the plan!
'Albo' is also a nickname for our Australian PM 🙂
yes, we hope for special treatment for that hahahaha
So nice to see that you are meeting live the other “channels”. So fun. I hope you meet Ronny Dahl or Tyler Thomson one day. 😊
Keep up the good stuff! 🤙
I hope so too! we contacted them but not sure we ll get answers. let s see :)
Magnifique ces vu es ET surtout ces rencontres exceptionnelles ❤🙌
Merci Maman ❤️❤️❤️ meilleure supportrice
Gday Guys. The tracks along that section of coast were the only way in and out to the ocean for many years. The Indian Ocean hwy only opened in 2010 and before that you had to come from inland or take the old tracks in and out. There were many small fishing and cray fishing (lobster) villages set up along that area.
oh wow fascinating we had no idea! really interesting. I guess those villages were much smaller back then
Enjoy our backyard. Hopefully c u on the trail😎
Whoohooo! That d be fun
Wooow la nouvelle intro, la carte le logo 3D, la qualité du son, le graphisme! 👆🏻 Épisode de feu 💯

Yes it makes a world of difference in terms of comfort and freedom. We love it. Thank you steve !!!
Hi Steve Stott. I've seen your name many times now. I have wanted to ask, did you know Brad or Craig Foster? They grew up in Sutherlin, Oregon in the 80's. We became friends in Mammoth Lakes, Ca.
@@NextMeridianExpedition ..😁
@@ursinidaho no l only moved to Sutherlin in 2010 . My mom was living here at that time . 😁moved here from Astoria Oregon
Welcome back and this episode is epic content nice cheers

Howdy Albies! Down under and saddled up! Looking forward to your trip! Watch out for salties! 🐊⚔️🦘
thanks Stuart! we have mixed feelings for the salties we want to see them and at the same time not from too close
wow...what a place. Beautiful whit sand beaces and not a soul around...my kind of beach! Delightful!
It really is! but not so many places in the world anymore where you find that, no garbage at all, no one, no bar/restaurants/hotels, it is superb
I couldn't wait for this episode. You two are so blessed. Have fun!!!!!
Thank you so much!! here we go again
What incredible footage. Thank you for taking us along.❤

Finally back on the road ay. keep following you 🙂 one I heard that friends from Oz, when you go through waters be careful with sharks and crocodiles. Do a good check before jump in. Good luck forward.
yes!!! it is actually fascinating. can you imagine... a river crossing next to the crocs!! we kind of excited about that
Wow, wow loving these videos mate. Keep them coming.👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Back in the saddle again! Great to see you all again.
yihaaa hahaha
Albo is happy too! Its great to see you back on the road! Those tracks do look fun!
They are! And especially to find places to camp
It's good to have you guys back. I've rether missed you
Hey!!! Welcome back around ! We ve got three videos of Australia out! But that was the first with albo
That brings me back when we did our roadtrip with our similar (but less fancy) Defender in 2011. I'll follow your adventures with intense jealousy! (we met briefly the day you left Perth, I'm actually on your video background at the beginning 😂).
😇 Been watching just been ill. (I'm old) I'm so thrilled to see the family reunited. Have a great time "down under".
We hope you feel better soon 🫶🫶
Great start, you guys. Let's keep going for more Australian adventures. Je vous aime❤.
We will! Merci Lupita ! Nous aussi
Another lovely and interesting country to explore! The farm was a nice stop!
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes the farm is quite interesting
I was on 15 minutes after you uploaded, but I had not received a notification yet. I think I fixed that now. In any case, that white sand and the beaches are amazing. Can you imagine if you were shipwrecked there in the 17th century? You would be seriously in big trouble. Maybe they could have trekked down the coast to Perth. I do not know. Anyway, Australia looks amazing so far and Albo looks great too. Maybe aviator/motorcycle goggles would keep the flies out of your eyes. Just a thought.
Hi Russ! Yes sorry for the delay. We had some trouble coming up yesterday evening and today which delayed the upload hence the late upload. We posted on the community tab but I know not everyone sees the post.
Omg … yes the hike to Perth would take days and there would be nothing in between.
Sunglasses help quite well already at least for the eyes part. Just need to pay attention when breathing with the nose not to breath in one hahaha
@@NextMeridianExpedition If you were shipwrecked at the wrong time of year, and didn't have much water, you would probably die before you got to Perth. I have seen pictures of kids in African countries with flies all over their eyes. Pretty disgusting. Give me a country with a moderate climate and few bugs, snakes, or animals that may trash my property or eat me. 🤗
Don't skip Karijini NP.... The most beautifull park of OZ and I have been all around! Absolutely amazing scenery like
you will not find anywhere else!
On the list! Thank you! It seems to be an amazing one we ve heard several person mentioning it
Great to see you both in the Landrover again. Australia has alot of wounderful beaches to explore. Both should get some budgy smugglers for beach adventures. Looking forward to seeing more of your Australian travels.
Pretty sure you will come across a number of Defenders on your trip around Australia. We are however well outnumbered by Landcruises.
haha we ve seen! but still as you say every so often a defender or two! we ended up randomly at a farm the other day that had 8 hahahaha that was fun.
Oh NO. I'm out of popcorn! I guess I'll have to run out and get me some Cheezels.....
Loving the ride-along! Thanks!
Hahahahahahah 😅😅😅 drama
Great start to your Australian adventure. When I visited the Pinnacles in 1984, in my RRC, drove up the main highway to Cervantes and back to Lancelin along the coast on sand tracks. All with highway tyre pressures. Didn’t even carry a compressor back then.
that must have been aesone and so different without the Indian Ocean highway
Have all your fun now because the next 30 or so will fly by fast. It seemed to take forever to grow up, go to college, and get my first job. I was 25 and every year was memorable. After that, the years seemeed to pass qicker and quicker, most being about the same. I am 75 and my wife 72. We met and fell in love 50 years ago. It went by so fast! If I live to be 90, that is only 15 years away. Ouch. Keep having fun and memorable experiences every day.
I am sure those were beautiful years. That is good to realize the value of each year
@@NextMeridianExpedition I had good ones and not so good ones. I was an art and photography teacher. Some kids made my life hell and I couldn't do anything about it. The last ten years I was working for my pension, which I got. It was no way to live though. I would have rather been out taking pictures, however I found that unless you are fmous, they don't sell. You are doing life the right way. Just set aside money for when you are old. All I had to do was work for 20 years at my last job and the money and health insurance would be there. I estimate, I have collected $600K so far, besides my government Social Security. That's why I put up with certain students. You should probably set aside at least $20K a year. Put it into a safe retirement fund. At your age, I was struggling and couldn't set aside a penny. It is expensive to live in the USA. Our website is RussMartinandMarciaMartin.com. By the way, in 2008 I won the entire nature division of the Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3). for my Hosta pictures. Hosta Flowers and Oak Leaves was hung there in the vernissage.
ola meus amigos a Altroz esta linda , viva a vida , lugares lindos a natureza é a coisa mais linda ,queria ser este Brasileiro a colocar esta bandeira ai neste espaço ☺🤣
Oooh that would be awesome !!! Come over 😅😅😅
oh man ......beautiful secenery,love it!!
It really is! Thank you
The new curtains look really nice grate timing for the side windows for ventilation. Do the new seats feel as good as they look? It is nice to see the team back together though. Happy traveling!
Yes they do! We absolutely love it. Those are expensive ones, we could not have offered but they really make a huge difference
Lime light,liking,hey day.shamim 🧜♀️🌿👫🎎🫂🤱👨👩👧👦
Speechless 👏👏👏💪💪
Thank you June !
You guys are the real deal! 🤙🏽
Yiiihaaaa
Welcome “home” to Albo! Fun video, beautiful beaches!
How long are you planning to stay in Australia?
Not sure yet honestly. Our visa is one year so we re limited by that. But we re looking at 8 months maybe ?
Welcome to Australia. We were supposed to travel there but then Covid hit. It will have to wait as in a few days we are headed to Budapest and then river cruising to Amsterdam. Won't be quite as adventurous as your trip but lots of exciting places to visit while traveling northward. Even while in Europe, I will look forward to your postings each week.
Thank you!
That s a bummer hope you make it here soon!!!
Hi I am from College Intarnational Marie de France I am in CM2-A.
Hi Dania! Nice to meet you! Thank you for coming on the channel and say hi!
Tack!
Thank you so much Thomas! We will put it to good use !!
Merci Alex!!!
@@philsec Hooo un commentaire français ! 😁
@@alexandral6273 oui c etait vraiment super comme si on etait jamais parti
don't skip Cape York..most epic part of Australia...otherwise have fun...
oh yeah we hope to go let's see!!
Wow, those australian beaches...miles and miles of empty white sand and turquoise water with not another soul in sight...paradise. But no swimming yet? Too much dangerous sealife in the water? Dangerous currents?
Haaaa you know mathilde she d swim anywhere hahahaha so here no problem to get in. We actually swam next to Perth but did not film it. But more water coming up as we go north
@@NextMeridianExpedition Thanks for the reply. It is good to know (for my own travel plans). It looks like a very beautiful place to visit...enjoy!
I love Mathilde speaking LOUDLY in French..and I don't know if kick understands French, or just the TONE?? Better get some bug hats..Your gonna need um..LOVE the drone footage.
Hahahaha touché mother tongue comes back in moments of fear like Nick taking the spontaneous turn to the giant mud puddle when there is a proper road.
@@NextMeridianExpedition ALL kids love to splash in the puddle..Got to watch this one...
@ 12:07 It's a Willie-wagtail looking for bugs around the kangeroo.
Oooj thanks for the explanation !
i learned a secret about zipper on everything to continue to make them work at there best, VASOLINE place a pinch between your first finger and thumb and spread it on both sides of the zipper , it makes the zipper from tugging and sticking or hard to open, once you do that close the zipper and top the zipper threads with an extra coating if needed. dont spray with silicone or wd-40 coating because this destorys the threads that holds the zipper to the canvas. love your trips p.s. i was wondering power on the solar panels each? it looks like you could use on more on the top in front of those 2? i see there flat panels watts ? take in of how many amps per hour?on my trailer i have 4 -1000 watt units but it a 35' 5th wheel trailer, .appox. 22.35 amp per panels in a 2- 6 pack of 6 volt batteries . reason is the 6 volt paired up to make 12 volts in total 6 -12 volt batteries each battery amps are 200 amp per batteries, can drain down to 1 volt and recover better then 12 volt, see the 12 volt batteries if they drain pass 10.8 volt the batteries are toast, or no good?
Thank you for the tip! We have two panels of 120w each on the roof plus the plug and play in addition. We don’t really need more. They are super flat super good quality. They fees into a lithium of 90 amp we might want to add another lithium one day cause it is alright but when we have starling and all computers charging the battery is a bit small.
@@NextMeridianExpedition I don't like lithium batteries 1 the cost and 2 there only ok to me. My batteries the 6 volts pair to make 12volt are acid batteries water and acid the old fashion style. 120 volt flat panels receive approx 7.6 amps per panel or 15.2 amps in direct sunlight.paired. o mine we installed a piece of flat stainless steel under the panels to draw in hot under the panels . Without the s/s panels under the solar panels the panels cool to quick with them after the sun goes down the solar panels stay hot to continue making power till cooled off. Much like the solar panels on top of asphalt shingles on to of your roof of the house. You may want to purchase a barrel generator, I have one that run when you sleeping it s blowing the wind at night keeping the battery fully charged up. I have a 800 watt unit cost 300.00 it makes 17 amps per hour extra in 10 mph wind . Max ed out 25 amps you can get it smaller to starting at 100 watts. Or 5.65 amp per hour.
I had to stop the video to look up Pinnacles desert. I am curious how it formed. The sand tracks are so pretty to drive. So the farm planting season is going into winter? Is it because summer is too hot? Can I suggest that you put comments in a contrasting color to the background and leave them a bit longer? Im having trouble reading them and I really want to. Great video. The beaches are so beautiful!❤
Ok good to know we will think about that.
The winter is when they get the rains. The rest of the year is super dry.
My suggestion to you both is skip the flip flops. Use closed shoes instead.
Australia is looking good. It's really good to see Albo made it successfully to Australia without damage.
Back on the road again!
yes it is so great to have it here!
The flys are bad in WA. It will get better as you go round. WA is one of the most sparsely populated places on the planet!!
it is crazy how empty yet developed it is!!!
Ca fait pro! J’adore la fin: faut pas que tu passe la!
punaise... trois fois par jour on évite les catastrophes. bisous a vous 4
😍😍🤩🤩🤩
🥰🥰🥰
The beach tracks are not built, guys. Here in Australia, if you drive where someone drove before you, you have made a track 😂
we were not really thinking about the beach tracks. but tracks in the bush just alongside the coastline. it s heavy bushes there one would need to cute the bush to create passage in many section. but we cant figure what practical use those were serving.
Hi! Glad Albo is back and you two enjoying your mobile home---? did you find it difficult to adjust to driving on the left side of the road? If not what did you do to adjust so quickly? Thanks
Not at all, it comes really fast. we just need to think deliberately at cross roads roundabouts and parking lots (I repeat myself "stay left stay left stay left..." ). the main roads it comes real naturally but some times at low speeds in parking lots or crossroad you might forget sometimes.
